The Campaign builds on a pilot project assessed results at 50 UNESCO ASPnet schools + 50 Life-Link associated schools in 19 countries 2007-2008, and is supported by the Call for Action at the United Nations / UNESCO Decade on Education for Sustainable Development mid-term world-conference in Bonn 2009.At school level, the Campaign annually includes three “15-hours” actions/courses: Culture of Care, Water for Life and RRR Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.

Each action, with 3 lessons and 2 self-studies, is to be performed by appointed school-classes during a month’s time. The actions should preferably be performed annually at all classes in the appointed grade/s, thus each year bringing new students in contact with the campaign.

UNESCO ASP-net Coordinators, Life-Link Advisors, Other School-Networks Campaign promoters,

Update the list of schools that will participate within your network or organisation. Life-Link has received valuable information from several countries and ASPnet coordinators with names of schools, number of classes and approximate number of students. Such information might need updating – you are welcome to add some new schools.

Forward a copy of this newsletter to each school’s campaign responsible contact person. The school coordinator is responsible for contacts with national or regional campaign coordinator, and also for the schools registration and contact with www.life-link.org.

ASPnet national coordinators in Arab countries will receive Teachers Guidelines in Arabic/English version from UNESCO Beirut office. Keep in contact with UNESCO Beirut if you need any additional information on campaign pedagogic material.

NEXT AT MY SCHOOL – CHECKLIST

Appoint a Campaign 2010-2014 School coordinator (principal or teacher or staff person or an active parent with administration skills)

Decide and invite all (preferably!) classes within one grade at your school (students age around 14-16 years – not in final grade). Introduce the Campaign 2010-2014 to the involved class-teachers.

Plan for three 2-hours lessons and two 3-hours self-studies to be performed during 3-4 weeks time in October 2010, why not start first Lesson around United Nations Peace Day 21 September!

Introduction

• Life-Link listing. During the campaign your school must for administration reason be listed within the Life-Link register. Your school will then be given a specific Life-Link school number to be remembered. Life-Link listing is only made once during the campaign. There are no commitments or legal conditions with this listing, your school can at any moment step out from the Life-Link register.
  On the other hand, your school might find it useful to be connected to and ESD-promoting program with possibilities for Dialogue with other schools, there are already 700 schools listed in the Life-Link network – May 2010, www.life-link.org, Schools & Actions.
• Campaign Action registration.Your school campaign coordinator must perform a simple Campaign action registration for each action in order to get access to relevant assessment forms and guidelines, and for the campaign to compile statistics. This means three registrations per year if you perform the three proposed campaign actions that we hope you will like! Your Life-Link number is now useful!

Registration step-by-step

• Open the http://earthcare.life-link.org > Culture of Care > Register for CoC 2010.
• Alternative 1. Your school is already listed in the Life-Link register.
  • Find out your school’s Life-Link number (from www.life-link.org > Schools and Actions > Country > your school – click)
  • Then introduce your school’s Life-Link number and click on Refresh button.
  • Register your school within the campaign action
• Alternative 2. Your school is not yet listed within the Life-Link register.
  • Then follow the instructions to list your school in the Life-Link register. You will be given a Life-Link school number
  • Remember your number for the next campaign action registration, when you as a Life-Link school will follow the Alternative 1.
