This bird used to be referred to as a fish hawk, yet today in many places it’s called an Osprey.

These raptors are known for their ability to catch fish, their main food source. They have interesting bodily features and an amazing skill for catching slippery fish near the surface of waterways.

Rhode Island has a population of Osprey. I have done some monitoring of an Osprey nest in the city of Pawtucket.

The city is located along two riverways. The Blackstone River runs through the city’s center to then plunge over a 50-foot waterfall before transitioning into the Seekonk River.

One nest I watched was near one of the elementary schools and play fields. The river passes by that spot. It was ideal for an Osprey. A pair of adults build a nest on top of one of the light posts of the baseball field. They successfully had young that fledged there a couple of years.

The Osprey population in RI has been overall good.

A year so ago, the nest was moved to the large playing field next to it. One year a youngster fledged.

This past year the adult ospreys were there only a short time.

Though we can make speculations of why the adults left that nest, we’ll never really know why.

Later in the season I happened to be driving on the other side of the river and noticed another nest not far from the other location, that had an adult and youngster in it. Apparently that nest location worked out good.

September: My daughter and I were at Blackstone Park, near the Seekonk River in Providence. We witness at least 4 Osprey flying over the river. They were soaring and circling. We got to see two of them dive for the water and successfully catch fish. It’s awesome to watch them do what they do.

I know that those Osprey will soon depart on their migration south. We’ll miss them but hope to see them again next Spring.

Ok, so I’m not among those people that are dog owners, but I still like dogs.

I’m that person in the neighborhood who has enjoyed being a pal to the dogs next door.

Our neighbor had a puggle named Dakota. She looked like a pug, yet when she barked it was the sound of a “Hound dog Howl”. I’d visit her regularly since she was just next door. And if she was out and noticed me she’d howl a “Hello”. She passed on over the rainbow bridge a time ago. But I still remember that Howl.

During the summer in my daily travels to work/errands/etc, I’ve noted Dogs in cars going somewhere. So I compiled some sketches together.

Providence, RI has a nest box, where Peregrine Falcons nest. Nest Box located high on the superman, downtown.



Recently I got to see a couple of PF at Roger Williams Memorial Park, near downtown.

I placed the humming bird feeder out on
a plant staff. Happily in a day or two, a
female humming bird came to our yard.
She is small. Her iridescent feathers
make her seem like a jewel.
She is swift. One moment she’s at the
feeder drinking. The next moment she
flies off.
It’s a joy to witness. Yet it’s only for the
summer.
In August she will fly back south to
Central America.

The warmer weather enables us to explore and site see.
This past May 26 was our 30th Wedding Anniversary.
Our daughter encouraged us to go away on a vacation to celebrate.
I had been wanting to visit the wild ponies of Chincoteague. I had read both “Misty”
and “Stormy” of Chincoteague books when I was young.
So we went. It was a lovely time.

It was a foggy, wet day. But worth the drive.

I lived in Randolph, Massachusetts.

We were located near the Reservoir.

Oak Street ran by one of the closest spots to the water. I found it to be a great place to bird watch. There were lots of water fowl to observe.

Canada Geese were of course among the water birds.

One day I was there with my camera I noticed a family of Geese on the other side of the road edging to cross. There were a couple of cars coming down the road at that time. I signaled to the cars to slow down.

They noticed the Geese too and stopped. The family of geese then crossed the street successfully.

What happened next I didn’t expect. The geese came toward where I was standing. They stopped to rest. One of the adults looked at me and seemed relaxed. They stayed there for a few minutes.

I felt an energy of gratefulness and peace.

I took a picture of them with my camera.

Later I did a Pen and Ink drawing of the Goose family, shown above.

January 22, 2026 a large snow storm dumped 18 inches of the white stuff in the Providence RI area.

I remember snow storms when I was young. I’d go sledding at my friend’s housethat had a hill. When we got too cold to stay out, we’d go warm up inside with somehot chocolate.

The 1978 Blizzard happened the day before I turned 12 years old.
I woke up to hear: No school
Yet we couldn’t go out. The next day the only door we could go out was the back porch door.

We went out to unbury the cars.
A huge Backhoe truck made passes to clear the snow.
There were some people that got trapped in the storm.
It was two weeks until school opened again.

People walked up the street to the convenient store.
We enjoyed stopping and talking to our neighbors.

With this latest storm, I noticed some kids sledding at the playing field hill.
On the way to an appointment, My daughter pointed out a deer in Lincoln Woods park.

I did a couple of Pen and Ink drawings, which you can see below.

Things have been moved around.  We moved our toothbrushes and floss to the living room. 

Some inconveniences have been had. Use of the space has been limited a times.    

It’s taking longer than we’d expected.

Finding another wall behind the wall.  

Yet despite those things, We looked forward to seeing it once it’s done.  

This period is merely temporary.

Having a vision for tomorrow. 

I’ve been playing with Claybord.  A board with a thin layer of clay.  I apply colored inks.  Then scratch out lines for texture. 

I am entering two pieces into the Pawtucker Arts Collaborative members exhibit.  

One is displayed below.
