This not only applies to the people who have been reading this blog but also those who are in my circle of influence.

If you listen to the radio, watch any TV or pay attention to anything that is going on in the political landscape now, you are probably noticing a lot of promises being made with very little follow through.

As this may not sound uncommon when you are dealing with politicians, it seems to be more prevalent today then in any other time in our history.

If you are those who were anticipating the passing of the “FREE” health care system that was promised, you are probably pretty upset. And for those who would have had to fund this you are probably pretty happy.

When you have a government who promises something to you for nothing, do not be fooled by this. Someone will have to pay for this. If you are one who would benefit from such a set up, you need to be very careful.

This is what is called “Re-Distribution of Wealth”. This is a bad thing and never works out in the end.

If you look at history, you continually see countries and societies that fall when this starts to happen.

When you get rewarded with programs or entitlements that you are not contributing to you are breaking a key to success that will never be denied. And that is the “cause and effect” law of success.

You will always have to pay the price for what you get. It is only a matter of time.

When your success and rewards come from the efforts you put forth, this is when positive things happen for everyone around you.

I am going to leave with one more quote that is also very timely.

“Beware of those who seek to take care of you lest your caretakers become your jailers.” – Jim Rohn

When you rely on something outside of yourself for your happiness, you soon become a slave those or the situation that makes you happy!

This is probably one of the greatest quotes about time management ever made.

What are spending your time on?

If you are focused on activities that are not bringing you the results you are looking for, then it is time to start focusing your efforts and time on the things that will bring you the results that you are looking for.

For most this seems to be a pipe dream… to be able to live off of the interest or investment income of your own resources.

Does that sound far fetched for you?

It is never too late to get going on the simple plan laid out above by the late, great Jim Rohn. It just takes a little discipline and effort to make the right decisions about your time and your money.

If you are like most, I’m sure you currently have a job. And you have income that is coming in from that job.

Another great quote is…

“The philosophy of the rich versus the poor is this: The rich invest their money and spend what’s left; the poor spend their money and invest what’s left.” – Jim Rohn

The best way to get started investing some of your income is by signing up and participating in your employers 401K plan. Some employers still match part of your contributions which automatically gives you a good start on your retirement savings.

From there, it would be a good idea to start taking some of your income and starting a business of your own.

There are many great online resources that can help you to get started here. Affiliate programs, Internet Marketing, MLM’s and many more.

From there it is important to grow your business and then start to invest your profit into investments that will return more income to you!

I think this is one of the greatest quotes by Jim Rohn.

He had a talent for breaking down complicated ideas into a way that made them very easy to understand.

When I think of that quote, I think of the word “disciplines” and I think of our habits. Habits are formed by our thoughts and the actions we take on those thoughts.

When our actions are congruent with the “positive” thoughts that we have we are making forward progress. But when our actions are not inline with those “positive” thoughts we are not making forward progress.

Let’s look at our eating habits to illustrate this. When we think about ourselves eating sensibly and healthy but we end up at the McDonald’s drive thru getting the Big Mac for every meal, we are not creating the proper habits to get us to where we would like to be.

The key is to get our actions to be in line with the picture of what we would like our lives to be like.

Another person that I have great respect for is Lee Milteer. She has put together a great program that addresses our habits and the way we can go about getting our actions to be congruent with the thoughts that we have for our ideal life and creating the habits to make that happen.

Jim Rohn passed on December 5, 2009. Jim was a great teacher of success and this world is a greater place for his being on this planet. He started his path to success working in the network marketing business and getting into a group with his mentor, Earl Shoaff, who opened his eyes to a “new” way of looking at things that ended up making him a millionaire.

Jim spent most of his life after that taking the time hone his skills of presenting ideas in such a way that made it easy for others to understand.

His simple ways of explaining success was very effective and he impacted a lot of people in this world.

When I first came across his teachings, I started listening to his cassettes driving back and forth to work and to be honest with you, I didn’t understand him and I didn’t like him. All of that without really knowing him.

What I found out was that I wasn’t ready for his message. The reason I say that is because I picked up the same tape program about five years later and it was like he was my long lost rich uncle with a lot wisdom. It was amazing to me.

I was lucky to see Jim on two occasions:

1. In Florida, I flew down and back in one day to see him do his Challenge to Succeed program.

2. In Anaheim, CA, I flew out to see his weekend event. I invested in the gold package and sat in the second row on the aisle. It was a great event.

I am thankful that he was put on this earth.

As I looked back over 2009, I found that I had many victories and quite a few defeats as well.

When I dived a little deeper into the defeats to determine what the cause was for these defeats, I found that they had one common thread between them. And that was a habit that I had that stopped me short of accomplishing the goal that I had set.

It was either a habit of action or a habit of thought that stopped me short of reaching these goals.

I found that completely amazing!

What I am doing this year is a little different.

I am going to…

1. Set my goals – Using the SMART goal setting method I am going to set my aggressive goals for 2010.

2. Determine the different thinking patterns and different action patterns that will be necessary to achieve these goals and work them through the Habit Busting System – By using the Habit Busting System, I will be working directly on the thoughts and actions that I need to change in order to make the habit change necessary to reach the goals.

3. Take measurable action everyday towards the achievement of these goals.

I am also going to lay myself on the line in front of you this year. I am going to post my goals this year on this website so you can see my progress. This is a little different than what I normally do but it will not only keep me accountable to me but also to the readers of this blog.

One of my major goals for 2010 is getting myself back in shape. This past year my father had some health issues that almost ended his life. I went to visit him when this was going on and I noticed something about the both of us. We are basically the same shape. Only I am a little taller. And he said something to me that really made me think, he said, “John, if you don’t take care of yourself, you could be facing these problems too.”

Well to be quite honest with you, I don’t want to be facing those problems.

I will be posting a page that will have a link on the top of this page that will go to my goals page and you will be able to follow along with me, on my path to reaching my 2010 goals.
