the lineup on this record was such a mish-mash of scumbag hardcores & thrash metal types and it just fucking worked...

(Link will open in new window)

Poison Idea - War All the Time

<img style="display:block; They got bought out and the script went obsolete and for me to tweak it I would have to shell out some $$$. Not that big of a deal, really, but I decided I'd give Blogger a shot at it again, so here it is. Hopefully, no one will have any problems leaving me a word or two.

Slowly but surely I will have this place spiffed up again; it may take me a bit longer than I like - always does- as I have a Hawaii trip scheduled in a week, but knowing me, I'll be geekin' & tweekin' this here site on the fuckin' beach...

UPDATE 10.31.2009

So after a few long nights -and some early mornings- I feel like I've got this place shaped up pretty good.
I managed to track down most of the lost link/friends, moved some shit around, added some other things, etc.
The obsession never ends over here, so don't be surprised if you continue to see more tweaks in the near future.

Thanks for your patience...

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/loresviscera/~3/xgVySmqxsvc/what-fuck.html" title="WHAT. YOU ENJOY LIVE MUSIC, PLEASE READ THIS.

Kind reader (and possible Slim's employee?) Dylan sent me this earlier today. I've been aware of the situation as well, and was prompted by him to post this. It doesn't take much - a couple of emails at least. Support in numbers helps...

Entertainment Lovers,

The Board of Supervisors Committee Chairman Bevan Dufty has moved the hearing on legislation designed to strengthen the Entertainment Commission to Monday, October 26 th at 1:00PM in room 263 of City Hall. There will NOT be a hearing on Monday, October 19th as announced earlier. This change works in our favor because it gives us another week to get the word out to our friends and supporters and more time to send emails to the Supervisors and the Mayor. We regret the confusion this change makes, it is not a decision that was in our control…..so let's use this time to our advantage. Spread the word far and wide!

As you may have heard, there have been recent attacks that threaten the future of entertainment in San Francisco. Anti-entertainment groups are pushing hard to “severely restrict music and shut down nightlife” and the fate of your favorite venue may be at risk. We need you to do two things: 1) send an email to the Mayor and Board of Supervisors, and 2) come to the hearing on Monday, October 26th at 1:00PM in room 263 of City Hall.

The October 26 th hearing at City Hall is regarding amendments to SF Police Code 1060 (Place of Entertainment) and SF Police Code 1070 (Extended Hours Premises). These are the two main laws that govern Entertainment Venues in SF and are administered by the Entertainment Commission.

The Entertainment Commission was created in 2002 to take responsibility for the granting and oversight of entertainment and late night permits. Before the Entertainment Commission, the granting, oversight, and enforcement of these permits were all done by the police. Separating the authority was seen as a way to give citizen stakeholders a place in the decisions around entertainment. Enforcement remained with the Police and the granting and oversight was given to the Entertainment Commission.

Two years ago the Mayor's office and the Entertainment Commission convened a “Nighttime Safety Summit” to hear recommendations from the entertainment community and the Police Department on how to strengthen the role of the Entertainment Commission in rewarding well managed venues and disciplining problem venues that were making the industry look bad. The legislation that is being heard on Monday Oct. 26 th comes from that summit and will give the Entertainment Commission emergency suspension powers to more quickly address a problem venue and the ability to write infraction tickets for lesser offences, like poorly managed lines in front to a venue or repeatedly leaving the door open causing a noise disturbance.

To help insure that our community's support of the Entertainment Commission is heard please do one, or hopefully both, of the following:

1) We need folks to send an email to the committee members of the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor's office asking that they support the legislation strengthening the Entertainment Commission.

PLEASE SEND EMAILS TO:
gavin.newsom@sfgov.org
David.Chiu@sfgov.org
Bevan.Dufty@sfgov.org
Chris.Daly@sfgov.org
Sean.Elsbernd@sfgov.org

USE THE SUBJECT LINE:
SUPPORT 1060 / 1070 WITHOUT MORATORIUM

And/or:

2) Please show up on Monday, October 26th at 1:00PM at room 263 in City Hall and speak for a minute or two in support of the Entertainment Community and the Commission that was set up to regulate it. Even if you do not want to speak, your attendance will make a statement.

Here are some talking points to start from:

a) Every Week San Francisco hosts regional, national and international tourists who support our local economy. Hundreds of thousands of people come and go enjoying the sights, food and entertainment that this city is famous for with few problems. Keep that success and give the Entertainment Commission the authority to regulate the few problems that we do have.

b) I go out to ______(favorite place)________ several times a month. I enjoy my time with friends listening to music and dancing. I feel safe and secure and thank the Entertainment Commission for doing its job. If there ever is a problem, I want the commission to act quickly to keep the city's venues safe.

c) I work at ___________ and have seen the positive work of the Entertainment Commission. An example is when this happened____________________. Keep the commission strong.

d) The Entertainment Commission gives venues enforceable steps to become good neighbors. The Entertainment Commission has mandated more soundproofing, plus fire, electrical and building safety upgrades than at any other time in the city's history. Subsequent employment of thousands of contractors has been an ancillary boon.

e) Entertainment Commission has the only staff in the city that can test for sound complaints and ensure both compliance of good neighbor policy and fairness to venues. If anything, the Entertainment Commission's staff should be augmented, not disbanded.

f) Fewer venues and fewer local jobs at a critical time in our economic history. Venues are labor-intensive, and almost completely locally staffed. Every dollar spent on labor in an entertainment venue returns over two dollars to the local economy.

g) San Francisco has more small and locally operated street fairs and festivals than any city in the US. They employ thousands, entertain hundreds of thousands and bring millions into city coffers, plus massive hotel and restaurant income. The Entertainment Commission is part of the success of street fair culture.

Thanks for making this hearing a success and showing the support for entertainment that is part of San Francisco life.

Sincerely,

- Slim's & back in the day before this British Punk Icon hawked butter to the masses, John Lydon had a pretty remarkable band that sounded like no one else.

Here's a kick-ass live recording from a roller rink I used to go to as a kid now & then.
This was a bit before my time - I was 12 when this was recorded - but the most amazing part of it (besides how fucking GOOD the music is) Dean Johnson - the original rhythm section of Poison Idea - formed after leaving "The Kings of Punk".

Not wandering far from the formula they subscribed to in that legendary band, they teamed up with a drunken howler named Peter & another hot-shit sausage-fingered six-string motherfucker named Ian on guitar.
In three short years they recorded 3 full-lengths & various singles - oh yeah - they were actually called "Mule" to begin with, but lost the rights to the "fake redneck" band from that farm town, er, collegiate bastion for rich kids known as Ann Arbor, MI.

While they may not be a name alot of people recognize, they had their moments in the (s)limelight.
This collection is somewhat spotty, but at the same time, these guys were definitely a "live party band" - you can hear it for sure - and I can attest to that as I saw them live in 1994 at the Paris Theater in downtown Portland.
After the show I decided to head over to Burnside Project for "one last run" and - as is par for the course - I ended up breaking my arm in the process. That's kind of how this band goes as well - always on the edge, and definnitely worth a listen or two.

(Link will open in new window)

Apartment 3G - Shit No One Wants To Hear

If anybody has any other material from these guys, would you mind sending me a rip?
I got cleaned out of my vinyl collection of these guys a few years ago, thanks.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 224px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WnR6fSqfHiU/SrWOlL-siJI/AAAAAAAACCY/be6TzWbkRP8/s400/APT3Gcd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383365699113355410" />

VOIVOD.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 294px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WnR6fSqfHiU/Sq3CiQZHAeI/AAAAAAAACCQ/bggg7juHjHU/s400/VOIVODlive.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381171023549235682" />

Found this one recently via some BT action, and I'm pretty stoked as I was at this show.

Not alot I can tell you about it, but I do remember that also on this bill were Soundgarden & Danzig -(WTF!?!)- and the only band I watched that night was Voivod, so I can tell you that they were pretty amazing.

The shitty part is that this show went down during the heyday of Soundgarden's recent major-label signing, so the metalheads weren't really there - it was a ton of grunge-wimps & their chicks lookin' to get a glimpse of Chris Cornell's little-boy chest...

What I do remember is this:
1). Smoking down in the sub-zero temps in the back lot of St. Andy's -(an amazing place to see a band, for sure, one of the best without a doubt).
2). Drinking Black Label from a frosted half-shell at the old-man bar next door to St. Andrew's (that I can no longer for the life of me remember the name of), before gulping down some mushrooms with John Brannon (in the Laughing Hyenas at the time) in the bathroom before heading back to St. Andy's for Voivod.

They melted my face off, yes, Voivod did.
So did the mushrooms, of course.

But what about Danzig, you say?
Well, I can't remember because if shit-memory serves me right, I had taken off w/ Swanky Jim (from Cum Dumpster) & his girlfriend Peg (from the Gories) to go smoke some hash at their place.
She later threw a knife at me, barely missing my foot.
Good times.
I guess I do remember a few things from that night, huh.

Listening to this set -nineteen fucking years later HOLY SHIT- I'd have to say it was a ripper for sure, and I gotta tell ya I really, really, miss bands like this, times like that, the old crew, etc.

Enjoy.

(Link will open in new window)

Voivod - 01.13.1990 St. Andrew's Hall, Detroit, MI

<img style="display:block; Eva Genie, on the other hand, can seriously belt it out in a throat-shredding fashion that doesn't sound contrived or wimpy, and while they may not be the most original (the sub-genre itself is musically limited in many ways but is very enjoyable when done properly), they create a powerful dynamic that works well - especially with the choice of segue samples, etc.

They may not have been the greatest musicians, but the passion is what drove this band, and one can only wonder what they would sound like if they stayed together.

It's fucking hardcore, ya know? They've usually been pretty stable, but in the past few months, every now & then, they start adding pop-up bullshit - not just your typical ads - and the only way to get out of it is to reboot.
It is fucking LAME and I am sorry for the inconvienience.

I have - (sorta) sadly - decided to no longer use the service.
If they went to a paid-user system to make it ad-free for you guys, I would gladly pay for the service to NOT crash your shit every time you try to access a link through them - ARE YOU LISTENING, LINK-PROTECTOR.COM?

In the meantime, if you are having trouble accessing ANY of the links on the L-R V, just email me directly - my email is in the side bar - and I will send you a direct link.

Maybe someday I will go back and move each link, but the real world affords me much less time for this than I'd like.
I give a fuck about what I put out there AND what my readers are up to - I love hearing from you guys - so let me know if there's anything I can do to make to make your Lo-Res Viscer(al) experience "just that much better".

*Thanks for listening*

BLACK FLAG.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 387px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WnR6fSqfHiU/Sn-ZGKy9eMI/AAAAAAAACAw/Ts5ad6D9VUo/s400/BLKFLGlive.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368177612105283778" />

Here's an excellent-sounding live-in-the-studio/interview FM broadcast for your collection.
As usual, I made you some choice artwork, etc.
The band plays a tight set with Kira on bass - this was recorded shortly after MY WAR was released. Sometimes a cool picture to fuck with inspires the post - what can I say, I love to fuck around in Photoshop!

I've made some cool friends with this blog, as well as made some contacts with some of the bands; also just as important is the fact that ALL the blogs I have linked to in the sidebar I can honestly say are great people who share the same lust for music that I do.
We don't all have the same taste - mine is questionable on most days - but that's what makes "the hunt" so fun, right?

Anyways, I'm gonna go back to my ice cream before it all melts, but I thought I'd say THANK YOU to those of you who stop by - your comments are always appreciated!
While I may not always reply to the dialogue, I certainly enjoy the stories that you share with me, and that in turn has inspired many a post here as well - keep those comments/suggestions coming!

THANK YOU FOR VISITING THE SICKNESS THAT IS LO-RES VISCERA.

(There's more to come).

SUFFER.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 253px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WnR6fSqfHiU/Sm0aGdQMrhI/AAAAAAAACAQ/JD1k8M5Fklo/s400/SFFRlive.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362971429502234130" />

Sweden has produced some of the best - as well as some of the worst - death metal throughout the years.
This next record falls under the "some of the best" category.

Suffer were a short-lived act, putting out a handful of demos & EP's prior to recording "Structures", their only full length (which was to be their final release).

While it was recorded by Tomas Skogsberg at the infamous Sunlight Studios, it does not have "that sound". These guys created a sound they could call their own, and there's a bit of a "hardcore" feel/approach to much of the songwriting.
