The Macleay River, at the junction with Top Creek, seemed well stocked with fish (and eels).  This set me to wondering if there were once aboriginal fish traps in this area &#8211; I&#8217;m that kangaroo traps were not uncommon nearby.

One of our destinations was the reputed site of a 19th century hut.  We were looking for signs that the flats beside the creek had once seen habitation.  This old camp oven was found nearby, but it could date from a later period.

<p>Bob found an egg; it was lying, cold, on the grass.  We&#8217;ve no idea whether is was laid in that spot, or if some predator had moved it.  If anybody can identify it, we&#8217;d be interested to know what might have laid it.</p>
