The size of an onion! According to The Bump:

Baby’s skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes are now topped by one-of-a-kind prints.

Boy or girl: I’ve pretty much convinced myself that it’s a boy. I know that in the beginning I thought it was a girl and a part of me still thinks this baby is a little girl but if it’s a little boy I want to be prepared. And before I get any “as long as the baby is healthy comments”, I know! I wouldn’t want a baby girl over a healthy baby in general. I just know that it’s going to be a bit before I have anymore and I want a little girl while I’m still young

Currently craving: Salads, anything vinegar based (which reminded me that I really want some pickles).

Weight: gah. I weight 143. Which is 1lb more than I was when I first got pregnant with Mason. So I know it’s not that bad but it still stinks because I had lost so much weight and I just let myself gain it all back.

Belly button status: IN!

Sleep grade: A-. Mason has started sleeping more at night so I’m getting more sleep sort of but whenever I wake up I’m absolutely exhausted, like I didn’t sleep at all.

Recent Crazy Dream: The dreams this pregnancy have been out of control. I had a dream a couple of weeks ago that I posted a picture in my July 2012 Moms group of a sonogram that had two boys in it. Then this week I had a dream that I had the baby and B missed it. It was VERY clearly a girl, I even named her: Sarah. Sarah is my cousin’s name. But it’s also the name I used to use when I was in college and didn’t want some creeper knowing my real name. Don’t worry, Sarah doesn’t mind, in fact, she uses Christa lol. Anyway the name was very clear. B missed the birth because he was playing video games. Which doesn’t even make sense because he doesn’t even play video games but either way I walked up to him and was all “I had the baby, I named her Sarah” and some kid sitting next to him was like “the baby’s name is Sarah?” and he was like “I guess so”. That was pretty much the end of the dream. So now I’ve had two gender dreams. One of each. I guess this just shows how conflicted I really am.

Evidence of pregnancy brain: Nada.

How are you feeling?/Symptoms?: I’m still getting some morning sickness and it’s frustrating. By this point in my pregnancy with Mason morning sickness was long gone. BUT I’m still not throwing up at all. Dry heaving happens though. I’m also super tired and getting bad headaches. I’m also getting at least a pimple a week. With Mason my skin was so clear all the time. No pregnant woman glow here.

Any appointments?: None this week!

Any baby related purchases? No but I have been doing some window shopping! I really need some NB cloth diapers, I want some AppleCheeks Size 1 covers in Appletini, Lake Echo and Storm. I’ve also been browsing double strollers. Moms of 2+ do you have a suggestion for double strollers? What else have I been looking at? Oh yes, potential photographers for the birth and newborn sessions. I REALLY want a birth photographer.

Best thing to happen in the past week/ Worst: 4 days off in a row where we all just got to hang out and get some work done around the house. Worst is probably just feeling fat. I feel like I have no bump although that seems to have changed a little. I can easily feel my uterus now and it feels like one day last week I work and was like bam. uterus.

I still have not popped and I still look way more bump like with my clothes on. Especially maternity. This was was taken today (17 W 1 D) in a Target dressing room. I was trying on a Maternity shirt that was on sale for $10. I ended up getting it in case you were wondering

Sidenote: This was taken around 4ish? So by this time I was decently bloated. By the end of the day I look huge. I don’t remember such extreme bloating with Mason, especially not this far along!

Okay and another side note everything was written on my actual 17 weeks which was Wednesday except for my weight and the picture I took and talking about the picture. From now on I will try to get everything up on Wednesday, I worked all day yesterday so it was hard!

Can’t believe I’m only three weeks away from being half way done. This pregnancy has flown by!

Shortly after Mason was born people starting talking to me about how much better it would be during long car rides when Mason was forward facing. That he would enjoy the car rides more and it would be easier on me. As we neared his first birthday I started doing research about when I could forward face him and what car seats were the best of the best. With how much we travel safety was of the utmost importance.

I quickly began finding articles about why extended rear facing as far as your car seat safely allows is the best way to go.

Two things stuck out in my mind. The first

“Broken Legs Cast It! Broken Neck Casket”

This line is in response to people saying that rear facing their child looks so uncomfortable and that if they get into a car accident their legs will probably break.

This video further explains that line and is the 2nd thing that stuck out to me when deciding to rear face Mason for as long as possible.

Believe it or not I have gotten a lot of flack for this. People telling me that’s it’s not that big of a deal or the “when I was little argument” (which by the way is my favorite argument EVER). What’s the when I was little argument?

“when I was little I wasn’t rear-faced until I was four and I was just fine”

To those people I say. When you were little were you involved in a serious high speed accident? What was that? You weren’t? OH! Maybe THAT’S why you were okay!

Other people just ask me “when are you forward facing him?” My response to them is when he outgrows the weight limit for a rear facing car seat. Sometimes I follow up with “Why?” better known as “Why does it matter and why do you care?”.

For me especially since I do a lot of highway traveling safety is my top priority. With my previous toddler car seat although it was good it wasn’t living up to my standards. It loosened easily and was hot and sweaty during the summer. After doing research, reading reviews and thinking about my standards of rear facing I decided that I wanted a Diono.

Why?

High performance birth to booster car seat from 5 to 120 lbs. Convertible 5 – 80 lbs, then booster to 120 lbs.

1. It rear faces up to 45lbs.

2. It’s smaller width wise than the average car seat so you can fit three in a row. This is unheard of with other car seats.

3. Not only does it rear face up to 45lbs but it can also accommodate an infant (starting at 5lbs). This makes it worth every penny!

And a entirely superficial one

I loved the color choices. They are so vibrant and fun!

When I teamed up with Diono on a review and got it in the mail I discovered even more reasons I loved it:

3. The fabric doesn’t make Mason all sweaty.

4. The fabric is easily wipe-able which is really important considering the fact that Mason gets car sick a lot.

5. It’s heavy. It FELT sturdy and once it’s buckled into place (I don’t have a latch system in my car) it doesn’t move.

6. It’s easy to travel with. You can wear it like a back pack through the airport if you need too.

7. Installation was beyond easy. Snap it open. Attach the rear facing attachment, thread the seat belt through the base and buckle it in. It can’t get much easier than that!

Luckily Mason loves his car seat just as much as I do! The little man has already put the fabric to the test by puking on it two days after we got it. The fabric was easy to clean the buckle wasn’t as easy to clean but I expected that as most are.

In honor of Mason’s 2nd Birthday and continuing to keep him rear faced Little BGCG is hosting a giveaway of a Diono car seat to one of my lucky readers thanks of course to the wonderful people at Diono.

Recipe posts have been MIA lately, don’t know why? You must have missed this post.

With Mason I craved sweets like a manic. With this baby not as much but baking is still very calming for me and I love making stuff that B and Mase enjoy so when my July Moms group started talking about Banana bread, I started thinking about how I need to get some Bananas and then fate stepped in. Two days after talking about Banana Bread in my July 2012 Moms group My neighbor who works at a local school stopped by with a bag full of over ripe bananas that the school was throwing away (don’t even get me started on the fact that they through away the over ripe bananas instead of doing something like making banana bread or donating to a local food shelter). Any way, that was that, it was FATE for me to make Banana Bread!

I switched things up to make *my perfect banana bread* of course!

The first step is to take 6 over ripe bananas and mash them:

Next combine 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup shortening in a large bowl.

Add each egg one at a time beating after each addition!

After adding each egg one at a time add the two tablespoons of mayonnaise and combine

Then add one tablespoon of vanilla!

In a separate bowl combine the dry ingredients, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.

Mix the dry ingredients together and then slowly add it to the banana mixture

Then get the cutest toddler you know to help you mix in the chocolate chips!

I wanted to make both bread and muffins so I greased a loaf pan AND a muffin pan and added batter to both

Pop in the oven at 350 degrees for 50-75 minutes for the loaf pan and 20-25 minutes for the muffins!

To check if it’s done insert a tooth pick into the middle, if it comes out clean you’re good to go!

They were SO yummy, Mason and B were huge fans too!

Baby #2 is due in July of 2012!!!

How cute is that shirt?! As soon as I saw it I knew it was perfect for Mason. He is the king of this household and his first animal sound was a lion roaring so I knew it was beyond perfect! It’s from Etsy, the shop is Heather Roger’s Designs. She has the cutest pregnancy announcement shirts for siblings! Right now she has some adorable seasonal shirts for sale too! I want it all

The title of this post was almost Jinxed! Why? Because I wrote TWO posts in the couple of months before I got pregnant about how B and I were not ready to have another. You can laugh at me about that here and here. The 2nd one is especially funny because I was pregnant and didn’t know it yet! Good times.

Okay so let’s see. I had an early dating sonogram that put me at July 20th. According to online calculators and the first day of my last period my EDD is July 23rd. According to one of my Midwives wheels my EDD is July 26th. I however think that’s a little too late for various reasons the main one being I’m pretty positive of the date “it” happened and since conception should have been too far behind that I’m going with closer to a July 20th-July 23rd range.

But for the sake of keeping on track with my Midwife Rugrat #2s EDD is July 26th 2012. Rugrat will be almost exactly 2 1/2 years younger than Mason. I think it’s the perfect age gap!

With an EDD of July 26th that puts me at 16 Weeks 2 days today!

I have SO much catching up to do for you guys! I’ve been doing a bunch of old wives tales to determine the gender AND I even did Intelligender. I will have a review and giveaway for Intelligender up ASAP. And every week I will cover a different old wives tale BUT be prepared you won’t know the answer in just four short weeks instead you will find out in July because this time around we are

What else is different this time around?

I’m ditching my OBs and going with a midwife. I’ll also be delivering at her Birth Center NOT at the hospital. More on that topic in a later post!

And now I’ll leave you with a “bump” picture. With clothes on, especially maternity clothes a bump is visible. With my clothes off I’d call it more of a blump. Or probably even fat lol. But even so, here’s a picture taken today!

24 weeks to go!

While Mason and I watched the Superbowl I sat at the kitchen table and put to good use some of the many Mason jars that we own! I made some really cute Valentine’s Day theme votive jars!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Jars of varying sizes

Mod Podge

Red and White Tissue Paper (I got Valentine themed tissue paper at Dollar Tree)

Heart Shape or the ability to cut a heart

Paintbrush (not pictured)

Scissors (not pictured)

This project can not be any easier and Mason loved “painting” with the glue.

Tear your tissue paper into pieces

Then cut out your heart shapes so that everything is ready!

Using your paint brush brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the jar where you want to put the tissue paper. Place the tissue paper on the glue and paint another thin layer over the top. I found that if I painted the bottom with glue, then placed the tissue paper and painted over it again it helped the tissue paper not get too bunched up and crinkled.

Repeat until the entire jar is covered with the tissue paper. Then move onto your next jar and switch the colors. White on the bottom red hearts on top.

Let each dry a little before placing the hearts on top.

Once you have all your hearts where you want them let them dry completely. Once they are dry you can place tea lights inside of them!

Aren’t they adorable?! I keep them in the center of my kitchen table and I’ll bust them out next year. I’m thinking about making some more for different areas of the house. Easy and cute. You can’t beat that!

The other day I came home from work and B told me that Mason had a huge pimple/blister near the top of his butt. I had seen it there before but just assumed it was a pimple that would go away. But apparently it didn’t go away, it just got worse. B said Mase kept telling him “butt hurt” and he wouldn’t even sit down on it and B had to teach him how to lie on his side when he went to sleep. I felt so bad for my little man.

An hour after I came home he was up and crying. I went over to him and he just said to me “Mama butt hurt”. I rocked him back to sleep and instantly realized that he had a fever. I knew without a doubt I had to bring him to the doctor in the morning. After consulting with one of my Mom’s groups and doing some googling we concluded that it must be a staph infection. The next day we made an appointment and went in. Sure enough it was a Staph Infection.

The doctor wrote me a prescription and sent us on our way. Shortly after it occurred to me that we didn’t really have a certain place that we went for our prescriptions. When I was back in NY one of the places that we would often go is Walgreens. We have a large family and Walgreens has the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. For $35 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including your pets! If it’s just you the Savings club is only $20. It gives you savings on brand name and generic medications, discounts and bonuses for buying Walgreens brand and using their photo finishing services.

Unfortunately were I am in VA there are no Walgreens but with I’ll be on the lookout for when they do finally open their doors here. They always have great photo deals too! If you have a Walgreens near you, you can stay up to date with all their deals by following Walgreens on Twitter or liking Walgreens on Facebook.

Mason man of course still got his prescription and within just a couple of days he was feeling better. Thank goodness because the last thing I wanted was my little man suffering on his birthday!

Where do you get your prescriptions filled? Why?

On the day of Mason’s birthday we laid low. We were suppose to go to the Fire Station so Mason could get a tour of a real life fire truck but it was a little cold and we were all still pretty tired from the day before. Instead we hung out at home. B and I ended up cleaning out some of our kitchen cabinets and Mason had the best time hiding in one of them!

When I was pregnant with Mason I was terrified that he would be born on my birthday so much so that when my water broke at 6:30 am on my Birthday I refused any sort of intervention until the 30th. So my mother and others were very surprised (and to be honest so was I) that I decided to do Mason’s Birthday party on my actual Birthday.

We rented a room at a local community center and decorated it with our Firetruck decorations. I printed out coloring pages that related to fire trucks for the kids to color, blew up balloons for them to kick around and let them decorate cupcakes since it was such a huge hit last year!

Mason was absolutely adorable while we were getting ready. We would say to him Mason your birthday party is today and he would say. “Me? Party?” SO cute.

Here are some pictures from the day:

Just like last year the cupcake decorating was a hit! Mason’s firetruck shirt was too cute to mess up so I took it off for the cupcake decorating!

He liked the cupcake but he really liked the sprinkles!

After cupcake decorating we sang Happy Birthday to him! He loved it and he blew out the candle all on his own!

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ialt5F5mYYo” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

Don’t you just love his shirt? I got it from Caleb’s Closet Becki, the Mom behind Caleb’s Closet cut ever piece of fabric herself and I was absolutely thrilled with how it came out!

After singing Happy Birthday it was time to open the gifts. Mason was so excited to do this! His friend K who’s behind him was SO adorable. He said kept looking at the cards to make sure that they all said Mason, ya know just in case one said K and was for him. So funny and adorable. He cracks me and B up!

See that Fisher Price Drill that’s in the background? Mason is obsessed with it. We had to pretty much force him to open his other gifts. At one point I was trying to entice him with the next present so I started to open it. When he realized it was a book from just the one side being open he said “NO BOOK” shoved it out of the way and lunged for his drill. So if you want to make a two year old little boy happy get him the Fisher Price Drill.

After presents we made sure to snap some pictures of Mommy, Daddy and Mason.

Before we knew it the party was over and it was time to pack up and head home! I was EXHAUSTED from all the festivities so instead of making eggplant parm like I had planned on doing (it’s my favorite food and usually my birthday dinner) we ordered Chinese food and just hung out for the rest of the day! I also made sure that I took some pictures of Mason in his Birthday shirt from last year since it was the last day he would be one! What a difference a year makes! So as not to overload anyone with pictures. I’ll share some pictures of his actual birthday tomorrow!

Mason’s Birthday Party post and such are coming up but to be honest I’ve been so exhausted lately that the last thing I want to do is get on my computer and blog. Shame on me, I know. Soon my posts will be picking up though, I have some exciting news on the horizon!

I can’t believe how quickly January has gone. I turned 25 and then the very next day Mason turned two and then before I knew it, it was February. Where does the time go? Last weekend I went shopping with B’s Mom and we stopped in at Target. I love looking around especially at their holiday stuff and of course they had a ton of Valentine’s Day stuff out! I’m obsessed with all their Valentine’s day baking supplies, I found them on Amazon too and I just had to share, it’s one of the easiest ways to get into the holiday spirit. And because most of it is hearts these baking pans and supplies more than any other holiday can be used through out the year. Here are some of my favorites. As always click the link to find the source/where you can buy!

I just love Valentine’s Day themed bake ware! I want it all but I’m pretty sure if I came home with all B would kill me! I especially love the donut pan and the mini heart pan (pictured last). I can picture doing super cute things for Valentine’s Day for Mason and the mini portion makes it even better for Mason (and my behind).

I don’t know when it happened but I rarely IF EVER buy anything full price anymore. I always make sure that I have some sort of deal going on even if it’s just free shipping. As long as I’m saving SOMETHING I feel so much better about my purchases!

Here are some things I live by that can help you save money too and not just at the grocery store!

Shop Your Local Consignment Stores and Thrift Stores–I know what some of you may be saying. EW, USED?! Not for me or my family but GUESS WHAT?! I have found A TON of brand spanking new items for both myself and my family especially at consignment stores.

Consign–Don’t just shop at consignment stores consign your clothes! At the beginning of every season (or even better a little before) go through your clothes, figure out what you need and what you don’t need and then consign what you don’t need. It’s a great way to earn some money, at most places you get half of what your item sold for. You can usually cash it in for store credit or cash in hand. Consigning not your thing? Do a blog sale or try Craigslist or Ebay.

Search for coupons online whether you’re shopping online or going to the store–I like shopping online to a certain extent but very rarely buy clothes online. Why? Because I’m short and large chested this means that every single thing I buy has the potential to drastically fit me differently so it’s always a must for me to try things on. Sometimes I’ll notice that there is a sale online but when I go to the store it’s not on sale. So I try on the clothes figure out what I want and then order online. Another option is to look for coupons online. Today I went to Target, I knew I had to buy in store because our event is Saturday so there was no time for shipping so I searched online for target coupon codes and sure enough there were plenty! I picked and choose what I needed and was on my way.

Shop out of Season–This often means buying what you need for next year this year but it’s a great way to save money! Shop the clearance racks you’d be surprised at what you can find and combined with a coupon you can often pay next for nothing even on clothes. Target is one store I know that has coupon codes. Shopping out of season for kids often involves guessing what size your child will be the following year, I KNOW that can be hard, it’s something I struggle with BUT worst comes to worst you can gift the items, consign them or sell it online to make your money back!

Sign up for your Favorite Stores Newsletters or Follow them on their social media–I set up a separate email account for this so my email doesn’t get clogged with too many store promotions. When I need a coupon for a specific store I sign into the email account and see what’s going on. I often find out about sales and coupons this way that may not be available to people who don’t subscribe.

and one bonus option:

Mobile Coupons–My very favorite stores get the special privilege of having access to my phone number. Each week I get exclusive coupons! I love it!
