My sweet George, my sweet home

Há mais ou menos uma hora de Londres, está a cidade Henley-on-Thames, lar de um dos meus Beatles favorito: George Harrison. Uma viajem de trem muito agradável e um lugar que explica a personalidade e George: calmo, quase que em um retiro espiritual.

Chegando a estação de trem, encontramos (Luis e eu) duas pessoas, não havia mais ninguém por perto e então eu pedi informação a uma das pessoas, se ela conhecia o local da casa do famoso Beatle. Ele disse que conhecia sim e nos ofereceu uma carona até a propriedade, se esperássemos um pouco. Nós muito gratos, dissemos que aguardaríamos.

O trajeto da estação até Friar Park, não durou mais do que dois minutos, nesse tempo, o senhor nos contou sobre sua irmã que era também Beatlemaníaca e que quando adolescente, batia a porta de George em Liverpool. Agradecemos a gentileza, e lá estávamos nós, frente a sabida Mansão Vitoriana de 120 cômodos.

Não é possível ver a Mansão datada de 1889, mas pudemos ter uma pequena e bela visão dos jardins plantados pelas próprias mãos de George Harrison.

Caminhamos depois, por fora dos muros desta. Ter o privilégio de poder dar uma longa e calma volta por esta, trouxe-me de volta aquela sensação de gratidão.

About an hour from London is the city of Henley-on-Thames, home of one of my favorite Beatle: George Harrison. A very nice train ride and a place that explains the personality and George: calm, almost like a spiritual retreat.

Arriving at the train station, we found (Luis and I) two people, there was no one else around and so I asked one of them for information, if he knew the location of the famous Beatle's mansion. He said he did know and offered us a ride to the property if we'd wait a bit. We were very grateful, we said we would wait.

The journey from the station to Friar Park took no more than two minutes, in that time he told us about his sister who was also a Beatlemaniac and that when she was a teenager she knocked on George's door in Liverpool. We thank him for his kindness, and there we were, in front of the famous 120-room Victorian Mansion.

It is not possible to see inside the Mansion dating from 1889, but we were able to have a small and beautiful view of the gardens planted by George Harrison's own hands.

We walked later, outside the walls. Having the privilege of being able to take a long, calm ride around this one brought me that feeling of gratitude back.

2013: Beatlemaníaca há mais de 40 anos, fui fazer uma segunda visita a gênesis da Beatlemania.

Pisar em Londres pela segunda vez e dessa vez com a passagem comprada para outros lugares, também especiais, era quase como voltar pra casa. A ansiedade era latente!

Westminster, pelo que percebi, é uma região essencialmente residencial, portanto o transporte para lá não é tão acessível, quanto para outros pontos de Londres. A opção então, era o típico Cab.

Com o GPS em mãos, nos vimos (eu e meu maridão, companheiro de viagens) na Cavendish Avenue. Estar na Rua de Sir Paul McCartney, era lidar com a possibilidade de dar de cara com ele, o coração bate forte, descompassado, cheguei a ouvi-lo disparar...Encostar no portão e tentar olhar pelas frestas desse para ter a sensação de proximidade, sem ser invasiva, era a opção. Não, ele não está! Não vai sair, não vai aparecer, mas a gratidão pela possibilidade, era triunfal. Mais alguns minutos para aproveitar essa sensação inominável e era hora de ir para Abbey Road.

A caminha pelo bairro calmo, num dia frio de inverno, foi agradável. Quando menos esperei, lá estava eu, visualizando o sinal de trânsito, mais procurado do Mundo. Atravessar a faixa de Abbey Road, repetindo o gesto dos Fab Four, é o sonho de todo bom Beatlemaníaco. Logo, lá fui eu. Mas, não poderia ser uma simples travessia. Teria que ter personalidade, minha marca. Sem titubear, atravessei e no meio da rua, fiz um split (spakato), fruto dos meus dois grandes amores: a Música e o Esporte. Na esquina, havia um moço, creio que era um vendedor, ele me disse que estava lá há mais de vinte anos e que era a primeira vez que via alguém fazer um split em Abbey Road. Fiquei orgulhosa de mim! kkkkkkkkk

Stepping into London for the second time and this time with purchased tickets to other places, also specials, was almost like coming home. Anxiety was latent!

Westminster, as I understand it, is primarily a residential area, so transport is not as accessible as it is to other parts of London. The option then, was the typical Cab.

With the GPS in hand, we saw each other (my husband and travel companion) on Cavendish Avenue. Being on Sir Paul McCartney's Street, was dealing with the possibility to meet him, my heart beats hard, out of step, I even heard its beats... Leaning against the gate and trying to look through the cracks in it to get the feeling of proximity, without being invasive, was the option. No he is not at home! He won't leave, he won't show up, but gratitude for the possibility was triumphant. A few more minutes to enjoy this nameless feeling and it was time to head to Abbey Road.

The walk through the quiet neighborhood, on a cold winter day, was pleasant. When I least expected it, there it was, viewing the most wanted traffic sign in the world. Crossing the Abbey Road lane, repeating the Fab Four's gesture, is a Beatlemaniac's dream. So there I was. But, it couldn't be a simple crossing. It would have to have personality, my brand. Without hesitating, I crossed and in the middle of the street, I did a split (spakato), fruit of my two great loves: Music and Sport. There was a young man on the corner, I believe he was a salesman, he told me he had been there for over twenty years and that it was the first time he had seen anyone made split on Abbey Road. I was proud of myself! hahahahaha

Bruno De Marchi, a exemplo de todo bom beatlemaníaco, conhece essa história de cor. E por isso mesmo ele não conseguiu, e nem mesmo tentou, conter o choro quando, há cerca de um ano, recebeu o aval por escrito dos executivos da mesma Apple Corps para montar e administrar no Brasil a loja online oficial da banda.

“Eu chorei pra caramba quando vi o papel com o nome de nossa empresa, a Bandup”, lembra De Marchi. “Eu tenho a exclusividade para vender todos os produtos oficiais da marca na América Latina. Alguns vou importar, outros vou produzir por aqui, como camisetas, canecas e coisas do gênero”, explica o paulista da cidade de Barra Bonita, que além dos Beatles, gerencia outras 55 lojas virtuais e tem contratos firmados com artistas que vão dos paraenses da Banda Calypso ao astro pop Bruno Mars.

“No ano passado, conseguimos faturar R$ 3,2 milhões. Quero chegar a R$ 7 milhões neste ano”, estima De Marchi, que só com a lendária banda inglesa tem planos de contabilizar R$ 150 mil até dezembro.

A carta de duas páginas contém correções e é endereçada a seu colega de banda Paul McCartney e sua esposa Linda. Mostra Lennon e sua esposa Yoko Ono dentro de um círculo com os lábios quase se tocando.

A carta de Lennon não tem data, mas o tom irritado no texto sugere que ela foi escrita no contexto de separação da banda em 1970.

A draft letter typed by John Lennon which shows tensions within The Beatles in the early Seventies is to go on sale in May.

The two-page letter contains corrections and is addressed to Lennon's bandmate Paul McCartney and his wife Linda. The stationery shows Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono within a circle with their lips almost touching.

Lennon's letter is undated, but the angry tone within the text suggests that it was written in the context of the band's split in 1970.

A quote reads: "Do you really think most of today's art came about because of the Beatles? I don't believe you're that insane – Paul – do you believe that? When you stop believing it you might wake up!"

The letter is expected to reach between $40,000 – $60,000 (£26,300 – £39,000), and will go on sale in an online auction run by Profiles In History on May 30.
