Bonnaroo released their annual round-the-clock schedule of Music, Comedy and Arts programming for the 11th installment of the Manchester, TN festival today and the artists with New Orleans ties landed some notable slots. First, there’s The Soul Rebels, who will be the first band to grace the festival’s main stage, playing on Friday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Much later on that night a dance party of epic proportions will transpire following a rare performance by The Word when Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk plays from 2:00-3:00 a.m. and Big Freedia the Queen Diva goes real late, bringing the late night azzstravaganza to the farm starting at 3:15 a.m. The following day, Stooges Brass Band will play the Great Taste Lounge and hit at 9:20 p.m. Finally, on Sunday Honey Island Swamp Band will play the Great Taste Lounge from 1:20-2:10 p.m. Great to see a festival that traces its roots back to the Crescent City hasn’t forgotten where it came from.

The first headliners for Voodoo Experience 2012 have just been announced and in an interesting twist, the initially scrapped plans from earlier in the 2000′s to have on-site camping at Voodoo will be realized this year – new to this year’s Ritual is on-site camping. A longtime tradition at the most renowned music festivals around the world, this is the first time it will be offered to Voodoo patrons. Camping options range from general tent camping with basic amenities to a luxurious all-encompassing camping experience. I slapped the alligator and bit that shark!

On their special-guest heavy new record Carnivale Electricos, Galactic invited a couple familiar faces from the local rap scene to bring their A-game on a the hot new track “Move Fast”. Check. it. out.

Recently re-jailed Mystikal and Mannie Fresh vibe around cars again, visiting a swampy raceway in the clip for “Move Fast,” their collaboration with New Orleans funk five-piece Galactic. Over brassy parade wobble, Mystikal raps about partying at age 40, unable to meet a girl on the floor because of his bad knees. Even so, he doesn’t lack for energy, ferociously pantomiming lyrics like slapped that alligator, bit that shark. Fresh didn’t produce “Move Fast” (from Galactic’s Mardi Gras-inspired Carnivale Electricos, out now), but Mystikal told MTV that since returning home, he and Fresh have collaborated on “about five” tracks. Those songs probably won’t end up on Mystikal’s Cash Money debut, though, says label CEO Birdman. “Honestly, I don’t care to work with Fresh and none of his music… I want him with all new music. No disrespect to Fresh, but we ain’t on that sound,” he told XXL last year. In July, Mystikal will release a mixtape called Origins, more likely to feature tracks made with Fresh. “What I do with Mannie is what I do with Mannie, what I do with my company is with the company,” he said.

According to Billboard, the soundtrackers of my childhood and slingers of Dookie will headline this year’s ritual. The alt-rock giants are the first announced headliner for this Voodoo Experience -the band previously performed at the festival’s 2004 installment and follow up last year’s Soundgarden early announcement. The annual festival is expected to announce the rest of its lineup on Wednesday.

The Voodoo festival will span October 26-28, falling between Green Day’s respective September and November ¡Uno! and ¡Dos! album releases. The third in the planned trilogy, ¡Tré!, will land January 15, 2013. The festival date is currently Green Day’s only U.S. show of the year.

On Friday night, Tipitina’s Uptown played host to a special benefit for the Tipitina’s Foundation featuring bands and performers from New Orleans and the Baltimore / D.C. for a Treme v. The Wire Battle of the Bands show. For New Orleans it was Stooges Brass Band and Galactic and Lafayette Gilchrist and Anwar Glover & The Backyard Band repped the B/D.C. area.
