healthy Chocolate Waffles. Children will enjoy eating chocolate as breakfast
thanks to the banana’s added sweetness and some added nutrition. If you’re
craving an extra decadent waffle, you can add mini chocolate chips to the
batter or sprinkle them on top at the end.

In the past, this recipe was called “Banana
Brownie Waffles,” and it’s a family staple you can make with ingredients
you probably already have. The waffle mix can also be used in a standard waffle
maker. I prefer to use a round Belgian Waffle Maker. Adding more milk if you
feel that the batter is getting too thick will help thin it out.

CHOCOLATE WAFFLES: WHAT’S IN THEM?

As parents, we’re big fans of sneaking nutrition
into our kids’ food as much as possible, so we added a few things to this
recipe that will make them healthier.

Several types of flour (all-purpose flour and white
whole wheat flour)

Flaxseeds or wheat germ (if you don’t have either
of these, you can use more flour instead.)

The cocoa powder

The sugary stuff

The baking powder

Spices, ground cinnamon

Salt

Milk

You can make this recipe with bananas that are ripe
(by the way, it is a great way to use them up!)

Eggs

Melted coconut oil or vegetable oil can be
substituted for avocado oil.

Vanilla extract

WAFFLES: TIP FOR A GREAT ONE

In light of the fact that you are making waffles at
this very moment, here are a few tips to help you make the best waffles
possible.

Get in while the iron’s hot! In case your waffles
turn out pale and soft, it may be because the waffle maker you’re using is not
hot enough. Preheating for at least 10 minutes is imperative when using a
waffle maker. That is how long it takes! It is also a good idea to pause
between batches so the iron can reheat.

Butter can be substituted for oil. Instead of
melted butter, use avocado oil or coconut oil in your recipe to make waffles
that are crispier. Because oil does not contain water, it does not add moisture
and does not cause a crust to form.

Don’t throw away those extra waffles! Freeze them!
They can be reheated in a toaster oven or toaster by letting them thaw. The
frozen texture will not be noticeable.

SERVING CHOCOLATE WAFFLES

The possibilities for serving this recipe are
endless. Here are some suggestions:

Sprinkle some peanut butter or almond butter over
it and drizzle some maple syrup over it.

On top of the banana, slice up another banana

Over the top, scatter some berries and sprinkle
with powdered sugar

Serve with some mini chocolate chips sprinkled over
the top. It will please the kids!

Enjoy it alongside a smoothie, a scrambled egg, or
hard-boiled eggs.
