What Aging Depletes - Science Replaces

Today the ingredient focus is on hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a compound found naturally in our bodies. Its basic function is to lubricate, provide moisture, and cushion our connective tissue. What areas need the help that hyaluronic acid offers? Our eyes use it to stay lubricated. Our joints use a lot of hyaluronic acid, not only for lubrication, but also as a cushion for shock absorption from everyday activity. And finally, HA is key to the body’s ability to moisturize, especially as it relates to skin. It gives skin that plump, dewy quality that screams youth. As we age, our body produces less and less HA, especially after age 40.

The good news is that there are several ways we can help our bodies create and supplement their stores of hyaluronic acid.

We can start by providing the building blocks used to create hyaluronic acid. Foods that help the body created HA include: soy containing foods, red wine, and red grape juice. Vitamin C plays a crucial role in stimulating HA production – so citrus fruits – oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits; green, red, yellow and orange peppers; as well as parsley and cilantro, are all important players in a diet targeting hyaluronic acid production.

Supplements containing HA are also available. These are generally made from rooster combs or fermented bacteria. While reports have been positive regarding ingestion of these supplements, remember to purchase supplements from reliable sources and from the manufacturer, if possible.

If you don’t want to go with dramatic changes – hyaluronic acid is also very effective when used topically, try it for yourself and see the results from Lifeline’s Eye Firming Complex. HA molecules penetrate the dead skin cell layer and are easily absorbed into the skin. Once there, it increases hydration and improves elasticity, helping to firm, tone and lift. As a bonus, HA works with every skin type. If you have oily skin, just use it alone. But since HA works well with other products, you can use it before your moisturizer if you have dry skin, as well as with other topical skin remedies like acne creams or sunscreens.

April Marks Parkinson’s Awareness Month

World Parkinson’s Day was instituted on April 11th, 1997 to commemorate the birthday of Dr. James Parkinson, the man who first formally identified the disease nearly 200 years ago and penned the 1817 work—“An Essay on the Shaking Palsy.”

Today, the month of April marks the resurgence from winter, the beginning of allergy season, and most importantly, Parkinson’s Awareness Month.

According to the Parkinson's Foundation, Parkinson's disease currently impacts the lives of nearly one million people in the United States and five million people worldwide and can be attributed to a variety of genetic, environmental, and aging factors.

Parkinson’s disease is characterized as a chronic, progressive condition that involves the gradual degeneration of dopaminergic nerve cells in the brain.

While there are no objective tests to diagnose the disease, the current criteria for diagnosis are based on cardinal motor symptoms. These motor symptoms include tremor, slowness of movement, muscle stiffness, balance problems, and loss of short-term memory. Parkinson’s disease can manifest itself in the form of non-motor symptoms like depression, dementia, fatigue, sleep problems, digestive problems, loss of self-esteem, and stress, as well.

While there is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease, great strides are being made into the cause and treatment options, as evident by International Stem Cell Corporation’s (ISCO) newest research developments.

Recently, Parkinson’s disease patient and Australian real estate mogul Kevin Weeks underwent a clinical trial in which 30 million neural stem cells were implanted into 14 different parts of his brain, an unprecedented technology developed by ISCO scientists resulting in improved motor functions.

Those very scientists who are laser-focused on using human non-embryonic stem cells to treat severe diseases, have also been simultaneously developing professional-grade skin care solutions, eventually forming Lifeline Skin Care, the first skin care company to base its line on pluripotent stem cells.

And the best part—100% of the profits from Lifeline are reinvested back into ISCO to fund Parkinson’s disease research because for us, spreading awareness of Parkinson’s disease is a year-round commitment.

Fact vs. Fiction- Do Human Stem Cells Outperform Plant Stem Cells?

With the combined efforts of biologists, geneticists, and clinicians, enormous progress has been made in the field of regenerative medicine and stem cell technology. Stem cells are one of the most promising advancements to come about in recent years, facilitating developments in ways that were inconceivable a few years ago. Novel pathological mechanisms have been explained, new drugs derived from pluripotent stem cells are in the pipeline, and clinical trials using human parthenogenetic stem cells to treat severe ailments such as Parkinson’s disease have been initiated.

Stem cell technology has also emerged as a leader in the newest frontier of skin care. However, much of the excitement around these advances has been hindered by misinformation. So, we figured it’s time to set the record straight.

There are two major types of stem cells that are utilized in skin care products today – plant and human. Both stem cell types possess the ability to self-renew and replace specific cells in need of repair. Unfortunately, the reparative effects of stem cells are limited to its own species; plant stem cells cannot repair and place human tissue. This, in part, is because plant and human cells have entirely different signaling molecules and cell structures that are incompatible with each other.

In other words, human stem cells will not make plants grow healthier and plant stem cells will not make your skin healthier.

Currently, there are no peer reviewed studies that are able to substantiate plant stem cell regenerative effects on human skin other than providing anti-oxidant and moisturizing benefits.

With this in mind, Lifeline Skin Care developed a product line around human stem cells. We have crafted a technology that uses human derived stem cell growth factors to communicate directly with the skin cells and stimulate the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Unlike the hype surrounding plant stem cells, our results are backed by clinical studies, legitimizing the role human stem cells play in skin care and cosmetics.

Lifeline’s Parent Company Treats Parkinson’s Disease Patient Using Innovative New Stem Cell Technology

At 63, real estate icon Kevin Weeks was the picture of good health. He exercised regularly, ate healthy, and didn’t smoke. But, following a week-long cycling tour through the French and Swiss Alps, he returned to his native Australia to attend a friend’s birthday and was greeted by a tidal wave of symptoms synonymous with Parkinson’s disease.

Kevin speculated something was wrong after his hands started to pulsate on the steering wheel while driving to work one morning. And on October 24, 2013, his suspicions were confirmed by a neurologist- the unwelcome diagnosis was early onset Parkinson’s disease.

For anyone whose hobbies include athletics, it may feel as though there are few fates worse than Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing neurons in the brain. Unlike other ailments, Parkinson’s disease doesn’t move in a straight line, making it difficult to pin point exactly how the disease will progress. And it doesn’t discriminate, affecting roughly 7 million to 10 million people worldwide, including high-profile celebrities like Michael J. Fox and the late Muhammad Ali.

But, for Kevin, receiving the news didn’t dissuade him from exploring out-of-the-box treatment options. In December 2016, Kevin became one of the first people in the world to undergo experimental brain surgery involving the injection of neural stem cells, an unprecedented technology developed by the International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO), Lifeline Skin Care’s parent company. The procedure, successfully administered by the team of the Royal Melbourne Hospital neurosurgeons, involved implanting more than 30 million neural stem cells into 14 different locations in the brain. Those stem cells, in turn, replaced the dopamine-producing neurons that were no longer efficient.

Unlike its competitors, ISCO remains on the cusp of innovation as the only company to conduct clinical trials without using embryonic cells, with Kevin’s being a success story that continues to unfold. ISCO’s powerful new stem cell technology promises to significantly advance the field of regenerative medicine. “Our team is working tirelessly to bring the stem cell therapy through clinical trials to improve the quality of life of the millions of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. We will publish the results of our clinical trials and make them available to the public as soon as possible,” commented Russell Kern, PhD, Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of ISCO.

Keep your Complexion in Tip-Top Condition with these 5 Steps

With a multitude of products and an infinite amount of skin care advice circulating in the blogosphere already, finding the perfect regimen can seem like mission impossible. Knowing which products work best together, the order in which to use them, and how they benefit your skin, is incredibly important when developing a routine that works.

Being that we’re skincare fanatics here at Lifeline, we’ve decided to do the work for you. With the expertise of our resident skin gurus and researchers, we've created an easy skin care routine that caters to all skin types, designed to restore your skin’s youthfulness and keep it intensely hydrated from am to pm:

Step 1: Cleanse with Refresh Polishing Gelée

Cleansing removes sweat, oil, dirt and other pollutants that naturally build up on your skin throughout the day and night. Infused with Aloe Vera, green tea extract, and ultra-soft luffa particles, this gelée gently cleans and removes dead skin cells without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance. Following the cleanser, be sure to apply any prescribed treatment exactly as your dermatologist has directed (if applicable).

Step 2: Apply Eye Firming Complex

As we age, collagen and elastin levels in the skin begin to naturally decrease, amplifying the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Our revolutionary Eye Firming Complex is imbued with nutrients and peptides derived from pluripotent non-embryonic human stem cells that work to significantly improve elasticity and strengthen skin’s firmness.

Step 3: Apply Daily Defense Complex/ Recovery Night Moisture Serum or Aqueous Gel Serum for Oily Skin

The skin is subject to damaging environmental stressors like makeup and UV rays during the day and does the bulk of its regenerating while we sleep. Our innovative Daily Defensive Complex and Recovery Night Moisture Serum duo noticeably renews and enriches the skin with a unique blend of antioxidants, peptides, and shea butter no matter what time it is.

As an alternative for those with oily skin, the Aqueous Gel Serum is formulated with powerful proteins and peptides that absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, delivering rich hydration and supporting a healthy, vibrant glow.

Step 4: Apply Neck Firming Complex

World Parkinson's Disease Day - April 11, 2017

This date, April 11, marks the birthday of Dr. James Parkinson, the first surgeon to observe and characterize the disease now known as Parkinson’s disease. In his paper offered in 1817 and titled, “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy”, he named what he observed as “paralysis agitan”. Eventually, the affliction became known as Parkinson’s disease (PD).

PD is a long-term degenerative disease of the central nervous system. It mainly affects the motor system and its symptoms usually have slow-onset. In early stages, the disease is characterized by shaking, slow movement, difficulty in walking, and rigidity. In time, thinking and behavioral problems may occur. Advanced stages of the disease bring dementia.

There is no cure for PD. The loss of motor function results from cell death in the midbrain region known as the substantia nigra. This translates into low dopamine levels in these areas of the brain causing poor control of the musculature.

World-wide, over 10 million people are afflicted with PD and the yearly mortality rate from this disease is greater than 100,000, globally. PD is more common in people over the age of 60, (where approximately, 1% of this age group is affected), and appears more common in males than females.

International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO), a company based in Carlsbad, CA, has devoted many years of research to improve this terrible disease. The Company has developed a unique method of creating human neural stem cells which when introduced into the brain, promote the recovery of dopaminergic neurons, the brain cells that are originally affected and cause the disease symptoms. ISCO’s preclinical studies showed that the administration of these neural stem cells were safe and improved motor symptoms while increasing dopamine concentrations. To date, 3 of the planned total of 12 patients, have entered the clinical trial and have received neural stem cells. At this point in time, all patients have been discharged from their hospital settings and are observed to be meeting clinical expectation.

Lifeline Skin Care (LSC), is a subsidiary of ISCO. LSC uses the extracts from human stem cells, (produced by ISCO), and developed for the skin in order to improve the signs of aging. The latest technology being used to advance a cure for PD is now available for the skin in a line of products produced by Lifeline Skin Care. The profits derived from the sale of these skin care products go directly to ISCO in order to fund the development of a therapy for PD.

Lifeline Skin Care has developed a line of products that treat the different areas of our skin. All of these serums contain human stem cell extracts. These human stem cell extracts stimulate skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin which naturally decrease with age. As a result, clinical observations have demonstrated that skin treated with serums containing the human stem cell extracts appear younger than the subject’s true chronological age.

As remarkable as these human stem cell extracts are, they would not be effective if not for a method of preserving them and allowing their absorption into the skin, itself. Lifeline has developed a method of micro encapsulating these extracts inside microspheres in order to preserve and help promote absorption into the skin and to the very depth and level where activity is required.

The ability to reduce the signs of aging is now possible using ISCO’s stem cell technology. Lifeline Skin Care is proud to offer this patented and state-of-the-art technology to the public and in return, be able to contribute to the therapy for Parkinson's Disease.

A Men's Skin Care Regimen That Actually Works

In this day and age, we widely accept the digital technology that has replaced the analog world. As a matter of fact, we have come to assume and expect that our interactions with today’s technology will be that of solid state, digital, and state-of-the-art. So why shouldn’t this technology carry over and apply to how men take care, preserve, and renew their bodies? For example, when it comes to men's skin care and reversing the signs of aging, many still cling to the old ways of trying to exfoliate and hydrate when all of these techniques do not render what is sought.

Lifeline Skin Care, a subsidiary of International Stem Cell Corporation and a leading company in the research of treating and reversing Parkinson’s disease as well as liver disease, has focused on this technology for the largest organ of the body, our skin. They have developed and perfected state-of-the-art technology using non-embryonic, human stem cells in order to actually preserve as well as reduce the appearance of skin aging. Some products claim these same results using plant-based stem cells; however, humans are not plants. Only human stem cell extracts can communicate with the cells in our bodies to achieve the human results required.

Traditionally, men have always had difficulty when trying to maintain their skin. First and foremost, most men shave their face on a regular/daily basis. Trying to incorporate the use of creams and salves from the past 80 years with a daily shaving routine is not easy. When no results occur, the practice is quickly abandoned. However, the state-of-the-art products now offered by Lifeline Skin Care provide a line of products that are easy to use and are conducive to the practice of shaving while delivering the scientific results intended for rejuvenating and reducing the appearance of skin damage and skin age. The following list and brief description of products are offered for your consideration.

SKIN CARE REGIMEN:

Brightening Cleanser

The use of this cleanser initiates the anti-aging process. Prior to shaving and/or the application of the stem cell extracts, the ultra-fine powders in the Brightening Cleanser containing salicylic acid and rice enzymes, thoroughly clean the skin and its pores of oil and dead cells. The cleansers vitamins and antioxidants revitalize the skin, leaving it noticeably smoother and brighter looking. This is the first step in the reversal of fine-lines and wrinkles and preparing the renewed skin for acceptance of the stem cell extracts.

Brightening Toner

After shaving and just prior to application of the stem cell extracts, the use of this toner is recommended. While soothing the skin, this toner offers vitamin B3 which has been proven for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as demonstrating skin lightening. Tetrapeptide-30 helps to diminish differential pigmentation as well as age spots and sun spots thus granting a more even skin color appearance.

Daily Defense Complex

At this point, the skin is now ready for the Defense Complex which delivers human (non-embryonic) stem cell extracts. At the cellular level, these extracts interact with cell mechanics to initiate and stimulate the natural production of collage, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Simply stated, the presence of these key compounds within the skin cell is associated with healthy, youthful skin. The Defense Complex also delivers Ultrasomes which engage in natural DNA repair activity brought about by UV damage. Also contained in the Defense Complex are Celligent and UGL Complex which promote rapid repair to damaged cells and prevent signs of aging, respectively.

The regimen suggested above may easily be adapted to one’s daily routine. Prior to shaving, one usually washes their face with a plain soap. Substituting the soap for the Brightening Cleanser would then be in order. After shaving, many people apply a skin toner or bracer to the face. Substituting this product for the use of the Brightening Toner would be recommended. Therefore, the only additional product needed would be the application of the Daily Defense Complex. This Complex delivers the most excitement….that of true skin rejuvenation on the cellular level brought about by human (non-embryonic) stem cell extracts.
