“It’s Showtime” vs "Eat Bulaga!" starting February 6!

After days of speculations that "Showtime" will be reformatted and go head to head with the Philippines Longest Running Noontime Show "Eat Bulaga!", ABS-CBN finally made it official, "It's Showtime" vs. "Eat Bulaga!".

"It's Showtime" formerly "Showtime" will be moved to the 12noon time slot to collide with "Eat Bulaga!" which is seen Monday to Saturday on GMA-7. "It's Showtime" will add new segments to make it look more different than usual when it was still known as "Showtime".

Regarding this developments, the Kapamilya Network released it's official statement:

After two years of being a morning kapamilya favorite, “It’s Showtime” will be ABS-CBN’s newest noontime program effective Monday, February 6, 2012.

The new show will be hosted by Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Billy Crawford, Karylle, ‘Kuya’ Kim Atienza, Teddy Corpuz, Jugs Jugueta and Vice Ganda, whose camaraderie, spontaneity, talents, and shared sense of humor have brought joy to kapamilyas. Son beginning the Monday, February 6, 2012, "It's Showtime" will make it's grand premiere to replace Kapamilya's current noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey" which will have it's farewell episode on February 4, 2012.

ABS-CBN is really looking to rekindle the noontime wars which remained quite for quite sometime after Willie Revillame's "Wowowee" was axed. The shows that took over such as "Pilipinas Win na Win" and "Happy Yipee Yehey" were certainly no match for "Eat Bulaga!", those show literally bowed down to the kings of noontime Tito, Vic, and Joey.

The question is, how will the "Eat Bulaga!" Dabarkads responds to this new challenge laid down by the Kapamilya Network? Have ABS-CBN finally found the right show to out seat the longest running noontime show which took over the noontime slot for three decades? We have to stay tune to find out.

Just one suggestion, why didn't the Kapamilya Network made the title "Eat's Showtime" rather than "It's Showtime"? I think that looks more catchy and creative. The producers of "Eat Bulaga!" could have chose the title "It Bulaga!" but since it's shown on noon time which is lunch time, they turned it into "Eat Bulaga!". But if the Kapamilya Network does that, it will look like that they copied "Eat Bulaga!" once again.

World Wrestling Fan Xperience 2012 – Smart Araneta Coliseum

Former WWE Superstars are coming to Manila on February 4, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the World Wrestling Fan Xperience Champions Tour 2012.

Former WWE Superstars including Carlito, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, Chris Masters, Rhino, Gene Snitski, Luke Gallows, former WWE Divas Jillian Hall and Melina and many more are coming to the Philippines to perform and showcase their wrestling talents.

Just a little clarifications, I've met some people who are confused about this World Wrestling Fan Xperience (WWFX) and thinks that this is a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) live tour since the performers were all former WWE Superstars and Champions as mentioned in the promos. Some are looking for big WWE Superstars like John Cena, Randy Orton and CM Punk.

Just to make it clear, WWFX is an independent Wrestling Promotion which consists of former WWE Superstars, the event is not a part of any WWE Live Events and these superstars were released from their WWE contract and are no longer connected with the World Wrestling Entertainment. These guys were released from the WWE after failing to meet some requirements particularly the wellness policy.

ABS-CBN’s Showtime ends, to go head to head with Eat Bulaga?

I have just another update about the future of ABS-CBN's noontime slot. Earlier today, ABS-CBN's game variety show "Showtime" aired it's thank you/farewell episode. Is this a sign that it will replace "Happy Yipee Yehey" and will go head to head against the Philippines longest running and undisputed #1 noontime show "Eat Bulaga!"
According to some sources, "Showtime" will be reformatted and will added with new segments to make it slightly different from it's original format and make it suitable to compete with "Eat Bulaga!". Sources added that the working title of the new "Showtime" are either "It's More Fun in Showtime" or "It's Showtime". And Eugene Domingo is rumored to be a part of the new show.

"Happy Yipee Yehey" to Air It's Final Episode on February 4, 2012 and Will Be Replaced By "Palibhasa Tanghali"?

It was posted in this blog the ABS-CBN's noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey" will be cancelled and that it will be replaced by "Showtime". But according to the lates developments, "Happy Yipee Yehey" will be replaced with a new noontime show titled "Palibhasa Tanghali" which will be hosted by Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez and John Estrada.

"Happy Yipee Yehey" premiered in February 12 last year and will air it's final episode on February 4, 2012, that is less than a year.

If the rumors about a new noontime show "Palibhasa Tanghali" is true, will this be the show that will finally topple the Philippines' longest noontime show "Eat Bulaga!" I don't think so. It will take more than the trio of Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez, and John Estrada to take out the triumvirate of Tito, Vic, and Joey who has been giving happiness and inspiration to the Filipinos for three decades now.

"Eat Bulaga!" has been there after 3 people powers, and 6 presidents and it is not just a TV show but a way of life. And besides, the title "Palibhasa Tanghali" is derived from ABS-CBN's hitt 90s sitcom "Palibhasa Lalake" which was also top-billed by Richard, Joey and John. The Kapamilya Network will just recycling the defunct sitcom but in a different format and a little bit of twists in the title. And lastly, why is ABS-CBN keeps on experimenting on different trios to match the staying powers of TVJ? APO, John, Randy, and Willie, Rey Valera, Nonoy Zuniga and Rico J. Puno, these are the trios that tried to match TVJ but all of them failed. The Kapamilya Network creative crew should try something different just like when that of "Wowowee" which was hosted by the controversial Willie Revillame, "Eat Bulaga!" had a hard time getting rid of that show.

TV5 Introduces the New Generation of Valiente

TV5 conducted a press conference for the upcoming premiere of the "Valiente" remake starring TV5's drama prince JC De Vera and Oyo Boy Sotto. The press conference was held last January 19, 2012.

Here is TV5's press release statement for "Valiente" which by the way will premiere this coming February 2012:

Richard Gutierrez Signs With VIVA Entertainment

Pumirma ng kontrata sa VIVA Entertainment ang aktor na si Richard Gutierrez. Ang kontrata ay para sa management ng mga endorsement deals, which means na ang VIVA na pinamumunuan ni Boss Vic del Rosario ang hahawak sa mga endorsement deals ni Richard Gutierrez. Maliban kay Richard, pumirma din para ng kontrata sa VIVA ang mga kapatid niyang si Raymond at Ruffa Gutierrez.

Kaugnay ng latest development na ito, ihinayag ng VIVA Boss na si Vic del Rosario na may mga pagkakataon na ipapareha si Richard Gutierrez sa ilang mga talents ng VIVA at isa sa nagunguna sa listahan ay ang Pop Princess na si Sarah Geronimo.

Tungkol sa mga upcoming endeavours ni Richard sa GMA-7 na marami rin ang curious dahil nalalapit na ang pagtatapos ng Survivor Philippines kung saan host si Richard, nakipag-meeting na diumano ang aktor sa creative team ng Kapuso Network kaugnay sa susunod niyang project sa GMA-7. action-drama raw ang tema ng nasabing project ng Kapuso Network para kay Richard.

Kung ano man ang project na iyon para kay Richard, sana hindi na Fantaserye of Superhero ang tema dahil tila nasawa na ang mga televiewers na makita si Richard na naka-costume, lumilipad at may kakaibang kapangyarihan. Subukan niya naman gumawa ng soap opera kung saan normal siyang tao na haharap sa mga sitwasyon na hinaharap ng isang ordinaryong tao sa pang-araw araw na buhay. Nakapanood ako kagabi ng MYX Hitchart at guest doon si Gloc 9 at ang protege niya na si Dennis. Yes si Dennis at ang mentor niyang si Gloc 9 sa reality talent search na Protege ng GMA-7.

Nasa No.8 kasi ng MYX Pinoy Countdown ang collaboration single nila na "Hari ng Tondo" na theme song ng MMFF 2011 Entry na "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story". At ang naturang single ay nasa No.18 naman sa MYX Hitchart.

Nakakatuwa lang dahil si Dennis ay produkto ng reality talent search ng Kapuso Network at ang MYX naman ay sister station ng Kapamilya Network pero game na game na in-interview siya ni VJ Bianca at naalala ko pa yung tanong ni VJ Bianca kay Dennis na "anong feeling mo na sa lahat ng ka-batchmate mo ay ikaw ang pinakaunang nagkaroon ng music video?"(she is talking about GMA-7's reality show Protege) game rin naman yung sinagot ni Dennis.

Kunsabagay wala namang kaso kung lumabas si Dennis sa MYX na sister station ng ABS-CBN dahil music channel naman iyon. Music should unite the world, regardless kung saang Network napanood ang reality show na sinalihan mo at kung saang Network ka naka-kontrata. Try naman nila sa susunod na makapag promote din ng album ang mga Kapuso Recording Stars sa "ASAP" at ang mga Kapamilya Recording Stars naman sa "Party Pilipinas". OK yun, that is kung may album ang mga artists ng GMA Records o kung nage-exist pa nga ba ang recording outlet ng GMA.

Pumirma na ng kontrata sa ABS-CBN ang home grown Kapuso talent na si Iza Calzado, matapos magsimula at manatili ng ilang taon sa GMA-7. Ito na ang katotohanan dun sa mga haka haka noon na lilipat ng istasyon ang naturang young actress.

Kung napansin ninyo, pagkatapos ng "I Heart You Pare" kung saan pinalitan ni Iza si Regine Velasquez-Alcasid bilang katambal ni Dingdong Dantes at ng "Andres De Saya" na pinagtambalan nila ni Cesar Montano, wala ng sumunod na regular show si Iza. Puro guestings, hosting jobs, interviews at number sa "Party Pilipinas lang ang ginagawa ni Iza. Yun ay dahil may alinlangan ang Kapuso Network na bigyan siya ng regular show dahil ayaw mag-renew ng kontrata ni Iza sa Kapuso Network at may bulung-bulungan nga na aalis na siya. Takot ang GMA-7 na bigyan siya ng show at bigla silang layasan at bitinin sa ere.

Kasunod ng paglipat ni Iza Calzado sa Kapamilya Network, may mga ulat din na susunod sa kanya doon ang isa pang Kapuso home grown talent na si Carla Abellana. Wala rin kasing offer na bagong project sa kanya ang GMA Network.

Nag-aalisan na ang mga talents ng Kapuso Network, either wala talagang magandang plano ang GMA para sa kanila o sila mismo ang ayaw sa Kapuso. Sa totoo lang kasi, may favoritism sa GMA-7, yung mga artista lang na malakas sa mga Executives ang bini-build up, yung mga madalas magsabi ng "I would like to thank Mr. Filipe Gozon and Ms. Wilma Galvante" sa birthday celebration nila sa "Party Pilipinas", sabihin niyong mali ako.

"MUNTING HEREDERA" ENDS INCREDIBLE NINE-MONTH LONG JOURNEY

After months of dominating on primetime, GMA-7’s "Munting Heredera" concludes its successful nine-month journey with a nerve-racking finale week from January 30 to February 3.

Intended to run for only 13 weeks, the Kapuso family drama received several extensions after consistently topping ratings charts. The show garnered its highest audience share last August 30, 2011 with an overwhelming 49.5 points among Mega Manila households according to AGB Nielsen (based on May 9, 2011 to January 17, 2012 Mega Manila households data). To this day, "Munting Heredera" remains at the top of its game as it continues to register high ratings relative to its competition.

Likewise the show made its presence felt on the internet as netizens avidly followed and discussed the many twists and turns in the story.

From the show’s basic plot, which tells of a grandmother searching for her missing heiress, the writers of "Munting Heredera" headed by Agnes Gagelonia-Uligan and its award-winning director, Maryo J. delos Reyes were able to make the story even more engaging by introducing new characters and sub-stories.

While the story focused on the search for the rightful heiress to the Montereals’ riches, "Munting Heredera" also shed light on other issues and revelations involving other players in the story. Truly, every character made an impact and contributed to the overwhelming success of what is arguably one of GMA’s most successful and unforgettable dramas.

Through out every episode, Ms. Gloria Romero, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Camille Prats, Luz Valdez, Gabby Eigenmann (whose performance in MH as Desmond earned him a Best Supporting Actor trophy in the Golden Screen Awards), Leandro Baldemor, Ynez Veneracion, Neil Ryan Sese, Krystal Reyes and Roderick Paulate gave exceptional performances in their portrayal of different familial issues.

"Walang Hanggan" Pilot Bested "Legacy" in Mega Manila

Two new shows from ABS-CBN and GMA-7 premiered last Monday, "Walang Hanggan" and "Legacy" respectively. Of course, the loyalists of two the two networks wants to find out which pilot episode bested the other. So far, ABS-CBN's "Walang Hanggan" was triumphant over GMA-7's "Legacy". This is according to AGB Nielsen's Mega Manila overnight ratings for January 13-16, 2012. The Kapamilya Network recovered after being out-edged finale of Kapuso Network's "Amaya" last Friday.

Marian Rivera and Angel Locsin Together in a Movie?

Two of the brightest stars from rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 will make a movie under Regal Films. Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera will be doing a movie together.

Rumours have spread already regarding the team of the two hottest female stars in the country today.

There were some speculations that this could not happen because of complications from their exclusive contracts with their mother stations.

The 26-year-old Angel Locsin is a contract star of ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema while the 27-year-old Marian Rivera is under contract with GMA Films of the Kapuso Network.

Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera together on the big screen, hmmm, it's quite interesting. Both this actresses are being compared and considered as rivals and you gotta be thinking how their fans are gonna react when they see the two rival stars in one movie. Of course there will be slug fest on who the better actress is.

If this dream project happens, it will be like those days when rivals Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor collaborated in one movie. Marian and Angel are the Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor of this generation.

David Archuleta is now a Kapatid Star!

American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta is set to arrive in Manila on January 12, 2012 to shoot a primetime drama series on TV5.

David Archuleta will be working with Kapatid stars Jasmin Curtis and Eula Caballero in the said drama series.

TV5 is doing another nig move to boost it's viewership and net profit. The network put out alot of money to acquire huge stars like Willie Revillame, Maricel Soriano, Sharon Cuneta, Dolphy etc. to make a stiff competition against GMA-7 and ABS-CBN. But this time the've decided to get the help of an international singer.

But I doubt if David Archuleta would help boost the ratings of TV5. Yes he is an American Idol alum captured the heart of the Filipinos but that was 3 years ago, even in America he is just considered as a local celebrity nowadays. And even the popularity of American Idol where he came from is now declining. So I don't think that he is a threat to both the Kapuso and the Kapamilya Network. I think acquiring David Archuleta is a gamble for the Kapatid Network.

The Kapatid Network is indeed that desperate to make some boost this 2012. Mr. MVP is willing to throw a lot of money just to make it on top. Or maybe they did not spend a lot to acquire David Archuleta on TV5's roster because he is not a big thing anymore.

But I'm still a fan of David, I love his songs specially that "A Little too not Over You". I just don't like the idea of importing him to do a drama series specially on TV5.

Sen. Bong Revilla is Happy with the Results of "Ang Panday 2"

“Ang Panday 2” may not have emerged as the ultimate top grosser at the 2011 MMFF, but that’s no reason for lead actor Sen. Bong Revilla not to be grateful for its second place finish with gross earnings of P51,527,616 in the festival’s first three days.

Revilla said he’s quite happy with his movie’s performance.

“Ang Panday 2” made 29 million pesos on its opening, Dec. 25.

In a statement released by GMA Films and Imus Productions, the actor-politician said: “Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa mga nanood ng ipinagmamalaki naming pelikula na talagang pinaghirapan at pinaglaanan ng panahon. Nakakataba ng puso na nakapagpasaya kami ng mga tao at nakapagbigay ng ngiti sa mga bata.”

Revilla has moved on and is now active in extending help to the flood victims in Mindanao. In fact, he returned to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities on Dec. 29 to help the victims furthermore.

GMA-7's "Spooky Nights", Spooky for the first Time.

Last night, I was able to catch up with GMA-7's presentation of "Spooky Night". And for the first time I was impressed, and it's safe to say that for the first time it was spooky.

The particular "Spooky Nights" episode was titled "Sapi" which featured Geoff Eigenmann and Heart Evangelista which by the way will make a comeback as love teams in an upcoming Kapuso soap opera "Legacy". I wasn't able to watch watch it entirely but the story tackles about Ehra Madrigal whose spirit possessed Heart Evangelista's body to seek revenge. Ehra by the way committed suicide. At the end, just when everybody thought that they were able to exorcise Ehra's spirit form Heart's body, she returned and once again possessed Heart and caused the later to also commit suicide by hanging herself.

I'm impressed because the ending was not predictable and not a happy ending like the typical exorcism stories on TV where the demon will be successfully exorcised, this time the demon was successful to bring demise to the victim. There was a particular scene where a crucifix was spinning on the wall gave me goosebumps and Ehra Madrigal's acting as an evil spirit was convincing.

Since "Spooky Nights" started airing on GMA-7, it's episode were all comedy-horror and parodies of GMA soaps, but last night, it was more serious and the topic was sensitive. The Kapuso Network should do this more often.

Simon Cowell Wants X Factor to be More Successful than American Idol

Simon Cowell wants the US X Factor to be more successful American Idol.

The music mogul—who quit as a judge on American Idol to kick start the new version of the pop star search show—will "die trying" to be the most watched program, and he is confident The X Factor will become the best series of its kind.

He told TMZ.com: "You don't compete for the silver or the bronze, you may not get the gold, but you die trying. It's definitely going to be better than the other shows."

Simon's departure from American Idol led to a revamp of the judges with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler joining Randy Jackson on the panel, and he claims he isn't impressed by them.

He added: "It's not my cup of tea."

Nicole Scherzinger was initially named as a host of the U.S. show alongside Steve Jones, but she eventually replaced British pop star Cheryl Cole on the judges panel after just four auditions, something the Pussycat Dolls member recently admitted she cried about.

She said: "It's an honor. I'm not going to lie, I cried when Simon told me."

Camille Prats' Husband Anthony Linsangan 32, Succumbs to Cancer

Anthony Linsangan, Camille Prats‘ husband, died this morning, September 23, at St. Luke‘s Medical Center Global City.

Anthony Linsangan succumbed to nasopharyngeal cancer (cancer in the upper part of the throat) one year after being diagnosed of the disease. He was 32.

The wake will be at Heritage Park, Fort Bonifacio. The family has not yet decided on the interment date.

Anthony and Camille had a civil marriage last January 5, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. A church wedding followed on March 5, 2010 at the Santuario de San Antonio, McKinley Road, Forbes Park, Makati City.

Anthony is survived by his wife Camille and a 3-year-old son named Nathaniel Caesar.

Heart Evangelista and Geoff Eigenmann Topbills "Legacy"

"Legacy" is an upcoming drama series on GMA-7 starring Heart Evangelista and Geoff Eigenmann.

This is actually Heart and Geoff's reunion as love teams, 7 years ago their love team was featured on ABS-CBN's teleserye "Hiram" and the Star Cinema movie "Bcoz of U". Now, both under the roof of the Kapuso Network, Heart and Geoff are set to once again show off their chemistry as love teams.

Iza Calzado and TJ Trinidad are supposed to join Heart and Geoff in "Legacy"but they have been replaced by Lovi Poe and Sid Lucero. The director and other cast-members for the upcoming series are yet to be revealed by the Kapuso network.

Philippines to Host Miss Universe 2013?

Beauty pageant enthusiast out there will be glad to if the Philippines will host another Miss Universe Pageant. The Philippines hosted the Miss Universe Pageant twice, that was in 1974 and 1994 and it may happen again in 2013.

Panama has declined to stage the 2013 Miss Universe contest, two months after it was announced that the project is almost a done-deal between the government and the pageant organizers.
Reports also said the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) and ABS-CBN, new home of the BPCI, may soon bid for the staging of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant in the Philippines.
If the Philippines wins the bid, it would be the third time for the Miss Universe pageant to be held in the country. It was first held in the country in 1974 when Miss Spain Amparo Munoz won the title. This was followed in 1994 when Miss India Sushmita Sen was crowned.
2011 Miss Universe 3rd runner up Shamcey Supsup earlier said she would love the Miss Universe pageant to be staged in the country “to show to the world what the Philippines can offer.’’
Panama said the $12 million budget for the holding of the beauty pageant would be too much, adding that they could not afford to stage the contest at this point, according to the website Global Beauties as reported in the Panama newspaper Mi Diario.
Salo Shamah, head of Panama’s Tourism Administration, confirmed that the Miss Universe Organization and the national government had met on several occasions to discuss the project.
But last week, Panama President Ricardo Martinelli decided that they could not afford the staging of the beauty pageant.
“We don’t even have $12 million for our annual advertising project,’’ Shamah said. “Even if private companies were able to fund half the money that is needed, it is still a big hit to our government budget.’’
Authorities also said that the few minutes of telecast of the country’s top destinations are not worth it because most of the viewers are from Asia “who have no direct flights to our country.’’
Panama recently made a good standing in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil when its contestant Sheldry Saez placed among the Top 10 semifinalists and won the Best National Costume award. Panama staged the Miss Universe beauty pageant twice – in 1986 and 2003.

Richard Gutierrez Prepares for "Survivor Philippines"

Richard Gutierrez is now preparing for the return of Survivor Philippines which he will be hosting.

“It’s an exciting season and I can’t wait to begin my work (as host),” he says. “But there’s a bit of nervousness and excitement. I’ll be (in the island) for around 40 to 45 days and (living there) won’t be that easy. However, I now have expectations (and the idea of) how it goes. Last year, I found it difficult because it was my first. Now, I already experienced (how it was like doing the show). Things will be easy. I’m more aware of possibilities and what might happen. For this year, there will be more twists. We have a good line-up of celebrity castaways. The challenges are bigger (and more difficult).”

Anytime now, Richard is all set to fly to an island paradise and assures everyone that “we will try to make things even better this year.”

And when Richard was ask to give details about the castaways' island playground, Richard replies jokingly, “Dyan lang sa kanto ng Maldives.”

American Idol Season 10 Finalists Live in Manila!

The Top 11 Finalists of American Idol Season 10 are here in the Philippines for a two night concert as a part of the American Idol Tour.

The Philippines is actually the final stop of the American Idol Tour and this is also the first time for the country to be a part of the said tour.

The Top 11 Finalists of American Idol Season 10 Scotty McCreery, Thia Megia, Stefano Langone, Haley Reinhart, Jacob Lusk, Naima Adedapo, James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Paul McDonald, Lauren Alaina and Pia Toscano will perform live at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on September 20 and 21. They will also be visiting the Ayala Malls for fans meet and greet.

Last night September 17, 2011, four of the Top 11 AI finalists Scotty McCreery, Stefano Langone, Pia Toscano and our very own Thia Megia had a guest appearance at GMA-7's "Manny Many Prizes", they had some bonding moment with World Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao and it seemed that Scotty and Stefano were big fans of our "Pambansang Kamao". All four of them were given with the Team Pacquiao Jackets.

Thia Megia who is a half Pinay were ask to sing a duet with Manny Pacquiao but she doesn't know any Tagalog songs, she were ask to sing any song with Manny but neither the boxing champ know any other songs, so Manny Pacquiao serenaded Thia his rendition of "Sometimes When We Touch" and promise, that was so awkward, I don't even wanna look at the television set while it was happening.
