LP027: Times-Call refuses to run an editorial, 2 papers say vote NO to fracking ban, and election predictions

On Episode 27 of Longmont Politics, Chris talked about the Times Call refusing to run his “Longmont’s Liberal/Progressive Thugocracy” editorial, and made some comments in general about the newspaper/media industry. Then it was onto Ballot Question 300 (the ban on fracking) and how it’s main speaker is now saying that if the ban (and cost of lawsuits or private property concerns) gets too expensive, we can just repeal it in a special election! Chris read the editorial by four councilmembers asking voters to vote NO on 300, and then played audio of Longmont City Council Mayor Pro Tem Gabe Santos speaking to council – as a private citizen – also imploring voters to vote NO on 300, citing the excellent Denver Post editorial requesting the same.

Chris then passed along rumors on the campaign trail relating to 300, and thoughts on the St. Vrain Valley School District mill levy 3A and how they are illegally placing yard signs all over the city. It was then on to observations around the city, including the shortage of Obama yard signs, and the possible outcome of the various races, including State House, Congressional, and Presidential races. And yes, some predictions were made.

LP025: Presidential debate, Longmont Candidate forum and an OHOFOL sounding ROAR

On Episode 25 of Longmont Politics, Chris gave his impressions of the U.S. Presidential Debate, as well as the Longmont Debate & Forum. The main event was the debate between Congressional District 4 candidates Cory Gardner and Brandon Shaffer. Their debate brought up the issue of NISP (Northern Integrated Supply Project), and how Mr. Shaffer would not answer the question of if he supported it.

Next was Longmont Ballot Question 300, which is to ban fracking. A new group called Main Street Longmont has put out mailers and a TV ad, as well as their website NoOn300.com. On the other side, Our Health Our Future Our Longmont (OHOFOL – pronounced AWFUL) has a goal of raising $45,000 and has so far raised less than $600. But at least they have some great prizes for your non-tax deductible contribution.

Chris also made some off-the-cuff remarks about rumors of people thinking of running for mayor of Longmont in response to Dennis Coombs lackluster job, and sets the record straight on VoteLongmont!

Then it was on to Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and his visit to Longmont involving fracking and the harassment he received and the near-riot by Our Health, Our Future, Our Longmont (OHOFOL).

Chris then talked about his current presidential predictions, and finished up with the story of Longmont City Councilmember Brian Bagley and his accidental bringing of a firearm to the Boulder County courthouse.

On Episode 23 of Longmont Politics, Chris responded to a response to his “Brandon Shaffer’s Akin Moment” Times-Call guest opinion article, where the original Denver Post writer backs up exactly what Chris said. Then it was on to Longmont City Councilmembers speaking out AGAINST the fracking ban that will be on the ballot, City of Longmont Ballot Question 300, or as it should be called “The Longmont Lawsuit Invitation Act“. Erie took a different course, instead deciding on an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) instead of regulations stricter than the state – or worse, a voter induced fracking ban.

Finally, I highlighted some wise words by Percy Conarroe and Paul Danish in reference to fracking and lawsuits.

It was then discussion of the Twin Peaks Mall, Panattoni, Harvest Junction, the Vance Brand Airport. Finally, we went through the quite revealing and troubling mental sewage in the form of tweets from former Longmont City Councilmember Sean McCoy, as well as those who “think” they are competition for me or any sane thinking person. Friendly Fire Episode 14 was a LIVE event at A Bit of Billiards in Longmont, Colorado on June 11, 2012. This was our season finale – we’ll return after Labor Day.

Yet another installment of Hillbillies In Space which featured the “doucheburger” and suing for herpes. Bill from Apollon Astrology gave a chart reading of Angie of Pure Energy Karaoke. We argued once again about Spaceballs and food. Anthony and Josh from SportsTalk interviewed the Boulder County Bombers Roller Derby team.

Then the musical part of the show began when Chris and Stephen sang a song to our favorite fan Alissa. We talked about other shows on the network (Longmont Politics and In The Field Camping), which lead Chris to bring out his guitar and play “Rocky Mountain High” with Anthony and Stephen helping out in vocals. Next Chris surprised Stephen by playing “Losing My Religion“, Stephen being an atheist and all, then Stephen took over the lead vocals. We then talked about random topics from previous shows.

On Episode 14 of Longmont Politics, we condensed 2 hours of public testimony at the May 22nd Longmont City Council meeting about oil/gas regulations down to about 25 minutes. ”Exceptional benefit”, aka the McCoy Annexation Extortion Scheme, was done away with at this meeting as well. Longmont Area Dems (@longmontdems) goes on the attack of those they disagree with, and fraudulently pretending to hyperlink to this site - Longmont Politics. Notice how we actually link to them, unlike them we’re not afraid of the competition, as unhinged as it is in this case. Finally I further expanded on my Times-Call letter about voter ID requirements.

On Friendly Fire EP12, we more or less had a “Food Fight” where we didn’t agree to disagree on what we like and what we loathe. During the show we sampled Smoked Salmon Bruschetta from local restaurant Sugarbeet. To help alleviate Stephen’s anti-Mexican cuisine issues, we plied him with tequila, to no avail. In the AFTERSHOW gave a shout out to a new ethnic food company startup to keep an eye out for and that will be sampled in a future show – Silver Monkey Cuisine.

* This show is dedicated in memory of our listener Tiffany Holt who passed away at the age of 29, a few short weeks after joining us in the chat room for this show.
