My last post was dated April 18, and this is already September. Whoa...

There were so many things happened these couple of months.

Good and bad, sad and happy, make me smile and cry.

One thing for sure, change is the only constant in life. Like Heraclitus said.

I should learn to keep up with this rapid change in my own little world.

Saved (the Deadline) by Speedy Instan

Sebagai freelance writer yang bekerja remotely maka lancarnya pekerjaan saya 99% bergantung pada 3 hal ini:

Laptop yang andal untuk nulis
Ide yang datang di saat yang tepat (dhi. sebelum deadline :p)
Daaan.... koneksi internet!

Koneksi internet ini penting banget untuk brief & discuss sama client, browsing untuk mencari ide dan mengumpulkan bahan tulisan, dan tentu saja untuk submit kerjaan.

Sebelumnya saya menggantungkan hidup pada fasilitas internet kartu GSM. Hingga di suatu Sabtu pagi yang cerah, mata masih mengantuk karena nglembur nulis semalem, saya mengedit final draft product release untuk client (salah satu IT startup di Bandung) yang harus disubmit hari itu. Grammar checked, saya baca ulang tulisan saya, dan bersiap submit kerjaan.

And there you are .... internetnya ga bisa konek!

Saya terbengong2 di ruang tengah sambil muter otak. Apa mesti ke warnet nih? Atau nyari wifi? Secara saya tinggalnya di kota kecil di pojok timur pulau Jawa (tepatnya di Situbondo, sila cari di peta :p) yang namanya hotspot ituh jarang banget.

Dan pandangan saya terhenti pada sebuah benda yang duduk manis di dekat pesawat telepon.

Eh apaan nih? Modem wifi?

Saya pun bertanya pada Bapak dan dijawab, "Dari Telkom yang masang. Gratis, ga bayar apa-apa."

Maka saya pun berinisiatif menelepon 147.
Dan penjelasan CS-nya benar-benar membawa angin segar buat saya.

Pelanggan dapat mengakses jaringan wifi.id menggunakan modem wifi yang disediakan gratis oleh Telkom atau di lebih dari 100 ribu lokasi hotspot Telkom. Caranya bisa dengan membeli kartu perdana Speedy Instan di Plaza Telkom terdekat atau menggunakan Speedy Instan 8108.
Berhubung handphone saya pake kartu Telkomsel, maka saya bisa langsung registrasi. Tinggal ketik sms NET 5000, kirim ke 8108, maka sudah bisa pake internet seharian alias 24 jam.

Dan ternyata responnya cepet lho. Segera setelah sms registrasi saya kirim, saya mendapat sms balasan berisi username dan password.

Dengan hati dagdigdug saya coba konek dengan laptop. Keluar layar untuk login Speedy instan@wifi.id, saya ketik username berikut password, dan yay! Berhasil konek internet!

Segera submit kerjaan, berhasil, pfiuuuh... daaan sekarang saya punya kuota untuk internetan seharian, unlimited lagi. *grin*

Sesuai namanya Speedy Instan ini tanpa abonemen, jadi sewaktu-waktu butuh tinggal cari hotspot jaringan wifi.id dan registrasi pake sms untuk dapat username. Praktis ya.

12 jam di Jogja

Lama-lama berdebu juga blog ini kelamaan ditinggal. :(

Minggu kemarin sempat ke Jogja lagi, setelah 5 tahun ngga ke sana.

Kesan pertamanya... maceeeeet.

Ya ampun, Jogja sekarang penuh mobil. kebalikan dengan jaman kuliah dulu yang rame motor. Sayang kelupaan ambil foto.

Preferred to enjoy every second I spent in Jogja. Karena waktunya juga sempit, barengan dengan urusan kantor.

Tapi malemnya sempat janjian sama temen untuk jalan ke daerah Bulaksumur. Senangnya karena di sini hanya sedikit perubahan. Ada beberapa gedung baru yang belum ada semasa saya kuliah.

Memutari daerah UGM naik motor rasanya menyenangkan. Seperti mengulang masa kuliah dulu. :)

Guru, digugu & ditiru

Beberapa hari kemarin ngeliat antrian guru-guru yang sedang mencairkan tunjangan sertifikasi.

Miris.

Di satu sisi ikut senang kesejahteraan mereka makin diperhatikan pemerintah. Di sisi lain, melihat tingkah laku mereka untuk urusan paling sederhana - i.e. ANTRI - sungguh memprihatinkan. Pantes anak didiknya ga nampak kemajuan yang berarti setelah program sertifikasi dijalankan beberapa tahun.

Etika, sopan santun, MERAH semua kalo dari sisi pandangan saya sebagai orang awam pendidikan.

Eh tapi etika & sopan santun memang ga ada di kurikulum ya. Jadi ga salah sih, mereka kan sekedar mengajar sisi akademis, bukan mendidik mental anak didik.

Jadi harus nyalahin siapa dong?

Salahin orangtuanya yang ga mendidik sopan santun anak di rumah. Karna yang diurus guru hanya sisi akademis dan bagaimana supaya lulus dapet ijazah.

Yeah, right.

Well, I've survived February. I think I'll survive the rest of 2013. :D
Still juggling between my role as a mom, wife, my day job, and freelance writing project. And so far everything is right on track.

But this blog is abandoned again. :(

I've designed a plan for the future, but my dear God seems to choose a different plan for me.

I think I need to calm down and see where the water flows.

Indonesian Blogger Day

I've been blogging since April, 2004.
I forget the exact date, but I still remember how it started.

That day I read a novel by Adhitya Mulya, Jomblo, and I noticed a web address written on the book which he called as his blog.

Blog? I got a big question mark in my head along with the curiosity.

So, after I finished reading the book, I visited his blog. His writing was so funny, so I was compelled to read nearly all of the previous posts. Then I started to click link listed on the blogroll.

The first link led me to Enda's blog. An entry entitled '8 Sebab Utama Memiliki Weblog' had made me tempt to create my own blog. I read the next post, 'Panduan Mudah Membuat Blog', and shortly afterwards I created my very first blog on blogspot.

There are many blogger community in Indonesia and I joined Blogger Family. But since I live outside Jakarta and also faraway from other major cities in Indonesia I never attend any blogger event.

I was a regular silent reader of numerous blogs at that time (and until now). I am amazed with their transformation. Lots of them have become successful through blogging.

Those veteran bloggers now rarely update their blogs. Some of them created twitter account, and I become their followers. Yeah, I know them, they don't know me. But I'm okay with that.

Last Saturday they reminded me that October 27, 2012 was Indonesian Blogger Day.

Whoa! It encourages me to sit down and write this entry, to recall the day when I started blogging.

Congratulations to me to keep this blog alive until now. :)

At first I thought this book was about another love story. I needed a light reading after office hours, and didn't want to read anything that force me to think hard.

Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan.

It's a story about what happen when you pursue your dreams. When you follow your passion of life. Not always a great picture though.

It's about Issy Randall, who's made redundant from her safe corporate job, choose to jump into baking business. Well, baking is her passion (and talent). But the business? Imagine about marketing, dealing with local bank manager to get loan, paperworks, rent, employee, you name it.

And also a love story. :)

An inspirational book. And these lines had slapped me in my face.

"... You have talents and skills but I just don't see where they've been used with you running around chasing up expenses and timesheets. It's like you just wanted to hide away doing something safe and a little dull, hoping nobody would notice you."

"... And I will say that if you end up doing the same job for someone else... I think you'll probably be as dissatisfied there as you have been here."

This book had forced me to think afterwards. To think about my own life.

People change

I always feel sad every time I hear news about someone who got divorce. A high school friend, a blogger whom I never met but I read her blog regularly, even if I never knew them in person, like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's divorce recently.

The same question would always pop up in my mind: "Why? What happened with their commitment?"

Until recently I concluded that the only answer is... well, people change.

Someone might get new insight that lead to new life goals, and the spouse failed to join her new life journey. Someone might get spiritual experience that make her more religious, and the spouse didn't agree with her new perspective.

And she might meet someone else who understand her better than the spouse.

The world is always changing, so are the people.

People always have the choice to stick to their commitments and communicate the changes to their spouse, or to move on to the next journey and leave the spouse behind.

I always love Sophie Kinsella's books, except her famous series, Shopaholic. I just can't stand reading about Becky shops again and again. :p

Her recent book, I've Got Your Number, is really entertaining as usual. It's a perfect light reading after the hectic office hour.
