This summer we discovered a little weed by our front steps.  We watched it grow into a vine, then we watched it flower, eventually it put on two small pumpkins, one didn’t make it.

The weather changed and the vine started to wither.  I ran out to snap a few shots of the mysterious pumpkin before plucking it.

Smaller than a baseball, a tiny white pumpkin.  Wonder where it came from. . .

Do you know of any kitties tougher than a barn kitty?  I think the owners said this cat is 13-14 years old, looks pretty good for an old fellow.

There’s something magical in a mountain of fallen leaves, so crisp and refreshing on a cool autumn day.

Then the snow start to pelt your head and you are quickly reminded that winter is on her way.

We had the earliest snow that I’ve seen since we’ve lived up here – October 12th!

Of course, it didn’t stick around, thankfully!

And it did provide some interest for a few photos.

I see this pink elephant along I-39 every time we travel south a bit, but have never stopped to take a photo. He faces the interstate, but as you can see, we stopped behind him, so I still haven’t got a front shot. *sigh* Can you see he’s wearing glasses? And no, I haven’t been drinking, I actually saw a pink elephant, wearing glasses.

Cheese curds are very popular here in Wisconsin and we’d like them fried please. This truck just cracked me. I spotted him at the Neekoosa Giant Pumpkin Festival last month. And while I didn’t eat curds there, I did find some yummy chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick.

They had a few big pumpkins. They all got weighed, I can’t remember exactly what the winner weighed but I think it was around 1100 lbs! Last year’s was over 1400 lbs!

Any idea how hard it is to snap photos of bubbles being blown while zooming doing the river on a pirate ship?  It’s the ship you see wacky reflections of.

I am surprised to see that my roses are still putting on buds!

Not only putting on buds, but also blooming!  This seems unusual to me, although this is the first year we’ve had roses in Wisconsin.

Many hopefully buds – I have this feeling they are going to get nipped my frost!

I will miss the blooms of summer, good thing I took a few photos to remind me during our white out.

It’s been pretty wet here lately, pretty on the leaves, but tiring on my head, lol.

Monday (Nov 2nd) I have emailed everyone with their partner’s information. It will probably be Tuesday before I have a chance to sit down and start emailing people with their partners information. If you have not heard from me by Wednesday evening please contact me.

If you’re looking for ideas about what kind of ornament to send I would suggest something that signifies your state. I love getting ornaments from other states, like this lobster we picked up in Maine this year. Won’t he be smashing on our tree?!

Or, maybe you can find something that signifies your partner’s hobby? I just chanced upon this cute camera at a rest stop on our way to the Quad cities for a wedding. They only had one or I would have bought more.

Or, maybe you want to ask your swap buddy what kind of ornaments they like. Maybe they have ideas of santas, snowmen, bears, angels. . .

Don’t forget we all need to be ready to mail out our packages by November 14th!  And most of all – Have fun!

Trick or Treat!

I figured you might need a break from creepy crawlies – sorry to those of you who don’t like bugs that I forced you to peer closely at a wooly worm on Monday, and a spider and moth on Wednesday – oops. lol

When I want to get out in the woods, but don’t have a lot of time, I just walk across the street and walk the path there.

There are many raspberries in the summer and we have a freezer full now.

The only competition was the deer, chipmunks and birds.

The dragonflies would land nearby but I don’t think they eat the berries.

As I walked into the clearing/playground I couldn’t resist the moon’s pull.

Then a bluebird drew my attention momentarily.

On the way to take my berries inside I spied a spider and her eggs.

Yummy!

October 8th:

Two weeks later and the leaves have changed. I wanted to show the sky that we get to see so many months of the year. In fact, this sky has more blue in it. Most of our winter is spent with white skies and ground.

This is a view towards the road from the side of our house. The trees leaves are now gone, and the bush is totally red and losing leaves every day.

They sure were beautiful the short time they were here. This is the large tree in our back yard, it’s always so bright towering over our home.

And I always love the color of the leaves against the white bark – the background has kind of lines – that was snow pelting me while I snapped.

I just loved this rock wall – from our trip to Washington Island earlier this month.

And we enjoyed walking this road while on the island. Fall was SO short here!

October 27th:

Twister and I walked the path to the park, he has the raspberry bushes on either side of him, as you can see they’re done too. You can’t see many trees, but trust me, all leaves are gone.

We had a day of sunshine and warmth – I think it was in the 40s, lol – so we took advantage of it.

On our trek back home we discovered this nest, funny that it must have been there, right across the road from my home, all summer and I never knew it was there, until the leaves fell.

After we got home Twister put the eyes, nose, and mouth on this little pumpkin for his mom and dad. He did it all by himself; I did not hold his hand.  I think he did very good!   He’s only 2 years old. Such a big boy! Now if he’d only talk to me.

BOO!

I’ve already had enough of winter, can spring start today? lol
