According to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), millions of devotees attended the fluvial procession on Saturday morning and the solemn procession in the afternoon officially kick off the feast of the miraculous image of the Sto. Niño de Cebu, the Holy Child Jesus.

Except for a small motorized banca that sank during the fluvial procession participated in by at least 200 vessels, no other accident was recorded during crowded fluvial parade and the solemn foot procession that lasted nearly six hours."

"As the death toll from tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi) continues to approach the 1,000 mark, authorities on Wednesday estimated the damage to property caused by the storm as nearing P1 billion.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, the number of fatalities had reached 976, with 1,603 injured and 46 still missing.

On the other hand, the NDRRMC said "Sendong" had affected 65,067 families or 348,749 people in 319 villages in 31 towns and eight cities in 13 provinces.

Some 10,039 families or 44,213 people are being served in 60 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC also said the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure, agriculture and school buildings has so far amounted to P999,946,415.

Deaths reach 957, hundreds still missing

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Tropical storm "Sendong" (international name Washi) is the world's deadliest storm this year, latest data shows.

The storm, which struck Northern Mindanao, the Visayas, and Palawan over the weekend, has now killed at least 957 people, the country's disaster management chief said Tuesday morning.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Director Benito Ramos also said they have lost count of the number of people who have gone missing following the flashfloods spawned by the storm."

MANILA, Philippines - People looking for friends and relatives who have gone missing because of tropical storm Sendong may find help from Internet tech giant Google. Google has set up a Person Finder tool to locate people in the disaster-affected areas in Northern Mindanao and elsewhere. The tool, which is in English and Filipino, also allows people to share information about people in the flooded communities. To search information regarding a person, one only needs to enter a name in the tool and it will provide information based on records in database. The tool was tracking 200 records of people as of Monday afternoon.

Tropical Storm Sendong (international name: Washi) ravaged Mindanao, slamming it with devastating rains and unleashing flash floods and landslides that have left a horrifying trail of destruction. As of 10AM, the death toll has reached 497 (Cagayan De Oro 215, Iligan City 195, Bukidnon 47, Negros Oriental 22, Lanao del Norte 9, Compostela Valley 5, Zamboanga del Norte 3, Surigao del#Sur 1). Most of the dead were asleep Friday night when raging floodwaters pounded their homes from rivers and cascaded from mountain slopes following 12 straight hours of heavy rains in Mindanao. The typhoon has affected a total of 5,884 families, with 202 injured and 162 still missing. 2,252 are still sheltered at 23 evacuation centers.

Pusuke, a male cross breed, breathed his last on Monday afternoon, at the ripe old age of 26 years and nine months, making him the equivalent of more than 120 in human years, reports said.

The animal suddenly refused to eat and appeared to be having difficulty breathing after many years of good health, owner Yumiko Shinohara said, according to Kyodo News.

The canine died in the early afternoon, watched by his owner."

ABS-CBN News | Latest Philippine Headlines, Breaking News, Video, Analysis, Features: "HONOLULU - Some 120 aging survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor were among 5,000 people who marked its 70th anniversary on Wednesday with a quiet, often emotional ceremony at water's edge.

With a light rain falling, speakers remembered those killed or wounded seven decades ago as well as survivors who fought in World War Two following the Japanese air and naval assault on Dec. 7, 1941, that brought the United States into the war.

"We gather here today to commemorate the 70th anniversary of one of the most significant events of the 20th century," 88-year-old veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor Mal Middlesworth said in a keynote address."
