Shows mark first industry demonstrations of LightSpeed for iPad, retail’s first truly interactive customer-experience platform

Montreal, Canada – With last month’s launch of LightSpeed for iPad, LightSpeed now offers retailers a comprehensive suite of retail tools for the iGeneration, a large and powerful consumer force that grew up with the intuitive and simple user interfaces of iPods, iTunes, iPhones and iPads and whose members are attracted to shopping encounters that deliver the same experience. The iGeneration is also an entrepreneurial group, one that is active in new retail ventures and keen to bring the same elegance and ease of use to the tools they use to manage their businesses and to offer exceptional and interactive customer experiences.

Effective immediately, iGeneration retailers across the globe can deploy LightSpeed, with the availability of LightSpeed for iPad and LightSpeed Mobile expanded from seven countries to over 120 through iTunes. Now the world can deploy the latest in retail technology.

LightSpeed will be showcasing its robust, fully integrated set of retail tools for the iGeneration at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, next week’s National Retail Federation’s Retail’s BIG Show in New York and Macworld/iWorld at the end of the month in San Francisco.

“CES, NRF and Macworld/iWorld mark the industry unveiling of LightSpeed for iPad, our most interactive and elegant retail tool yet,” said Dax Dasilva, LightSpeed CEO and founder. “We’ve had thousands of downloads of our iPad app since launching it just three weeks ago, which shows that retailers are excited to get their hands on new tools that help them better engage with their customers and deliver an exceptional shopping experience.”

LightSpeed is a comprehensive and award-winning retail system that moves seamlessly from the front counter, to online, to wherever customers are – using Mac, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. LightSpeed products are multi-user, multi-store and extensible through a developer API so that software never limits retail aspirations.

LightSpeed’s tools include extensive quoting, ordering and invoicing capabilities, label and barcode printing, reporting, inventory management, customer profiling and tracking, credit-card processing and gift cards in addition to multi-store functionality. The core platform can be extended by deploying LightSpeed eCommerce, LightSpeed Mobile, or LightSpeed for iPad.

LightSpeed for iPad is retail’s first truly interactive customer-experience platform. Robust enough for serious, inventory-centric retailers, it offers a brand new personalized selling experience combined with inventory scanning, wireless payments and the powerful retail workflows of LightSpeed, all on the world’s most popular tablet. More than just POS, LightSpeed for iPad is an interactive sales tool that elevates the shopping experience with the novel and captivating Show & Tell feature. This feature allows sales reps to use the iPad to share expanded product details and up to five zoomed images on a stylish curtained backdrop. The iPad’s vivid high-resolution display lets customers and salespeople alike view detailed images of store inventory that is not close at hand, whether it’s apparel, hard goods or large items where the increased size of the image provides important detail. Transactions can be completed with a few taps and a credit card swipe, all right on the iPad.

LightSpeed eCommerce is a connector that uploads products and images to the online store of choice – whether LightSpeed Web Store or Magento eCommerce – and downloads orders back into LightSpeed, offering a solution that is fully integrated with the existing LightSpeed invoicing and fulfillment workflows.

LightSpeed Mobile transforms the way retailers sell to their customers using the same mobile hardware employed by Apple in its highly-acclaimed retail stores.

To see LightSpeed at CES, visit Booth 3836 today, Wednesday or Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, and on Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.

LightSpeed will also be at next week’s Retail’s BIG Show, put on by the National Retail Federation (NRF), at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, 655 West 34th Street, New York, in booth 1735. The show is open on Monday, January 16, from 9 am to 6:30 pm and on Tuesday, January 17, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Macworld/iWorld takes place January 26 through 28 in the West Hall at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. LightSpeed will be exhibiting with LightSpeed Expert Resellers Create More in booth 946. Exhibit hours are: Thursday, January 26 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Friday, January 27 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday, January 28 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

LightSpeed extends its complete retail solution for the iGeneration

December 13, 2011 – Montreal, Canada – LightSpeed, makers of award-winning retail technology for the iGeneration, today launched LightSpeed for iPad, retail’s first truly interactive customer-experience platform. LightSpeed for iPad allows retailers to offer a next-level personalized selling experience combined with inventory scanning, wireless payments and the powerful retail workflows of LightSpeed, all on the world’s most popular tablet.

More than just POS, LightSpeed for iPad is an interactive sales tool that elevates the shopping experience. A novel and captivating Show & Tell feature allows sales reps to use the iPad to share expanded product details and up to five zoomed images on a stylish curtained backdrop.

“Show & Tell really changes the game for brick-and-mortar retailers because they can use this interactive sales tool to involve the customer in product selection and purchase, all within a sleek user interface on iPad,” said Dax Dasilva, founder and CEO of LightSpeed. “In this highly competitive age, customer experience is paramount. Show & Tell elevates the sales experience for both the retailer and the consumer.”

LightSpeed for iPad goes well beyond other tablet deployments that are just simple payment-taking devices for use in quick-service environments. “LightSpeed for iPad is an extension of a fully integrated, inventory-centric retail system that moves seamlessly from the front counter, to online, to wherever your customers are – using Mac, iPhone, iPod touch and, now, iPad,” said Dasilva. “Because of the exceptional experience it offers customers, LightSpeed gives consumers a reason to come into the store.”

LightSpeed for iPad gives retailers the freedom to create new invoices, scan barcodes, and add or create customer profiles on the fly on the showroom floor, at the front counter, or even beyond the store at an off-site sales event. Retailers can swipe or manually process credit card payments, accept signatures on-screen, and email or wirelessly print receipts using this latest addition to the family of LightSpeed retail tools for Mac, Mobile and eCommerce. Using LightSpeed for iPad, retailers can also activate or redeem gift cards, and perform inventory lookups to find out what’s in stock, what’s on reserve and what’s on order for any product.

“LightSpeed for iPad has really helped us out in a huge way and taken the store to a whole different level,” said a sales associate from Saturdays Surf NYC, an apparel retailer that caters to a lifestyle occupied with surfing, living and working in New York City. “It’s so much easier – we can help our customers anywhere in the store do invoices and process credit card payments. In just a few taps on the iPad, the customer’s out the door with everything they love and we know it’s been done right.”

LightSpeed for iPad rewrites the retail playbook by adding the flexibility to showcase and sell anywhere. LightSpeed products are multi-user, multi-store and extensible through a developer API so that software never limits retail aspirations.

The LightSpeed for iPad app is a free download on the iTunes App Store and requires a LightSpeed Server with one available user license per iPad client, available for purchase from LightSpeed Sales or a local LightSpeed reseller. LightSpeed for iPad requires an iPad or iPad 2 running iOS 5 or higher.

LightSpeed for iPad is compatible with the Socket Bluetooth barcode scanner, iDynamo credit card swipe and the Ingenico i6580 terminal for wirelessly processing credit and debit transactions.

Australian retailers can now process credit card payments through Tyro Payments

November 22, 2011 – Montreal, Canada – LightSpeed, makers of award-winning retail technology for the iGeneration, today announced the latest upgrades to its core platform with the release of LightSpeed 3.6. Making strides in the areas of speed, payments and privileges, 3.6 boosts overall performance for all LightSpeed users and changes the playing field for Australian retailers with the addition of credit card processing.

“To date, we’ve had tremendous success with our products in the Australian market,” said Dax Dasilva, LightSpeed founder and CEO. “Adding credit card processing through Tyro Payments opens up great possibilities for LightSpeed in that market, especially in terms of LightSpeed Mobile.”

Updates to the platform include the optimization of LightSpeed Server to increase operating speed throughout LightSpeed for Mac and Mobile. Those users who work in the Browser, Point of Sale on Mac or Mobile, or in stores with five or more simultaneous users will see particular improvement.

“The peak retail season is just getting under way, with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas all just around the corner,” said Dasilva. “LightSpeed has increased the speed of its platform so that retailers can easily handle higher transaction volumes during this busy time of year.”

The newest version also boasts centralized management and an improved payment-processing workflow for external payment terminals, the ability to choose the number of receipt copies per payment type, and better control over cash drawer opening. A redesigned Privileges window makes staff access restrictions to LightSpeed’s features easier to maintain.

To upgrade to 3.6, LightSpeed users will require a Support & Upgrades Subscription valid as of November 1, 2011, which can be renewed via a local LightSpeed reseller or by contacting LightSpeed Sales.

LightSpeed Mobile 1.6, a new version of the industry-leading mobile point-of-sale system, is compatible with LightSpeed 3.6 and is now available as a free download on iTunes. When paired with the 30-day LightSpeed demo, prospective users can test drive LightSpeed for both Mac and Mobile. LightSpeed Mobile requires an available user license on LightSpeed Server.

LightSpeed 3.6 sets the stage for a major forthcoming announcement by the company, one that will change the retail technology landscape. Users that upgrade to the latest version of the platform will be ready to turn their point of sale system into an interactive sales tool when the announcement comes early next month.

Biggest Canadian Cert Camp in company’s history to culminate in grand opening party at new 12,000 square foot HQ

MONTREAL, Sept. 22, 2011 – Today marks the start of the 11th reseller Certification Camp for LightSpeed, makers of award-winning retail technology for the Mac platform. This three-day-long event will be the largest Canadian Cert Camp in the company’s history and will be held at the Opus Hotel in Montreal.

The Cert Camp marks the unveiling of the company’s new headquarters, a 12,000-square-foot facility that exemplifies LightSpeed’s rapid revenue growth to date and future recruitment plans. On the final night of the Cert Camp, resellers will be joined by LightSpeed executives, employees, partners, customers and invited guests at the company’s expansive new headquarters, which have been completely renovated to echo the sleek esthetic of the company’s products, for the official grand opening party. A highlight of the renovation is a custom-designed two-wall mural by non-profit Montreal artist collective En Masse, whose work is receiving widespread international acclaim. Contributing artists will be on-site at the party for the public unveiling of the original work.

Sold through a network of more than 400 resellers in 26 countries around the world, LightSpeed makes point-of-sale, mobile point-of-sale and eCommerce platforms that offer big-box-store functionality at an affordable price. The market has responded to this suite of tools made for the iGeneration: the company has experienced an impressive 1,900% growth in the last five years and was recently named the fastest growing in Quebec, and number 24 in all of Canada by PROFIT Magazine.

Nothing better characterizes the company’s rapid growth over the past five years than the move to a new headquarters nearly three times the size of the space the company occupied under its previous name, Xsilva Systems. The space is a modern building in Montreal’s hip Little Italy neighborhood, typifying LightSpeed’s corporate culture and lending itself to the company’s ambitions to be seen as a destination employer. To accommodate the increased market demand for LightSpeed, the company is looking to add to its sales, support and development teams and encourages interested parties to visit the Careers section of LightSpeed’s website at http://www.lightspeedretail.com/careers/.

A record number of LightSpeed resellers from around the world will be converging on the new headquarters from September 22-24 for the largest Canadian CertCamp in the company’s history. Over 70 participating authorized resellers from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the Middle East and Australia, are taking part in instructional sessions and interactive workshops, and sharing best practices and selling techniques to provide global retail customers with the best possible service. Attendees will participate in sessions tailored to their experience level, with detailed explanations of LightSpeed’s many features, including purchasing, inventory control, accounting, networking, configuration, and multi-store and online selling, as well as LightSpeed Mobile, the company’s mobile-point-of-sale platform. Completion of the training and a post-camp exam will give resellers added certifications that will showcase their new levels of expertise.

The official grand opening of the new LightSpeed headquarters at 7049 St. Urbain, in Montreal, takes place on the evening of Saturday, September 24, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7pm, followed by cocktails at 8pm and dancing at 11pm.

Mac OS X Lion-ready, LightSpeed version 3.5 to drive creative POS customization while supporting new online retail options

A new open API that will drive the development of creative custom Point of Sale applications and a powerful eCommerce connector that supports the market-leading Magento platform, are the major new features of LightSpeed version 3.5 released today by Xsilva Systems. The company also announced it is rebranding as LightSpeed to capitalize on the worldwide reseller network, extensive user base and broad brand-name recognition it has established for its acclaimed retail technology since launching in 2005. Additionally, version 3.5 updates LightSpeed Mobile and is ready for the new Mac operating system, Lion.

The opening of the API makes LightSpeed a dynamic POS platform that caters to the store owner, developer or IT manager looking to build custom add-ons to the platform, while still remaining an easy-to-use, well-priced and richly functional out-of-the-box system that is attractive to small- to medium-sized retailers.

“With our new API and our powerful new eCommerce connector, LightSpeed is now open for business in a whole new way,” said Dax Dasilva, CEO and founder of LightSpeed. “The new API means that LightSpeed is now a highly-customizable option for innovative retailers who can truly make the platform their own as they grow their businesses. Meanwhile, our eCommerce connector opens up even more choice for retailers looking to grow online.”

Using the LightSpeed API, developers can build custom applications such as external loyalty programs, third party eCommerce plug-ins, sales dashboards and integration with back-end ERP systems. Based on web services, the LightSpeed API exploits the power of LightSpeed Server and offers developers access to the same framework used by the POS screen and LightSpeed Mobile, the company’s award-winning mobile POS system.

To support the developer community, LightSpeed is introducing the LightSpeed Developer Exchange, a membership program that enables developers to register and license their apps, communicate with fellow developers and receive tech support from the company’s development team. Membership in the LightSpeed Developer Exchange will cost $499 annually.

LightSpeed eCommerce introduces new web store choices

Also new in version 3.5 is LightSpeed eCommerce, a powerful new eCommerce package that uploads products and images to the online store of the retailer’s choice and downloads orders back into LightSpeed, offering an online retailing system that is fully integrated with existing invoicing and fulfillment workflows. LightSpeed eCommerce is priced at $899 and supports both LightSpeed Web Store, the platform’s turnkey online shopping cart that features easy setup and polished design, and the widely-adopted, highly customizable Magento platform that’s scalable for high-volume transactions with a powerful feature set and more than 3,500 add-ons. Support, hosting and SSL certificates for both Web Store and Magento are also available.

LightSpeed 3.5 also sees the release of LightSpeed Web Store 2.1 with several new features, including promotional codes, tier-based shipping and advanced search. Web Store is now an open-source project, allowing retailers and developers to contribute to the evolution of the product and create more complex customizations.

LightSpeed now PCI compliant and Mac OS X Lion-ready

In April 2011, the PCI Standards Council deemed LightSpeed version 3.3 to be PA-DSS Certified, the retail industry’s highest standards for data security and fraud protection. This certification enables retailers using the LightSpeed platform to assure their customers that their credit card data is protected and also helps protect the retailers’ business from costly and reputation-damaging security breaches. To help support its users in meeting PCI DSS requirements, the company has made available for download the LightSpeed PCI Implementation Guide at www.lightspeedretail.com/pci. Subsequent versions of LightSpeed will be re-certified after public release.

Additionally, LightSpeed 3.5 updates LightSpeed Mobile with new transaction editing features and is compatible with Apple’s highly anticipated Mac OS X Lion operating system to be released later this month.

Using new Linēa-pro 4 for iPhone, LightSpeed Mobile users can exploit mobile point of sale system while at trade shows, conferences, pop-up locations

April 13, 2011 – Montreal, Canada – Xsilva Systems, makers of unified retail Point of Sale tools sold under the LightSpeed brand, today announced upgrades to the hardware kit for its mobile Point of Sale platform, LightSpeed Mobile. Beginning today, LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kits will ship with Linēa-pro 4 for iPod touch 4th Generation or Linēa-pro 4 for iPhone 4 from Infinite Peripherals, Inc.

LightSpeed Mobile is the mobile retail extension to the LightSpeed Point of Sale system for Mac that transforms the way retailers sell to their customers. The application, when paired with a hardware kit that consists of a supported iOS mobile device and a sled that adds a 1D barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader, offers retailers an affordable alternative to traditional retail systems and long, impersonal line-ups at the register.

Retailers using LightSpeed Mobile can now use either the fourth-generation iPod touch or the iPhone 4 as their hardware of choice. The first generation of the Linēa-pro sled, the same hardware used in Apple’s retail stores, was compatible only with the second and third generations of the iPod touch. The Linēa-pro 4 compatibility with the iPhone 4 represents a whole new opportunity for users of LightSpeed Mobile – mobile Point of Sale beyond the store.

“Many retailers participate in trade shows or conferences, or operate temporary pop-up locations, where it can be challenging to manage inventory, process transactions and accurately document activity that takes place at these one-off events within the context of overall sales and inventory,” said Dax Dasilva, CEO and founder of Xsilva Systems. “With the iPhone 4 option, LightSpeed Mobile users can truly exploit the mobile aspect of the platform, completing transactions on the handheld unit from anywhere – even outside the store.”

“LightSpeed Mobile is a terrific example of the integration our hardware has with third-party software applications that manage inventory, complete sales transactions and other business processes,” said Jeffrey Scott, CEO of Infinite Peripherals. “We’re excited to see how LightSpeed Mobile users respond to the ability to take their point of sale system on the road.”

Xsilva continues to build on the capabilities of its award-winning mobile point of sale platform, offering compelling features at a fraction of the cost that big box stores are spending on custom development. Earlier this month, at its recent Certification Camp in San Francisco, the company announced LightSpeed Mobile 1.4, which added a mobile printing capability. The recent addition of a unique hand-off feature makes LightSpeed the most unified retail Point of Sale experience across the desktop and mobile environments. While credit-card transactions can be fully completed on the mobile device, cash, check and other transactions started anywhere in the store on a mobile device can be seamlessly transferred to a desktop POS station equipped with a cash drawer for completion.

Version 1.4 of LightSpeed Mobile is available for $4.99 from the iTunes App Store and requires LightSpeed Server.

Montreal, Canada –January 25, 2011– Fresh from demonstrating the latest versions of the desktop and mobile components of its LightSpeed Point of Sale (POS) system at the National Retail Federation (NRF) and International Consumer Electronics Shows (CES), Xsilva Systems today announced the general availability of LightSpeed 3.4 and LightSpeed Mobile 1.3.

The latest release features a POS user interface that tightly integrates with LightSpeed Mobile, which for the first time ever with a mobile POS application, allows transactions initiated on a mobile unit to be paid instantly by credit card or completed at a Mac station equipped with a cash drawer, receipt printer or external payment processing hardware.

“Mobile retail was the major theme at NRF this year, and Xsilva was at the epicenter of this retail revolution with our newest offering, LightSpeed Mobile,” said Dax Dasilva, CEO and founder of Xsilva. And while there were several companies offering integration of mobile apps with legacy enterprise systems, Xsilva was unique in its offering of a unified retail POS experience, with consistent, best-in-class user interfaces running on both the mobile and desktop POS.

“Retailers, integrators, media and analysts at both NRF and CES marveled at the unified retail POS experience offered by the platform, especially the ‘hand-off’ feature that enables retailers to start a transaction on a mobile POS and then complete it on the desktop,” said Dasilva.

On the retail floor, employees using an iPod touch or iPhone running the LightSpeed Mobile application scan or search the product(s); add, edit or set the customer; and then hand off the sale to a Mac desktop running the LightSpeed POS. This functionality allows a seamless workflow for those customers who want to pay by a method other than credit card, namely cash, check or alternate payment method that requires a Mac-connected cash drawer or external terminal.

The user of the desktop POS will see a bubble appear on the left sidebar of the screen, an orange LightSpeed Mobile icon that can be clicked to continue the transaction. This feature illustrates the unified retail POS experience offered by LightSpeed across mobile and the desktop, in stark contrast to other mobile POS offerings that are grafted onto legacy PC-based systems.

Also new in LightSpeed 3.4, enhanced multi-store inventory transfers, speed optimizations and other improvements.

LightSpeed Mobile 1.3, which requires LightSpeed 3.4, includes the highly requested feature of being able to add and edit customers on the handheld device.

Starting in January, international customers in five countries – the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the Dominican Republic – join the United States and Canada in being able to purchase LightSpeed Mobile on iTunes.

Surveys and studies released in late 2010 and early 2011 indicate that retailers large and small are planning to mobilize their POS systems this year, with big-box retailers spending millions on custom development of mobile POS applications and SMBs seeking affordable, easy to use, off-the-shelf systems that enhance customer experience and optimize their sales processes. LightSpeed Mobile meets that market need.
