The jazz fever is still there, that's why I can't help myself to write about it.

Move on to the second part of the the Borneo Jazz post (continuation from the Part 1 post), even though the event has ended last Saturday but still my job hasn't finished yet. Basically, the event only held for three days, as the first day was only the opening night just for the invited guests while another two days for the show, and as Sarawak Blogger's representative all of us has managed to covered up all three days of event.

On the second day of the show, it has been warmed up the marching band from Chung Hwa Miri Marching Band. We have been signed up to do the cover up for their performances and indeed they has made a very lovely evening. I didn't know that the marching band would be that much fun to watch because like what Eileen (@LadyBirdMollyz) has tweeted during the performance:

"Uhh they're wavin and dancin too,I likedd..thot marching band performances are static,boyy I was wrong ;p #borneojazz"

If there's a LIKE button on twitter, I would like to hit the button on Eileen's tweet like +9999∞ times. I also found a video on their performance which has been uploaded by Sarawak Tourism and you also can browse some other performances during the Borneo Jazz in their Sarawak Tourism channels on YouTube.

Same as the night before, the performance also has been performed by four different performers. The first performer of the night was the Tropic Green from Singapore. Among all the musicians from Tropic Green, the one that I remember the most was Hiro, the bassist. Well, it's a normal for a woman to be attracted with a very nice looking (especially the goatee) guy playing a bass guitar and became the center of attention among all girls during the night. Like seriously, my camera can't stop snapping pictures of him, because it is not easy for me to get attracted with musicians especially when it comes to the guitarist or bassist. I love instruments like piano or cello, (even though I didn't know how to play both) and I love pianist the most, such as Ludwig Van Beethoven, Maksim, Art Tatum, Jon Schmidt (my favorite) etc.

Hiro was using his spec, makes me hard to see his face, then Abg Joe tweeted to me that

Oh, that statement makes me 'patah seribu' if it is real, but surprisingly, he's not juling except that he's too sepet and makes me like him so much! XD

Then followed by the second performance by Tangora (France). She was a very charming and dazzling lady as she sang wondrously that will makes your heart moved with her music. Some of the audiences also dancing energetically on the floor while listening to her songs.

Before the performance, Abg Joe (@AdjayMAGIC) and I were hanging out at the Media Centre room for charging up our phones, and suddenly he wanted to make a mini tweetup among Mirians who were currently following the Borneo Jazz hash-tag on twitter (#BorneoJazz). Then, we decided to gather up after the Tangora's show and yes, we did it!

Other than that, I also met my ex-coursemate from UNIMAS, Salihin (@SalihinSaat) at the show, it was like a mini reunion for us as well. He fly from Kuching to Miri on that evening just to celebrate Mother's Day and Borneo Jazz (before that he always whining on twitter for not able to come to the show..hahaha) and he came with his so called 'Jason Mraz' look (LOL!. JK!). So, there are eight of us who have met during the mini tweetup:

Back to the third performance, was the Schalk Joubert's 3 Continents Sextet. Yes, they performed again after the opening night. They never failed me with their performance because the ladies who played the brass instruments so ~~damn~~ good as I was indulging with their music very much.

Afterwards was the Koh Mr Saxman and Takashi Band from Thailand. They also bring a special guest, Betty and she's singing for the band. Honestly, I didn't saw much during their performance because my stomach has started to growling and it keeps telling me to go for the supper (as it has suffer too much before the performance). Then, we came back for the final or closing performance by all of them (except some of the band from the first show).

The show ended around 1 am and all of us able to get a picture together. Overall, it was very exciting and a wonderful experiences for me to join this event. It was just a luck for me to won the media pass from Sarawak Blogger and also Sarawak Tourism Board, a huge thank you for both and I hope that more interesting event will come after this.

Final performance

Not forgotten, thanks to Takao Fujioka (@jazgra) for giving me a Japanese one yen coin. After that night, I'm so regret because I didn't ever think to have the performers autograph, but it's okay because...

Borneo Jazz 2012 Part 1

Sorry for the delayed post. The stage show for the Borneo Jazz concert has started on Friday night (11 May 2012), but before that all of us went to some refreshment at Meritz Hotel Miri for media cocktail reception. We gathered at the Parkcity Everly hotel lobby along with all the media's.

As we arrived, I was flabbergasted seeing the newly built hotel for the first time. Most importantly is, the food. For the past two months, I was living at the Cherating Resort, compared to the both places, the food is totally twice much better at Meritz (like seriously!). Maybe it is because the refreshment took place at the Sky Garden, where you can see the Grand Oil Lady and Miri city view from the top. It's awesome and breathtaking (if you are scared of height, better don't look down).

I was born and living in Miri for almost 23 years and it was the first time for me also to meet Miri City Mayor, Mr Lawrence Lai. It was a pleasure and an honor for me to met him face to face.

Press conference

Then around 6.30 pm all of us ready to leave to Parkcity for another Press Conference with the Honorable Minister of Housing and Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Amar Abang Hj, Abdul Rahman Zohari B. Tun Abg Haji Openg, at 7.30 pm. Also at the same time F.V.E Project was already on the stage as they are the first performer of the night. As soon the press conference ended (and also when my phone was fully charged), I'm rushing to the pavilion as I read Raihanah (@reyanna13) tweeted "Rihanna Please don't stop the music , Jazz mix everybody!". (..yeah, i guess she's having her moment at that time while the boys are playing her song :P)

F.V.E and sight-seeing time

F.Y.I, the F.V.E Project is actually a band from Malaysia, all of them are young musicians though. F.V.E is stands for Funky Virus Experimental and it is totally funky, which is suits with their ages and the songs as well. Consists of five team members, Timoth, Dean, Feri, Omar and Jeffny. They also covered up one of Nirvana song (which I've missed out!) and also so called children's sunday school song "this old man". Other than that, they also very friendly where after the performance, Reyanna and some of us have some a very nice chit chat and took some pictures together with them.

Nita Aartsen performance

Then, followed by the next performance by Nita Aartsen, a very talented pianist fly from Indonesia. The most catchy part about her performance was not just about the way she played the piano, it's the man who played the guitar or the bass guitar. The first thing that comes to my mind was "Is he a monk?!" it is because of the way he dressed and he's bald (I never seen a real monk play a guitar before, kekekek!), and I was amazingly surprised when he started to humming. I was speechless because his voice are so melodious and yeah they totally brought the Indonesian jazz music on that night.

(on a second thought, he also resemble a man who acting in Kung Fu Hustle movie, The Beast!!! Told ya!)

SLIXS

Jazz music doesn't mean need to be consists with wind instruments such as trombone, saxophone etc, for me it depends on your innovative to delivered the jazz songs. SLIXS from Germany, totally seized the night with their own version of acapella. Just by using mouth and voices they have created such a great piece of Jazz music. No wonder they are nominated as the best and most charming vocal ensembles (All hail to SLIXS!)

Lastly, New Cool Collective from Netherlands has wrap up the night smoothly. They are looking smart on their suits like Beatles and One Direction (muahaha!, just kidding!). Looking smart and has 'clean cut' appearance while performing also can catch a woman attention, it's a credit though. In the meantime, the four of us took some pictures (shiny faces are due to the camera or lightning effect. LOL) and supper together around 12 am.

My first moment with Borneo Jazz 2012

This morning I've received a call from Eileen, that moment I was in 'mamai' state and she ask me whether I'm able to come this evening to media briefing for Borneo Jazz 2012. Without knowing anything about it, I am so excited to come since I never have been to this event. A huge thanks to Sarawak Blogger and Sarawak Tourism Board for the free passes to Borneo Jazz 2012.

Media Briefing

During the media briefing, I've met a lot of peoples, experts, foreigners, journalists etc, and I also met Gustino (finally!), Eileen, Abang Daizrulizam, Reyhanna, not forgotten two handsome Japanase guys, Ryuta Suzuki and Takao Fujiuka.

Tonight was basically just an opening night for the event, as the event started with the cultural group performance (sape and Sarawak traditional dance - I was stunt to see those girls dancing so gracefully!). While they performed, all of us are enjoying our dinner and tweeting (it's normal for bloggers who have smartphone on their hands, haha) until the battery drained, haha.

Later, an opening performance by Jazz musicians, Schalk Joubert and the Three Continents Sextet. I saw this one girl who played a saxophone and I was thinking "I bet her lung is very long" because it is not easy to play that kind of instruments and also the trombone as well. In this event, you can meet a lot of peoples from different part of the world and playing different kinds of instruments though, besides Rainforest World Music Festival (will be on my list!).

The Artistic Director, Jun Lin Yeoh saying that this event "it is not just a one night gig performance". Yes, it's quite true because through this kind of event, besides performing Jazz music it is also a medium for Sarawak to expand more as a resort city. Perhaps, this kind of event will be a platform to attract a lot of peoples/foreigners to come. There is no other places like Sarawak, because of its uniqueness and cultures. Other than that, music is also one of the ways to achieve a kind of shorthand to understand because there is no boundary lines. As Billy Joel once said:

"It is an explosive expression of humanity. It is something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we are from because everybody love music".

Last but not least, for those who is in Miri, please do come to this huge event held at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri, 11- 12 May 2012, from 6 pm till midnight. As for the ticket prices do check it out here at Borneo Jazz page.

A moment to remember, its my December

My first post in 2012, what I aim for this year doesn't matter because more importantly my missions n visions in life. And yes we all do have lots ups and downs, smiles and frowns. So, sober up! Just keep your head up and look around you from time to time. In general life has been good to me. Never gets bored with your life because while you are still living in this temporary world, appreciate each moment of your life. Nevertheless, every seconds counts. No matter what you do, please be responsible with your own life, even sometimes you feel sucks, others felt the same way too. Perhaps their life's are much more worst than you.

People gets matured, but we didn't know how and when but for me, I learned. I met. I spoke. I saw. I felt. I heard. I teach my own life, i didn't teach yours or others. Numbers doesn't count whether you matured or not.

Strictly said, UNIMAS stands for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak not Universiti Malaysia Sabah and it is located in Sarawak. Customer service? Failed!

For those who are not knowing about the customer service, I think you should Goggle it (Snap it!). Okay, I admit in these few days I'm totally so not in the mood to socialize with anyone or everyone because customers always made my days so 'good'. Ever since I'm working, I've dealing so many things about customers, works and you know what, I hate this one particular terms that make it so cliche:

"Customer always right"

and for the record, they are NOT ALWAYS RIGHT! For me it's all about 'who's teaching who manners'. Some peoples want to be treated as they are living like Royal Families, give me a break. I've seen and met those peoples and I feel like I want to cut off their throats and get the hell out of here.

Other situations like, while you're shopping at the mall or supermarket then you take an item from the shelf but actually you didn't buy it, you just simply place the item anywhere and everywhere you like. Oh my God, are you dumb or lazy enough to put back things at the original place? I know it's not your job since you're customer but please try to make people life easier!

I know I shouldn't say this but clearly some customer are dumb enough because they didn't know how to read the label, especially on the price tag. For example, Loreal shampoo price labelled RM 1.30 (so cheap huh!), which is not the right price because of one customer stupidly put things at the wrong place. This happens all the time when you not reading the item description on the price tag and you saying that "I thought the price is different". If you didn't know how does it look like, see the picture below

FYI, I can't deal with those type of customers, like seriously, if I pissed off, I'm sure they will feel the same. As the conclusion for my madness, some customers are just plain wrong. Even though you try to deal with complaints etc you can't please people all the time. Am I right?

p/s: I bought this fresh new hot stuff for RM 1.88. Seriously! while stock last at any Guardian Pharmacy. Today will be the last day I'm working here. sobs

Siapa ada tengok drama korea ni please put yo hands up!

From the beginning till now tak pernah miss tengok drama ni sebab I like both of the actress and actor.
FYI, mereka ni pernah acting together on You're Beautiful. The drama is slightly the same as Dream High sebab both ada berkaitan dengan music, but the different thing was on the combination of the traditional music with modern music. Unfortunately drama ni baru habis on Friday. Sob3. Overall I gave 10 out of 10!

Yong Hwa aka Lee Shin was the main actor. Cold and very macho type of man that would serenade you. Err. Seriously?

Which zodiac are you?

If you literally translate "Gong Xi Fa Chai", it would mean "wishing you enlarge your wealth."

Gong Xi: means wishing/blessing
Fa: means enlarge(ment)
Chai: means wealth

So a literal translation is that you wish someone will become very rich, but the phrase is generally used as Happy New Year.

I feel glad that I'm able to come back to my hometown and watching the fireworks through my windows. As usual most of all the Chinese will started to cracking up with the fireworks around 9 or 10 until midnight. Some say they were just wasting or burning their money for buying those stuffs, but actually I didn't agree with it because it was their customs while celebrating CNY. Its been said that fireworks helps to threw away all the bad lucks. Besides, before the festive they should put behind them all things of the past. Clean the houses, pay off debts, purchase new clothes, paint their doors and window panes, and even get new haircuts. These activities symbolize new life and new beginnings.

Homes are decorated with flowers and paper decorations stating wishes of prosperity, good luck, happiness, good fortune, wealth, and longevity for the coming year. Decorations of the incoming zodiac animal are also displayed. Red and gold are very popular colors to decorate with. Red represents power happiness, vitality (and scares away beasts). Gold represents wealth and good fortune.

Among any other celebrations, I love CNY more (other than Raya Aidilfitri) because the spirits are different from any other celebrations. Is it because most of all the communities in Sarawak are Chinese? I think so?

Last but not least, Happy Lunar New Year to all Chinese all over the world!!!!!!Gong Xi Fa Chai!!!!!
