Beautifully textured brocades in opulent red and gold were accompanied by a sprinkling of tribal folklore in the shape of colourful embroidered applique, a few extraordiary pieces of artfully placed jewellery and fabulous brocade shoes.

Video: Minimal Product Make-Up - Pink Flush

This is the look I was wearing in the intro of my last tutorial and was requested by many of you. I have added one extra product here in the shape of a moisturising sheer lipstick but if you want to stick to the original look, use the cream blush on lips for a pop of pink (and one less item!). I'm doing this look on myself everyday at the moment as I find blusher is essential at this time of year for making me look alive! Pink blush is gorgeously flattering on so many skintones and can really lift a tired complexion.

Blog: Gallery Update - Gemma Arterton For Vogue

I'm absolutely in love with everything about these shots by photographer Ben Weller for this months Vogue UK. The issue (with Lana Del Ray on the cover), also features an insightful interview with Gemma who has no less than three movies set for release this year. Gemma is one of the most beautiful and talented young actresses working today, I love doing her make-up because shes also one of the nicest. One of those natural beauties that looks equally good without a scrap of make-up on (dont you hate her now!) we decided to do a tough, 'rock chick' look with a hint of a 60's vibe as it worked well with the fierce styling. The look above was a deconstructed smokey eye, I wanted it to look kind of messed up and lived in.... and for the top shot, I added shine to the liner and an exaggerated, graphic black liquid line just above the socket area. Combined with a touch of light base - i love Gemmas freckles - and a pale lip I think this look works well. We shot these pics in super quick time as Gemma was due on set of her latest project but sometimes everthing just comes together so perfectly through team effort that a little magic is created!

To read Gemma's interview and see the pics first hand get the March issue of Vogue UK.

This first set are in the current issue of Marie Claire UK (i'll put the other one up soon as it features VERY different make-up). The look I was going for here was a defining beauty make-up that didnt overpower her natural beauty and personality but made her eyes really stand out (I used individual false lashes, lots of liner and shading). Liv has the most incredible lips which I played down, simply embellishing with a pale shimmery gloss so her very blue eyes took centre stage. Hope you like the pics X

My colouring is totally different to hers obviously but these are the sorts of tones I've used on her and its definitely something that can be adapted. Relaxed, very easy to wear and even easier to achieve, I hope you like it X

Blog: Lisa Loves - Love Letters With Make-up

It's been twelve months since the launch of Chanel's website dedicated to all things beauty 'Chanel Make-Up Confidential' and to celebrate this birthday it's been re-vamped and re-designed with a new feel. I found this pricelss 'tutorial' yesterday when Pathe uploaded it to their 'Vintage Archive' youtube channel. I'm a massive fan of Pathe films. They have the most comprehensive, fabulous archives stetching back over a centuary so you can really get a sense of how things were.

Something about the easy Parisian style, delicate colouring and twinkle in her eye. I've seen Clemence quite a bit recently, doing her make-up for this shoot and then bumping into her again last week as she was in town promoting Birdsong. Almost twenty years since it was first published, Sebastian Faulks book has finally been made into a film for the BBC starring Eddie Redmayne and Clemence. I missed the first installment of this epic tale so need to have a big catch up session on i-player as soon as possible! Did any of you see it?

Video: Marilyn Monroe - Iconic Make-up Look

Although its very difficult to get all the exact details as her make-up artist never betrayed her secrets, it's fun to talk about the different tricks and details of Marilyn's look. In this video Marilyn had lots of different looks and was pretty natural off camera but this video concentrates on the very glamorous look she had for her movies and poster shoots from 1953 through to the end of the 50's. Lots of the tricks were geared towards the lighting, film and cameras of the time... Hope you enjoy it!

First you’ll need a good moisturiser or primer to suit your skin type. Ideally one that leaves your skin with a dewy sheen (unless you have oily skin in which case use oil free without a dewy finish). Marilyn liked Vaseline, Nivea and Erno Laszlo.

Next apply a medium coverage, fresh finish foundation (so nothing too chalky or matte). I used Suqqu Cream Foundation applied using a By Terry Foundation Brush in the video.

Conceal as needed and, if you have oily skin, apply a light dusting of sheer powder.

Apply a white/beige cream shadow without shimmer all over the eyelid. I use Bobbi Browns Glacier (Bone would be better for darker skintones) but you could also use a MAC Paintpot. If you don’t have any cream eyeshadows, use a matte powder eyeshadow in a similar shade.

Apply a white shimmery powdered eyeshadow all over the lid concentrating on the lid, brow bone and inner corner. Any brand is fine.

Give eye lashes a good curl - I use Shu Uemeura in the video.

Add a good coat of any mascara to top lashes - I’m using Lancome's Doll Eyes.

Apply a set of specially made ‘half lashes’ or cut an existing full set in half leaving the longer end intact. Apply to outer half of top lashes. See my ‘applying fake lashes’ video for advice on application.

A brown pencil or gel (for modern day formula) is used next to trace a thin line along the top lashline, winging it up and out at the end. I use Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Sepia Ink.

Take any cool taupey shade (to suit your skin tone) and buff the shade into the outer third of the socket line to create depth. I used a Mac 217 brush to do this.

Next, using the same shade of eyeshadow or a soft pencil draw a fake ‘upper lash shadow’ (as shown in the video) and then blend it well with either a brush or a cotton bud/Q-Tip. I used Suqqu Eyeshadow brushes.

Add a touch of mascara to lower lashes.

Using either a cream or powder contour start contouring your face. The exact method will be different for everyone as its dependent on your face shape but aim for a heart shaped look with wide forehead, high cheekbones and smaller chin/jaw line effect.

Highlight your face using either a lighter cream foundation, cream or powder highlighter, shimmey or flesh toned pale powder shadow and apply to the front of the cheeks at the side of the nose, high onto the cheekbones, down the centre of the nose, top of the lip and centre of the forehead. Again be lead by what suits your face shape and skin type.

Apply a bright corally pink blusher as shown in the video. I used the Horizon Blush De Chanel along the cheek bones and up onto the temples to sculpt.

Shape lips as shown using a true bluish red lip pencil with high pigment. I’m using Mac Lip Pencil in Cherry. How you do the lips depends on how long you want to spend and how many red lipsticks you own! In the video I use Macs Ruby Woo, Macs Lady Danger and Guerlain Kiss Kiss Insolence De Rouge.

Apply a touch of shimmer powder to the centre of the lower lip and finish with a coat of lip gloss.

Blog: Gallery Update - Fierce Block Brows

This editorial I did for Turkish Vogue recently is all about extreme fierce brows, glossy skin and major highlighting and contouring. A mini homage to the early 90's androgeny and the 'blocked out' brows of Rei Kawakubo's Comme Des Garcons girls and Peter Lindberg.

Raw, natural textured glossy skin against strong, artificial looking brows creates a really good contrast.

In reality, this coming season is all about strong, full brows (not as severe as this obviously!) and as many of you know, I hate thin, mean looking brows anyway so anything that encourages women to step away from the tweezers is good in my book.

I used fluidline gel liner by Mac in black to draw on the brows. The skin was glossed up with Mac's face gloss and Tom Fords Cream contour and highlight palette was used to further shape and define.

In honour of the great man I thought I’d post my favourite of his legendary make-up looks. Not only a music god but a make-up icon!! I came across this fantastic interview from November 1973 of David discussing his looks, favourite products and make-up techniques with Music Scene Magazine (below). We salute you David …. Well, as a polish addict I have quite a few. This video covers some of my top favourites and why I personally love them. It also features a cool storage item I spied on a shoot recently. What are your favourite shades? How do you fellow nail colour addicts store your bottles?

Video: Green Smoke Glittery Glam Party Eyes

This glam party look featuring deep berry lips, sultry green smoked eyes and the twinkly addition of good old fashioned glitter in fresh iced peppermint is deliciously wintery. Shimmery, modern textured skin compliements the eyes and keeps everything looking bang up to date. This look can work on all ages...just reduce the glitter and shimmer factor on more mature skins (however, a tiny touch of shimmery light or twinkle on the inner corner of the eye still works perfectly well on a much more mature lady).

You can of course swap the green shades for golden bronzes or plummy purples and it'll still be fabulous. You can also use any brand of eyeshadow, you really dont need to invest in Tom Ford (as much as we love him!). Mac, Maybelline and many other brands have shades very similar to these.

Hope you have a great time and I wish you all a very Happy Holidays! X

Here is a shoot I worked on with British singer/songwriter (and one of this years UK X Factor judges) Tulisa Contostavlos. Fans of the show will know by now that Little Mix (who I loved!), the girlband Tulisa mentored, won the competition - but at the time of this Glamour shoot the process had only just begun.

Tulisa is a naturally very pretty girl with a unique style so I kept her look very simple. Changing only the lip colour for the different shots - a pale, nude pink for the close up beauty shot, bright orange and pinks for the fashion shots and a fresh raspberry for the cover.

Tulisa has amazing eyes which I accentuated with a thick black liquid liner placed graphically along the top lashes and a much softer, more blended smokey powder line along the lower lash line. A full set of lashes and defined 'Elzabeth Taylor inspired' brows kept the focus of the eye-make-up on the top lid and gave the make-up an updated 'old school' glamour feel.

To create all the lip colours used, I mixed and blended shades from my beloved lip palettes.

To see my palettes click here.

What do you think of the look I gave her?

Blog: Red Carpet - Kelly Reilly

This week saw the European Premiere of the new Sherlock Holmes movie in London's Leicester Square. I was thrilled to be making up fantastic Brit actress Kelly Reilly, one of the films leading ladies. Kelly has appeared in many films including the first Sherlock movie, Eden Lake and Pride & Prejudice.

I just love her amazing red hair and icy blue eyes, perfect for a smudgy smokey eye. Kelly asked me to use her favourite eyeshadow Dior's Ultra Violet to create the soft and messy, smokey eyed look she prefers. I hadnt used this shadow before but found it to be a total winner for bringing out her eyes. The base of the shadow is matte black shot through with large violet pearl to give an iridescent effect.

After using Chanel's Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation in No.50 sparingly so's not to cover Kellys skin (and fabulous freckles), I buffed Macs paintpot in Blackground all over the eyelids lightly as a base for the eyeshadow. Next I worked the sooty ultra violet shadow over the paintpot bringing it up and out slightly at the outer corners. I then smudged it along the lower lashes to create a soft cloud of smoke. Next I used Macs Fluidline in Blacktrack along the lower waterline and through the upper lash roots, smudging well.

Cheeks were given a soft bloom with Make Up For Ever HD blush in Light Rosewood and Dr hauschkas bronzer was used to shape and define Kelly's killer bone structure.

Lips were incredibly simple with a a layer of No7's Nude pencil follwed by a light dab of MUFE HD blush in Cassis (a rich red berry shade) as a stain.

I love making up redheads as you can really have fun harmonizing the colours. The slightest hint of colour shows up and reacts immediately with red hair which is why I felt Kelly choice of the violet/black shadow worked so well. The photo below is a little blown out with flash but I hope you get the general idea and like the look X

Blog: Lisa Loves - Dream In Full Colour

I really wanted to include this very christmassy 'dream-catcher' inspired palette in my Christmas Gift Guide video but didnt manage to get one in time to feature. I absolutely love stained glass windows so was immediately drawn to it.

Stila was a favourite of mine back when it launched in the early 90's, a combination of the cute retro illustrated packaging and cutting edge make-up artist friendly formulations - the line was founded by the fabulous hollywood make-up artist Jeanine Lobell. Jeanine sold the line after 5 years and I was sad to watch how quickly it fell from grace after Estee Lauder took over the reigns in 1999. Evenutally stock dwindled completely and it left the UK before being sold on again in 2006 and again in 2009.

I'm very happy to say that not only is Stila back on our shores but, by the look of this palette, its back with a bang! I really hope the new owners will do it justice and bring it back to its former glory.

What are your favourite Stila products?

Video: Gold, Sparkly, Glittery, Glossy....

This video is a tutorial of the look I was wearing in my Christmas Gift video as so many people requested it. I personally feel that it looks more modern when you colour block it as a single shade. Blending it with other shades or trying to make it subtle and wearable feels like a total misnomer and slightly misses the point. Whenever I use red on the eyes for editorial I love it best as a bold, clean statement. One could probably make any shade of red work with the right application and make-up on the rest of the face however, as much as I don’t really like make-up ‘rules’, I do feel that for the novice red eye shadow wearer there are certain shades that work best on different skin tones. It is more of a runway/editorial colour for eyes but it can look amazing for a party, so work it baby!

The kitsch designs look great displayed on dressing tables and bathroom shelves, and they’re also the perfect size for handbags and make-up cases.

The cream itself has a light, creamy texture, but when applied actually feels quite rich on the skin, making it perfect to use coming into the winter months. While it’s primarily designed to be a face cream, I find the richness a little two heavy for my combination skin but perfect as a body and hand cream (being completely multi-purpose, you could use it for all three if your skin is on the dry side).

As the name suggests, Steamcream is made through a steaming production process. When this process is used, it means the ingredients (such as cocoa butter and orange flower) can be fused together really quickly – this is what gives the product its converse texture, light to the touch but rich on the skin. Steaming also allows the ingredients to break down instantly on contact with the skin, meaning it’s able to sink straight in. It also contains pure essential oils such as lavender and almond, which intensify Steamcream’s healing and moisturising properties.

I find it quite interesting that the cream itself never changes – while so many brands work and rework product after product, Steamcream change the packaging while keeping what’s inside exactly the same.

This is a really cult product – the tins change every season, making them real collectables for Steamcream fans. In this picture you can see some of their limited edition designs, perfect stocking fillers for family and friends. Plus, once the cream is gone, the tins make nice storage tins for rings, earrings, pins or loose change. So it really is a multi-purpose product, with multi-purpose packaging!

Steamcream is £10.50 (for 75g) at Boots, John Lewis, Selfridges, ASOS and www.steamcream.co.uk. You can buy the three limited edition Christmas tins at Boots for £24.95.

Have you tried Steamcream? What do you think of it and do you have a favourite tin, past or present?

Video: Puffiness & Bags Under The Eyes - Causes And Treatments

The second film concerning problems in the delicate under eye area covers some of the causes and treatments available to help with bags and puffiness.

I’m not a scientist but I do have access to some of the worlds best cosmetic scientists and I’m always pushing to hear what’s new and interesting. Darkness and discolouration under the eyes has two main causes which I cover simply in this video along with some of the most well researched and effective ingredients for tackling the different causes.

I don’t feature too many products, instead focusing on identifying exactly what type of dark circles you have and the best ingredients to tackle them so you can make good choices when product shopping.

There is another video in this series coming tomorrow which covers some of the causes and treatments for under eye puffiness and bags (a question subject which holds joint place with the above as most frequently asked). I also made a video about using make-up to cover up under eye issues however it came in feature film length (so much to say!) so I think I need to re-make it!

Blog: Gallery Update - Anna Friel & Eva Herzigova

This week two very different cover shoots I worked on came out. The first is super cute 'Pushing Daisies' star Anna Friel. I did her make up in a very retro 60's pin up/glamour girl style as I thought it really suited Anna's elfin features.

To see how to do this type of eye make-up see my 'Quick & Simple 60's eye' tutorial.

The second shoot was with gorgeous super model Eva Herzigova for the cover of the newly re-lauched Italian Amica magazine. This is a shot from inside (unfortunately its not the best quality scan but hopefully you get the idea!). The make up was very glamorous but in a completely different way to Anna's. I used the illusion d'Ombre in Illusoire on her eyes (as featured in my 'Chic 5 minute make-up' tutorial) and the lipstick is a mixture of Mac's Ruby Woo and Lady Danger.

Hope you like these make-up looks! x

I dont know about you but I'm often feeling tired, run down and as though I'm coming down with something around the party season.

This very simple, classic look is super pretty and really gives a fresh peachy bloom to your skin. A universally flattering make-up that works on all skin tones (with a tweak to the shades to suit of course). This look will also compliment any outfit as the shades are neutral enough not to clash with any colours you may be wearing. It also looks super chic with a classic 'Little Black Dress'

Hope you like the look and I wish you all a healthy up coming party season!

Blog: Red Carpet - Sophie Dahl

Last night I did Sophie Dahls make-up for the Harpers Bazaar ‘Women Of The Year’ Awards at Claridges. I kept skin fresh and natural with the main focal point of the make-up, Sophie’s incredible eyes. I think she looked simply beautiful!

Jerome Touron. The blog is split into seven sections all featuring beautiful imagery, inspiring quotes, fantastic video footage (check out Jerry Hall talking about how she was discovered) and interviews with beauty industry insiders. One of my favourite sections is called 'Genealogy' which features a series of almost identical beauty images shot at various points in history for magazines and brand campaigns. Makes you realise just how repetitive beauty imagery really is!

In addition to simply lined upper lashes, classic kitten flick and extreme cat eye there are all kinds of edgy, arty, out-there creative shapes and colours gracing the pages of the glossies (and the runway). Newer formulations, and more importantly packing solutions, mean application is starting to get easier (still takes practice though!).

In the video I mess around with a colour that from the minute I saw I was drawn too. this dark olive green shade felt a bit different and flattering for autumnal nights. In terms of the shape, stick to shapes which suit your eyes and go as edgy as you dare. Remember that most peoples faces are pretty asymetrical especially when in movement (talking etc), so dont beat yourelf up if you dont look like a photoshopped advert when your done. Its more about having fun with make-up. I've tried to include lots of tips for getting a good application, like applying the liner looking straight ahead and keep pulling back to check, so hopefully it'll be a useful one as well.

There are some pretty amazing shades of liquid liner available, so choose a shade you love (with your heart not your head) and start creating!

Blog: Inspiration - Kevyn Aucoin

I've been a big fan of Kevyn Aucoin, the make-up artist and the man, for a long time. 2012 will mark the 10th anniversary of his untimely death so I really wanted to celebrate his life and work here on my blog.
Kevyn had an incredible career – he worked with legendary celebrities, created iconic images, wrote best-selling books (as well as a regular column for Allure Magazine) and designed his own make-up line which is still going strong and winning awards today; regular viewers of my tutorials will know that I’m a big fan of his line, especially his lash curlers!

Kevyn became interested in make-up at a very young age when he began making up his five year old sister Carla, recreating images he’d seen in magazines and taking pictures of her with an old Polaroid camera. As a young, obviously gay, flamboyant boy with a passion for make-up, growing up in Louisiana in the 60’s and 70’s was extremely difficult but despite being relentlessly teased and bullied he stuck to his dream of becoming a make-up artist. In 1982 he moved to New York where he ambitiously perused his career. Initially working for free with up-and-coming models and photographers, he was discovered by Vogue and championed by their then beauty editor Andrea Quinn Robinson. For the next year and half, he worked closely with legendary photographers Steven Meisel and Irving Penn before shooting his first Vogue cover in 1986 with Cindy Crawford – over the next three years, he did the make-up for 18 more!

Kevyn had a legion of celebrity fans who you can see in the video, beautiful women like Whitney Houston, Andie MacDowell and Nicole Kidman, who once told the New York Times, “When Kevyn did make-up, it was kind of magical; he would look at you and say, ‘Oh, I know exactly what to do.’” He loved to celebrate individuality and really knew how to bring out the beauty in every face he touched…. Often completely transforming his clients with breath taking results.

He was a real style leader and truly innovative. His talent was quickly recognised by Revlon, who hired him in 1993 (aged just 21!) to be the Creative Director of their new prestige make-up line Ultima II. With them, he developed a make-up line called The New Nakeds (later renamed The Nakeds), which broke all of the trends for cosmetic brands at the time as it incorporated make-up for women of all skin tones. He also used a variety of neutral, matte, tones in his face, eye and lip products that went against the best-selling vivid colours of the time but that followed his belief that make-up should be a tool in helping people to discover their natural beauty. Kevin led the way for brands like Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier, which were also built on this aesthetic.

In a way his most enduring legacy to the world of make up was creating the original ‘Nude’ Look, and particularly his take on a look that I like to call ‘Heavy Natural’. Using neutral tones of mainly matte texture he would sculpt, define, highlight, shape and tone a face, minimizing and maximizing features like no one before him (or since!). It was a look, which has become synonymous with the late 80’s early 90’s and although he moved on from this style later in the 1990’s I think most of us will always remember and admire him for that particular vision of beauty.

Tragically, Kevyn passed away in 2002, not long after he finished working on his own brand, Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, but his legacy definitely lives on. I love how this video portrays all sides of him: his passion, his hard work and dedication, his love for make-up but also his personality as a genuine, caring, charming and funny man who was also very cool and completely un-divaish. I love it when he says that make-up is fun, but he knows that he’s “not saving lives”. I also love how he say's that a celebrity client, like a german shepherd, will sense right away if you are not confident or dont know what you are doing.... he got that right!

Hair dresser Sam McKnight, who worked with Kevyn on some of his earliest Vogue shoots and many times after, recalls - “ He really lived and breathed his work. The thing that made him unique was his ability to transform a face… he had the power to truly transform a face like no-one else. He became great friends with his clients and completely indispensible to them. He could turn an already iconic face into the face of a goddess - he could take it that step further. On top of all that he was just such fun to work with!”

font-family:Arial;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial">Top beauty journalist Nadine Baggott interviewed Kevyn at the height of his fame - “Kevyn was the first MUA that I actually sought out credits for. I would scan the gutters of the glossies trying to find out what products and techniques that he used. I met him in NYC. He was very handsome, quite shy, modest and brilliant to interview. Before celebrity MUAs, before everyone and their dog had signed to a make-up company, he was doing his own thing, being unique, breaking beauty boundaries and being brilliant. I was in total awe and in fifteen minutes tried to get him to explain and show me his groundbreaking shading and highlighting skills. I was raised on 1940's and 1950's Hollywood films and this man spoke my language. His books should be on every beauty addict's shelf and handled with cotton gloves. The man was a true artist”<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Helvetica;mso-bidi-font-family:

When I first started out in make-up I would have loved the chance to assist him and watch him work first hand but I started my career in London and Paris and Kevyn was always based in New York where he was loved by photographers, hair dressers and models alike. When I began working in New York in 1993 I heard such great things about him (particularly from the editors at Allure who I was working with a lot at the time). I hoped to meet him when I worked with Shisiedo in Japan. as he had been creative director of another of Shiseido’s brands Innoui (where he was the first person to design a double concealer palette…surely the inspiration for Laura Merciers Secret Camoflague) but sadly, by the time I started there he had moved on to start work on his own line…. It just wasn’t meant to be.

He really did have an incredible career becoming great friends with many of his childhood idols like Barbara Striesnd and Liza Minelli and did far too many amazing things for me to possibly list or summarise here. If you’re interested in finding out more about him, I urge you to invest in one of his books (nearly time for the Christmas lists!) which truly show off his amazing artistic mind and talent to the max. There is also a posthumous biography by Kerry Diamond,"Kevyn Aucoin - A Beautiful Life" which charts his life from difficult childhood to superstar Make-up Artist featuring quotes from those that knew him best.

I hope you enjoy this short video, it’s always been a favourite of mine. I’d love to know what you think…did any of you have the good fortune to meet him? Do you already have any of his make-up books?

Anonymous looks like a really interesting film, which questions the authenticity of the work of William Shakespeare and asks whether it was actually written by the Elizabethan aristocrat and 17th Earl of Oxford, Edward de Vere, who is played by Rhys Ifans. Joely plays the part of a young Queen Elizabeth 1, a role which she shares with her mother Vanessa Redgrave who stars as the older Elizabeth, so it was a really special film for her.

Video: My Emma Watson Cover Look

So many of you requested a 'get the look' video for my Emma Watson Elle UK cover (shot by uber snapper Rankin) that it just had to be done. It's a really simple look which can easily be adapted (less or more mascara, more pink in the cheeks etc) to suit the individual. The look really focuses on the spiky lashes and super highlighted skin. Emma is undoubtelbly one of the most gorgeous young actresses around, so I must ask you to put your imaginations into overdrive as not only am I old enough to be Emma's mother - but I was also extrememly tired (and a little hungover) when I shot this!

Hope you enjoy it! X

The nail polish I'm wearing by the way is Boots No7 Chritmas Limited Edition 'Glitter Bomb'.

I’ve been using them for a while now and have absolutely fallen in love! They’re made from a blend of vegetable waxes and pure essential oils, so are completely organic and smell absolutely divine (my current favourite is the 'Sensuous' Home candle with Ylang Ylang, Frankincense and Patchouli essential oils... perfect for cosy autumnal evenings). The candles are densely packed with essential oils so as they burn they work as a therapeutic aromatherapy treatment to relax and de-stress tired bodies and minds - transforming your living room into a mini-spa!

I was really intrigued to find out more about the brand and saw that as well as candles Neom also make room mists, reed diffusers and have recently branched out into bath and body products. My current favourite thing from the new range is their organic body oil in ‘Refresh’ - a zingy blend of Sicilian lemon and fresh basil. I’ve been slathering myself in this stuff everyday for the past few weeks.

The line was founded by ex-Glamour and InStyle editor Nicola Elliot, who was shocked to learn that the average woman uses over 250 chemicals on her skin every day. She became obsessed with getting our daily chemical count down, and wanted to create a range of completely organic products that not only would help do this, but that were also just as good - if not better - than their synthetic counterparts ...and so Neom was born!

Video: One Lipstick... Different Ways To Wear It

In this film, I use one gorgeous lipstick to show just how versatile this classic product can be. After a decade that saw many of us wearing mainly lip gloss, often with little colour, I am really happy that lipstick has been making a real comeback over the past few years. This video covers all the different ways to apply lipstick well, so that I will not only look great but also last.

Some of you may be thinking “this sounds familiar” and you’d be right as I did make a similar film about 18 months ago, which I absolutely loved but had to take down, as there were some technical problems. I decided to remake it as I felt it was such a good ‘tip heavy’ and useful one! I believe that with one great lipstick and a little know how you can achieve so many different looks and effects. One lipstick can really take you from day to night, work to party even if, as I demonstrate, it’s a very bold or bright shade.

I hope you enjoy watching and are inspired to try out some of the different techniques with your own lipsticks.

Blog: Gallery Update - Emma Watson For ELLE

Back in May I had the pleasure of working with the gorgeous and multi talented Emma Watson on this shoot for Elle magazine. I headed over to Paris for the shoot - always a treat in itself - and was thrilled to be working with the Elle team who are all fabulous and one of my favourite photographers, the talented and very funny Rankin. Elle really wanted to give Emma a different look to the one we know her best for. Romantic and soft along with red carpet glamour were strictly off the agenda, and make up, hair and clothes all had to be young, cool and fun!

When we arrived on set in the morning, we had a huge trying on session, with Emma picking out her favourites from a vast wardrobe of fabulous designer numbers. So much fun and surely every girl’s dream!

For the make up, I kept Emma’s skin very fresh, with lots of shimmery highlighter on her cheeks and some shading under her cheekbones. Lips were dressed in a natural stain and eyelids were super sheeny using eye gloss. Emma’s eyes were definitely the focal point of this look and I used layer upon layer of Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara to make the lashes look as if they were almost dripping mascara. This way of doing lashes, despite being quite an editorial look, is great for adding a punky edge to any look. This was all topped of with strong, fierce eyebrows to give a graphic element.

I really loved her hair and nails for the shoot too and as for those black bunny ears...don't we all need a set of those?!!

Enter the Chanel S/S 2012 polishes named after the months of spring. April, a wonderfully rich and luminous garnet, May a beautiful rose pink with delicate multicoloured pearl and June a creamy pastel apricot. I was immediately drawn to June (I'm wearing it in the pic) as its one of those shades that flatters many skin-tones. I’ve been wearing it this past week and have received a lot of compliments. Apparently the weather is turning very cold tomorrow but for now… I'm all about Junes future bloom.
Which is your favourite?

After doing a very natural look for the three days of press junket prior to the premiere we decided to glam things up considerably for the red carpet. Gabriella really is a natural beauty with skin most of us would die for! To compliment her deep red Gucci dress we worked a full on 70's glamour vibe for the hair and make-up. Purple and plum shadows with a touch of grown up glitter, pink blush and a two shades of red lip stain combined with very natural dewy skin to keep things looking modern and fresh.

Video: Behind The Scenes At Matthew Williamson S/S 2012 Show - With The Winner Of My Competition!

I recently had a competition on here to win a ticket to the Matthew Williamson S/S 2012 show at the Tate Modern - courtesy of Suqqu, who sponsored the make-up for the show. The funny thing is, I was running so late that day, it's ironically one of the quickest and least thought-out looks I’ve ever done on myself! Very little technique and expert blending is needed so it’s good for everyone including make-up rookies! You can adapt the look by adding eyeliner to make it look more done or evening. With all the rosy blush, highlighter and shimmery eyes, Its a really nice skin boosting look too.
This Elle fashion story called for some serious old school pin up glamour with a modern twist. I started by bleaching our model Agnete's eyebrows to lift the heavy-ness of the lashes & liner on her deep set eyes and to create a sense of something stark and modern in her face. I dyed her brows back to their natural shade (a greyish brown) afterward. Not surprisingly, many models hate having their brows bleached as they look a bit scary on a regular day when they are not working and being made up. I always re-assure the girls I'll put them back to their former glory before they leave. Plenty of models positively love it though and have made bleached brows their signature. Its a look that's been around editorially (and for runway) for SO long now that its become less of a trend and more just another option of how you can work brows on a shoot.

The brand is evident all over the store, filling all of the 23 front facing windows with giant Chanel flags fluttering overheard, pop up store on the ground floor selling, amongst other things, Chanels interpretation of the famous green shopping bag and wellies! There is also a visually stunning beauty pop up stocking Peter Philips's special Limited Edition 'Knightsbridge' make-up collection, created especially for this event.

On the third floor however, is the piece de resistance, a museum worthy installation entitled Une Promenade.

Video: Dramatic Metallic Smokey Eyes

Gorgeous copper, silver, gold and bronze eye make-up was all over the runways at the fall/winter collections. Metallic shadows are a great way of adding interest to a basic smoky eye. Go for it with a strong metallic look or for a more subtle effect just add a quick dab at the inner corner for an instant evening/party look.

The dramatic runway version of the metallic smoke eye I’m creating in this video can be easily adapted to make it more wearable by further softening and blending the edges and substituting the black shadow base and pencil for grey, chocolate brown, silvery graphite or even dark olive green.

Its a look which hasn't been around for a while as it was seen as pretty naff to pair up lip and nails let alone every area of your face. As much as I love clashing colours its really nice to see this trend winging its way back as its universally flattering, chic and sophisticated. Theres something so classic and pulled together about a monochrome look whichever tones you choose to use. This look was seen using purples, plums, neutral brows, bricks and pinks. As make-up trends go its pretty foolproof and looks equally at home in the office as it does on the runway. x

Special thanks to the amazing Luma Grothe for modeling this look. Throughout the press campaign, I consciously avoided the 1940's make-up she wears in the movie (not that she doesn't look good in a red lip ...she totally rocks it!). Actresses need to be seen as distinctly separate from the characters they play otherwise they can look as though they are playing themselves, so I stuck to lots of modern smokey eyes, natural fresh looks and Christine Keeler-inspired make-up looks in these images.

For those of you that haven't heard of Christine Keeler before, she was a model/party girl in the early 60's who became involved in one of the biggest political scandals of the decade. In 1963, at the height of her infamy, Christine posed for a set of photographs which went on to become some of the most iconic and defining of that era.

I find this moment in beauty history especially interesting, as make up was in a real transition from the grown-up, lady-like sophistication of the 50's to the big eyed, bambi look synonymous with the 60's. Christine's style is a great example of this period. Hayley wasn't as scantily clad as Christine in this shoot, as it was for September Glamour, but nonetheless, I think Hayley successfully captured the mood of the 60's starlet.

Who are your favourite icons of this period?

I badly needed a nail make-over and who better to put an emergency call in to than British nail supremo Sophy Robson. Her uber cool handiwork can be seen in all the glossiest magazines as well as strutting down the runways of Giles Decon, Louis Vuitton, Top Shop, House Of Holland, Vivienne Westwood, Ungaro, Loewe, Stella McCartney, Antonio Beradi, Roland Mouret and MANY more. Phew, see what I’m saying ...she is totally MAJOR when it comes to creating THE nails of the season.

Lucky for me, Sophy and I have worked together a lot over the years so she gracefully rose to the challenge of sorting my claws out.

The result: THE manicure for fall/AW - The New French. As Sophy points out, it’s a million miles away from the hideous footballers wife/glamour model staple of previous years ...this is cool, current, modern and chic. Its not about the colours or the fact that theres a coloured tip, what makes it new is the shape. A slightly pointed, oval nail with the smile line mirroring the shape, staying thin at the tip tapering right down the side of the nail (like a gentle V shape). Sophy chose beige and navy for me, which I loved, but you can do it in any of the great new Autumn /Winter shades around. Like wise the top coat ...I went for super shiny, but it would look equally fabulous with matte.

Great for when you don’t want to look too try-hard and haven’t got a lot of time. Beautifully shot by Turkish photographer Cuneyt Akeroglu, a London based photographer with a penchant for the very English business of a Devonshire cream and strawberry jam scone in the afternoon (my waistband expanded enormously during this shoot!)

Turkish Vogue launched 1 year ago and has a great feeling of newness about it... I like the way it's dared to use three fresh new faces (and minimal copy) on the cover instead of the usual celebrities or well known models.

The Eldridge speciality of flawless, luminous skin was the order of the day - hope you like!
