If you have been trying to find levels or creators lately you were probably unsuccessful. Why? Well, the search function was broken. This was especially bad if you hadn’t published a level before it broke as that meant that neither your level nor you yourself showed up in search.
Now, however it looks like the search function is working again. So if you published level recently and have heard from other people that they can’t find your level now is the time to republish it.
This hasn’t been confirmed by MediaMolecule yet, but many people are reporting that it works. Rejoice!

The folks from criticalgamer.co.uk met MM at the Eurogamer Expo last week and had a wee chat with them about LittleBigPlant. You can find the interview if you follow the links: Part 1, Part 2
If you are short on time we give you a little summary of the most interesting bits here, but the interview is well wort reading.

On DLC:

We have a lot of stuff coming out, especially next year. We can’t really talk about specifics for a lot of it at the moment, because a lot of it hasn’t been announced.

There definitely will be more interactive music. Whether that’s standalone in a music only pack… I don’t know yet. We’ll see how the first music pack does first. We’d love to do that; as with everything we do we’ll listen to the community, and see how it goes.

On level packs:

“We may be level designers, but most of our time is actually spent testing other features that come into the game. These things only ever get announced when they’re nearly complete; most of our time is spent prototyping these things. Our studio is quite small, about thirty five people; we simply don’t have a distinction between designers and level designers. So most of our time isn’t spent making levels, which is a bit of a shame

On the fifty layer glitch:

Well, anything you find like that… with a million people, I guess it’s always going to happen. Unless it’s damaging to the game, we’re going to leave it. It’s part of the creative process. The fifty layer bug doesn’t sit very well with me on a personal level, because it can make levels very hard to read, as in where you can go and what you can do. Some people have done it very well and made it very clearly defined.

On the possibility of a sequel:

I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue. We’re evolving the community, listening to them, carrying them with us. That’s something you’re going to see a lot more of.
We’d never fragment the community. We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.

Another week went by so another Sack It To Me hit the Playstation blog.

According to CVG LittleBigPlanet PSP will be released on November 20. There is still no date for the rest of Europe but it’s fairly save to assume that will be out in here on, or around, that date as well.
The US is getting it on the 17th of November. Lucky you.

Has you might have noticed LBP got another update today. 1.20 does precisely nothing but add content data. However the next one will be good.

The 1.20 update to the game is indeed more content, rather anything too massive, however I can reveal that 1.21 is the fabled and oft heard of Leerdammer update.

I can’t say when it’s coming just yet, but the fact that it’s next in the queue should give you some indication.

For those of you unfamiliar with the awesomeness of Leerdammer, that’s the patch that will give us online create and also contain the much need profile space increase.

Some of you may have been playing LittleBigPlanet long enough to remember the unofficial community website Sackbook. For those of you who don’t; it was basically a website that let you check the comments and ratings of your levels via your computer. Very handy for us addicted creators who had to go to school or work every now and then. I suppose you could compare it to Facebook. Sadly it was shut down quite quickly by Sony. The official argument was that the way Sackbook accessed the relevant data might not have been save.
Every so often there were rumors that MediaMolecule is working on a similar site, but nothing was ever officially announced.
Well, it still hasn’t been announced but in an interview about LBP PSP with Laura Dilloway, one of the artist behind LBP PSP, criticalgamer.co.uk found out that MM is indeed working on community website:

The Media Molecule guys are putting together a new community website, so hopefully we can get some PS3 players over to the PSP version with that, and build up the community by bringing players of both games together.

One year ago LittleBigPlanet was released! There have been many memorable moments for everyone, no doubt (Who will ever forget the supreme reign of Ramp! :p)

Anyway, MediaMolecule has a present for us:

As some of you may know MM held a Mini Meet at Fridays Eurogamer Expo in London. Some lucky souls had the chance to play LBP PSP there and talk a bit to MM.
Here is what the attendees of the Expo had to say about the PSP version.

Play:
As we have already heard before there are only two playable layers. That means you will be a little bit more limited, but if you’ve played the PS3 version you might have noticed that MediaMolecule rarely used all three layers in their levels either. So what the restriction to two layers probably will mean is that the PSP levels will have a little bit less decoration, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t look good.

One thing that will come to a huge relief to some people is that the jumping seemed to be less floaty to those who played the game.

A change has been made to the tutorials as well. Instead of an explaining in-game video they are made in a cartoon graph paper style.

Create:
Here is a addition that no doubt many people would welcome in the PS3 version: You can choose whether a created object is ‘Static’ or ‘Dynamic’. That means instead of glueing a piece of dark matter to the object you can simply set it to ‘Static’ and it will have the same properties as a dark matter enhanced object. Of course if you change your mind you can always switch it back to ‘Dynamic’ and the object will act normally again.

Another welcome change is that pistons in the PSP version are stiff by default. A small change, but it should make creating a little bit more enjoyable. (If you are reading this, MM, please patch those two changes into the PS3 version )

Other changes in create mode are that you can’t draw objects anymore, because grid mode seems to be permanently turned on. Whether this is good or bad is hard to say, but one could imagine they decided to do this because it may be to fiddly to draw with the little joystick of the PSP. In any case the Corner Edit tool is still there so that shouldn’t be a great limitation.
Lastly, it seems like you cannot make an object with a hole in it, for example a donut. However you can achieve that by glueing two objects together.

A big part of LBP on the PS3 is that you can share your levels with virtually everyone. This feature is still in the PSP version. You can upload 20 levels just like on the PS3 and furthermore send your levels directly to a friend via the ad-hoc functionality. Your friend can then edit your level if you allow him to.
You will be able to download as many user-made levels as you like (or rather as you PSP can hold) and play them on the go. Once you reconnect to the network your score and rating will be uploaded to the servers.

Overall verdict:
Even though they only had limited time with the PSP version everyone (as far as we know) enjoyed the game. The story mode seems to be as good as alway, the music and art style equally good.
Create mode may be taking some time to get used to and it may not be as easy to create on the PSP as it is on the PS3 due to hardware limitations (e.g. only one tiny joystick) but if there are more clever solutions like Static/Dynamic setting for objects it may be just fine to create on the go and during you lunch break.
Of course all of the above has to be taken with a pinch of salt, as we don’t know how old the build at the show was nor can we say with absolute certainty that all the information is correct as people may just have missed in an option etc.

The game is out later this month. We can’t wait to get our hands on it!

The title of this level says it all, because it truly is a journey through different worlds. It has many different themes but they all blend in so well together. The author of this level has used all the sounds and music in such way that it completely fits the scenery and adds a lot to the whole experience. This is a amazing level that is well built with some good platform action.

 Level Name: Back to the Savannah

Building a level that has the look and feel from a Media molecule story level is hard and before i saw the “Back to…” levels from marquise126ace i thought it was impossible to create such a thing. But he has managed to create levels that have that Media molecule look and feel, if i didn’t know any better i would have said that this is a story level. Back to the Savannah is basically a sequel to the Savannah story levels, the plot of the story is that the Gibbon king needs to speak to you urgently but you have many dangers to survive before you get to him. If you like the Media molecule, Savannah story levels (and who doesn’t like those) then this is a level that you do not want to miss.

A “diary” entry about LBP PSP has just been posted on the LittleBigWorkshop news site.
Jon Torrens, who is apparently one of the designer of LBP PSP, talks a bit about prizes you can collect in the game, the create mode and physics in LBP. None of it will come as a surprise to those of you who have played the game on the PS3.

Update: Gareth Hughes, lead designer of the game, just revealed a little bit about the story, too.

Again there seems to be something for everyone and those who missed out on the space suit in the PS3 version will be pleased to see that it will be back in some form in the PSP version. However it look like the space buggy as well as the Killzone tank costume are pre-order incentives or part of an upcoming DLC pack. They look cool nonetheless.

Did you miss out on the Valentines kit? Were you busy packing up presents when the Santa costume was available?
Yes? Than I have good news for you that are only slightly marred by some bad news. Or rather Sam_Protagonist has:

The subject of time limited costumes is certainly popular right now so let’s clear up exactly what’s going to happen.

Costumes that are timed to fit a certain event, holiday or season such as the Valentines pack or Halloween costume will be re-released every year to coincide with the event. This does not mean that other seasonal won’t also turn up in the future, but it should be seen that unless explicitly released as “never to be repeated” all time limited content can be released again.

As far as the space suit is concerned, this isn’t associated with an annually recurring event, but is associated with something special in the LittleBigPlanet calendar – a game launch. To that end it will also return to be available when there is a new game launched.

Extra content that will never return to be available will always be marked as such, and will be representative of special edition content – like the Week 1 Tshirt. It’s appreciated that North America never had the chance to pick up the Tshirt, but it was always intended to be a rare and exclusive item for a very limited period of time (hence the price) which is why it cannot be released again as it would undermine this intention. However there will be other pieces of special edition content released in the future and the one guarantee this time around is that it will be available everywhere.

So there is hope that we will see the seasonal costumes and packs again, but sadly our North American friends will have to say goodbye to the hope of ever getting their hand on the Week 1 T-Shirt.
The same is true for the Space Suit. The release of the GOTY edition came and went (in North America, anyway) and no Space Suit appeared on the store. Something to look forward to in LBP 2, eh?
