It’s been five years since my last New Year’s greeting post (2015), and two years before that – was my regular post (2013).

This blog was left sleeping. I haven’t updated it. Prior to COVID-19 pandemic, I was busy with my regular work – being a web developer and designer. As well as being a family man, a father of two awesome kiddos – a boy and a girl.

This blog also gets a lot of spam force registrations, posts, and comments. So, I decided to change it – updated the design and added captcha to help in filtering spam registrations, posts, and comments.

Like the comment I don’t trust doctors at all and here is why. Unlike the last commenter my gall bladder was not removed until it was extremely painful and when they took it out it was gangrenous and it almost killed me. Doctors have killed 2 of my sisters one by not properly diagnosing lung cancer until it was stage 4 and other by not treating another sister after finding stage 1 lung cancer. I have seen people in my family die and almost die because of incompetence and carelessness. I have seen them giving one drug and then another because the first drug cause another problem and on and on and on. In addition I worked in hospitals for 41 years and saw the good, bad and the ugly and believe me there are plenty of mistakes and not only in surgery.

To stay healthy or to get healthy do your research and don’t be afraid to ask your physician questions; and challenge your physician and always, always before surgery get a second and even third opinion. And if your young considering becoming a physicians because we are in dire need of good ones.

The company that I am currently employed, gave us some food treat – lunch at Pizza Hut. Part of the combo meal that we ordered was the Caesar Salad – 2 bowls of green leafy vegetables with topping and dressings. It has crisp romaine lettuce, bacon crumble, parmesan cheese, and herbed croutons tossed in Pizza Hut’s own Caesar dressing.

I am not a fan of this kind of food but for those vegetables lovers, I think this feels like heaven for them. I tried it though, but with just a few leaves and I was done. I was able to eat this vegetable salad even if I no longer have gallbladder. There’s no side effects that I encountered afterwards. No upset stomach, no bloating whatsoever. It may be because I only ate a little.

My colleagues were also not into veggie salad. That left the other bowl untouched.

This soft meal is what I ate for my breakfast as well as lunch on the Black Saturday – Champorado with sugar and powder milk. Some people said that chocolate is not good for person without gallbladder like me, but it seems that my system has totally adjusted to this kind of food. With two meals – breakfast and lunch, I did not experience any upset stomach or any stomach discomfort.

Chocolate could trigger some stomach reactions for others that don’t have gallbladder. But for me, I felt fine after eating and even until retiring to bed, there was no adverse reaction to Champorado.

It’s been a while since my last update of this life without gallbladder blog.

Christmas Time
Christmas was celebrated throughout the world and part of the celebration is the food that is served on the table. It’s a tradition of my wife’s family to have a lechon baboy (roasted pig) during Christmas eve. The roasted pig is the main dish, the main attraction to say.

Food Is Served, Let’s Eat!

I only captured the aftermath of the lechon baboy. Children and adults alike love the roasted pig.

Me, without gallbladder did eat the roasted pig. Not just a small cut but it was the only dish I ate together with white rice plus softdrinks after. The crunchiness of the lechon skin plus the juicy and tasty meat was hard to resist. I know that there’s a possibility that I might get a stomach ache or even a diarrhea because of the fats. Yet, it did not stop me from eating roasted pig eventhough I don’t have a gallbladder.

I am living without gallbladder for 3 years and 1 month now. Although, I previously ate roasted pig (lechon baboy) in some occasions but those were on moderation. This time, it was like no-other-day, eat-all-you-can roasted pig. The result was okay, I did not have any stomach ache nor diarrhea. Even on the morning, there was no stomach discomfort.

Eating roasted pig (lechon baboy) without a gallbladder – PASSED!

Without Gallbladder: Lechon Baboy/Roasted Pig is part of my food to eat.

It was a Throwdown Calzone, which was stuffed with beef, bologna, salami, chorizo bilbao, mushroom, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and onion. It was my first time to eat a calzone, though I already eat a lot of pizzas before. And I can say it was good and delicious. So yummy. You can feel the melted cheese when you bite. You can taste the ingredients.

Then one of my officemates asked if it’s okay to for me to eat a calzone since it has cheese and I no longer have a gallbladder. I replied that I don’t know because I hadn’t eaten one before. So, it was a test if eating a calzone is okay for me, a person without a gallbladder. But I was positive that I will be fine because I was able to eat a lot of pizzas before, though I wasn’t able to post here how my system reacted.

So, the result of eating calzone with no gallbladder was good. Eventhough, cheese was part of the foods to be avoided, but I did not get an upset stomach – no stomach discomfort. I am safe to eat calzone eventhough I don’t have a gallbladder anymore.

I saw this picture as I was checking my backup folder since our HP server died down. It was taken during the visit of the owner of the company, which I am connected, here in Cebu City, Philippines. We had our company lunch out at Choi City Seafood Restaurant. It served as a farewell lunch as our boss was scheduled to fly back to California, United States.

We thought that it was just an ordinary round table but it turned out that the company owner made a reservation in one of the function rooms on the second floor. He, together with our purchasing officer, chose and talked about the food to be ordered in the food menu. The rest of us just waited for the food to be served. But we had our take on the drinks and I chose the Buko Shake just to be different with the rest.

Drinks were first served then followed by soup – the Wonton Chicken Soup. Then everything followed – Rice, Beef Curry, Sweet & Sour Pork, Hot Prawn Salad, and other dishes that I forgot the names. I was busy tasting every dish that the waiters put on the table. I even forgot that I no longer have a gallbladder and I was the last man standing.

The food was superb – tasty and delicious.

Just as we thought that everything was served, the Steamed Lapu-Lapu arrived and was served on the table. What? Some of my office mates were done eating and there was the steamed fish. Yet, the Steamed Lapu-Lapu fish was not spared, what left were the heads and the bones.

Everyone was full as we left the Choi City – Cebu and we even declined the yogurt dessert offered by our boss.

I did not mind if my system would react to Cantonese/Chinese foods that time as I don’t have gallbladder. I was thinking a lunch feast. But at the end of the day, I did not experience any stomach discomfort whatsoever – neither gas pain nor diarrhea. I was able to eat Cantonese/Chinese foods even without gallbladder.

And it was a great eating experience at Choi City Seafood Restaurant, the “Best Chinese Restaurant of the Year 2012” recognized by the Business Achievement and Recognition Award giving body. Choi City Cebu Branch is located at South Arcade, Banilad Town Center, Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, Banilad, Cebu City – right at the south end of the Banilad overpass.
