A dare-devil bride shocked her wedding guests by bungee jumping 130ft from a bridge in a 1950s wedding dress as part of her marriage celebration.

Sarah Wilkinson (nee Bednarek) from Bridge of Cally, Perthshire, only broke the news of her intended leap to stunned family members during the wedding speeches at the Nae Limits Log Cabin.  Hours later, she plunged 40 metres at 50mph from Garry Bridge near Killiecrankie in a Vintage Rockabilly style wedding dress.
Husband Kev (25), family members and bridesmaids cheered on the new Mrs. Wilkinson from below the bungee jump platform.  They were further enthralled when Sarah (28) decided to plummet again, the second time backwards!

“I like doing different things and there’s nothing better than bungee jumping on your wedding weekend, is there?” said Sarah.
“Kev couldn’t even go near the platform; he’s not an extreme sport fan, but I absolutely loved it. My dress was fine for jumping but I did have to detach the underskirt part in order to leap off the platform!”

The unusual addition to the Wilkinsons’ nuptials arose from a conversation between bride Sarah and staff at the couple’s wedding venue, the Nae Limits Log Cabin in Kirkmichael, Perthshire, which specialises in adventure sports packages such as white water rafting and quad biking.
When a bungee jump from Highland Fling Bungee’s platform at Garry Bridge in bridal regalia was mentioned, the idea stuck in Sarah’s mind.
As a wedding gift, the Nae Limits Log cabin crew decided to purchase the bungee jump for the bride.

“It is the first bungee jump I’ve ever done but I thought, why not?
“We wanted a glen wedding, something a bit quirky, and when the Nae Limits Log Cabin team mentioned bungee jumping with Highland Fling Bungee, that was the icing on the cake.
“It was one of those conversations. All I said was that I would bungee jump in my wedding dress and that was it: I was doing it and there was no way back.”

Returning to terra firma, Sarah and Kev will now take to the water for their honeymoon later this week.  The couple are due to head off to the Norwegian fjords on a cruise ship.

Now the Nae Limits Log Cabin in Kirkmichael, formerly the Edelweiss Hotel, is set to revisit the days when the glen resembled a mini-Alpine resort. Accommodation has gone fast but buses will run on request to and from Pitlochry and Blairgowrie to the cabin, which was built from pine wood in 1967 to cater for ski tourists. Number one hits from the cabin’s birth year to the present day will be played at a special disco. There will be a delectable hog roast with seasonal drinks and wire-free Chinese lanterns will be set off at midnight carrying a special wish for 2013 from each Revivalist.  Party-goers are also being asked to dust off ski gear from all eras and wear it on the night- even if there’s none of the white stuff around!

“We’ll be having the aprËs-ski party whether there is snow or not,” smiled John Mason Strang, Nae Limits Log Cabin proprietor and former UK Freestyle ski squad member. ”The event has really grabbed a lot of peoples’ attention and it will bring back a lot of memories for many. There won’t be anything like this anywhere else in the country this New Year.  ”I remember coming up here to some of the ski parties. Walking into the Edelweiss Hotel in the 70s and 80s was like going to aprËs ski clubs in St Anton or Val d’Isere. They were essential and all the ski instructors and chairlift workers used to go.

“The atmosphere was great but, in those days, the ski-ing was so reliable. People planned ski holidays and ski schools and hire places were opening up everywhere.
“The snow might not be as reliable now but the party will certainly have all the elements that people loved.”

The Nae Limits Log Cabin team got in the Edelweiss Revival spirit by getting kitted out in their own ski gear this week. They hope other party-goers will help them recreate the sights and sounds on the 31st December.
“Because it’s a ski theme, we would love to see people embrace it and run with it,” said co-proprietor, Kate Mason Strang.

The Enchanted Forest, Scotland’s Award Winning Sound and Light Show, is back for its 10 year anniversary.  The Enchanted Forest is set in Faskally Woods in Pitlochry and runs from Friday 5^th – Saturday 27^th October.

Two innovative Perthshire businesswomen have teamed up to create the first forest boot camps in the heart of Big Tree Country.  Military-style boot camps were first introduced to Britain from America and were initially like group combat training.  However, these new stress-relieving holidays will also encompass pampering, good food and activities, set in Perthshire’s renowned woodlands.

Glasgow University scientists proved this year that exercising in forests increases mental well-being by as much as 50 per cent compared to gyms.  Woods or green spaces are also known to switch off stress biomarkers or peoples’ responses to stressful situations.

The green boot camp idea is a partnership between entrepreneur Kate Mason-Strang (left) and Perth-based fitness trainer, Sarah-Jayne Hood (right).  Kate, who runs the Nae Limits Log Cabin in Kirkmichael, enlisted Sarah-Jayne of SJH Fitness Services for some outdoor fitness classes for herself.  However, the pair found more common ground- and a business idea- when tramping through the woods in their trainers.

“Lots of people find gyms intimidating so we wanted to show people they can exercise with what’s around them, whether it be logs, fallen trees or benches,” said Sarah-Jayne.
“These green boot camps will be a first for Perthshire and we will be using forest trails and fields as well as doing indoor sessions such as Zumba and toning.
“Although it is a boot camp, there won’t be anything like crawling around in mud. This is more a fitness holiday with everything geared towards peoples’ abilities.”

The Boot camps will take place at the Nae Limits Log Cabin and the first dates have been announced for October and early November, prices from £35pp.  Participants will enjoy healthy meals and woodland training in the scenic forests of the Strathardle river Valley.  However, there will also be an opportunity to try sports massage, rafting and pampering to rest weary limbs after a day in the woods.  Kate Mason-Strang said: “Boot camps are becoming a ‘have to’ activity for many people but we also wanted to combine the idea of letting people relax and chill in lovely surroundings, with healthy food.”

Brave, an animated film set in 10th-century Scotland with voice-overs from stars such as Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly and Robbie Coltrane is set for general release on Monday (13th August).

The story of skilled archer Princess Merida, who battles to undo a curse she brings on her family, is already a major hit following its cinema release on August 3rd.

First Minister Alex Salmond believes the movie could net Scotland as much as £140 million, with global tourists flocking to visit the film locations.

Now the award winning adventure sports group has been selected by the film’s marketing team to offer big screen fans a flavour of the Scotland the film portrays.

The Disney Pixar marketing team contacted Perthshire firms Nae Limits, Nae Limits Log Cabin and Highland Fling Bungee after hearing of their products through VisitScotland.

The companies put together a package to be offered to film fans as a prize through showbiz site, Digital Spy, which is followed by 70 000 people worldwide.

Tender writers worked around key themes of the Brave film such as landscape wildlife, clans, cultures and adventure and their submission was approved.

Disney Pixar executives and the companies believe the package, which includes a two night stay at the scenic Nae Limits Log Cabin, traditional food and entertainment plus bungee jumping and water sport, reflects what Brave is about.

“For us, Brave is about many things but where the real synergies were was with outdoor adventure in spectacular, rugged locations. The landscape animation is awesome in the film and we operate in some of the most photographed locations in Scotland, both in terms of our accommodation at the Nae Limits Log Cabin and with our range of adventure activities. There was an immediate emotional connection based around place,” said John Mason-Strang, Founder of Nae Limits and the Nae Limits Log Cabin, a unique accommodation in the mountains of Highland Perthshire, built entirely of wood.

Murray Trail, Managing Director of Highland Fling Bungee, said: “I don’t think Princess Merida would have been bungee jumping in 10th-century Scotland but, giving her daring personality, we are sure she would have given it a go.

“Our jumping platform is next to the famous ‘Soldier’s Leap’ site at Killiecrankie so it is a place associated with legend and history, which is such a big part of the Brave story.”

The competition on Digital Spy runs until August 22nd.

Chris Laws from Disney Pixar’s UK marketing team said: “We really value the companies’ input because we were looking for something that really encompasses what Brave gets across.

“By the end of the movie, we want people who have never been to Scotland to think they know Scotland. The film animators fell in love with the country and people who participate in this competition have that chance to do the same thing.”
