The Liturgical Choir's Concession Stand

Tomorrow is the first home football game here on campus and it also happens to be the day that the Liturgical Choir has its concession stand! Our stand will be located on the Southeast side of the library and will run from around 10:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. (or until we sell out)! We will be selling food, “The Shirt”, and CD’s! This week we are celebrating Holy Week! Here is a helpful image we compiled of all the Liturgies taking place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and their times!

The choir will be singing at:

Back from our tour to Austria & Prague!

The choir has returned from its trip singing Masses and concerts in
Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague!

It was also wonderful to have Fr. Peter Rocca, rector of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart
with us on tour.

In addition to singing, the choir also got the chance to explore the incredible culture – for a few of our choir members this was their first time abroad!

Fr. Hesburgh Memorial Concert

All are invited to attend the Fr. Hesburgh Memorial Concert to honor the one year anniversary of the passing of Notre Dame President Emeritus, Fr. Ted Hesburgh, C.S.C.

Music will be performed by the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir, The University of Notre Dame Folk Choir, The University of Notre Dame Celebration Choir, Notre Dame Basilica Schola, and Coro Primavera. The free concert will also be streamed online.

UMass Football Game Halftime Performance!

This Saturday, for the ND vs. UMass game, the Liturgical Choir will be having its final game day Concession Stand for this season! We will be located in front of O’Shaugnessy Hall. Come enjoy some refreshments, brats, and more to help support the choir as we fundraise for our upcoming tour to Prague & Austria!

We're going to Austria & Prague!

Dear Friends,
It is with great rejoicing that the University of Notre Dame Liturgical Choir will be embarking on a choir pilgrimage to Austria and the Czech Republic, March 4 – 12, 2016. We hope you can support us on this incredible journey as we sing at the beautiful churches and cathedrals of Salzburg, Vienna and Prague.

Our journey begins in Salzburg, we will enjoy a guided tour of the city’s sights, such as Monchsberg and Residenzplatz. As a special treat, we have received an invitation to sing for the Sunday Mass at the Salzburg Cathedral together with Salzburg Cathedral Choir.

In addition, our choir will also perform a recital at Melk Abbey. Next we will journey to Vienna, the Music Capital of the World and the city of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Strauss! We will visit the Hofburg Palace, the House of Parliament, City Hall and the Burgtheater. Our choir will present a concert at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna and sing for the evening Mass at St. Peter’s Church in Vienna.

Next we continue to Prague, the “City of 100 Spires” where we will visit the Charles Bridge, the Old Town, and the Prague Castle. We will present a concert at St. Nicholas Church on the Square and sing for the evening Mass at St.Vitus Cathedral in Prague.
A choir pilgrimage with us will be an especially meaningful one! We look forward to sharing our musical gifts with you during this remarkable and memorable trip

While we are blessed and looking forward to working with Patrick Kronner, our new assistant director, we want to thank Mary Catherine Levri for her incredible contribution to the Liturgical Choir.

Mary Catherine worked as assistant director to the choir since 2010 after having received her Master’s of Sacred Music at the University of Notre Dame. It truly is impossible to sum up all the ways she has contributed to the choir, which span beyond her conducting, singing, and accompanying. We will always remember her dedication to the Liturgical Choir and her leadership in its Chant Schola. Her humble character, scholarly approach, and kindness will always stay with us.

We wish Mary Catherine the best as she continues to pursue her Doctor of Musical Arts here at the University.

A warm welcome to our new assistant director!

Patrick Kronner, a native of Chesterfield, Michigan, is a candidate for the Doctorate of Music (organ and sacred music) at Indiana University where he studied with Dr. Janette Fishell. He received his Masters of Music from Indiana University and holds a Bachelor of Music from Oakland University.

In 2009, Patrick was awarded the Hollingsworth Fund Award and traveled to Herford, Germany, serving under Stefan Kagl as the assistant organist at Herforder Münsterkirche and studying at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Herford.

In 2013, Kronner returned to Herford to assist at the Cathedral and to concertize throughout Europe. The “virtuoso organist from Detroit thrilled… and surprised” (Mindener Tageblatt) audiences as he presented a dozen recitals of primarily American organ music. Highlights of the tour include the Martin-Luther-Kirche in Linz, Austria; the Grote Kerk in Emmen, Netherlands; and the Jocobi-Kirche in Göttingen, Germany.

His dissertation, Made in America: The Organ Works of Arthur Foote, will explore the organ works of this often-overlooked American composer. He began work in June as organist and choral program director at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame.

How thankful we are for the seniors of the 2014-2015 Liturgical Choir!
These members graduated from the University this past Sunday.

Among our seniors’ future plans are: heading on to Masters & PhD programs, teaching through ACE, working in professional jobs, as well as entering the religious life.

We are so proud of all their accomplishments and hope, regardless of their destination, that they continue to share their love of sacred song!
