Is Michael Phelps the greatest Olympian?

SUPERHUMAN Michael Phelps today smashed two more world records in the pool.
The Baltimore Bullet is targeting eight gold medals, but is surely already the greatest swimmer the world has ever seen.
But where does he stand in the Olympian annals? How do you compare Phelps' achievements to, for example, the discus medals of Al Oerta, the epic track achievements of flying Finn Paavo Nurmi and sprinter Carl Lewis, or the five gold medals won by our own Steve Redgrave?

Should Dwain Chambers be allowed into the Olympics?

THE MOST unpopular man in British athletics goes to court today in a bid to be on the Olympic plane.
Dwain Chambers is the fastest man in the country. His 10.08 this week put him way ahead of his nearest competitior, although not exactly breathing down the neck of the astonishing wind-assisted 9.68 run by Tyson Gay in the US trials.
Unfortunately, the man is a convicted drug cheat and therefore banned from his sport's showpiece event this summer.

Usain no Bolt from the blue

USAIN Bolt smashed the world 100m record and thrust his name into the sports annals for all time.
Being officially the fastest man in the world is perhaps the ultimate athletic accolade. The undisputed heavyweight champion of the world would have something to say about it, but not many others.
Yet the precocious youngster from a small town on the north coast of Jamaica is already having to defend his reputation.
