Virtual Font Folder Updated

Virtual Font Folder 1.04 has been released. Virtual Font Folder can synchronize your installed fonts with fonts in another folder or network share. When a font is added to the watched folder, it will be copied to your Windows Fonts folder and installed. When a font is removed from the watched folder, it will also be uninstalled from your Windows Fonts folder. This update adds support for Adobe Type 1 fonts. Our font synchronization tool, Virtual Font Folder, was updated to 1.02 last week. This neat utility watches a local or networked folder for new fonts and synchronize your workstation with the contents of that folder. Lose Your Mind Development is pleased to announce the availability of a new font-related system utility: Virtual Font Folder.

Virtual Font Folder adds a second Fonts folder to your Windows XP system. TrueType fonts added to this folder are automatically installed in Windows. If a font is removed from the watched folder, it will be uninstalled. This is useful for watching a network drive or shared volume for new fonts. System administrators can use this to make sure a common set of fonts is installed on multiple PCs on a network. Check out the features on the Virtual Font Folder page. Changes for the New Year

The new year brings a few changes to Lose Your Mind Development. The web site has moved to a new server at HostMySite.com. (They are great!) Now that the site is on a new server, I hope to update the content more frequently. I will also be setting up a blog to issue daily updates.

I am also working on a new version of Printer's Apprentice. The code is being rewritten using the .NET Framework from Microsoft. I don't have a release date yet, so watch the web site for news.

Our servers had some maintenance done back in May. The web forms for Registration Code Requests and Technical Support were broken in the process and we did not realize it until today. If you sent us email using these forms and have not received a reply, please accept our apologies. Bryan is now combing through the unsent requests and trying to get back to customers. And the forms are working now.

Workaround for Bug In 7.54

Printer's Apprentice 7.54 that can cause the program to crash on startup. This occurs right after it initially reads all the fonts. We are working on a fix for the problem that will be released in PA 7.55. In the meantime, a work around may be found on the Frequently Asked Questions page.

New site design

We are proud to unveil our new site design. Our new site was developed and hand-coded by Bryan while he was working on FontReview 2.6. The site is powered on the backend using Active Server Pages. The client end is pure HTML 4.0. It does take advantage of many HTML 4.0-specific tags, so it does not look best with Netscape 4.x or AOL browsers. Sorry. (Netscape needs to get its act together.)

Internet Explorer or Opera is highly recommended.

We have also posted information about a new product, FontReview 2.6. FontReview is an update of a product that we used to sell for Windows 3.1. It is been freshened up and improved for the Windows 95/98/NT/2000 platforms. Visit the FontReview product page for more information.

We found a small bug in Printer's Apprentice 7.11. If the Arial font is not installed on your system, PA will fail to start with a "General Protection Fault in module <unknown>" error message. We have isolated and fixed this bug. A fix for this will be coming soon. Until then, the work around is to simply install the Arial font from your Windows CDs.
