Charlottesville’s Jefferson Theater to Open Nov. 27th

It has only been a few months since I made the move to Brooklyn from Charlottesville, so I thought I’d give a little Cville music shout-out. Although it’s a pretty small city, Charlottesville has always had a fairly bustling live music scene. But over the last few years, it had been marred by a ton of turnover with the town’s mid-size music venues. The Satellite Ballroom closed, Gravity Lounge shuttered its doors, and Is hardly lasted a year. The Paramount was a nice size, but it was much less focused on the mid-tier, touring rock bands that helped make the scene vibrant. And the entire time I lived in the town, there was an ongoing restoration of the historic Jefferson Theater that simply never came to fruition.

Well, it looks like things are finally starting to pick up again. Gravity Lounge reopened under new management as The Southern and it looks like the long and storied Jefferson Theater renovation will finally be completed. They recently announced their grand opening including a pretty solid lineup of bands for late 2009 and early 2010. Good stuff.

Wilco to Webcast Amsterdam Show on Mon. Nov 16

Just got a little Facebook update from Wilco and it looks like they’re going to webcast their upcoming show at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. The show will stream live on Monday, November 16 at 9:15 p.m. CET, 3:15 p.m. EST, and 12:15 p.m. PST. No other details just yet, so stay tuned.

That’s rad.

Phish Confirms Miami for New Year’s Eve

We’ve been following this for a while now, but today we have official confirmation that Phish will be playing its New Year’s Eve run of shows at American Airlines Arena in Miami on December 28 – 31.

The band has opened up its pre-sale lottery via Musictoday, so get your ticket requests in sometime before Sunday, November 15 at 11:59 PM, EDT. Tickets are $50 each, except for 12/31, which is $60.

If you’re lucky enough to nab tickets or just want to join the festivities, it looks like Vally Music Travel is offering hotel & shuttle packages for the event.

All very tempting.

So…who’s going to Miami?

Sasquatch Music Festival 2010 Tickets On Sale Now

The annual Sasquatch Music Festival is returning on Memorial Day 2010, and they’ve already put the early-bird tickets on sale before the lineup has been announced. But, Pitchfork is reporting that Pavement will be headlining, so I have no doubt that this year’s festival will be as good (if not better) than their previous years.

Oh hai. I still haven’t even fully digested all that I took in at Phish Festival 8, and I’ve had a busy week with work and my band. Monsters of Folk played “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and were joined by current house band, the Roots:

Man, Jim James looks downright clean-cut in this video. And the sound is almost like “the softer side of Monsters of Folk” compared to the videos we posted from their recent Halloween gig. Although I think I prefer the rockin’ version of M.O.F, I definitely dig this tune. I’m not sure the Roots added all that much to the tune compared to the studio version, but it’s still pretty killer. What can I say, I’m a sucker for Jim James vocals and pedal steel.

Any Dirty Projectors fans out there?

I admit I’m a bit late to the party on these guys, mainly because I initially wasn’t digging the lead vocals by Dave Longstreth (not the ladies, they’re fantastic). But I really like the lead guitar lines as well as the minimal sonic backdrop these guys/gals put together. This is probably my favorite tune they do:

The acoustic set-up is nice, but I think I actually prefer the electrified version of this song even more. The percussion and electric guitar just give it a bigger sound:
