<p>Under the guidance of the Santa Clara Public Health Department and Santa Clara County Office of Education, public schools in Santa Clara County are closed. All of our school offices and district offices will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, March 17. For communication with school and district employees, please email specific staff directly. Contact information can be found on the Palo Alto Unified School District website, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.pausd.org/" target="_blank">pausd.org</a>, or your child’s specific school website, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.pausd.org/schools" target="_blank">https://www.pausd.org/schools</a>. PAUSD employees have been asked to work remotely during this time. Teachers will be supporting flexible learning options (FLOs) for students and will be working off campus to meet student academic needs as much as possible during this unprecedented time. <p>Nixon&#8217;s first-ever Poetry Night will be held on November 6, 5:30-7:30 in the theater, during the Book Fair (the location is TBD &#8211; but will either be the main stage or the side room).</p>



<p>Students are invited to read up to 2 poems of their choice &#8211; it could be their own poem and/or a favorite poem by another author (Shakespeare, anyone?).</p>



<p>Students are encouraged to exercise <em>creativity</em> and may sing or &#8220;jam&#8221; the poems and accompany their presentations by music or props of their choice.</p>



<p>Students may also recite poems in another language or poems from their cultural heritage!<br></p>

<p>Nixon’s 5th grade class has teamed up with Goodwill to raise funds for 5th grade promotion events. Bring your donations to Nixon on Saturday, 10/19 from 9 AM to 3 PM, and help us fill the truck!</p>



<p>Goodwill accepts gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, small household items, toys, games, puzzles, books, movies and music, E waste, small electronics at their drives. All items should be under 50 pounds.</p>



<p>Donated goods are sold in area Goodwill stores and online with more than 91% of revenue earned going back into the mission to provide job training and other great programs for people and families in our community.</p>



<p>You get to give items a “second life” and keep them out of landfills &#8211; it’s a win-win! So, clean out your basements, organize your garages, and straighten your closets. It’s time to bring your treasures to the donation drive. The more you bring the more good you do!</p>

<p>WildMind educational programs will bring science and environmental literacy alive next Monday!  Our students will learn to think like scientists, appreciate our connectivity with animals, the environment and each other, while having fun learning science!</p>



<p>There will be intriguing animals who will spark our students’ curiosity and increase their knowledge of California’s wonderful natural history.  Students will gain insights into the secret lives of the intelligent and ecologically important animals that live around us. </p>



<p>This program is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).  </p>

<p>After 10 weeks of studying communication, measurement, and representation of &#8220;information&#8221;, Stanford students from the Information Theory Class, taught by Nixon parent Dr. Tsachy Weismann, will share their findings with the Nixon community through interactive games, performances, activites, and more! Come to explore the beauty and utility of information science and engineering, in a way that is fun for the entire family.</p>
