Last night I went out to Snowy Range in Wyoming in search of dark skies for the Perseid meteor shower. I wanted something special for the foreground and I knew the Snowies faced in the perfect direction to get this shot. I started shooting at 10pm and didn't stop until 5 am, I had to change my battery every 2 hours which made for a long night. The moon rose around 1am to light up the mountain range.

This is a composite of 23 images, 22 for the meteors/stars and 1 taken at sunrise for the foreground which was lightly blended in. I also corrected the orientation of the meteors to account for the rotation of the earth (this took forever!)

I had a great night which was made even better because I spent it with my newly adopted dog Emmie, she was a trooper!

Well, why not?

Guys at LFL: I'm sorry, I borrowed your poster for this a bit. I hope you don't mind. :D

I had some free time and I decided to make an all-stormtrooper illustration based on the classic Star Wars poster. I just love the original.

My most popular image to date.

The shot is featured in the August 2011 issue of National Geographic Magazine in their 'Visions of Earth' seciton.

This shot has also appeared in major newspapers and websites all over the globe as well as on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. Tech Info: This was taken Wednesday night during a major electrical storm using a tripod mounted Nikon D300s with a 60mm f2.8 Nikon lens and a remote shutter release. The exposure was 5 seconds at F10. The RAW file was converted to a DNG file and processed in Photoshop CS3. There was no PS manipulation except for some Curve adjustments and cropping the image square. It took 82 shots before I captured this one. Thanks to all of you who so kindly commented on this shot.
Star Wars model kits were not available in Finland back when they first came out in 1977 or 1978. It was just devastating because I knew quite well that they existed. I was dying to have at least one of them, any one would have been great. Somehow, to my own surprise, using all my negotiating skills, I managed to persuade my parents to buy a kit for me all the way from Sweden.

This is the one, the crown jewel, the MPC model kit I got after a looooong wait in 1980. I assembled it, painted it white, added the decals and carefully, carefully weathered it with matchsticks. Yes, matchsticks! I reasoned that since the fighters in the movie were charred by enemy fire, atmospheric friction and whatnot, I could achieve similar effect by actually burning the model with fire.

I was thirteen.

Miraculously, I did not melt the plastic, just stained it with soot as planned. Boy, did this thing look good!

The model has spent two decades in a box, I dug it out a couple of years ago with plans to rebuild it. That's not going to happen, however, the X-Wing is perfect as it is.

Avanaut posted a photo:

I shoot many frames because I like surprises. This is the same deal I did before with snow and a tauntaun, only this time I had to remove the support rod with Photoshop.

I should have shot more frames. The frames in the middle and middle top are the only two frames in which the speeder bike is nicely engulfed in the flying sand, I liked them a lot and even removed the support before realizing that I couldn't get the sand to look like sand. Well, not the way I wanted.

I like the one on the top left corner, too. It's a misfire but the flying sand cloud looks cool.

The frame I eventually uploaded had a good sensation of speed and a nicely graduated sky.

(Explored)

Thanks everyone for all the kind words!! More of my timelapses at beepshow.com or follow on twitter twitter.com/boltron for the latest.

1,572 photos shot over seven hours on an island 68 miles South of Everglades City in Florida with a 5D mk2 and a cheap knock-off time lapse controller that works great. The beach is called Middle Cape Sable, and is the southernmost point of the continental US. Camped there with six of my awesome family members. The music, suggested by cousin Kristen, is Clelia Iruzun: Ernesto Lecuona- Always in my Heart.

A shot of a slightly tuned piece of Lego set 7623. I added a stand for the Idol and some plants. I must say it is a very nice set, and has been played with a lot.
