Roadtrip Woche #1

Es wird mal wieder Zeit für ein paar Zeilen aus Australien, genauer gesagt von der Veranda des yha Hostels in Noosa, vor dem wir die heutige Nacht in unserem Mietcamper verbringen werden, wild Campen ist innerorts doch stressiger, Stichwort Ranger und damit verbubdenes früh aufstehen.

Letzte Woche Montag ging es in zwei gemieteten Vans mit insgesamt neun Leuten im Sydney los. Die letzte Woche habe ich die Blue Mountains ein zweites mal gesehen, bin mit quasi heißer Luft im Tank nachts in Port Macquarie eingetroffen, in Coffs einen Spot zum Campen gesucht, in Nimbin die Hauptstraße entlang gegangen und versucht den Sonnenaufgang am Byron Lighthouse zu sehen.

Leider gab es auch viel Regen, welcher uns in den folgenden Tagen nach Tamborin Mountain und Brisbane folgte.
Heute dafür wieder Traumwetter!

Harbour Bridge

Einige Tage spaeter als urspruenglich geplant ging es fuer mich per Zug vom Vorort Penrith zur Central Station Sydney und von dort weiter ins Nomad's Backpackers. Schlappe 30$ die Nacht im 4er Zimmer, dafuer free Pasta (also einfach Pesto im Supermarkt geholt und gut).
Gerade angekommen, werfe ich nur meine Sachen in die Ecke und gehe los zur Opera Hall, dabei wird schnell klar, dass zentrale Lage relativ ist, der Weg vom Circuar Quay zum Hostel dauert ca. 25 Minuten, ich werde ihn die naechsten Tage noch einige Male gehen.

Tag 2 verbringe ich in den Royal Botanic Gardens und treffe mich mit einem Englaender, welcher als Barkeeper ein halbes Jahr in Sydney gearbeitet hat, es folgt eine kurze Tour durch ein paar seiner Lieblingskneipen.
Waehrend meines weiteren Aufenthaltes besichtige ich noch Darling Harbour, welches sehr ueberfuellt ist, gehe weder in das Aquarium oder den Zoo, weil das Wetter so verdammt gut ist und kriege von meinen Zimmergenossen einen Cidre in Magharitaville (so eine Franchisebar aus den USA von einem Saenger) ausgegeben, ich treffe mich mit einer Mitfahrgelegenheit, welche auch die Kueste hoch wollen und werde dann von Boris mit Insassen abgeholt, es geht zwei Tage surfen und campen!

Den ersten Abend geht es nach Manly, den Locals-Strand, auch per Faehre erreichbar, die Wellen sind netterweise auf meinem Niveau. Abendessen gibt es in einer Bar, in der Freitags die Pizzen auf 5 Dollar reduziert sind, regulaer zwischen 18 und 20 Dollar!!!! Danach nochmal Strand und Wellen gucken, bei Vollmond.

Naechster Tag Bondi, 5,80$ die Stunde parken, showing-off pur, Millionen Surfer im Wasser, nix zu holen fuer mich, aber ein Haken mehr auf der Checklist... (leider keine Beach Fotos, aber da werde ich noch welche nachreichen!)
Dann wieder auf die Farm, bisschen packen und Klamotten waschen.

Heute morgen habe ich dann kurz mit der 2maligen World Championess im Kayak Freestyle Claire O'Hara geplaudert, ich wusste bis jetzt nicht, dass Kayaks Backflips koennen!

Blue Mountains Nationalpark

Füße hoch ist jetzt die Ansage, dazu ein Rivet, ein Bier aus dem ansässigen Aldi Süd, hergestellt in Vietnam. Da soll nochmal einer sagen, Globalisierung funktioniert nicht.
Hinter mir liegt ein ca. 3 stündiger Bushwalk durch den Blue Mountains Nationalpark, in der Sonne angenehm warm, im Schatten schon fast etwas kühl, aber ein einzigartiges Panorama entschädigt für so einiges. Habe mich extrem zurück gehalten, trotzdem knapp hundert Fotos gemacht, Anfahrt in Boris, dem zum Womo umgebauten 83er Toyota HiAce von L. und seiner Freundin. (Foto folgt)

Anschliessend noch die Mall von Penrith unsicher gemacht und wieder den Kühlschrank bei Aldi aufgefüllt.

Ob ich wieder einen Marokko ähnlichen Film mache, muss ich nochmal gucken, bis jetzt habe ich noch nichts in die Richtung aufgenommen.

Die weitere Planung sieht nun erstmal das Verlassen der Base, des guesthouse auf der Milchfarm (hier gibt es noch einen Schrottplatz, den ich morgen mal mit Kamera erkunden wollte) und ein Weiterziehen nach Sydney vor, mal sehen was der immer noch anhaltende Jetlag so sagt, heute scheine ich ja mal die 24 Uhr zu packen ohne vorher weg zu knacken.
Ich bereue es bereits jetzt, lediglich mein Nexus 7 mitgenommen zu haben, statt eines "richtigen" Laptops, aber das wird auch ohne klappen! Nun kurz ein-zwei unbearbeitete Bilder:

Touchdown in Sydney

Finally, nachdem am Donnerstag um 19 in Fuhlsbüttel Abflug war, bin ich nun vor knapp 29 Stunden in Sydney gelandet. Dazwischen lagen mehr oder weniger lange Aufenthalte an den Gates in eben Hamburg, London und Dubai.
Mein Handgepäck wurde dreimal gescannt und zweimal von Hand durchsucht, bei eigentlich nur zwei Flügen schon eine Hausnummer, die Nadel, die sich versehentlich eingeschlichen hatte, wurde ein Glück nicht gefunden...

Dafür bin ich jetzt auch endlich mal in einem A380 geflogen, jeder Sitz mit Touchscreen und in der Videothek gaben sich Django, Simpsons und The Hurt Locker die Klinke in die Hand. Zwischendurch Start und Landung mit der Heck Kamera verfolgt. Als Ingenieur ist mir natürlich auch der massenhafte Einsatz von CFK an den Sitzen nicht verborgen geblieben. Insgesamt sind in Höllenmaschine, die ein Glück nur ein Drittel ausgebucht war.

Nach Abholung durch zwei Freunde gab es zwei kalte Bier zum Frühstück und beim Schreiben dieser Zeilen stellt sich eigentlich nur die Frage, Jetlag durchhalten oder kurz schlafen...

The mascot fell over. It took some time until he was able to stand up again. I think the guy had to stand up inside the costume first and then put it back on while jumping .. or so..

The Shoemaker

The Shoemaker erzählt die Geschichte von Frank Catalfumo, einem 91-jährigen ~~Schuhmacher~~ Schuster aus Brooklyn. Catafulmo ist Weltkriegsvetaran und hält zusammen mit seinem Sohn den Laden am Laufen, das ganze in einem Viertel, welches er nicht wieder erkennt, "two different worlds".

3D Printed Guns (Documentary)

3D Printed Guns ist ein sehr interessantes, wie auch erschreckendes Videos. Es geht um grob gesagt um Amis und Waffen, ein Thema welches immer eine vorgefertigte Meinung in Richtung "Die spinnen doch" bei mir produziert.
Hier ist das ganze jedoch anders gelagert, in der Mitte dieser VICE-Doku steht Cody Wilson, seines Zeichens Techno-Anarchist, der Waffen aus dem 3D-Drucker produziert. Genauer gesagt den sogennanten Lower Receiver einer AR15, das Teil was alles zusammen hält und was brisanterweise auch das einzige mit einer Seriennummer ist, alle anderen Teile kriegt man bei diesem modularen Gewehr über das Internet, der Weg zu einer selbstgedruckten, unregistrierten Waffe wird also relativ kurz, das ganze mit einer Technik über die ich vor einer Woche eine mündliche Prüfung hatte, verrückt...
Wilson hat die Vision, seine Baupläne öffentlich zu machen und damit zu zeigen, dass Verbote von Waffen bzw. Waffengesetze sinnlos sind. ~~Eventuell ist er aber auch nur auf der Suche nach Aufmerksamkeit.~~

Sein nächstes Projekt sind Magazine mit hoher Kapazität, eigentlich auch banned, wenn ich richtig informiert bin, in Wilsons Kopf aber nur eine Box aus Plastik und eine Feder.

Inzwischen hält der gedruckte Receiver 600 Kugeln aus, Wilson Hat eine Lizenz zur Waffenproduktion und Verkauf (was er nicht tut) und es gibt kein Gesetz, was es verbieten würde, dass ich mir einen Lower Receiver mit seinen Plänen drucke und mir eine nahezu vollwertige AR15 zusammen schraube.

Ein Road Trip von Sydney bis nach Snapper Rocks, also einmal die Ostküste Australiens entlang, die sogenannte Gold Coast. Für Surfer wegen der unberührten Spots, für Fotografen wegen des außergewöhnlichen Wildlifes. Werde ich mir wohl in einem Monat auch mal genauer angucken…

Biting Elbows - 'Bad Motherfucker' (Insane Office Escape 2)

Nachdem ich mich die letzten Wochen etwas bei tumblr ausgetobt habe, habe ich festgestellt, dass mir das Korsett doch etwas zu starr ist.

Deshalb werde ich nun wieder hier meinen Blödsinn Posten, aber in den nächsten Tagen werde ich wohl nochmal das Design ändern, ich habe mich doch irgendwie satt gesehen!

Ein bis zwei Videos von meinem tumblr werde ich hier noch nachträglich zeigen, die sind es nämlich wert!

Das erste ist das legendäre Musikvideo von Biting Elbows. Was die Russen (?) hier in diesem Kurzfilm abfeuern schwankt zwischen extrem gut und krank-gut. Aus der Ego-Perspektive verfolgt man einen Ausbruch aus einem Büro, Matrix-Style, gefolgt von einer Leichen-auftürmenden Jagd nach einem Teleporter-device. Das ganze erinnert stark an der PC-Spiel Mirror’s Edge, auch hier kommen zahlreiche Parkours-Einlagen vor.

This short-film from Ilya Naishuller starts out pretty cool then goes flat-out bonkers. I can’t really think of a better way to describe it than what’s in the headline, but basically—if you’re into first-person running and combat, this is right up your alley.

Florida (2) - Miami Beach

The second part consisted of actual holiday time. At least for me :-)
That's why I took way less pictures as I usually do. Instead I enjoyed the sun, just wore shorts and took a towel, no money, no phone, no keys ... felt light and relaxed... awesome!

I was never taking as many taxis in my life before as I took in Miami. A bus ride was $2 and sharing a taxi was similar priced but you got where you wanted when you wanted it. So we took a taxi!

I was shooting a couple of photos while moving around and the guys started staring at me, so I went off... next time!

That's a beautiful shot! Everybody smiles, nice light in their faces... A .. what was it? Mexican? Spanish? something like that... a restaurant! Nice food!

A nice wooden walk at the shore. Green plants, blue see, clear sky! That's a relaxing walk!

Lots of funny activities around! We even saw five or six big yachts racing on the water being accompanied by a sideways moving helicopter. I think they shot a film scene or so! It was quite impressive..

I HOPE it was a scene of CSI Miami and one can see me sitting at the beach.. that would be freaking awesome!

Florida (1) - Miami Beach - Key West - Everglades

Happily I had the chance to escape the snowy coldness of the Canadian winter to get a grasp of the beauty of spring down in Florida. The two-week trip was split up into two parts. I spent the first half with three German friends: Phillipp, who is here in Canada and Gerrit and Daniel, who came all the way from Germany to spend some time in the United States and of course Canada.

So where did we go? The trip started in Waterloo, of course. Phil and I took the bus to Toronto and welcomed the other boys. At the end of the day we went to Buffalo by bus again to spent one night near the airport and already on the other side of the border.

After a short flight we arrived in West Palm Beach where we got our car for the trip. After another short drive we wanted to spent our first night in an apartment that we booked online. But when we arrived there, we had a bad surprise... there hasn't been cleaned for a WHILE!

Wtf is that on the fridge?!

Looks like a party bathroom.. but not like a rented apartment!

Disappointed and in fear to find nothing equally priced we immediately started searching for an alternative.

We had to go back to the hostel that rents these apartments to get our already payed money back, which luckily worked out fine.

We ended up in a DaysInn Hotel, which was just a very bit more expensive, but so much nicer. It turned out that we have spent every night in all the cities we have been to in a Days Inn.

There we are.. Phil getting a present from his girlfriend.. I guess :-D

That was not our hotel, but typical for the hotels in Miami Beach.

Of course we stopped to enjoy seeing the sea again.

And lying on a beach... what a feeling!

So there we are, cruising through the city. It was the busiest weekend of the year: Boat show!

Hundreds of yachts ...

and expensive cars everywhere.

The "buy a yacht, get a car for free"-kind of deals...

Driving through the night. And it still was so warm! Compared with Canada... really warm!

The next day it was turning a bit cloudy and rainy. But that did harm our mood at all! Happy faces everywhere! That's a bridge facing Miami Downtown from Miami Beach. We went all the way to Key West that day.

Some people buy shoes, some people buy boats off the shelf.. why not!?

High speeds, perpendicular to the boat in the curves.. nice ride!

I want to have such a boat...! Really fun to ride!

Hello baby crocodiles!

Next stop, Naples! The evening before we arrived there we asked in a hotel for empty rooms and we thought that there were enough so we can easily just arrive and book a room the same night. Unfortunately we were wrong, so we had to go to Fort Myer to find a place to sleep.

In the morning we went back to Naples and rented a boat.. which was a very(!) nice thing!

We took a 2 h ride to the area where the richest of the richest have their houses.. and yachts!

Having a big house.. and a boat that's larger than a house? .. Then you did something right in your life!

We even saw a dolphin.. but that was hard to shoot.... I mean..with a camera... of course!

In the evening we went to the beach to see the sun setting at the west side of Florida.. beautiful scenery!

The way back to Miami beach... almost looks like an African safari.

Back in Miami we spent another night in our beloved Days Inn. The next morning the boys left to go skiing in Mont Tremblant back in Canada. I spent onther four days in Miami beach with other exchange students

Vor Wochen bei Twitter gesehen, nun muss das Ding auch mal hier rein: Die Internetserie Haben wir noch Pepps. Worum es geht ist noch nicht komplett ersichtlich, so ein Strallo fährt nach Spanien und zieht sich dabei Paste von Marocs und benutzt häufig die Wörter "Üüüüübelst" und "vom allerfeinsten". Dabei: ein Franzose, "der spricht kein Deutsch, ist aber okay".
Ich lache über die Stumpfheit der Serie und finde es großartig! Hänge mal Folge 1 ran, danach sollte klar sein was einen erwartet, grandios! Bis jetzt gibt es 8 der 26 Folgen, also dran bleiben!

Triple feature Bali x Surfen

Wieder mal so ein potentieller Fernweh-Auslöser sind die beiden folgenden Tapes: Das erste zeigt Legende Kelly Slater auf nem kleinen Bali-Trip. Dass die Surfaufnahmen over the Top sind muss man wohl nicht mehr sagen, das Video beschränkt sich jedoch nicht nur auf diese sondern zeigt auch "drumrum". Soundtrack läuft auch mit Santigold - Fame.

Zweites Tape ist von den Boys von der großartigen Seite infinitylist.com, die sind auch auf Bali unterwegs, auch zum surfen und nehmen auch ganz schön dicke Brocken mit! Musik hier: The Finks - My Ambition.

Von den Machern vom hervorragenden Taste of Vietnam, The Perennial Plate, hier mal ein neues Video: A Day in India verrät im Namen doch schon einiges, es geht um Leben, Reisen und nicht zuletzt Essen in Indien, wieder wird ein mehrwöchiger Trip in ein paar Minuten gepresst.

WingSuit fällt ja auch eher so in die CrazyShit Kategorie. Die Serie Dreamlines mit Jokke Sommer geht nun mittlerweile in die vierte Runde und nimmt uns wieder mit zu diversen Spots in Frankreich und Schweiz.
Die Bilder sind immer noch einfach nur krass, wie eng die Jungs an Bäumen, Felskanten und zahlreichen anderen, harten Hindernissen vorbei rasen...
Der Soundtrack ist jetzt nicht so meins, aber man guckt es so weg!

One Car to Do It All

Hier mal wieder ganz großes Tennis aus der Petrolicious Reihe über einen Porsche RSR. Jack Olsen baut sich mit seiner Black Beauty ein Geschoss für die Strecke und den Weg dahin, das beste aus allen Welten und kombiniert dafür ganz schön was zusammen: Karosserie von 72, Motor von 95, sein persönlicher Frankenstein. Ein sehr hübscher Frankenstein!
Und seine Werkstatt sieht auch nach nem netten Plätzchen aus!

Jack built an enviable shop out of a suburban, two-car garage and worked on it until its engineering, design, and function matched that of the Black Beauty, a Porsche through and through.

Carbon Fiber - Inside Koenigsegg

Für normale Menschen eine etwas zähe Doku, für Ingenieure ein Materialporno: Christian Von Koenigsegg (Props für den Namen) gibt Einblick in die Kohlefaser-Fertigung bei Koenigsegg.
Es ist schon krass, was die alles aus CFK fertigen, nicht nur die Karosserie, auch Teile des Motors und noch vieles mehr. Alles mit prepregs und Aluformen, sollte das alles Handarbeit sein, erklärt das auch die Preise!

Einfach nur edel! In den weiteren Teilen wird die Triplex-Federung und der Paintjob erklärt, das gebe ich mir jetzt, insgesamt wird die Doku 9 Teile umfassen, welche alle bei Koenigsegg gedreht wurden. Koenigsegg gibt damit wohl das erste Mal Einblick in den Produktionsprozess.
Ich werde gleich mal ne Bewerbung rüber faxen...
