We spotted this silver grey Garbage Truck around the townline of Derry & Windham NH. It looked pretty new to us and was quite a sight. In the past, there weren't many automated side loaders like this in our area. From what we have heard, they are going to be utilizing them in some towns. The side of the truck said G-S Products ~ Proudly Made in USA! This one appears to be the CollecStar8000

I was checking up my updates on Facebook and I came across Koupon Karen's post about a Fisher Price Recycle Truck. This truck is now available on Amazon. I was thinking it was going to a Fisher Price Toy we already have, and much to my surprise, it was one I have never seen before!

A Trip to the Toy Store

We took a family trip to Toys R Us for my littlest one's 2nd Birthday. We let him pick out a big and a little toy. He chose Geotrax, which ia another favorite in our house. I love the sturdy construction and the remote control trains. It is rated for ages 2-7, which is great because at this point, both boys love playing Geotrax.

While we were shopping for the little one's birthday, my oldest of course had to seek out how many toys he could find that he wanted. We found the Lego City Green Garbage/ Recycling Truck. He loves this and it went on his Santa List. He already had the Orange Garbage Truck and the Duplo Lego ones too.

Of course he found the "The Trash Pack". I wasn't sure what these even were at first. I guess they kind of remind me of the girl version of the Squinkies. The Garbage Truck is used to collect them and the barrel does infact go up and down...that is important! Then you can purchase seperate packs of Trashies.

Here are the Trashies. I think there are a whole bunch of them, some regular, some glow in the dark, rare ones and limited edition. There is a collectors guide so your child can check off which ones they have and don't have. Perfect for stocking stuffers.

Here is my little cutie checking out the Geotrax. Of course we have the Geotrax Recycle Train and Garbage Truck, in fact, I think we might have two!

Exciting News! New Playmobil Trucks

Just in time for the Holiday Season! I love this time of year because I know new toys will be rolling out. I was very excited to see two new Playmobil Trucks.

5938 Green Recycling Truck. I love the bright green features on this rear loading truck. It appears that is comes with two trash collectors, 1 bin and some little "trash" pieces. Also that the back of the truck has a lever to lift and load the bin. My oldest son hasn't seen this yet, he is going to be so excited!

Amazon is listing that as of today they have 7 available. (Target and Toys R Us are sold out online from what I can tell)

7516 Classic Recycling Truck. From what I can tell, this is a new release of a older classic recycling truck. I have only seen the old "vintage" one on ebay. Very exicitng that Playmobil has released this new Classic Recycling Truck.

The Holidays are officially upon us. I hope everyone had a great Halloween and Thanksgiving. The past few months have flown by and I can't believe it is that time of year again! Black Friday deals are up and hopefully if you are out and about, you are finding super deals and are safe. It makes me anxious just looking at the Black Friday crowds at all the big stores, so I am choosing to check out the online deals!

I found at JC Penney, the Tonka Mighty Motorized Garbage Truck (front loader). There is a code of SHIP25 for Free Shipping on Orders over $25.00. It is $34.99 and available in Green and Blue. We already have both of these and an orange one too. Tonka makes sturdy colorful trucks and they have pretty much withstood the rough and tough hands of our son. He has played countless hours with his Tonkas using the automated front loader to pick up "trash". Usually he uses tiny toys, legos or cut up paper or fabric.

Toys R Us also has these Tonka trucks online, but are only offering free shipping on orders over $49.00. JC Penney has the better deal!

Another Installment of Re-Purpose That!

We had alot of fun this past summer making all sorts of craft projects. We made this really cool nightlight out of a large CD Spindle Case and some leftover paper crafting supplies. For the light, we used a LED battery operated votive candle we won in a baby shower centerpiece. It is alot of fun to create a little scavenger hunt around the house with the kids and find all sorts of goodies to add to your craft projects!

We also added a little "bling" to the top cover.

Adapt for use in a different purpose

Repurposing Greeting Cards Project
have a love/hate relationship with greeting cards. Of course, I love getting mail that isn't bills, the sentiments are nice and thoughtful. But what do you do with with them afterwards? I hate to throw them away. First of all, they cost so much money, someone you love spent the time to send it and well most of the time, the cards get put in a box in the closet.

I decided while I was trying to complete the "great file cleanup of 2011", I would keep the box o'greeting cards for a special project with the kids (ie: myself, little David and Lauren).

First I had the kids sort thru the cards by theme; christmas, fall (halloween & Thanksgiving), kid birthday, hearts/valentine's day and flowers. We then cut off the back of the card and figured out what part of the front of the card we wanted in our Sizzix circle. You could use any other type of circle cutter too or cut by hand. At first I was using my fiskars circle cutter, but the Sizzix circle die was so much easier for the kids to use.

Next, using a triangle template, score the triangle shape into the cicle so the edges can be folded outward towards the card graphic.

You will need to cut 20 circles per Hanging Decoration. While adhering all sides, be sure to exactly match up the folded semi cirlces. If they do not exactly match, your ball may look like and oval. We used a glue gun to adhere the paper. (We did try using scrapbook adhesive and it didn't hold up with the humid air so we re-enforced with staples)

Before adhering the final circle, we threaded a ribbon thru for hanging. And here is the beautiful end result!!! These would be a great decoration for a Recycle Theme Birthday Party!

Another New Toy Story 3 Garbage Truck Playset!

My husband and son were shopping in KMart today and came across a toy we haven't seen before. I am thinking we possible had walked right by it in the past because it looks similiar to the Matchbox Toy Story 3 Garbage Truck or the Imaginext garbage truck from the movie.

This truck is the Disney Pixar Toy Story 3 Garbage Truck Playset by Mattel. The truck comes complete with trash truck sounds, including back-up beeping and a horn. Open up the back to reveal conveyer belts and a claw! This truck would be perfect to bring for a playdate with a friend or a trip to grandma's house, since it is a portable playset, all in one "case". My son had a great idea to also use his Action Link Characters with this playset. Retail price of this particular toy is approx. $31.99.

How It's Made on the Science Channel

I was "clicking" through the channels last night and was checking out the guide for How It's Made on the Science Channel. Once in a while, I find an episode that is of interest to myself and my 6 year old. The shows are rated TVG, so it is good for all audiences. I was so excited when I saw the listing Episode 5 Get the story on folding kayaks, piñatas, garbage trucks, and ceramic composite brake discs. The Garbage Truck manufacturing is really interesting! The markings on the truck they manufacture saying Heil as does the credits [Heil Environmental]

Rainy Day Garbage Truck Craft Project

It was humid, damp and dreary outside today, so we needed an indoor project. I decided I would have the kids make their own garbage trucks. We pulled out some old scrapbooking paper scraps, scissors, punches, stickers, etc. I used a solid background and took digital pictures of everyone "driving" a truck. I printed then wallet size in black and white.

Everyone got to pick their own colors. We cut out squares, rectangles, large circle and small circles. This project is good for kids of all ages and is a fun lesson about sizes of shapes, colors and following instructions.

To complete each personalized truck, we pasted on our photo, added our own words to the truck and what we wanted for garbage in the back! We all enjoyed our indoor creative adventure!

Trucks Around Town

We have been on the lookout for new and interesting Garage and Recycling trucks around town. (sorry the pictures aren't too clear, they were taken with my cell phone camera).

We noticed this little "cutie" while we were at a stop light. It reminds me of the little garbage trucks we saw in Boston last year.

This Casella we spotted while were in the Walgreen parking lot. They are a waste removal company in the New England States and New York. My son has always referred to the trucks as "black" Casella since their trucks are painted black. (as opposed to "red" Pinard or "orange and white" city trucks lol)

This truck was in the Burger K!ng parking lot. Very interesting truck. We spotted the driver and asked him what it was used for. It looks like a garbage type truck, but it actually is used to collect and haul waste cooking oil collected from restuarants. The oil is then re-used in various industries and manufacturing of products such as makeup and cosmetics.

We spotted this recycling truck thru the trees while we were in line at the bank drive up window. I think one side is used for paper and the other plastic and aluminum.

Luca Cannizzo is a young boy with a lifelong obsession.
Some children like video games.
Some children like sports.
But for Luca, there is only one thing that matters.
“My son has a fascination with garbage trucks,” said his father, John.

It is no surprise, then, that Luca and his family were in University of Phoenix Stadium Saturday [September 2010] for the Solid Waste Association of North America’s International Road-E-O, a competition that pits garbage truck drivers from all across the country against each other to see who is the best of the best.

While the competition raged inside the stadium, hundreds more gathered in the parking lot for the “Talking Trash” community event, which featured dozens of different garbage trucks for children to climb aboard as well as booths with information on recycling, a prize wheel and other games and giveaways.

For Luca and most of the other children in attendance, the trucks were the main attraction. Luca, dressed in the garbage-man outfit his mother Lisa made for him last Halloween, was dutifully inspecting every vehicle.
“He’s a true fan,” Lisa said. “He actually just had a garbage truck-themed birthday. We sent out garbage truck invitations, had a garbage truck cake. He has a full collection of garbage truck toys, too, including a new one he just got for his birthday.”

Lisa and John said they have been waiting for Luca to move on to something else, but so far that has not happened. “We weren’t sure how long he would stay this interested in garbage trucks and we thought he might grow out of them soon,” she said. “We thought this might be the year but apparently that’s not going to happen.”

Lisa said getting up close and personal with the trucks is a dream come true for Luca.
“They actually brought one to school one day for the kids but Luca was home sick,” she said. “He was devastated. So this has been his first opportunity to climb inside one and he’s loving it.”

While the children were at play outside, the competitors went at it in the stadium. Peg Mulloy, spokeswoman for a waste management company called Republic Services, said the Road E-O is an opportunity for the drivers to showcase their abilities.

“People see the garbage man go by and pick up their bin and take off and they think it’s probably pretty easy, but it’s not easy,” she said. “It’s a difficult job. This competition shows people just how difficult it can be.”

The size and bulkiness of the trucks makes safety the chief concern, she added.
“This isn’t like stepping into your neighbor’s car,” she said. “These things weigh several tons, plus all the garbage. They have complicated hydraulic systems to manage. If they’re not careful it can be dangerous. If there’s one thing they have to keep in mind at all times, it’s safety.”

My Dad is a toy truck collector, my Husband is a comic book collector; there is no hope for our poor 6 year old son. The collecting gene did not pass him by...he is a garbage truck collector.

My Dad (my son's Grumpie) is featured in the June issue of Toy Trucker Magazine. The article can be found here: Collector Profile Luckily, little David was mentioned in the article also. He loves his Grumpie so much and they share the joy of collecting toy trucks. The truly enjoy each other's company and spending time looking at real and collectible trucks. We had to run a few errands on the other side of town yesterday, nothing major, just the main post office and the UPS store. In a matter of one hour, we spotted 8 different garbage and recycling trucks. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera. Little David was so excited! Tell me we are not the only obsessed fans that do this. Do your little ones track what trucks they see around town?

This past weekend the weather was so mild. It was nice to see all of our neighbors, out and about, working in their yards, cleaning out all the winter sand and salt from their cars and the kids were out playing. Today was the first day of Spring Cleanup collection in our city. Every regular Monday, we usually have one orange and white truck for regular refuse collection and then a red recycling truck for our aluminum, glass and cardboard. We were expecting to see the usual Red Pinard rear loader or the occasional front loader for the first day of Spring Cleanup, but we saw an unfamiliar sight...an ALL white McNeilus Truck. David was so excited!!! I didn't get a close enough look to see if our city is using a different company now but I am sure next week little David will find out for me!

Birthday then Thanksgiving next Christmas then Another Birthday

That's how it goes...non-top fun! My youngest son was born the week of Thanksgiving 2009 and my oldest son was born 2 weeks after Christmas 2005. So as soon as my holiday decorations are down, it is time to get into Birthday mode!

The invitations went out a few weeks before Christmas, amongst the 75 or so Holiday cards. We are having a Green Birthday Bash or maybe we can call it an "Earth Day Birthday". Either way, it is all about the Earth and Recycle Trucks. Now if I was really to "Go Green" I would have sent E - Invites, but I am a paper crafter and scrapbooker. $20.00 Bruder

We were shopping at Big Lots this past weekend and we found this blue & white Bruder for $20.00. What a great deal for a Bruder! I checked online at Big Lots and did not see any listed to purchase online. I did see some of these on ebay, but sellers were asking 2x the price plus shipping.

Someone I know also told me that Home Goods had the same one for $24.99 down in Florida.

Just wanted to share our unique find!
