The ABA Show of 2009 was exciting, fun and informative. Looks-magazine had an awesome time taking in the creative stylists, latest hairstyles and newest products from nails to skin to hair.

OPI, most popular for its Axxium soak-off Gel Lacquer-long lasting color creates strength for nail enhancement. For 8 years, "I’m not really a waitress" remains its most popular color. The sheer popular colors are bubblebath and passion. The most popular exotic colors (OPI bights) are blow my mind and tangerine dream-younger generation loves since bright and funky. The popular darker colors- lincoln park after dark or lincoln park after midnight-good for people who have shorter nails or those that want a pop. Take your nails to the beach line: the favorite color now is Russian Navy, and Cajun Shrimp. So dive into the ocean and notice how well they stay on!

Products are made in Israel, but this now Canadian Company based in Montreal has been going for 3 years strong. It is called Moroccan Oil, probably because it uses Organ oil which comes from Morocco (where name is based from). All alcohol free, but the signature product is the Oil treatment that is rich is anti-oxidants, and vitamin E, thus nourishing hair. It is used in multiple conditions-such as wet, dry, before or after blow drying, as a mask for all hair textures- thin, thick, short, course, etc.

Schwarzkopf has been in business for 111 years. Right now, last years product is this years news; it's called Dust-It. Unfortunately it sounds like a cleaning product, which may help with their theme of going green. So the key looks that fit into 2009 include a blast from the 80's; remember that dance tight Mohawk look. I can't believe you can't remember that Madonna look or Flash Dance, now that was a popular movie. Those piecy cuts and bright colours really have become popular in 2009. That's just one look! Also popular are "Glamazon," which means soft, sexy and still piecey, as shown off by Iman. As for those rounded warm: geometric, bobs and feminine can work. And there's always Sundays best which is quirky and funky. What makes them different is how they show you how to get trendy hair faster, edgier and how to make it work for you and your personality.

FHI Heat came out in 2003-2004 as a private company with their own label using nano tech. Other companies only use Nano silver-which just kills bacteria in hair but FHI uses Nano fusion (patented to FHI solely): which is 3 Nano particles: Nano silver, Nano titanium, and Nano titanium-oxide: this not only kills bacteria but also takes out toxins (such as: odors, smog, air pollution). A warm spectrum of a fiery sun comes to life in Vibrant Reds through a crescent panel in this color service. The Color Tides technique features tones of red, copper, and gold that go across the head to accentuate a short, layered cut.

Beginning with a crescent panel around the curvature on top of the head, alternate between three color formulas until the entire section is covered. Apply the fourth formula throughout the rest of the hair and process for 30-40 minutes.

PRISMATIC COLOR

Rich chocolates create a seductive multi-dimensional effect.

Faceted like a diamond, light to dark shades from the Deep Browns pillar distinguish the Prismatic Color technique. A triangular placement of color and contrasting shades generate virtual 4D depth for the sultry brunette. This immersion of color suits mid to shoulder length hair.

Hair is sectioned along the natural part into three triangular panels. Within the front panel, color is applied from top to point and continues with back-to-back-slices alternating with the second formula. A second row of triangles below is repeated with the same alternating color formulas. After repeating this process again on the opposite sides of the triangles, the third formula is applied throughout the rest of the hair and processed for 30-40 minutes.

Inspiration:
Charlotte Ronson’s Fall ’09 beauty look is inspired by the combination of bold, serious ‘40s glamour with a rocker femininity that speaks to the consistent playfulness of the designer.

The Hair Look:
To keep this severe ponytail from looking too harsh, Sebastian Professional lead stylist, Thomas Dunkin juxtaposed a taught sleekness over the crown of the head with a natural texture at the back half of the ponytail for an interesting exit. Thomas ironed the first third of hair pin straight and misted a shimmer complex over the top of the head to create a surface shine that dramatizes the smoothness of the hair. Once combed back to a taught ponytail, the hair on the top of the head was smoothed with a shine spray and ultra-firm holding spray to control the look.

Catherine Holstein’s Fall ’09 beauty look evokes a tattered elegance and gothic glamour that seeks to romanticize the after-life. Through purposefully disheveled hair and asymmetrically-placed braids, the natural yet provocative look musters intrigue for these misguided beauties.

The Look:

To help tell the story of a zombie vagabond temptress passing through the night, Sebastian Professional lead stylist, Thomas Dunkin worked a weightless thickener through damp hair from roots to tip. To create the effect of multi-dimensional texture, he set small braids throughout the head and used a diffuser over them until completely dry. Once the braids were taken out and pulled apart, the roots were roughed up using a brushable hairspray and texturizer to fray the silhouette and create an unkempt, yet flirty result. Finish with a light shine styler to add dimension and definition.

Schwarzkopf Professional’s Hairapalooza

The Schwarzkopf Professional’s Hairapalooza was brought blocks north of Yonge and Eglinton on Sunday, October 26th, 2009. It was the 3rd Annual Show, which set stage to offer new stylists, professional stylists, and Jie Matar of Salon Jie (www.jiesalon.com) to perform `magic`. In a matter of minutes (actually 45 minute blocks), we saw two sets of stylists perform cutting, styling, and hairapaloozing the ravished-colorful hair of their models. The two categories were new stylists and professional stylists; they were each given a station to create their masterpieces. They brought with them their own tools and their own creativity. And the creativity was massive! There was so much talent there. Unfortunately, the show only had room for three winners in each category. And we can not forget Jie Matar, who put on a show with four beautiful models, to show off the product BLONDEME by Schwarzkopf. He completed a hair updo in a matter of minutes with the BLONDEME Mousse (also given away in the bag of goodies), perfect for a runway show, maybe en Paris. There were a lot of shocked faces when the winners were announced because if you were there, you know that there was so much talent and creativity oozing in the styles and colors reflected in the models that it must`ve been soooo difficult for the judges to narrow it down. Looking forward to the 4th Annual Schwarzkopf Hairapalooza next year.
