Want to take a nice art tour? Visit the libraries!
Here’s a reminder about the exhibit that’s up through the end of this week at the New City Library: In the exhibit cases, there is a collection of paintings, war memorabilia and books about the Civil War. All are original pieces from the collection of Rockland Civil War Roundtable President Paul Martin. He’s included samples ranging from cannon balls to rifle parts to life-like portraits of several key members of the divided states.
If you don’t know about Paul Martin’s work, definitely look it up. His Civil War paintings bring that period alive in its pain and its moments of glory.
Also at the New City Library is Harvey Marx’s “Faces in Places” photography. Next up is “Pictures of Israel,” works by Daniel Yoffee.
Over at the Suffern Library, see “Nature Calls,” paintings by Callie Danae Hirsh this week.
At Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, Michael Partis is showing “the beauty of everyday objects.” His technique is to use gesso on masonite to give his oil paintings a 3-D texture. You have to the end of March to see those works.
Put this on your calendar: Reprints of photographs by the famed Margaret Bourke-White are coming to the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library in Garnerville. The topic is pictures from Letchworth Village, taken in 1933.
You’ve got the idea – all it takes is a trip to the library for a rich cultural experience – no admission fee!
Here’s the link to the libraries: www.larclib.org.
