If a picture is worth a thousand words, think of what can be conveyed with a photo collage?

I blogged over at The Lilypad today about storytelling using photo collages, which is something that I love to do. I gave examples of my own scrapbooking, and pulled some examples from The Lilypad gallery as well. I also gave resources on computer programs and apps that you can use to make collages. Get Crafty with Amy Tan Class at Paper Tales

On Saturday (5/19) I had the pleasure of attending my first real life scrapbooking class taught by Amy Tan (Amy Tangerine). I was very excited for several reasons. I actually had never been to Paper Tales, a local scrapbook store in San Diego (Point Loma). I had heard great things about it and was excited to check it out. I was also excited to be taking a scrapbooking class live in person. And I was excited to meet some local girls who love scrapbooking as much as I do! :)

The day before, I gathered my tools for bringing to class.

Upon arriving, Amy greeted me with a warm hug. We each got a kit bag full of awesome goodies. This photo was taken by Amy.

This was my bag. The green chevron bag had tons of taffy and smartie candy in it! How sweet is that?? :)

Opened up my baggie to spread my stuff out onto the table.

There were eight people in class. We each got half a long table to spread our stuff out. I loved how much space we got to work on our projects. Amy and her mom even brought waters for everyone.

We worked on two layouts at the same time. I had never done that before! I have to say that I loved it. I brought enough pictures to scrap two layouts and get a good start on my mini book. The class was three hours and I felt so productive. I had never scrapbooked 2 pages plus get a start on a mini book in three hours before. Plus, we took time out to socialize, chat, and goof around a bit.

And we took time to take photos, of course! Here’s one of me and Amy.

“Mommy” helped put the class kit together and walked around to make sure we knew what we were doing with the embroidery needle and thread. (Yes, we got to hand-sew on pages!)

I met the wonderful Caz Hancock (whom I know from Studio Calico), who was there all the way from New Zealand! Well, she was on an almost three week vacation to SoCal, but I like to say she came just for the class, LOL.

I also met quite a few other local gals. This is Heidi.

We got to play with Amy’s infamous washi tape collection.

And she later emailed us the photo also.

I love it! Each of us holding up our projects.

The three hours went by so quickly. When it was over, I said goodbye to everyone (sniff) and went shopping inside Paper Tales. On the day of class, you get a 10% discount on everything you purchase. Here’s what I got.

Todd had spent the morning at a Toastmasters Conference at the Catamaran resort. We met up at Phil’s BBQ for a late lunch!

I had trouble finding it and got lost, even though it was only like a mile away! But Todd already got seats in the bar area and ordered our food (he knows what I like there), so my food had just arrived when I finally got there! So awesome to have such a great husband! :)

The first time we went there the line was that long and we waited over 1.5 hours to get in. We were lucky to grab some bar seats in the bar area this time.

After I got home, I put the finishing touches on my layouts. I machine-stitched and added a little more embellies.

I dabbed ink on the wood veneer heart and then covered it with Glossy Accents.

And my mini book, which I still have to add some photos and finish up. I loved the stitching technique that Amy taught us in class, to bind this mini book pages together.

I had so much fun in class. I loved meeting everyone. I loved how I learned to hand-sew on layouts and to hand stitch mini book pages together. I loved how productive I was in class, despite lots of socializing and goofing off. I loved everything about it and would definitely take another live class with Amy Tan again when she comes down to San Diego. This was such an awesome experience! ♥

2012 Project Life | Week 19

I’m taking today and tomorrow off work, so my 5-day weekend begun! It began last night with dinner at a Mexican restaurant with an old friend. So happy to get my weekend started! Although, first thing this morning I had a dentist appointment, ick. Upside is my teeth are doing great. Another upside is I treated myself to Starbucks afterwards. I’m not a frequent Starbucks visitor, so it really was a treat. And I got some beauty products at Target. I’m behind in blogging about my everyday life again. It’s kind of what happens when you work all day and you have social plans in the evenings. But that’s a good thing. :) Oh and I will be blogging about the Amy Tan class I went to at Paper Tales soon!

Project Life Week 19 was an experiment in “Speed Scrap” Project Life. It was Monday night and I was worried about being behind about two weeks in Project Life. I wanted to get one week done quickly. So I came up with the idea of timing myself from start to finish, and trying to get it done as fast as I can, while maintaining my style. From start to finish, it took me 2 hours and 58 minutes, so we’ll round off to 3 hours. (This includes picking out photos and printing them out, but that part only took 39 minutes.) I guess that’s as fast as I can put a two-page Project Life spread together! I even used some pre-stamped and pre-sewn journal cards. But I guess 3 hours isn’t too bad. And since I was able to get a week of Project Life done in 3 hours on a week night after work, I feel more confident and less stressed about getting behind. :)

Week 19

This week’s title page came from the Clementine Core Kit. I added some stamping, a strip fo cameras from a AC Amy Tangerine paper, and some Thickers alpha stickers. (Supplies are linked at the end of the post.)

On NSD I happen to get my huge box of scrappy supplies from Stop And Scrap. Good timing! Background paper from Echo Park’s Note To Self 6x6 paper pad.

The left is just a filler card from the Clementine core kit, but I love the colors of the dots! The right is a grid card stamped with a cassette tape stamp that I hand-carved myself.

AVENGERS assemble! LOVED this movie. Like, super-duper loved it. I was so hyped about it after seeing Ironman, Thor, and Captain America, but it exceeded my expectations even.

I caught a couple of photos of Noodle that were so funny. For this slot I just printed both photos on a 4x6 photo paper, and stapled a print & cut ticket that I made myself. Then I wrote on it with a Slick Writer. Super-easy and time-saving.

We finally got our Canon 28mm F/1.8 lens and we love it! I had already sewn the border on this journal card a few weeks ago in my journal card mass-production session. So I just adhered the photos, stuck a Martha Stewart file label and October Afternoon badge on there and it’s done!

The “too cool” whale stamp was in the $1 bin at Michaels. Getting my Studio Calico box is one of the best days of the month!

Lunch with my favorite friend Meera. I love her to pieces. I used some Jenni Bowlin Chewing gum ink on the Studio Calico wood veneer people and adhered onto the page with glue dots.

I got to thinking about Todd and I and our relationship this morning while he went on a 40 mile bike ride and I stayed home to get some things done. I got sentimental!

Sometimes you get to thinking about being together with someone for a very long time, a lifetime. Todd and I always reminisce about our first kiss. We love the memory and feeling of it, but we also know that it could never be duplicated again. But I love the security and comfort of being with my long-time love. It is something I appreciate every single day. I can be myself and never fear about what he thinks about what I say or do, because he always loves me. And that we can meet up at a restaurant after doing our separate things, and I can be late and he knows exactly what I always order there, and the food is there right when I arrive. I ♥ him and our relationship. While we may never be able to duplicate The First Kiss again, I relish the comfort and security MORE. It's like an old pair of jeans, but 100000000% better.

2012 Project Life | Week 18

Wow, Week 18 in 2012 already gone by? I’m kind of astounded actually how fast this year has flown by. And as time has gone by, I have felt less and less anxious about Project Life perfection. Honestly, sometimes I just grab stuff and use it, LOL. Oh and I used my new Canon 28mm F/1.8 lens to photograph my album this week. I think this lens will work out! :p

Week 18

Left side: We went to Todd’s Toastmasters Division speech contest. Todd competed in speech against 4 other people. This time he didn’t win, but he did really well. I’m biased, but I feel he was robbed! :) Todd’s coworker and fellow Toastmaster Victoria won the Table Topics contest. We went to lunch together afterwards. There’s lots of snuggling with Noodle photos, because he’s just that snuggly. And those of you commenting that he looks soft? His fur is really soft!

For this week’s title page, I went kind of simple. I punched a border with my Fiskars punch and adhered it. Heat embossed the Amy Tangerine camera stamp with white Zing powder. Some paint, some washi, some red foam Thickers, and a stamp and cutout of “Week” and it was done.

Stamped the cat and the “meow”. Love that little kitty! (Link to stamp set is at the end of the post.)

Journaling about Todd’s speech contest. A few stamps, a label, and some tape on these cards and I was done!

Some Instagram photos. First is my crafting stash I found at the 99 Cent Store. The photo on the right are the pens that I ordered from Jetpens. Funny story about that photo is that I posted it to their Facebook page and won their photo contest, so they gave me a $10 GC to get more pens! I may have a pen addiction problem… but you know, even making a to-do list at work seems more fun if you’re using pink glitter pen.

Right side: our Food Club went to Pomegranate Russian Restaurant and we had Russian-Georgian food for the first time! I went to physical therapy for my right IT band (a recurring running injury) and the therapist taught me some exercises to do at home. Yes, I made him take a photo of me for my PL album.

Journaling about food club. I used Duality Journal Cards by my friend Peppermint Granberg Jones of One Little Bird. I love how the peach color goes perfectly with my food photos. BUT, these are layered Photoshop files and therefore customizable, so you could make these any color you want. And I changed the original text in the circle to say “Food Club”. Fully customizable journal cards rock!

Journaling about my physical therapy session.

I bought and downloaded the Momento app for my iPod. It was absolutely worth $2.99. I did a screenshot and printed it out on photo paper. Momento slurps your online social media stuff into one place and organizes it by day. You can look at the calendar and pick a day and read all your FB, Twitter, Instagram, and blog updates on that day. On the right is an Instagram photo of my chevron afghan I’m working on. In this photo I’ve got cream and orange rows. Since then I have added gray and light blue rows too.

This was probably my favorite slot in this week’s Project Life. May 4th was the launch party of the Everyday Storyteller book. I’m one of 33 contributors to the book and my topic was Taking Stories from Blog to Page. (Other contributors include Amy Tan, Elise Blaha, Elle Price, Jessica Sprague, Sara Gleason, CD Muckosky, just to name a few. Now I totally want to bow down and repeat “I’m not worthy” over and over again.)

I just love the idea of a wishing jar full of stars. I took the star theme and added some wood veneer stars from Studio Calico. I love how the stars flow from the paper jar onto the wood stars. I tied the jar lid area with some brown twine. I used some light blue washi tape under my photo, sort of like a mat/frame underneath.

I added one 8.5x11 insert this week to keep Todd’s Toastmasters speech contest certificate.

On the back I put the program of the event.

Life is speeding along. I love that I can look back on my album and re-live it! :)

Crafting Calling Cards

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I signed up for a real-life scrapbooking class with Amy Tangerine at a local scrapbooking store, Paper Tales. I’m excited for the class, and I’m excited to meet some local scrapbookers who share my love of this hobby!

Meeting new people can be a little bit scary and awkward though. I wanted to make the process as painless and low-risk as possible. So I came up with the idea of a personal crafting calling card. Some cute calling cards with my contact information to give out to people I meet whom I seem to get along with, and would want to be friends with. It’s pretty low risk. I give out the card and if they want to come to my blog, email me, or contact me on Twitter or Instagram, they totally could! And I won’t be heart-broken if they don’t. :D

So I designed these crafting calling cards in Photoshop, using my digital stash from The Lilypad.

And I got them printed at Moo.com, because I had heard they have high-quality thick cards, and they allow you to print as many different cards as you would like in your card package.

A week later, I got them in the mail.

They are every bit as cute as I had imagined they would be! Here are my six different cards all laid out. The back of each card has my little headshot, the “I craft”, and my contact info.

San Diego in Two Hours

Yesterday I had so much fun enjoying the San Diego sunshine and scenery within a two hour timeframe!

In late morning we drove down to Liberty Station at Point Loma for a run. This was our starting point.

I ran along Harbor Drive and saw boats at the marina.

These old pink Nikes have 260 miles on them now…

I ran by the airport.

I ran by Harbor Island.

I ran by the Gator By The Bay zydeco festival.

Where there was a hoedown.

Other live music.

And lots of food.

I stretched midway through my run.

More great scenery on the way back.

I ended up running a little over 4 miles. Todd had already changed and was waiting for me at the Asian Cultural Festival at Liberty Station. I totally didn't realize that he brought this shirt to change into after running yesterday. At the Asian Cultural Festival. Yea. Can't bring him anywhere! :p

So we headed down the street to Point Loma Seafoods, our favorite seafood restaurant in San Diego. Upon arriving, we realized that the re-construction had finished and they had moved into their beautiful bigger building!

We both had the fresh halibut sandwich because it is SO good it’s hard to resist. But I ate it without the bread.

So we saw a lot of scenic San Diego in two hours. :)

In the evening, we went to Chile Peppers with our friends Anne and Gilbert. They had given Todd a certificate for a Chile Peppers meal on his birthday, and we finally got around to redeeming it.

Dinner with friends is about the best thing in the world.

I Wonder Why I’m Exhausted?

This past week was super-busy at work. On top of that, I didn’t get very much sleep because of Noodle, so I feel totally exhausted. Last week I got a couple of blog comments from friends who said they’re trying to figure out when I slept, because of all the stuff I do. My reply was that I actually do get about 7 hours of sleep per night on average. That promptly jinxed me. This past week, Noodle woke us up around 5:00am with incessant meowing and pawing at the door almost every day. I’m kind of thinking that it might be the fact that we’re getting daylight so much earlier now and he got confused. Nevertheless, I’m a light sleeper and once waken, I’m not able to fall back asleep. :( Noodle’s training started Thursday. Today was the first day he let us sleep until 7:30am.

Of course, there were other things keeping me occupied and tired during the week, besides work.

On Monday my new 28mm F/1.8 lens came.

She’s a beauty. Here she is, on the camera.

The reason I wanted a 28mm prime lens is because I LOVE my 50mm prime lens, but it’s very difficult to shoot with it inside the house. When I take food photos or craft project photos, I have to step WAAAAAY back with the 50mm lens. For example, in order to take my Project Life page photos to blog about them, I have to put my album on the ground and climb up on top of a bench and shoot straight down. Now with the 28mm lens I can easily take close-up photos of things without having to step way back. But you ask, don’t you have a zoom lens? I do have a 28-135mm zoom lens, but I find that I can’t get crisp clear shots with it when zoomed, without a tripod. I also find it does not perform as well under low light conditions as the prime lens.

So what were some of the first photos I took with the 28mm F/1.8 lens?

Food of course.

And Noodle.

One other reason I love this 28mm lens? I’m able to take photos of my craft table now. My craft studio is small so I couldn’t take photos of the table before, because I had no room to step back with the 50mm lens.

Tuesday was a super-busy day at work. Not only did I have a 3-hour conference call, I had to review a bunch of numbers for the month. By 10:00am, I was having my second cup of coffee. Sigh. Two cups is my limit though.

On Wednesday morning I got the sweetest surprise in the mail. I had gotten to know Jenn Smith-Sloane over the past few months because we are both contributors in the Everyday Storyteller book. A couple of weeks ago, I had commented on a layout on her blog how I loved the stamp that she used, and I had asked her where she got it from. So I opened up a package that I wasn’t expecting on Wednesday morning and it was this.

It was generous and thoughtful, and such a surprise! Thanks Jenn!

Also on Wednesday, Noodle found a new place to hang out. He’s never hung out on the papasan chair in our bedroom before. It’s full of blankets and clothes, and my stuffed animals. I thought he was trying for an ET imitation.

I got this Dear Lizzy paper in my Two Peas box last weekend. I love it so much, I want to buy a few more sheets!

I cut out one of the jars to use in my Project Life Week 18 (to be blogged soon).

I found these glass sugar jars for 99 cents at the 99 Cent store the other day. I put my twine in there. The holes at the top are perfect for dispensing twine!

On Thursday morning I got up extra early because Noodle woke us up. So I crocheted. I got the blue on there now and all the colors are on the chevron afghan now.

I got some new Eastland clogs. They’re red. I didn’t like them at first because they made my feet look huge. But they are so comfortable that I’m able to overlook the duck feet. I even wore them to work.

I take 5 minute breaks at work a few times a day and I walk during that time. I can usually squeeze in a mile per day when I do this. This is my work courtyard where I walk.

Also on Thursday, my Studio Calico box came. I was pretty excited to rip it open, because I love this month’s kit, 35mm. I bought some other stuff too.

On Friday I got to have a late lunch with one of my favorite friends, Meera.

And then 2.5 hours later, we had dinner with Pete and Cassandra and their family at Smashburger.

In the evening I cleaned up and put away all the stuff on my craft work table, including the box from Studio Calico.

Which included these POW glitter papers that I love. They don’t rub off whatsoever and they cut like butter in the Silhouette.

And I organized all my Studio Calico wood veneers into compartments in a box.

It was an exhausting week.

Last Weekend

I have been so busy this week at work that I haven’t had time to catch up on blogging about last weekend. This week went by like a whirlwind. Well, more like a tornado. (Or are they one and the same?)

Last Friday night (5/4) was the launch party of the Everyday Storyteller book, of which I’m one of 33 contributors.

I came home from work, then spent the next couple of hours chatting with over 500 scrapbookers at the online launch party. It was really awesome. While I was chatting away, Noodle climbed up on Todd and the two of them stayed near me.

On Saturday 5/5 it was National Scrapbooking Day. I forgot to tell Todd, so he got us tickets for the 10:20am showing of the “Avengers” movie.

This was totally fine with me, because I had been looking forward to this movie for a long time. I have seen both Ironman movies, and Thor, and Captain America. Marvel Studios has done a great job planning ahead by introducing these characters in each of their own movies. I’ve loved all of them, so I had high expectations of The Avengers.

Even with my high expectations, the movie was better than I had imagined it would be! It was just really incredible, both action scenes and character development. It’s exactly what a superhero movie should be. LOVED it.

After the movie, we grabbed a quick bite at Panera. I’m still trying to cut back on carbs, so I had an Asian chicken salad.

After Panera, we went running at the lake. I ran 5 miles and felt pretty good.

It was really hot so after running, we went over to get some shave ice from Wahini Kai. Todd got a pink lemonade shave ice with vanilla ice cream and azuki beans in the middle. I had a few bites. :p

I came home and it was dinner time and I hadn’t scrapbooked at all on National Scrapbooking Day. But my order from Two Peas came on NSD and I was a happy camper.

I got some AC Amy Tangerine Sketchbook, some Studio Calico, and some Echo Park Note To Self.

On Sunday (5/6) I got a lot of stuff done. Backed up my blog and stuff from my Momento app. Uploaded and processed a ton of photos. Picked out photos for Project Life weeks 17 and 18. Vacuumed the whole house (take me an hour). Paid bills. We watched the new Sherlock Holmes on Masterpiece Theater on PBS and it was so awesome! Todd had watched the first season last year by himself. Now I want to go back and watch those as well.

I caught a few funny photos of Noodle on Sunday, while we were playing with his mice.

The caption on this one was “Is there a pink mouse on me? I'm a ferocious hunter.”

2012 Project Life | Week 17

Last week my friend Jenn told me that my Project Life pages are very bright. I didn't really realize it before. But she's right. I like colors, and I'm not afraid to use it. Although, this week I may have gone overboard, especially on the right side of the page. After I finished it, I told my husband Todd that the right side looks a bit garish. I was tempted to re-do the slot with the green patterned paper, because it is so bright. But I'm the one who has written about not being a perfectionist and keeping it simple, getting it done, etc. I decided to just be done, leave it alone, and show it to you as an example of being okay with imperfection, LOL.

This week I have some Instagram photos, along with a photo collage. So I printed them on a sheet of 8.5x11 photo paper.

And then I trimmed them. This is actually a photo of the photos laying on my desk. I used the apps Pixlr-o-matic and LINE Camera to create this photo.

On to Week 17:

Left side. We went to the Taste of Hillcrest and tried out bites from 26 different restaurants! I got to visit Sally and her new twin babies. I got a haircut.

Just a simple week title page this week. Had an extra photo of Noodle laying on Todd's lap.

The journal card on the right are Duality customizable journal cards (digital) by my friend Peppermint Granberg of One Little Bird. I journaled around the circle with a pen.

This side was all about the Taste of Hillcrest. The journal cards are Shifted journal cards (digital) by Robyn Meierotto. I thought the colors really went well with my photos.

Speaking of journal cards, I printed out all of them onto a sheet of 8.5x11 matte photo paper and trimmed them. Some are for Week 18.

Right side. (Otherwise known as the slightly-garish-side.) :p We went running at the lake, and I had a "protein-style" In-N-Out burger for the first time. No bun! I started drinking chocolate chai tea with soy milk in the afternoons at work, because it's caffeine-free. I carved a cassette tape stamp. I found some washi tape at Target. I started to crochet a chevron afghan. We took a day off and went to breakfast in Hillcrest.

This is the brightly colored, slightly garish slot. Oh well, it's done, ha ha.

I made this "polaroid" frame by punching a square with my Marvy Uchida square punch. Then I trimmed around it. Super-easy!

The "today" is from a new stamp set by Studio Calico called Oh Happy Day. I stamped onto white cardstock first, then used my Martha Stewart starburst punch and punched them out and adhered them onto my page. I really like how it looks! I had this 4x6 journal card with the border sewn on ready to go, from when I had my journal card mass-production session.

The journal card on the ride side is also from the journal card mass-production session. The stamps were from the April Studio Calico kit.

I made a 8.5x11 insert with all the food that we ate at the Taste of Hillcrest.

When you look at the insert, it's right next to the journaling and other photos from the same event.

The back has the map and list of all the participating restaurants and our punch tickets for the event.

I ran 35 miles. So far in 2012 I’ve run 144 miles, so I’m on track with my 366 mile goal for the year. The key is I make sure I get at least 7 miles in per week, no matter how much it’s spread out. I try to run 3 days a week.
On top of running, I walked 13 miles. That’s pretty cool because the 13 miles consists of taking small 5 minute walking breaks at work, in between tasks!
I spent 12 hours and 59 minutes exercising. My least number of hours in a month so far in 2012.
We cooked 21 meals at home! Wow, that’s a record so far in 2012!
I lost two pounds. I’m quite certain eating healthy home-cooked meals had something to do with it. Cutting back sugar and carbs also had something to do with it. My first month after the epiphany has been successful!
We took 566 photos.
I didn’t read as much as I would have liked. I started “The Help” but haven’t made much progress. I might have been too busy crafting!
I started carving my own stamps.
I used the sketch function on my Silhouette for the first time. It totally rocks!
Movies watched: the last 1/3 of “Bridesmaids”, “Hugo”, and “The Descendants”. Loved “The Descendants”!
I journaled online daily at Oh Life 30 times. Haven’t missed a day this year.
I journaled in my Moleskine daily planner 30 times.
I went to a physical therapist that specializes in running. He videotaped me running and evaluated my gait. I have had sore IT band problems since October 2010. He assigned me exercises to do to improve my coordination and strength.
I finished four more weeks of Project Life in my album.
We had Russian-Georgian food for the first time ever.
I visited Sally and her new twin babies.
Todd made it to the Northern Division Toastmasters Speech Contest, but didn’t win this time. He was awesome. He was robbed!
I finished our 2011 taxes and filed it.
We visited my dad and Shelly and checked out my dad’s revamped garden. He sure has a green thumb!
We saw Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band at Anthology.
I dyed my hair, and got a haircut, not on the same day.
I went on a Project Life journal card making frenzy.
We sampled food from 26 restaurants at the Taste of Hillcrest.
I started using Instagram a lot more than I had been.
We took a day off and had breakfast at Crest Café, went to Buffalo Exchange, and generally had a lot of fun.
I started crocheting a chevron afghan.
I started drinking tea in the afternoons at work.
I wondered how time can fly this fast in 2012. :p

Food Club | Pomegranate Russian

What’s Food Club? Well, the first rule of Food Club is we don’t talk about Food Club. Ha ha, just kidding! :p Food Club is just a bunch of us friends who are adventurous eaters. We want to eat our way around all the different world cuisines in San Diego. We meet up every few weeks and eat some food that are new to us.

Last Sunday 4/29 our Food Club met at Pomegranate Russian-Georgian Restaurant in North Park. None of us had ever had Russian food before, and this restaurant had a good recommendation from another friend, plus good Yelp reviews.

They had a wacky menu with funny descriptions and commentaries.

There was a four-salad sampler that we all got to try a little bit. I loved the beet salad!

Here we were. But Todd’s taking the picture so you can’t see him. And you also can’t see Ryan.

So we asked our waiter to take a photo of us. There, that’s better! Ryan, Shannon, me, Todd, Roby, Dejah, and Maria.

Todd and I shared all our food. We started out getting these Pelmeni, which were Siberian meat dumplings, garnished with yogurt-dill-garlic sauce. These were good!

Then for our main entrée, we shared the Chakhokhbili, which they dubbed the “Georgian Eagle”. This had large pieces of chicken simmered with onions, tomatoes, lemons, basil -- plus, of course, the chef's secret spices.

Almost everyone else got this: the Shashlik. Basically grilled meats. They didn’t have the lamb on Sunday so it was just pork loin and chicken.

For dessert, we shared the Babushka's Surprise: Baked apple filled with sweet fruits, walnuts and honey. The apple was actually marinated and quite tart, and provided a good contrast to the ice cream. Although, the sauce on the ice cream was tart too!

It was a really nice dinner! I was surprised that Russian-Georgian food was pretty good. (Don’t know why I was surprised, I just was.) And I really enjoyed the company and the social aspect of trying out new foods together with our friends. Long live Food Club! I think for our next adventure we’re going to try out some food trucks. Or we may go South American this time and try Peruvian. :)

Snippets of Life

I have blog posts planned every day this week. One of them was today, which is a random roundup of little snippets of our lives the last couple of weeks. Snippets that didn’t get blogged about, but moments or happenings that I want to remember. And the reason I remember these moments to blog about them, is because of my Everyday Storyteller blog hop tip. All these photos were put into my “Blog 2012” virtual collection at the time I processed them in Lightroom. So they’re all in there together. My photos, my stories. I ♥ that so much!

And tomorrow night is the Everyday Storyteller Launch Party with chat and giveaways, and the book goes on sale! You will NOT want to miss it! I’m so excited about it. I will be chatting, so I hope to “see” you there!

Sigh. I love this little guy. He always just wants to be close to us. When we’re in our office on our computers, he wants to be near us. So I set up a cat bed ON MY DESK and he gets to be there when I’m on the computer. Lucky cat. Lucky me.

I got a haircut.

I carved a new stamp. I feel like a teenager making mixtapes again! :)

I started crocheting a chevron afghan. These beginning rows are cream colored. But I’ve already done an orange row. The other colors will be light blue and gray.

I started drinking non-caffeinated chocolate chai tea with some soy milk in the afternoons at work. I love it.

I cannot wait for The Avengers. We got tickets for this Sunday!

My new order from Jetpens.com came. I’m in love with some of the pens and not others. I may have to write a pen-love update.

On weekends I love to get my colorful bowls and mugs out and use them for breakfast. Start out with a bright day!

We went running at Lake Miramar on Saturday late afternoon. It was a gloriously gorgeous day.

I’ve gone to physical therapy with the running therapy specialist twice now. I’m planning to do a blog post about that and running in general soon.

Lastly, I’m so excited about an upcoming event. For the first time ever, I’ll be attending a real life scrapbooking class! It is called “Get Crafty With Amy Tangerine” and is taught, obviously, by Amy Tan. I can’t wait to meet some real life scrapbookers whom I’ve “met” online. 2012 Project Life | Week 16

First of all, I want to thank you so much for the comments on my last Project Life post. I really appreciate hearing from you and it meant a lot to me! :)

I’ve actually had this done at the same time as Week 15, but haven’t had a chance to blog it. I’ve been working on a few projects. One of which is I wrote my 2nd installment of my quarterly articles about Project Life for My Scrapbook Art’s magazine, Home Is Where The Art Is.

Project Life Week 16.

Left page. We went to visit my dad and Shelly. Had Korean BBQ lunch with them, and toured my dad’s revamped garden. It looked fantastic!

Week 16 title slot. I used Amy Martin’s Cutting Files: Edged Borders SVG files from The Lilypad and cut the border out with my Silhouette. Then I sewed the border onto my 4x6 card from the Clementine Core Kit. The polaroid camera is a digital pack by Lauren Grier called Everyday Story Doodles.

Made a 4x6 photo collage in Adobe Lightroom of our visit to my dad’s house.

I carved some doily stamps, so I printed an Instagram photo of my stamp and then adhered it to a kraft & doily paper, hee hee. The quoted heart stamp with the “This Week” in it (in the second journal card) is one that I carved also. You can see my carved stamps here.

The typewriter, camera, and heart are also from Lauren Grier’s digital pack called Everyday Story Doodles. The border on the journal card on the right was a digital border that I traced in the Silhouette Studio software and had my machine sketch it out using a Sakura glitter pen! The bottom photo is a bunch of greeting cards I created using digital products from The Lilypad.

Right page. We went to see the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band at Anthology. Todd and I love to laugh at a LOLCATS joke about the cat shouting “You’re not my real mom!”. So I caught a photo of Noodle and captioned it as such. I dyed my hair. We had pizza after running at the beach.

On the left journal card I stamped on it with my hand-carved doily stamp, then I let it dry. Then I typed journaling in Photoshop and printed it out on the card. The right slot has a doily that I took from Anthology at dinner, LOL. An Instagram photo of my hair dye. The labels were print and cut with my Silhouette. Design was downloaded for free from Vanessa.

This side of the page was all about the Gordon Goodwin Big Band concert at Anthology.

Hitting The Crest

I’ve been too busy this week to blog about daily life things. I guess you could say I’ve been living life, which is a good thing. I have many blog posts planned this week, including a giveaway/blog hop, Project Life Week 16, a stuff-I’ve-been-cooking-and-eating-at-home-and-I’ve-lost-two-pounds post, and a couple more others. So this week will be quite busy on the listgirl blog! :)

This past Monday Todd and I took the day off work to hang out. We both have a lot of un-used time off at work. If we don’t take the days off, we lose future vacation time accruals because we’re bumping up against the maximum that we could accrue. So every month we take a couple of days off, usually Mondays. Because let’s face it, working from Tuesday to Friday is better than working from Monday to Friday! :p Until we can take a weeklong vacation off, we’ll always be bumping up against our max vacation accrual at work.

As per our new Monday off tradition, we drove down to Crest Café in Hillcrest for breakfast. We discovered it earlier this year after driving down to try Hash House A Go-Go and finding a huge wait there. We walked down the street to Crest Café and it was excellent! Our new favorite breakfast place.

I had the usual Hangover Omelette with potatoes. The omelette has pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, and chicken sausage inside. I shared the potatoes with Todd, and I only ate half the omelette and saved the other half for the next day. The best part about the omelette? The green chimichurri sauce on top. It is tangy and nutty and utterly delicious.

Instead of the banana walnut waffle, Todd got a blueberry waffle. He does not like eggs or cheese, so his breakfast favorites are sweet items and potatoes.

And because there hasn’t been a Todd Shot on the blog lately, here’s one for you!

After breakfast, we put more coins into the parking meter and walked over to our favorite thrift/used clothing store, Buffalo Exchange. This Buffalo Exchange location always has shirts that fit Todd’s slim figure. He tried on a couple and liked them, so we bought them.

And what would be an excursion to Hillcrest without going to Todd’s favorite bakery, Bread & Cie? The sweet choices were many.

As well as breads.

But Todd always gets their brownie, which is his favorite.

We walked around on 5th Ave because there’s cool buildings to look at.

And a new Urban Outfitters.

After Hillcrest, we stopped by Target on the way home because I needed hair conditioner. I looked in the stationary aisle near the Post-It notes, and what did I see? Washi tape. Four rolls for $4, so cheap! So I got some.

2012 Project Life | Week 15

I ended up doing Week 15 and Week 16 together this weekend, since I hadn’t done Week 15 yet. I actually like getting two weeks done at the same time, since it seems to take less time than doing each week individually. But two weeks is my limit in being “behind”. For 2012 I have not let myself get more than two weeks behind.

My Friday Frenzy mass production of Project Life journal cards really helped me with getting my two weeks of pages done.

Week 15

Todd had been sick with a cold but we finally got out for lunch and a walk around the lake, which was awesome. And I finished our 2011 taxes and filed it. One of my college degrees was in Accounting, but taxes were never my specialty. Nevertheless, I feel a sense of pride in doing our own taxes, even though nowadays it has gotten a lot more complicated. Thank goodness for Turbo Tax. (Which, by the way, is headquartered a couple of miles from our house!)

I used a week title page from the Clementine Core Kit. It had a gray and orange postal border, so I went with the same colors while scrapping it. The doily stamp is one that I carved myself. I used Jenni Bowlin dye ink in Weather Vane and Chicken Feed. “Life Is Good” stamp was from the $1 bin at Michaels.

We went out to dinner on Wednesday to celebrate finishing and filing our 2011 taxes, even though we owed money, LOL.

A Noodle page. The red stamped “love” is another one I carved myself. The “with love” strip is actually white on sketched gray washi tape!

Right page. I did a lot of crafting this week so a lot of the page was about that.

I’m trying to cut back on carbs and this grilled steak edamame salad was SO SO good! I created the semi-transparent banner in Photoshop and typed journaling on it before printing the photo out.

This was a funny photo of all the noodle I DIDN’T eat at the Vietnamese restaurant. They sure give you a TON of noodles!

A couple of journal cards to summarize our week. The left one I used the stamp I carved that looks like a piece of washi tape. The circle “TODAY” stamp is another one from Michaels $1 bin.

This section of the page is all about me taking up carving stamps. The ampersand journal card on the left is one I made using the 3x4 Project Life grid journal card, the Studio Calico ampersand mask, and some Mr Huey spray ink.

Some more crafty things I did in Week 15. I did a Print & Cut of a whole sheet of labels with my Sihouette. The top banner on this page was cut with Amy Martin’s Cutting Files: Edged Borders SVG files from The Lilypad. I upgraded my Silhouette Studio software to the Designer Edition so that I could open and work with SVG files.

Just a short note about comments. I’ve noticed that a lot of people visit my blog nowadays, and very few people comment. It’s a little bit discouraging to me when I spend a lot of time blogging about my projects and hardly anyone takes the time to comment, even though I see things pinned to Pinterest from my blog all the time. It doesn’t really encourage me to want to take the time to share my Project Life or other types of projects on my blog. It really takes me a lot of time to blog about these, and if you’re getting some sort of inspiration from it, or have any thoughts to share, it would be quite encouraging to me if you could take the time to leave a comment from time to time. I try to do the same in the blogosphere when I come upon something that I like. Because the author and content-provider spent the time to share, and she deserves some encouragement via comments. That is all. :)
