Hey everyone! It's been a while, hasn't it? Hope you've all been well.

The domain for this blog is due for renewal soon, and I've been trying to think of a way to keep it alive, for at least one more year. The thing I've come up with is to ask you if you have any questions about Lost. Do you wonder about the Polar Bears, time travel, the Dharma food drops? Anything you feel wasn't explained well enough in the show, I'll try my best to answer it for you.

Leave a comment on this post with your question and I'll write a post about it with (hopefully) the answer!

I set it up as I felt the ending of Lost wasn't what it could have been and I knew some of the members of Theories On Lost might be interested in the site as they still have loads of ideas and theories about the show.

The premise is you can write your own ending. You could re-write the whole of season 6, or just the last ten minutes of The End. You can also write about what happens afterwards, like Hurley & Bens adventures on the island or what happens when Claire goes home to Aaron etc.

Once the site becomes more popular I will also create monthly contests which are based on a certain subject or theme (eg. Write a story/episode that explains Walt's appearance to Locke, or a story/episode that explains what's in Ben's mysterious box etc.)

There are already a few posts written on there by some of the members which are all worth a read. Be sure to stop by! x

First of all, I'd just like to say thank you for reading this blog. I haven't written reviews since The Lighthouse, mainly through lack of time, but I also didn't feel very inspired to continue. I've loved Lost since The Pilot and thought every season was amazing, and even though I fully enjoyed season 6 too, I just didn't feel as compelled to write about it as I had before.

That being said, I feel it's only right that I write about my thoughts on The End. It's a way for me to say goodbye to what has been an amazing ride. And even though my feelings about The End aren't as positive as most, I'll never forget how amazing the show was before that.

First of all, I’d just like to say thank you for reading this blog. I haven’t written reviews since The Lighthouse, mainly through lack of time, but I also didn’t feel very inspired to continue. I’ve loved Lost since The Pilot and thought every season was amazing, and even though I fully enjoyed season 6 too, I just didn’t feel as compelled to write about it as I had before.

That being said, I feel it’s only right that I write about my thoughts on The End. It’s a way for me to say goodbye to what has been an amazing ride. And even though my feelings about The End aren’t as positive as most, I’ll never forget how amazing the show was before that.

Without further adieu

I have to admit I was really dissapointed with The End. Actually, I was enjoying it very much up until Christian Shepherd appeared. Up until that point I thought the episode was amazing. But then we find out that the “Flash Side Ways” is a form of afterlife, something that that particular group of people created so that they could “move on”. It didn’t make sense to me.

Now, I’m not one who wanted all the answers. I’d have been quite happy for the show to end with mystery still surrounding it, something to keep us talking and theorizing about it for years, and even though there are alot of unanswered questions, The End didn’t give us any meaning for those questions. There was no resolution as to what we’ve been witnessing over the last 6 years. I was looking for an end that gave the mysteries a purpose, an end that would make me want to re-watch from The Pilot and spot clues, or to confirm that the writers knew what they were doing all along.

It feels like this was just thrown in at the last minute because they couldn’t give it any real “closure”. All those questions, all those mysteries, were for nothing.

Afterall, the “Flash Side Ways” was only introduced to us in Season 6. This season could have been so much better had they focused more on giving us closure on already established mysteries, instead of introducing us to a new mystery that was the “Flash Side Ways”. Fair enough, we know now what that is, but why introduce it in the first place? It had no purpose, no reason. Everything we’ve seen up until Season 5 didn’t relate to what we’ve seen in Season 6. It didn’t match. I honestly believe that Season 6 could be a standalone season and Seasons 1-5 are better off without it.

I know there are alot of fans who loved the ending, and they are entitled to their opinion, much as I am mine.

I fail to understand why The End was perceived as the best possible ending for Lost. They all died. They were in the afterlife. They were “living” in the afterlife but not with each other. As soon as they remembered everything they had no time to “live” with each other. They had to move on. So what was the point?

I think it’s safe to say that I could go on forever about how dissapointed I was with The End. It isn’t because I expected answers, it’s because The End didn’t give the island and its mysteries a purpose.

Lost has been my favourite show since it started, I was hooked from the very beginning, but now I’m not even sure I’d want to watch it again. And that makes me sad.

What lies in the shadow of the statue? Certainly not he who will save us all…

Namaste x

HURLEY: What. What is that?
JACK: It’s my house. It’s the house I grew up in.
HURLEY: Oh. That’s weird.
JACK: Haven’t lived in that house since I was a kid. He’s been watching. The whole time. All of us. He’s been watching us.

It’s interesting that the images seen in the mirror before Jack sees his house are places Jacob met with other passengers from Flight 815. We see a glimpse of the church where Jacob meets Sawyer at his parents funeral, and we see a glimpse of the Korean building where Jacob met Jin and Sun when they were married.

In Jack’s instance, however, he is shown his house. This isn’t the place where Jacob met Jack, so if we’re to go with the idea that the mirror represents the place where Jacob met them, then perhaps 23 Shephard isn’t for Jack. Perhaps it’s for his father, Christian.

Of course, the mirror could also represent significant times in people’s lives: Sawyer at his parents funeral; Jin and Suns wedding. Perhaps the house represents a significant part of Jacks life that defines the person he is today. So maybe, the 23 Shephard is for Jack.

Whoever it is, Jacob knew how Jack would react to seeing this image and knew the mirror at the Lighthouse would bear the brunt. This begs the question, who does the Lighthouse belong to? Jacob or Flocke? The obvious answer would be that it belongs to Jacob: the numbers and the names are the same as what Flocke showed to Sawyer in the cave, two of the places in the mirror are where Jacob met with our Losties etc. The only flaw in this is why would Jacob want the mirror to be smashed? Was it because he didn’t want Flocke to see the images in the mirror? Perhaps Flocke isn’t aware of everyone who is a “candidate” and this mirror would allow him to find out who is.

Of course, the mirror and the caves could belong to Flocke and he’s pulling a “Long Con” over our and Sawyers eyes… Perhaps ;)

Is someone really coming to the island?

JACOB: I’m here because I need you.
HURLEY: For what?
JACOB: You should probably get a pen, you’re going to have to write a few things down.
HURLEY: What kind of things?
JACOB: Someone’s coming to the island. I need you to help them find it.

You have to wonder if anyone is actually coming to the island or whether Jacob made it up as a ruse to get Hurley and Jack out of the Temple. Given that Jacob knew that Jack would smash the mirror, it would seem that it was just a lie, but given what we know about who is currently “Off Island”, and who the Island “Isn’t finished with yet”, I’ll have to take a guess that perhaps Desmond is on his way.

How, or why, or when is another mystery, but we all know Desmond is special, and with his presence on the Alt Flight 815 and his seemingly dissapearing act, I’d say he may be more intuned with the Island now. Perhaps the Desmond that is on his way is from the Alt Universe. Maybe.

Another “candidate” would be Walt. He was perceived as someone who had special powers as well. Unfortunately, because the events from Seasons 1 – 4 happened over a 3 month period, it was difficult for Walt to remain a part of the story line as he was growing up far more faster than his character. That’s not to say it would impossible for him to return now. 3 years have passed so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to bring him back.

Crazy Claire

JIN: Claire, how do you know they took him? How can you be so sure?
CLAIRE: How can I be so sure? Well, first my father told me, and then my friend told me, so I’m pretty damn sure.
JIN: Your friend? Who’s your friend?

We’ve been told Claire has been “claimed” and that a darkness has grown inside of her. However, she still seems to have her memories in tact, she recognises Jin, and is on the warpath because she thinks The Others took Aaron.

Looking back at Season 4 Episode “Cabin Fever” would suggest that Claire and Christian left Aaron behind because he wasn’t supposed to be on the island.

CLAIRE: Hi, John.
LOCKE: What’re you doing here?
CLAIRE: Don’t worry. I’m fine. I’m with him.
LOCKE: Wh–where’s the baby?
CHRISTIAN: The baby’s where he’s supposed to be, and that’s not here.

They left Aaron at the foot of a tree by himself, so was that purely because they couldn’t take him into the Cabin, and that’s what Christian meant when he said “The baby’s where he’s supposed to be, and that’s not here”. Were they expecting to go back to that tree and find him still there and play happy families? I doubt that.

Both of them must’ve known Aaron would have been found by someone. Perhaps they thought it was The Others, and not Kate? I guess they could’ve assumed that if anyone would take Aaron it would be The Others due to their past Kidnapping exploits.

But if you throw Flocke into the mix… you know, Claire’s friend…

LOCKE: Am I interrupting?
JIN: John?
CLAIRE: That’s not John. This is my friend.

… Then he must know that Kate took Aaron off the Island. He seems to have Locke’s memories and we know Locke visited Kate when he was on his “Bring Back the O6″ mission. So why has Flocke also told Claire that The Others have him?

Well, the obvious answer is because he wants The Others dead and needs as many people on his side as possible. He’s manipulating her and doing a great job of it.

CLAIRE: Thank you Jin, thank you. And I’m so glad to know you were lying because…if what you said was the truth, if Kate was raising Aaron…I’d kill her.

I have a feeling it will be handbags at dawn when these two finally reunite.

The Alt Timeline

Well, Jack has a teenage son called David. We don’t know who his mother is, but we do know he is an expert pianist was afraid of his dad thinking he was a failure. I guess that gene is passed down to father and son. We also find out that Jack had his appendix out when he was 7 or 8 years old. This is significant because in the Original Timeline Juliet took out Jacks appendix on the Island.

There are 2 major changes in Jacks life: having his appendix out when he was a boy, and that he has a son himself.

I was wondering whether Jack having his appendix out happened before the bomb blew up in 1977. This would suggest that the bomb wasn’t responsible for the alternate timeline. But then I got to thinking that perhaps Jacks Appendix burst on the day the bomb went off. In 1977, there is time traveller Jack on the island and a younger version of himself off the island. Perhaps when the bomb went off part of his older self merged with his younger self when the Alt Timeline was created, therefore because time traveller Jack had already had his Appendix out, it caused a problem for his younger, alternate self, which is why he had his Appendix out when he was 7 or 8 in the Alt Timeline.

Of course, with this change comes loads of other changes in his life, a Butterfly Effect if you will (if you haven’t seen the film the Butterfly Effect I highly recommend it), and that could be what caused him to have a son.

I’m not sure who the mother could be. I speculated in my first review from Season 6, that Jack had saved Shannon’s fathers life rather than Sarahs so if I still go along with this then Sarah would be dead and they would’ve met a good few years after David was born. But, perhaps if a lot of things are different in this Alternate Timeline, then perhaps the car crash with Shannon’s father and Sarah didn’t even happen. Perhaps Jack met Sarah a good few years before that would’ve happened, and maybe she is Davids mum.

In the original timeline Jack married Sarah but it ended up in divorce. Some things may remain the same in this alternate timeline, perhaps Jack did marry Sarah but despite having a son together, it still ended up in divorce.

Is David Special? Was he supposed to be? Is David coming to the island?

Flocke wanted Richard to go with him, perhaps because he needs someone with him to be able to go home. As Richard refused, it seems Sawyer has taken his place. A substitute.

Flocke and Richard

RICHARD: What do you want?
LOCKE: What I’ve always wanted. For you to come with me.

I found this exchange a little odd. Yes, it’s a certainty that Flocke and Richard have history, but he said it in a way that almost suggests they were once friends. Richard is obviously petrified of Flocke, and that could be because Richard had a hand in turning Flocke into Smokey and/or trapping him, and is now worried about how Flocke will retaliate.

I doubt Flocke had any intention of rekindling any friendship with Richard, but it’s interesting that they possibly could’ve been friends at some point in their very long lives.

RICHARD: Don’t be naive! He’s not gonna tell you anthing, he’s gonna kill you!
SAWYER: If he wanted to kill me he could have done it a dozen times already…
RICHARD: You don’t understand what you’re dealing with! He doesn’t just want you dead, he wants everyone dead! Everyone you care about! All of ‘em! And he won’t stop–

Does Richard know for sure that Flocke wants everyone dead? Has Flocke done something like this before? Or is it because the people Sawyer cares about are “Candidates”? It seems that whoever is a Candidate will take over Jacobs role: will that mean they gain Jacob’s powers? If someone takes the role of Jacob does that mean Flocke will be unable to leave the island, and thus have to find himself another “loophole”?

If so, then it seems most definate to me that he’d want all the Candidates dead. Perhaps he’s pulling a Long Con on Sawyer?

The Candidates

SAWYER: “Shephard”. That Jack Shephard?
LOCKE: He’s not the only one.
SAWYER: Reyes. That’s Hugo, right? What’s the eight about?
LOCKE: Jacob had a thing for numbers. Sixteen, Jarrah. Forty-Two, Kwon; I don’t know if its Sun or if its Jin. And here, four, Locke. I think we both know him. Last but not least, number 15, Ford. That would be you.

There were a whole load of names written on the wall with their names crossed off, but the main focus was that of Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Jin or Sun, Locke and Sawyer. Of course, the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 play a role – although to what end remains to be seen. Interestingly, Kates name wasn’t on the wall, yet she was one of the ones who Jacob had touched – is this significant?

Another thing I’ve been thinking about since the episode aired is who Jacob touched and when. If, when the bomb blew up, it caused the island to sink that would mean that everyone on the island would’ve died. That would include Jacob.

Anytime after 1977 Jacob wouldn’t have been around to visit each of our Losties, except for one, who he had visited in 1976: Sawyer.

SAWYER: My folks died when I was 8 years old. I ever tell you that?
JACK: No.
SAWYER: Con man took my dad for everything he had. He didn’t deal with it very well. He shot my mom, then he blew his own head off. I was hiding under the bed when it happened. I heard the whole thing.
JACK: I’m sorry.
SAWYER: Yeah. That was a year ago.
JACK: What?
SAWYER: Right now it’s July 1977, which means that happened last year. So I could’ve hopped on the sub, gone back to the States, walked right in my house and stopped my daddy from killing anybody.

Jacob visited Sawyer at his parents funeral and gave him a pen to finish the infamous letter to the real Sawyer. That means in both timelines Jacob gave Sawyer a push toward the island.

He also visited Kate when she was around ten years old. I’m not sure how old Kate is, but if she is around 25 years old in 2004, that would make Jacobs visit to her be in 1989.

So, the only person to be touched by Jacob in both timelines is Sawyer, which I think makes Sawyer the strongest “Candidate”, and also the strongest “Substitute”.

The boy

There are two strong “candidates” for who the boy is: either an older Aaron, or a younger Jacob. How or why though, I cannot even begin to ponder. His clothes suggest that he could be a younger Jacob, and that it is a manisfestation. Flocke seemed to recognise who he was, so I’m going to go with it being Jacob. That being said, if it is a mansifestation, does that mean the manisfestations we’ve seen previously (Yemi, Christian) aren’t Smokey? The mind boggles.

It could be argued that the boy is just a different character altogether, and in the past theories that such-a-person is such-a-person have never come true, so the same could be said here. BUT, the fact that Flocke recognised him and he was dressed the way he was hints that this could be Jacob.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

At the end of the episode we see Claire all “Rousseau” with her shotgun and traps, but what exactly has happened to her in the 3 years since we saw her last. Does she still know who she is? When we last saw her she was in the Cabin with her “zombie” father Christian. She looked at ease and didn’t seem to care too much that she’d left her baby at the foot of a tree by himself. Had the darkness taken over completely by this stage? If so, then it won’t be long before Sayid is taken over completely.

As Christian was with Claire it’s safe to assume that he has also been “claimed” by this Darkness. This suggests that only dead bodies can be “claimed”, which means Claire must’ve died in the house blast in Season 4.

Burying the dead?

AMY: We have to bury them.
SAWYER: Bury them? We ain’t got time to bury nobody.

Is this the reason The Others / Dharma are so keen on burying the dead as to not have their bodies “claimed”. But if that’s the case, why dump all the Dharma folk in that mass grave?

Who else could’ve been “claimed” in the past 5 seasons? Well, we know Rousseau’s team had an encounter with Smokey near The Temple, and that she was of the impression that they’d been “infected”. Everyone except Rousseau went into the hole in the wall so chances are they died down there and then were “claimed”. They were still the same people, but they had a darkness inside of them.

Crazy Rousseau perhaps wasn’t that crazy when she shot her team. She knew something wasn’t quite right with them.

When Dogen told Jack that the poison pill will only work if Sayid takes it willingly, was this just a lie to get Jack to give it to him? Or would it really have only been effective if Sayid had taken it willingly? If so, why was Rousseau able to kill her team, and The Others not able to kill Sayid? To make this situation as simple as possible, I’m going to go with Dogen lied to Jack about him having to take it willingly.

That doesn’t answer why they don’t just shoot and kill him though. Maybe the poison is the only way to kill a “claimed” body without it being “claimed” again. But if that’s true, then how did Rousseau kill her team? Unless they weren’t “claimed”. But if they weren’t “claimed” why was Rousseau so adamant that they were “infected”. I guess I’m going round in circles here so I’ll leave this for the time being.

Are the bodies that are being “claimed” on the same side as MIB/Flocke? I’d say they were but separate entities. We’ve seen that MIB/Flocke replicates a persons body and doesn’t “claim” it. I guess the bodies that are being “claimed” will be used as MIB/Flockes army in the upcoming war.

Alternate Universe Course Correcting

In the Alternate Universe Kate takes Claire to the house of the couple who were going to adopt her baby. Unfortunately, the womans husband had left her and wasn’t willing to bring up a baby alone.

This means that Claire will be left to raise her baby. Much like Richard Malkin advised Claire to take Flight 815 in the original timeline, I think he did it in this timeline as well. He knew that the couple in LA wouldn’t be able to adopt Claires baby but he sent her anyway because he knew that this event would lead up to Claire having a bond with her baby.

Kate ended up taking Claire to the hospital because she was having contractions, and during her time there she called her baby Aaron. She also chose not to have her baby there and then because she wasn’t ready yet. This mirrored what she told Kate on the island in the original timeline when she went into labour.

We also saw Ethan at the hospital. His surname in this timeline is Goodspeed instead of Rom. I guess this is because in this timeline his mother Amy left with him in 1977 when the island was evacuated. With no island to go back to Ethan was brought up by his mother, Amy Goodspeed. In the original timeline, Ethan seemed to be with The Others from an early age so he was probably taken as a child or he chose to go with The Others, and would’ve taken on someone elses surname.

Much like the original timeline, Ethan took care of Claire and her baby.

It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the Flight 815 passengers lives turn out and how they interact with each other, and see how the similarities are to the events that happened on the island.

I have only seen the episode once but the first thing that springs to mind when summing up LA X is Wow. Just Wow. I’m sure Darlton have a checklist for the perfect Season opener which they adhere to with each season. A bunch of new questions – check. A bunch of new mysterious characters – check. Confusion, Unpredictability, Crazyness – check, check, check. But I wouldn’t have it any other way – Oh how I’ve missed you, LOST.

Sooo, without further adieu – let’s get to it!

The New Story Arc

Alot of Lost fans had theorized over the many possibilities this season could’ve taken after the H-Bomb blew up. Some where on the Whatever Happened, Happened side, while others maintained a strong belief that everything that had happened in 2004 wouldn’t happen, that Oceanic 815 wouldn’t crash and it would create an Alternate Timeline. From all the theories I’d read about these two scenario’s I don’t recall reading one that said it would intertwine the two.

Even though there seems to be an Alternate Timeline this season, they’ve handled it in a way that Whatever Happened did Happen. It’s the perfect solution to such a complex story. Jack, Kate et al flashed to 2007 on the island and it keeps in sync with Whatever Happened, Happened. If they hadn’t, and the new Alternate Timeline had still played out, it would be impossible for them to have ever been in 1977 to cause The Incident. At least this way, the original timeline is playing out the way it should, and The Incident causes an Alternate Timeline in the process without causing it to be an impossibility… (well, as impossible as anything in LOST).

The “Flash Sideways” – Desmond and Changes

So, with the Alternate Timeline there are some similarities to the original flight, and some real differences. One of the major differences is Desmond being on the plane. Obviously, in the original timeline Desmond arrived on the island in 2001 and spent 3 years of his life pushing the button to save the world until September 22nd 2004 when he failed to push the button in time causing Oceanic 815 to crash. In this timeline, there could be very many reasons why Desmond didn’t end up doing that, but the main reason is probably because The Swan was never built.

We delve further into Desmonds new life and hazard a guess that he did the race around the world and completed it without his island detour, or perhaps he didn’t even meet Penelope who the race around the world was in aid of. Further still, Charles Widmore, Eloise and Father Campbell were great influences in Desmonds life and it was his time spent at the monastry that led him to meet Penelope. If Eloise and Charles didn’t survive the H-Bomb then they wouldn’t have been alive to interfere. Desmond now has free will.

The interesting thing about Desmond in this episode though, was his dissapearing act after Jack had saved Charlie. We all know in the original timeline Desmond had visions of Charlie dieing and attempted to save his life a number of times until he realised that Course Correction was going to kick his ass.

So there was Charlie, at the brink of death, and Jack saves him. Ironically, Charlie tells Jack that he was supposed to die. Obviously, a statement like that was there as a reminder that even though they didn’t crash, Course Correction is still going to find a way to kill Charlie. Perhaps, he was supposed to die in the original crash. The number of times Charlie had come close to dieing even before Desmond started saving him suggests that he was supposed to die in the original crash. Course Correction caught up with him then, and it probably will in this new Alternate Timeline.

Anyway… Desmond. Where did he dissapear to after Jack saved Charlies life? Is it insignificant? Did he just go to the loo? Was he there to see that Charlie dies? In the original timeline he was trying to save Charlies life – in this timeline does he have some foresight or knowledge about events that have happened/should have happened, and is there to see that these things come to fruition? As Daniel Faraday once said, Desmond is special. As Eloise once said, The Island isn’t done with him yet.

There is something going on with him, and I can’t wait to find out what.

I could talk about Desmond all day, but let’s carry with some more ch-ch-changes.

BOONE: So what were you doing in Australia? Business or pleasure?
LOCKE: Pleasure. You?
BOONE: I went down to get my sister out of a bad relationship that it turns out she didn’t want to get out of. So… here I am.

Some other changes in the Alternate Timeline is the fact that Shannon didn’t come back to LA with Boone. The situation as to why Boone was in Australia seems to be similar, but for some reason Shannon decided to stay in Sydney. Perhaps in this Alternate Timeline, Jack decided to save Shannon’s father instead of Sarah when they had that car crash. If Shannon’s father is still alive she probably didn’t have many money worries and an evil Step mother to contend with. She wouldn’t have had to use men to con Boone out of money. She may have had trouble in Sydney, but I doubt the situation was exactly the same, which is probably why she wasn’t on the plane. I wonder if, among the countless other questions that need answering, we’ll find out why she wasn’t on the plane.

This leads us to Jack. Jack seems to recognise Desmond from somewhere but can’t quite place him. Some would say he recognises him from the stadium when they “ran” into each other, but if Jack had decided to save Shannon’s father instead of Sarah, then Jack wouldn’t have been so wound up about “fixing” Sarah and wouldn’t have gone to the stadium to work off the stress. Furthurmore, if Desmond hadn’t met Penelope he wouldn’t have entered the race around the world, therefore his training at the stadium wouldn’t have happened either. Neither of them would have ever met before. So why does Jack seem to recognise him?

There’s more to Jack

Jack seems to have a cut on his neck which coincides with an injury he suffered in The Incident. Is this a sign that the two timelines will eventually become one? Will Jack realise that there’s another timeline and remember everything that has happened? I think that perhaps he will take on a similar role to Locke this season with regards to bringing people back to the island. Last season, Locke attempted to bring everyone back to the island, so this season Jack will. Perhaps Jack is the only one who will remember and so will appear crazy to the likes of Kate and Sawyer, as did Locke to them over the last few seasons. Perhaps, even Locke will find it hard to believe and become a character similar to how Jack was, failing to believe in Destiny.

JACK: Mind if I ask what happened to ya? [Locke is silent] I’m sorry, I’m only asking because I’m a spinal surgeon, I didn’t mean to…
LOCKE: Oh, no, don’t worry about it – uh, uh surgery isn’t gonna do anything to help me, my condition is irreversible.
JACK: Nothing is irreversible.

It’s funny how Jack, in the original timeline, had a hate for Locke, yet in this Alternate Timeline Jack gave Locke his business card and offered to try and fix him. Ok, they’ve only just met and Locke hasn’t given Jack much reason to hate him, but I found it quite nice that without the island, Jack and Locke could perhaps be friends.

I think this also confirms that Locke may just be a special person afterall. I believe this because Jack wanted to help him. It reflects how Ben wanted Jack to want to do surgery on him, but was coerced into doing so. Whereas, with Locke, Jack does want to help him, no questions asked. Locke is indeed more significant than Ben will ever be, and I think Jacks choice to want to fix him, confirms it.

Will he fix Locke? Will Locke come back to the island and take on Flocke? It’s definately a possibility.

Locke and his Walkabout

On the plane, Locke told Boone about the Walkabout he’d been on in Australia. It seemed that Locke wasn’t paralysed, until the plane landed and the air crew arrived with a wheel chair. Did he still get pushed out the window by his father? Or was he telling Boone the truth, and he had an accident in the Walkabout. Given the date of the journey, I think Locke lied to Boone as he pretty much took Oceanic 815 within a few days of him being rejected by the people who run the Walkabout. So why did he lie to Boone? Was it simply because he didn’t want to talk about it?

Jin and Sun

In the original timeline Sun almost left Jin at Sydney Airport because their marriage was on the rocks, but she changed her mind at the last minute as he showed Sun that perhaps there was still a little romance there. Are the circumstances for them being on the plane this time around the same? Jin still seems to be the angry man who tells his wife to button her top up. Did they even tie the knot in this Alternate Timeline? (EDIT: After watching it for a second time it appears that the woman at the airport calls Sun Miss Paik, instead of Ms Kwon. This suggests the Jin and Sun aren’t married in this Alternate Timeline) Does Sun even speak English in this Alternate Timeline? Her interactions with the airport staff seem to suggest that, but perhaps she was lieing so that Jin wouldn’t know that she’d learned how to speak English, much like she did in the original timeline. I think we need more info on these two “lovebirds” before coming to a conclusion on this.

Hurley and his Good Luck

HURLEY: Nope. Nothing bad ever happens to me. I’m the luckiest guy alive.

So, Hurley still wins the lottery but instead of finding himself cursed, he now has the best luck in the world. Did he use the same numbers? If, in 1977, The Incident caused the island to sink, then there’d be no transmission of the numbers. This means that crazy Leonard wouldn’t have been repeating those numbers over and over again. In fact, he probably wasn’t in the mental institute in the first place. Who knows, perhaps Hurley wasn’t there either. So which numbers did he use? Would he have used the same numbers? Or did he use different numbers, and because of that ended up with good luck rather than bad luck.

Sawyer the Con Man

SAWYER: You know, you really shouldn’t tell people you won the lottery.
HURLEY: Yeah? Why not?
SAWYER: Cause they’ll take advantage of you. That’s why not.

I’m pretty sure Sawyer is still the conman we see in the original timeline. His dad killed his mother and himself before 1977 / The Incident, so it seems clear that Sawyer has grown up exactly the same. I’m going to hazard a guess that he’s going to try and con Hurley out of his millions, perhaps with the help of on-the-run Kate? They seemed to have a connection in the airport so perhaps their paths will cross again.

Annnd now for the Original Timeline Events

Where to begin? So many things happened on the island in this episode. Juliet was alive, but then she died. Sayid died but then came back to life. Turns out Flocke is the smoke monster (who saw that one coming? ;) ). Oh, and Sawyer gave Jack a good punch. Again.

Let’s start with Juliet

First of all, she should never have survived that fall. Second of all, she should never have survived being so close to a H-Bomb blast. Nevertheless, she did, and she had some very interesting information to give to Sawyer. Unfortunately she died before getting the chance to tell him what was so important.

Never fear though, as Ghostbusting Miles is on the case and he finds out what it was Juliet had to tell Sawyer. “It worked”. Sawyer may not know what she meant, but I’m pretty sure she knew that there is now an Alternate Timeline. Before dieing in Sawyers arms she seemed to drift a million miles away, saying that she and Sawyer should go grab a coffee sometime. Perhaps, Juliet merged slightly with the Alternate Timeline for a couple of seconds and realised that detonating the H-Bomb had worked. It’ll be interesting to see how everyone reacts when they realise the true meaning of Juliet’s “It worked”.

Jacob… Sayid?

So, Jacob is 100% dead. After “dead Jacob” visited Hurley instructing him what to do they took Sayid to the temple. The people at the temple weren’t very welcoming until Hurley told them that Jacob had sent them. As proof, Hurley gave them the guitar case that Jacob had given him the day before Flight 316. In the guitar case was an Ankh, which inside contained a piece of paper with a list of names on it. More importantly, it was the names of our Losties who had just arrived at the temple. Whats more, apparantly the peice of paper claimed that if they didn’t save Sayid, they will all be in trouble.

I guess the first question should be: How did Jacob know who would be there and that Sayid would be injured? Of course, this isn’t the first time that Jacob has shown that he knows certain things. A prime example would be when Locke fell out of the window: Jacob was sat there seemingly waiting for it to happen. It seems obvious he has knowledge of the future, but how? And if he knew he was going to die, why didn’t he try and stop it from happening? He has always been one for Free Will (he tells Ben he has a choice when deciding whether or not to kill him), so why not use that Free Will to avoid it? Or is it a simple case of Course Correction, and no matter what he does he will always end up dead?

That being said, Sayid was placed in what seems to be a “Healing Pool”. Apparantly the water is always clear, but on this day it wasn’t. Was that because Jacob had died? Anyway, regardless of the state of the water, they placed Sayid in it to try and save him. Unfortunately this didn’t seem to work, and was declared dead. A while later however, Sayid wakes up, much to the shock of Jack, Hurley etc. and to the men at the Temple.

Should this have happened? The men at the Temple seemed shocked as if it shouldn’t have happened, even though they had put him in the pool to save him. Did the peice of paper really say that they needed to save Sayid? Or did it instruct them to make sure he died? This would explain why they placed him in the pool regardless of its state, and that they didn’t let him come up for air when he was struggling. Are they in shock because they will all be in trouble if he’s alive?

Another point to mention is what Miles said when Hurley asked him what’s wrong. At the time Miles was in close proximity with Sayid’s body, and he says “Nothing” as if he’s reading nothing from Sayid. We all know Miles can her the last thoughts of the dead, but when he says “Nothing” he actually looks spooked as if he can’t quite read anything from Sayid.

Is Sayid now Jacob? Or is Sayid the Sayid from the Alternate Timeline? I guess we’ll have to wait and see until the next episode. Although, in true Lost fashion, we may not even see anything of the Temple in the next episode, and they’ll keep us in suspense.

The Whispers

Just before Jack got attacked by the people at the Temple the whispers were heard. I think we can assume that the whispers belong to these people and always have. They seem to appear out of nowhere, and so they can probably dissapear just as quickly.

Flocke is Smokey!

BEN: What are you?
LOCKE: Wh.. I’m not a what Ben, I’m a who.
BEN: You’re the monster.
LOCKE: Let’s not resort to name calling.

It was the thought of most of us Lost Theorists since the last season and I’m so glad it was confirmed in the first episode of Season Six. Perhaps there won’t be anymore “Smokey is…” theories now ;) So, Flocke (I’m going to keep calling him that for now as his name still hasn’t been revealed) wants the exact opposite of what Locke wanted: he wants to go home.

Is his home the Temple? Or is his home somewhere off island, in alternate universe, on another planet? I guess it’s too early to try and figure this one out.

When Bram and co. went into the Temple, Bram used some ash to protect himself from Smokey. This is the same ash that surround the cabin. The question is: where they trying to keep Smokey trapped in the cabin, or where they trying to protect Jacob by keeping Smokey out?

Richard and his chains

RICHARD: Don’t shoot him! Don’t shoot him!
[Flocke walks up to Richard]
FLOCKE: Hello Richard. It’s good to see you outta those chains.
RICHARD: [eyes widen] … you?
FLOCKE: Me.

When the people at the Temple set off the signal into the sky, Richard immediately had a look of fear. Yes, he knew that the John Locke inside the statue isn’t the same John Locke he made leader 3 years earlier, but before the signal went off he didn’t know that Jacob was dead. This signal was to signify that Jacob was dead and that they are all now in grave danger. Richard realised who Flocke was and looked terrified. Flocke knocked him out and carried him into the jungle. What are Flocke’s plans for Richard? Does Richard know how to get Flocke home? What did he mean when he told Richard he was glad to see him out of those chains?

Wow, I’ve really neglected this site since Season 5. It was my intention to review Seasons 2 & 3 during the break but things kept me major busy in the “real” world. I’d neglected it so much that I actually let the domain expire (by accident of course!). Luckily it only expired a few days ago so I was able to renew it again just in time for the start of Season 6.

Those of you who follow this blog (if any ;) ) will know that I’m in the UK so I haven’t actually seen the first episode of Season 6 yet – I have to wait until Friday!

I shall be doing my reviews as usual though, so please be sure to check back sometime after Friday :)

Character Episode: Hurley

Quick Recap on Flashback:

Hurley is watching the lottery results on the television to which he has a winning ticket. He faints with the shock of winning, and when his mum sees to him he hides the fact that he’s won the lottery and tells her it must’ve been something he ate. Hurleys mum tells him he needs to change his lifestyle, but Hurley likes his life the way it is.

Despite winning the lottery, Hurley still goes to work, but he is called in to the managers office by a guy called Randy, and given a telling off for eating pieces of chicken while working. His manager is going on and on to Hurley and in the end Hurley quits his job.

Outside, Hurleys work friend, Johnny, joins him near his car to see if he is ok. Johnny reveals that he has quit too and they both set off to enjoy a fun day together.

They go to a record store where they both listen to You All Everybody by Driveshaft. Afterwards Hurley goes to speak with a girl at the counter who he seems to have a crush on. He asks her out on a date and she agrees. Johnny seems suspicious of Hurley’s new behaviour and asks him what’s going on. Hurley says he just wanted to ask her out before… but he didn’t finish his sentence.

Later, they steal garden gnomes from someones garden and use them to spell out the words “Cluck You” in Randy’s front garden. When they drive away Hurley makes Johnny promise him that no matter what happens in the future, that they’ll always stay the same.

They drive past a store and Johnny notices a news crew outside. Hurley is hesitant to see what’s going on as he knows it has something to do with him winning the lottery, but Johnny wants to find out what’s going on. He finds out that someone won the lottery and when the store owner spots Hurley he tells everyone that he’s the one who won. Johnny looks on at Hurley with what looks to be dissapointment.

Quick Recap on Island:

Hurley is asleep in the Hatch and has a dream about eating lots of the food that’s in the store room. He drinks from a carton of milk that has a Missing Person printed on it (the missing person is Walt), and then he sees Jin. Jin speaks to him in English but when Hurley questions him, Jin remarks that Hurley is actually speaking in Korean. Mr Cluck then appears next to Jin, and Jin tells Hurley that everything is going to change, and to have a cluckity-cluck-cluck day.

Kate wakes up Hurley when the beeping noise is going off in the Hatch. He is on Pushing-the-button duty although he doesn’t seem so enthusiastic about it.

On the other side of the island, Mr Eko and Ana Lucia let Jin and Michael out of the pit. Sawyer tries to pursuade them not to go which in return earns him more time in the pit.

Back on the beach Charlie is asking Hurley what is in the Hatch. Hurley seems reluctant to tell Charlie anything about it and in the end Charlie walks off in a huff.

Hurley speaks with Rose who isn’t really interested in what is in the Hatch. When Rose points out that whatever is down there won’t help her get her laundry then, Hurley is quick to correct her. He takes her to see what’s in the Hatch and asks her for help in a job he’s been tasked with by Jack.

On the beach, Claire finds the bottle of messages that Sawyer and co. took with them on the raft.

Jack had asked Hurley to inventory all the food and toiletries in the store room and work out how to make it last, and to not let anyone take anything until it’s done. Hurley tells Rose that everyone will end up hating him because of it, and then Kate comes in to take a bottle of shampoo which, according to Hurley, is when it all starts.

Out in the jungle, Charlie has been following Locke for a while, and when Locke calls him out Charlie asks him to tell him what’s going on down at the Hatch.

At the Hatch Sayid and Jack are looking at the wall and Jack shows him the effect the wall has on his key that’s hanging round his neck. Sayid pulls up a grate in the floor and suggests they go under it to investigate.

Out in the jungle Mr Eko lets Sawyer out of the pit and it seems they believe that they were on the plane as well. Ana Lucia gives Sawyer some attitude and makes it clear that she is in charge. She tells everyone they’re moving out as it’s getting dark.

Locke has finished telling Charlie all about the Hatch and about how Desmond was down there pushing a button every 108 minutes. Charlie asks what Hurley has been doing down there, and Locke tells him he’s in charge of the food.

Later, Charlie catches up with Hurley and asks him if there are any jars of peanut butter down at the Hatch. Hurley says there are but refuses to give Charlie a jar. Charlie walks of in disgust and tells Hurley he has changed.

Underneath the Hatch Sayid and Jack discover that whoever built it poured a load of concrete under it. Sayid comments that the last time he heard of concrete being poured over everything in that way was Chernobyl.

On the other side of the island while walking Michael speaks to Libby and asks her how many of them survived from the tail section. She tells them that there were 23 survivors. Eventually they come to another Dharma station where they’ve been living and Ana Lucia knocks on the door in a secretive way. Bernard opens the door and when they arrive inside they see there aren’t that many people left from the 23 who survived.

Later, Claire and Shannon go to speak with Sun and they tell her about the bottle of messages. They give Sun the bottle and tell her they thought it best if she decided what to do about it.

Hurley speaks with Locke and tells him he doesn’t want to be in charge of the food, but Locke doesn’t allow him to quit. Hurley walks off and finds the dynamite they used to blow the Hatch up in the first place. He takes it to the Hatch and sets it up to blow up the store room. Rose finds him and he explains to her that everybody will end up hating him because he gets to decide who gets what.

Later, Hurley speaks to Jack and tells him the inventory’s done and says there’s only enough food to feed 1 person for 3 months. With 40 people Hurley decides to give out all the food and lets people have a choice in what they get. He also gives Charlie a jar of peanut butter to give to Claire.

At the other Dharma station where Michael, Sawyer and Jin are, Bernard introduces himself to them and asks if there’s a lady in their camp called Rose. Sawyer tells him that there is and that she’s ok, and Bernard tells him that he’s her husband.

Things to note

The milk carton with Walt’s photograph and missing person report on it appeared in Hurley’s dream. At the time Walt was missing after being taken by The Others on the raft, but Hurley didn’t know about it. This was one of those very special Easter Eggs the Lost creators like to throw in. Did you catch it first time round?

The concrete that was poured underneath the Hatch was probably poured there after the incident to cover the magnetic pull.

Randy, the manager of Mr Clucks, is the same Randy who worked above Locke at the Box Company.

Character Episode: Locke

Quick Recap on Flashback:
Locke is at a therapy group and gets angry with a girl there who seems upset about someone stealing $30 from her. He tells everyone his story about Anthony Cooper conning him for his kidney which seems to make everyone elses problems seem tedious in comparison. After the meeting he gets talking to a lady called Helen and they seem to hit it off immediately.

During the beginning of their relationship Locke begins sneaking out of Helens house in the middle of the night. He tells her he has trouble sleeping in a strange bed. What he’s really doing, however, is driving to Anthony Coopers house and sitting outside in his car.

This particular time, Anthony comes out of the house and gets into Lockes car. He tells him that he thought Lockes visits were funny at first, but now they’re just annoying. He is horrible to Locke and tells him to get over it. Locke is understandably upset.

After 6 months of being together Helen gives Locke a key to her place but tells him that he must stop visiting Anthony’s house. Helen had followed him the night before and the news startles Locke but he tells her he’ll stop.

A few weeks later Locke leaves Helens place in the middle of the night and parks outside Anthony Coopers house. A car bumps into the back of his while he’s parked which turns out to be Helen. She grabs Lockes car key out of the ignition and throws it over the gate. Helen tells Locke that he’s scared of moving forward but he needs to take a leap of faith. Locke seems to accept this and decides to take Helens help.

Quick Recap on Island:
Micheal and Sawyer are knocked out by Mr Eko and are dragged into the middle of the jungle and dumped into a pit. Michael asks them where Walt is but receives no response.

At The Hatch the confrontation between Desmond, Jack and Locke escalates but Kate has managed to lower herself from a vent to get behind Desmond and knock him down. While he falls he shoots his weapon and it hits the computer breaking it. Desmond panics and starts looking for some components to fix the computer. Locke tells Kate to find Sayid as he will probably be able to help.

When Kate leaves Jack grabs the components and asks Desmond to explain exactly what is going on and how he got there. Desmond explains that 3 years earlier he was on a race around the world on a sail boat which crashed on the island. A guy called Kelvin grabbed him and dragged him to The Hatch and as soon as they got there Kelvin entered the numbers and pushed the button. Kelvin had said they were doing it to save the world. Desmond explains that Kelvin died and that he has been pushing the button ever since.

Jack is annoyed with the explaination and is angry with Locke who seems to believe it. Desmond tells them that there is a film which explains it. They decide to take a look at it.

In the pit Michael and Sawyer are asking Jin questions about “The Others”. Because Jin can’t speak English he was left making hand gestures to describe what happened to him. Michael makes out that Jin was blindfolded. Saywer gets Michael and Jin to push him up so he can see what’s going on, but as they do so the pit cover opens and a woman is pushed in. It’s Ana Lucia.

At The Hatch Jack and Locke begin watching the film. It is a Dharma Initiative Orientation video explaining what to do in The Hatch, or The Swan as it is called. The film features a man who introduces himself as Marvin Candle and he explains what The Swan is for and speaks of an Incident. Parts of the film are missing so some of it is incoherent. After watching it Locke muses that they will have to watch that again, while Jack walks away.

At the pit Ana Lucia speaks with Sawyer and co. and they tell her they are survivors of a plane crash. She seems surprised and asks them if it was Flight 815. Sawyer and co. realise that she was also on the plane. Michael asks her if she’s seen Walt, but she says she hasn’t. Sawyer shows her his gun and tells her the next time they open the pit they’re going to get a surprise.

Back at The Swan, Jack starts asking Desmond questions again and tries to pursuade him that the whole thing isn’t real. Desmond tells Jack that every single day he wonders whether it is real or not, but pushes the button regardless.

Desmond has finished trying to fix the computer and when he turns it on the power goes out. Desmond tells them that it’s over and grabs some medication and other things and leaves The Swan. Jack goes after him leaving a confused Locke on his own. He gets angry and shouts out “what am I supposed to do?!”.

Later, Kate arrives with Sayid and Hurley. Locke asks Sayid for his help in fixing the computer, so Sayid gets Hurley and Kate to look for a breaker box to turn the electric back on.

At the pit Sawyer discusses his plan of action when Ana Lucia begins questioning him about the gun. He explains that there was a marshall on the plane. She doesn’t seem to believe him and out of the blue she elbows Sawyer in the face, gets the gun, and shouts to Mr Eko “coming out!”. He throws down a rope for her and he pulls her up.

In the jungle Jack has caught up with Desmond. Desmond remembers that he forgot to tell him the numbers to enter into the computer so he lets Jack know what they are. Jack isn’t interested in the numbers and tells Desmond he doesn’t know what he’s running from. This triggers Desmonds memory and he remembers his meeting with Jack in LA. When Desmond asks about Sarah Jack gets upset and tells Desmond that he married her. Desmond is sympathetic, and tells Jack he’ll see him in another life, before running off into the jungle again.

At the Swan, Kate finds the breaker box and Sayid is able to fix the computer. Locke tries to remember the code and when he starts saying the numbers Hurley starts to worry, but when Locke says the wrong number Hurley is quite happy to let him carry on. That is, until Jack returns and corrects Locke.

Locke tells Jack to press the execute button but Jack is reluctant that he won’t. Locke tells him he needs to take a leap of faith, and when the timer nearly hits zero Jack gives in and pushes the button. Locke says he’ll take the first shift.

Things to note

We now know that Dr Marvin Candle’s real name is Dr Pierre Chang and is the father of Miles Straum (who makes his first appearence in Season 4). Dr Pierre Chang was around in the 70s and was acquainted with Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Hurley, Miles and Juliet (who his introduced in Season 3) during their time travels in Season 5. He mentions The Incident in The Swan Orientation video which we now know was caused by the H-Bomb which Jack threw down the hole, and which Juliet detonated.

When Desmond speaks with Jack about The Swan having electromagnetism properties, he tells Jack that every time he walks past the wall his fillings hurt. In Season 5 we see one of the Dharma Initiative die whilst working on The Swan station by one of his fillings being pulled through his brain.

During his time alone in The Swan Locke gets angry and starts shouting, and seems to question somebody or something about what he’s supposed to do. We all know Locke has a special connection with the Island and at the time it seemed he was asking the Island what he’s supposed to do, but after Season 5 I can’t help but wonder if Locke had somehow come accross Jacobs other half previous to this scene and had been told he’s special and has a great purpose on the island.
