SEO sounds freightening to those who don’t know much about it. It can be pretty complex, but it is really just made up of simple tasks. Here is one of those tasks, that if used on your site, may improve your SERP.

Internal Page Links are links from inside a website to another page inside the same website. The menu at the top of the page is nothing more than a series of specially formatted page links. If you click on “privacy”, for example, it will take you to http://www.liveofftheweb.com/blog/privacy. An in-text link is one that is embedded into one or more words in the sentence. Using the same example, “privacy” you can see I have made this one into an in-text, internal page link.

The best use of this tactic is to connect the keyword a page with the same keyword in the title.

Google gives some credibility to internal links in the menus and blog-roll type features, but it gives a much heavier credibility to those inside the text content.

This is one of many, many things you can do to improve your SERP!

WOW, I spent a lot of time spinning my wheels the last few weeks, but I managed to accomplish a lot. While bouncing my head off the wall trying to get past a problem with IPK. In the meantime, I learned new things and, without touching them have three sites up and running.

I was originally working through a system called Info Product Killer (IPK). I found myself lacking the technology and skill for creating what it calls the ‘mother site.’ I contacted email tech support, but instead of giving me an answer, Adrian at email support lied to me. So, it is bye-bye to IPK and Craig Kaye!

During the process of exchanges with IPK non-support, I found a WSO Product called Outsourcing Arbitrage. I learned from it a way to pay very low prices for others to work on my projects for me. I have three websites and 9 graphic banners and logos now and, except for one site, my total cost was a whopping $15.00! I have created a new project which is to define a system from beginning to end and to outsource every step of it. Once I learn how to outsource properly, I hope to create an assembly line where I define the project and feed it through outsourcing until the whole project is completed.

In the mean-time, Mike Filsaime and Chris Farrell are promoting a new coaching program they are calling ‘Affiliate Marketing 2.0″ This closely follows a Warrior Forum Freebie on creating an income very much resembling the same approach. I will be taking what I learned from IPK, Mike & Chris’s videos, and from IPK to produce a new system outline. This will be the system I hope to fully automate by outsourcing.

While the outsourcing system will take some time to create and get the bugs out of, I am sitting on 27 domain names. Most of these domain names are not suitable for the Affiliate 2.o system, so I have decided to focus on creating blogs on each of the domain names, automating the blogs, and promoting the blogs.

I have no technical problems setting up blogs. I have created a system so I can pump them out at the rate of 3-4 an hour on average, or when I really get rolling, I can produce as many as 5 or 6 an hour. That time does not include adding the content and setting up the automation, but I can do both. I can buy more marketing links for $5.00 than I can produce in a week on my own. So I expect to outsource some or all of the marketing.

Finally, I am now on FaceBook, twice! I first setup my business account, but then my wife found out and invited all here friends and family. Well, my wall was immediately filled with chit-chat that is not very oriented towards business. So, I setup a personal site. Once I figure out how to setup a link on here, I will set one up to my business site. In the meantime, if you are interested in joining, search for Buck McDaniel and join the one that has the white deer head.

I also created a group on my business account where I will share the details about how I create and populate blogs for my auto-blog farm. Instructions for joining the group are on my wall.

That’s all for now. I am thinking of taking the rest of today off.

Saturday and Sunday I was unable to get any IM business work done. Monday, I started researching what I needed to post for the first review items. After spending the day (in between lots of interruptions) I managed to pick out ten products and gather the basic information I needed for them.

Last night was a rough night with my little girl waking up several times, but I managed to get quite a few hours of quality work in today. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. All the work I did yesterday was on HDTV. Today, I realized I should have been researching 3D TV. Today, I had a few tasks to resolve, but managed to spend most of the day actually working the business.

I found a new theme and installed it, configured the site and started the first review. This one was hard, being the first of it’s kind. Later, I expect to get pretty fast about it, but for now, it is still a lot of work and research as I go.

The review is up, but it is not optimized for the search engines, yet. I’ll work on that later. Tonight, I am taking a break before I burn out and get discouraged.

Until next time …

We all need encouragement. We want to get it from those we love the most, but sometimes, it comes from strange places. For one man, it was earning 11 cents after six weeks of hard work.

In the Warrior Forum is a thread that was started by someone who announced that after six hard weeks of failing to get ranking in his sites or make sales he finally earned 11 cents. “I hit the big-time!” he says. Likewise, just the other day, I was encouraged over one of my sites moving up from PR-N/A to PR-0. You may think that these are terrible results for all the work that went into them, but maybe they weren’t.

“Success Always Follows Successful People!”

Successful people don’t hope they can do it, they know they can. They believe in themselves, in their plan, and in the results to come. Many successful people first started as unsuccessful thinkers but they persevered in action until they reached external success. They persevered because they eventually came to know they were a success even before there were external confirmations to back it up.

Encouragement is important. Whether it comes from yourself, another person who believes in you, a website improving to PR-0 or an 11 cents sale, if it transforms your mind from hoping to knowing you can do, then the value is immeasurable in money. You became a successful person and external signs of success will follow.

Think of this, Bill Gates once calculated that Microsoft could not pay its employees and stay in business six more months. Did Bill Gates own a multi-billion dollar business then? It is the same Microsoft you see today.

If you know you are going to make it in this business, you are already a success. If you are still hoping, or looking for evidence, you are not there yet, but you can be real soon. Remind yourself every day that you are a success. Focus on the good side of everything. If you are trapped in a job you cannot stand, start looking for the good things. Remind yourself that you are a success and this will all be behind you soon.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Take a moment right now and take an eraser-board marker, a grease pencil, a mascara pen, or a sharpie, if that is all you can find, and write at the top of your bathroom mirror where you dress or shave and write: You are looking at a successful man! (or woman, person, girl, boy, however you want to be addressed.) Every time you look into the mirror, read it. Read it more than once. It will change your life!

You are a success

You are a successful person — You just don’t realize it yet. But you will. Then success will follow you and cling to you like a little lost puppy you just fed.

Have you marked your mirror yet? Do it now!

I have been both busy and productive the last two days. I selected six categories of products to promote, selected and purchased 6 domain names, found one misspelled and bought another, created a master setup template and check list, and I setup 7 websites.

Strangely enough, the majority of the time was picking the product lines and domain names. Once I selected and purchased the domain names, I started reviewing my master setup check-list. I haven’t used it in quite a while and I have added some things since then.

It took me four hours to setup the first site, which included double-checking each step in the check list, reworking the setup template so it reduced my work load in setting up the sites. It automatically lays out three scripts that I have on each site including Power Link Generator and WordPress. WordPress has 24 plugins including WP Robot, Caffeinated Content, quite a few Internet Marketing related plugins and a couple of security plugins. In addition, I manually configure the security of several folders on my site to discourage script kiddies.

Many of these require manual configuration setting after the install, which is what end up taking most of the time required for setup. I spent what seems like a lot of time setting up this template and updating my checklist, but it was not in vain. The first site I set up was actually setup 4 times in the last two days. I set it up once last night, then three times today. Once I got the bugs worked out in my setup routine, I started kicking out websites in 20-40 minutes depending on the interruptions I had to deal with.

From here on out, if my work day is fix on setting up websites and I can do so without interruption, I should be able to kick out about 20 new sites in a single day. That is, of course, only setting them up and configuring the settings. It does not include populating them with articles, etc. Nonetheless, I feel like I accomplished something today!

I only have a half-day to work tomorrow, but my wife is taking the baby so I can either rest or get some work done. My goal for tomorrow is to populate one of the sites with articles that it can drip-feed over the next two weeks.

I just did a review of my marker boards and realized that there are a number of tasks on this site being left undone. It all has to do with priority. I am working towards earning some money this Christmas season. I have some useful tools to put on here, some free training videos that teach the basics of IM and lots of ideas.

Well, that’s it for tonight.

Good night.
Buck

Very quickly after multiple phishing attacks, almost every site hosted on my service (all were attacked) dropped to Google PR n/a, which meant Google would not post them in the search results of a normal search. They were not banned, just discredited.

Yesterday, I discovered one of the sites has moved up in rank to PR-0. While all that means is that Google will list it somewhere in the results, most likely on the last page, it will list the site in the results again.

For some dumb reason, I felt encouraged by this move. Maybe it is just the result of my feeling relieved that I don’t have to dump all the discredited domain names I have. Maybe it comes from seeing a positive movement for the first time in a year.

Whatever the reason, I feel encouraged to keep plugging away!

Last weekend, I changed servers from the hosting one web hosting provider to another. The former provider had changed some setting for their convenience that caused serious security risks to my websites and the sites I host for others. I discovered in the last attacks that the crackers were able to delete my .htaccess files even behind high security passwords consisting of random 12 alpha, numeric and symbol combinations.

I cannot say for sure how they did this. It is possible my sites have a security hole, but I don’t think so. Regardless, when this company was approached about an earlier exploit proven to be within their control and out of mine, rather than offer to fix the problem they insisted I purchase a higher priced product that offered less resources.

On July 13, I signed on with another service and expected them to transfer my sites over that weekend. Things did not go as smoothly as I had hoped, so the process took through Sunday, July 25 to complete. Two sites created in Joomla are messed up a little and need to be looked at, but they are not my priority right now.

In first quarter of 2011, I plan to build the portal and start promoting the web hosting. In the meantime, if you need inexpensive hosting, I can provide this service in either Washington State, or in Texas. Just send me a message from the contact form on this site.

Today my task is to build at least one new website and begin drip-feeding the articles.

In February of this year, Kelly Felix (the Rich Jerk) and Mike Long announced Bring The Fresh and confessed about what they (or was it just Kelly) with The Rich Jerk program and how Bring the Fresh would be different. (http://kellyfelix.com/just-thoughts/)

In reading what they said, I came to incorrect conclusions, or assumptions. In their own forum at the above link, I criticized them based on my current, incomplete, and inaccurate knowledge. I also shared similar criticism in another forum I cannot locate.

Today, I am armed with more information and have a better understanding about what they were saying and what they are teaching.

Kelly Felix and Michael Long, I was wrong! I have wronged the two of you and offer my public apology here, and on your site where I wrongfully criticized you. I apologize to you, Kelly Felix, and to you, Mike Long.

I wish you both well with Bring The Fresh. When the time is right, I plan to check it out personally.

Sincerely,

A while ago, some domain names were struck by a phisher. The thieves are using a vulnerability in the settings of of the master hosting service that could be turned off, literally in less than one minute. When I called to inquire about them blocking the attacks, they suggested I pay twice as much for 1/2 the service I was getting to “protect” the good names of my domains. WRONG ANSWER!

Last week I found a new service and decided it was time to move. I really don’t want down time during the winter holiday seasons coming up. I had planned to have the sites transferred in one weekend, but as Murphy would have it, I finally got the hard part finished last night. A few days ago, just after hearing the news about an employee at server farm inadvertently removed a server hosting many web businesses without warning, I decided to pick up a second service to be kept prepped as an active backup in case one server goes down or in case I decide to change services again.

The change also gives me opportunity to offer great secure hosting packages at entry level prices. My focus until Christmas holidays will be on building 100 websites. After the holidays, I will make a business plan regarding hosting services. In the mean-time, if you are interested in reasonably priced hosting starting about $12.00 per year, contact me through the contact form on this site.

I finished going through the IPK package of documents and videos. For those of you who know the IM jargon, I’ll tell you the basis of what it is without giving away the trade secrets inside. The methods taught in the videos are about two years old, but mostly very relevant for today. The foundation is that instead of selling digital info products via affiliate marketing, one sells tangible goods from various sources. The model used in the training is basically the link wheel and hub using some very good SEO tactics.

I had already learned about 85% or more of what the course teaches, but the course brings it together with a common focus. This alone was worth what I paid for the membership. Additionally, the new things I learned are really fantastic. Again, that alone is worth the current price of the course, which is still $37.00.

What I am working on now is a slight variation from the IPK system. The primary difference is that I will be taking steps to protect my sites from being ‘slapped into oblivion’ by Google, as one victim put it. I spent one full day researching the ‘Google Slap,’ something I have been reading about since I first started into IM years ago and found a list of requirements Google is looking for in sites for high rank. Now that I am armed with the information about what makes Google happy, I can build my sites accordingly.

Well, it is time to get back to work.

Until next time,
Buck
