“No, I am not fed up. I never got into it in the first place to get fed up of as an outcome.” – She was looking at my face with a curiosity to get her puzzle solved.

“And still you are not involved!” – I was wondering about what all she was telling she enjoyed doing.

“No… I always keep feeling I am missing something, which I really don’t know what it is. So I keep searching… and when I don’t get it, I sort of feel I am bored.” – She was sounding mysterious to me.

“You were saying you had a cure for boredom… you cured yours!” – She was hopefully looking at my face as she said these words.

As I took off my rucksack from my shoulders and kept it down on the wooden floor of the room, my peripheral vision sensed someone peeping in from the door. As I turned my eyes toward the door I saw a lady knocking at it. I started laughing at her action of balancing her peeping with knocking as an afterthought.

I kept looking at her face without saying a single word for as long as more than a minute. Then suddenly words came to my mouth – “What are you up to?”

“… Getting bored on earth…!” – She replied crisp.

“And you think meditation techniques are going to take you out of your boredom?” – I became interested.

“I hope so.” – Came her reply.

“I don’t know about meditation, nor do I know about meditation techniques; but I know something about boredom.” – I had started finding talking to her interesting by now.

“Do you?” – She looked into my eyes deep.

“I myself was…” – I stopped.

“What?” – She was getting curious.

“… Bored…!” – I had gone down the memory lane.

“… Of…?” – She went impatient.

“… Life…! Then I did something that turned me deeply interested in it.” – I was trying to convey what I had gone through during my past few years.

“Tell me. That’s what I call the real meditation techniques. Whatever it is, you seem to be having more of it than those professionals sitting over there in Rishikesh. Was it something that swayed me here just because you were drifting along these valleys too?” – She had gone ecstatic.

“I am wondering how someone can build up so much of trust on another in such a short span as you have done it on me within a few minutes only! It’s not normal…” – I couldn’t complete my sentence as Lara suddenly stood up from the floor.

“I am abnormal… and I have an abnormal sense of reading people by what they say and how they look at you. I am happy I met you here. See you later.” – She left the room as I started settling myself in the environment over there.

The second chunk came from the traditional arts and crafts of the state that were famous for their superior quality all over the world, comprising hand woven carpets, papier mache, wood carving, brass and silver Ware, silk textiles, shawls, rugs, tweed, pherans and embroidery.

Along with being one of the major international travel destinations, Kashmir also used to offer the beautiful locals to the thriving film industry of India for shooting their movies in its picturesque valleys, meadows and snow-clad peaks. There was hardly a time all through the year when one or the other movie was not being shot whether here or there in the state somewhere!

It was such a beautiful land that I had transported myself to as I tried to play the game of life to come out of the psychological emptiness that Eva’s departure had thrown me in!

As I looked at the valley while entering into it up from the mountains around, I was simply left awe-stricken! I could never have imagined there could ever be such a beautiful place on earth, had I not been there witnessing it right in front of my eyes.

The valley was like a dish protruded up on its edges by the mountains that surrounded it. And through the valley that was dotted with so many awe-inspiring lakes and gardens inside it, ran the beautiful river Jhelum, a tributary of the Chenab River from the bank of which in the Lahaul valley I had just moved on to this one.

The only difference was that I was now alone, exactly like I was when I had entered the Kullu valley pitching my tent in Manali on the banks of the river Manalsu where Eva had come to pitch hers along with mine.

What had this new valley got in store for me to play the game of life, I just didn’t know and moved down into the heaven that it was!

Eva had left and I was left alone in the midst of those lofty mountains that were giving me company as much as they had given when the two of us were roaming in their valleys talking to each other, playing together and loving each other in the most mysterious ways even beyond imagination. We had created an entire world of two in between the two of us.

And now I had to keep my mouth shut all the day long. The mountains didn’t know how to speak. They only stood still as I walked my way along them. And when I ate, there was no one to share my food with me. I couldn’t even make any mischief since there was no one to play the game of life naughty along…

“I will be left alone with half a soul at my disposal, I feel now. Never felt it in the past!” – I held her hands in mine.

She immediately hugged me tight, saying – “I wish I could stay with you here forever or else I could take you there to California along. But I am not going to stay even there as such. I’ll get some money from there and move on to China this time, now.”

“Why are you traversing the surface of the planet? What is making you do all this that you are doing? What are you up to here in life?” – I hugged her even tighter as if she were a bird that would fly away out of my hands to the skies of China if my grip went even a little loose on her.

“I don’t know why I am doing what all I am doing. There is something in me that always keeps me on the move. Even the thought of stopping at a place and settling down somewhere gives me chills down my spine. I don’t want to get settled, marry someone and then give birth to kids… only to leave them alone on their own, later; like they did with me!” – Eva’s eyes were blank as she was going on saying all this.

“Who?” – I asked though I knew.

“My parents! There IS something seriously wrong somewhere in all our relationships here on earth. Search, my soulmate! Search and complete your collective soul search, and we MAY meet again to play the game of life more beautiful than it is right now so. I will never forget you, at least till I am alive.” – And she started kissing me everywhere on my face while the two of us kept drinking each other’s tears flowing down our cheeks right on to our lips!

… 33 years later today… I haven’t yet forgotten my soulmate nor have I forgotten her collective soul search to play the game of life even if a little better than we do it now! I am quite ON with the whole thing, Eva!

“Gravity seems to be one of the reasons owing to the sheer force that it pulls our bodies down toward the earth with. All the life force has always worked to stand up against the gravity, but in humans it hasn’t yet been able to do flawlessly so just because we are the first species who ventured into the new step of standing on our twos rather than keeping limited to be standing on fours.” – I presented my hypothesis to her.

“They give birth to the fear of falling down, which is the mother of all emotions in the mind… and that we are born with as we come out of our mothers’ wombs. In turn emotions create a new contraction in the body musculature, which is of squeezing the muscles IN. Gravity is to the body what emotions are to the mind. Both turn them heavy. So in effect the two working in conjunction with each other keep our body awfully pulled DOWN and squeezed IN, giving birth to all the ailments of age and ugliness including obesity in the body as well as stress of tensions in the mind. Both never stay relaxed all through our life.” – I was feeling sorry to be presenting such a negative picture of what the realities of life were; still my spirit was to play the game of life in its fullness though in a sorry mood at the moment.

“What’s the way out?” – Eva had sat down on a rock by now, immersed in deep thoughts quietly.

“Whatever it is, it certainly must use the power of technological advances that we have been capable of doing by now during our tenure here on this planet as a species.” – I started laughing.

What could that something even more effective than these be?” – I was seeing a clear sparkling shine in her eyes as she was giving words to her hopes in her mind supported by my assertion that I had just put forward.

I didn’t answer and just stretched my body full… UP and OUT; and when she didn’t follow suit, I took her hands in mine and stretched her along too until we started laughing as loud as we could.
