In a word: Wow. The second annual Ride 4 Yellow wrapped up Sunday at the top of the Steamboat Ski Area. It was a picture-perfect day, both in weather and the amazing spirit of all the riders, sponsors and spectators.

As members of the Ride 4 Yellow organizing committee, we’re awestruck by the passion and perseverance of those who chose to be part of the event. You’re what keeps us going, and you’re what has us already excited for Year 3. But first let’s reflect a bit on Year 2.

The 120 or so riders will end up raising more than $120,000 for the 4 Yellow Foundation and the Livestrong Foundation. The inaugural Ride 4 Yellow Ball that was held Friday at beautiful Marabou Ranch raised more than $20,000. The money raised will go directly to organizations that play a lead role in researching for a cure, developing new and better treatments, and helping those who are waging their own battle with cancer as we speak.

Many of us were moved to tears this weekend by your personal stories of friends and family members who couldn’t be there because of cancer. We were similarly moved by the presence of folks like Amy Dodson and Amy Wharton, who were there despite the cancer that turned their lives upside down.

Most of all, we were moved by you. You made Ride 4 Yellow a success, and for that we all owe you a great deal of gratitude.

Many, many thanks. We can’t wait to see you next year.

Ride 4 Yellow allocates $266K to help fight cancer

It’s official — the first round of grant funding for proceeds from the Ride 4 Yellow is complete. A granting committee last week helped allocate the $266,000 that was raised for global and local cancer initiatives during the inaugural Ride 4 Yellow in 2010.

Half of the proceeds — $133,000 — went to the Livestrong Foundation to help fund its global fight against cancer. The remaining half stayed in the Yampa Valley, with $71,000 going to Yampa Valley Medical Center for a number of its cancer-related efforts, $20,000 going to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, $7,000 going to the Mela-Know-More Foundation, and the remaining $35,000 going to a start an endowment that will allow for future granting and funding sustainability.

Steamboat Springs-based outdoor companies Honey Stinger and SmartWool have signed on as multiyear sponsors of the 4 Yellow Foundation and its two signature events: Ride 4 Yellow and Ski 4 Yellow.

SmartWool, the world-famous merino wool outdoor apparel company, is now the official outfitter of Ride 4 Yellow. Honey Stinger, the industry leader in honey-based energy foods, is now the official energy provider of the event.

“The entire Honey Stinger organization, along with seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, who is part of our ownership team, is proud to have been involved from the very beginning and look forward to reaching new heights with this partnership,” said Len Zanni, Honey Stinger’s marketing director.

We share Len’s excitement for the future of the 4 Yellow Foundation and events like Ride 4 Yellow. See you in August!

The Ride 4 Yellow Ball on Friday August 5th, 2011 at the exclusive Marabou Lodge was a wonderful event for all that attended! Festivities included a Champagne Reception, Dinner, Silent Auction and Live Music from Loose Change along with key-note Speaker Amy Dodson.

The Ball was an opportunity for anyone and everyone to show their support for the Fight against Cancer by simply getting a ticket, dressing up, having a great dinner and bidding on some amazing auction packages. Find out more by checking out ball.ride4yellow.com

Lance Armstrong Confirms He Will Be in Steamboat

Even while battling in the 2010 Tour De France, Lance was able to confirm that he will be coming to the Ride 4 Yellow event.

Details are still being worked out but this is a tremendous opportunity to participate in an event with one of the greatest cyclists of all time.
