This recipe brought back a lot of happy memories. When I was a little girl, we often had traditional bruschetta at family dinners. My grandmother made a killer bruschetta with a toasted baguette toped with diced roma tomatoes marinated in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and basil. Mmmmm.

Well, this is a creative recipe for Grilled Cherry Tomato Bruschetta that is easy to make. It’s a wonderful appetizer or (in my case) a main course.

We’re featuring this recipe by Sue of The View From Great Island for a number of reasons. It’s a quick and easy dish to grill. It’s healthy. And we were blown away by the beautiful food photography.

Sue explains how to prepare and skewer the cherry tomatoes. She uses a grill pan on the stove for cooking the marinated tomatoes. However, you could easily grill the skewered tomatoes on an outdoor grill. I think I would marinate the tomatoes for a bit before skewering them, if I used an outdoor grill. Sue provides easy-to-follow directions on slicing, preparing and grilling the baguette. Combine the grilled tomatoes and baguette with a particular cheese and herb and you have a wonderful appetizer or complete meal

This is a recipe by Nagi of the Recipe Tin Eats site. She focuses on fast, clever, and creative meals made with fresh ingredients. You can make this delicious Chinese beef with honey and black pepper sauce in 15 minutes! Start to finish. Done deal

The dish uses thinly sliced flank, rump, sirloin, fillet or any other cut of steak suitable for stir frying. You stir fry the beef with onions and garlic and then add the sauce. I have to say the sauce looks fantastically delicious and is made with honey and several other interesting ingredients. It’s peppery, sweet and salty.

I selected this recipe because it’s quick and easy, as well as delicious. I also love Nagi’s cooking philosophy, the simplicity of her recipes, and the wonderful spirit that she shares in her posts. You’ll also find clear directions, wonderful photographs, and nutritional information.

I’ve heard a number of different stories about the origins of the Coca Cola cake. One was that Coca cola was promoted as an alternative to sugar during World War II. However, if it was hard to get sugar back then, I’m not sure it would have been easier to get Coca Cola.

Another story said that Coca Cola wanted to expand into a newer market of baking in order to improve sales. That seems more likely. If you know the real story, please leave a comment.

Whatever the history, Coca Cola cakes are moist and delicious. They’ve always been really popular, especially in the South. I know that vintage Coca Cola cake recipes also used a little of the soft drink (and sometimes sea salt) in the frosting as well. Yum!

This recipe by the Six Sisters uses Coca Cola, cocoa, sugar, flour, eggs, buttermilk, marshmallows and more! It’s really a pretty easy cake to make and I can almost guarantee you and your family will love it!

In this article, Alice shares 10 steps that will help you to bake the perfect cake. Some of these are practical, common sense things you’d normally do. Others are helpful tips you might not be aware of.

I think one of the best suggestions is to select a recipe from a book, author, or website that you trust. Usually when we get a recipe from a friend or relative, we know that it’s a kitchen-tested recipe. So I would add that it’s smart to look for recipes that are marked as “kitchen-tested.” For online sites check out any user comments that have been added to the recipe. They can be really helpful.

Alice shares some great tips about positioning the oven racks, depending on the number of cakes you’re baking. She also covers pan rotation, measuring ingredients, the temperature of ingredients, how to best remove a cake from the pan and more. Alice also shares a lot of useful links.

One thing that I found interesting in this post on davidlebovitz.com is the discussion of how dietary habits are evolving in France. Vegetarianism and healthy eating aren’t yet as popular as in some other countries. But some younger people are exploring raw foods, quinoa and other healthier food options. And more French restaurants are offering Vegetarian and Vegan menu options.

Traditional foie gras is made with the liver of a duck or goose that has been fattened through force feeding. Although considered a delicacy in France, many people refuse to eat it because of animal cruelty issues.

This is a plant-based version adapted from a recipe by Rebecca Leffler. It uses lentils, mushrooms, garlic, butter, nuts, onions, soy sauce or tamari, herbs, spices, and other ingredients. You’ll find it titled Faux Gras or imitation foie gras. It’s a very easy chop, saute and combine in a food processor recipe. I especially liked the serving suggestions. Also, David provides substitutions for a Vegan or Gluten-free version.

The classic Monte Cristo is made with thinly sliced ham and Gruyère or Emmentel cheese. The sandwich is then dipped in an egg batter and pan or deep fried. It’s essentially ham and cheese on French toast. Yum!

However, Kendra throws in a wonderful variation. She adds raspberry jam and a particular mustard. You end up with a savory-sweet sandwich that’s delicious! I’ve enjoyed Monte Cristo sandwiches with raspberry dipping sauces. But cooking the jam into the sandwich is so much better!

When I make these at home, I try to resist the temptation of using too much butter for frying the sandwich. You don’t want an overly greasy sandwich.

This is a recipe from Sue of The View from Great Island. I have become a real fan of both her site and her recipes. I first saw this recipe back in January. Since then I have made the hot version during the winter and the iced version just recently during some 80+ degree weather we had. I love both versions! The tea smells wonderful and is really energizing.

I also like the recipe because it’s quick and easy to make. Sue’s directions are simple and easy to follow. If you’d like a stronger mint taste, Sue has a tip for that too.
