I am so excited to share that Shea and Lucas' wedding from June of 2008 was published in the current issue of Brides Colorado!! They were married in the Durango Colorado area and I will post more details soon! here are the pages published:

Hello!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!! and where have I been?????

Just so you know:

-I'm alive and well
-Business has been great and a blessing
-I have been busy with our new commercial studio in Downtown Denver (Golden Triangle..to be exact)
-The TUTU project was OUTSTANDING!!!
-Christmas, Halloween, My Birthday, Thanksgiving, New Years...um...what else? well, they were all STELLER!!
-I have been at the gym 5 days a week since August...yeah..no kidding!
-I have been hitting the slopes as much as humanly possible this season (still is not enough!)
-catching up on some Live music {actually saw about 12 shows since August, and long overdue}..
-Been to Vegas, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Vegas, Vegas, Vegas..did I mention I have been to Vegas
-I have been Published! {more on that soon}
-Love the Flowers from Delilah's of Denver in my studio!
......and soon...HOPEFULLY....I'll have some more photos posted, from the second half of last year..WOW!! I have been a bad blogger!!! and I'll do my best to update more often!

ALASKA

There's nothing like staring down the 'barrel of a CANON' ....lens that is. I leave for Alaska today and I rented this Canon EF 500 mm f/4L IS lens from the crew at Borrow Lenses out in California. They have been great so far!! I've rented a couple of lenses from them and they are always in great shape and great rental prices too...if you ever need anything check them out, tell them I sent ya! Hoping to catch some big brown Kodiak bears (from far away) and be nature girl for the week. This lens is seriously MASSIVE!!! I just got it this morning and the first words out of my mouth were :" HOLY Sh*t" :)

How about the 'CAMO' coverings :) well, I suppose in order to be one with nature, is to blend with nature ;) I'll hopefully have some amazing pics to post after my return...so just as an FYI, I will be out of town until Wednesday July 30th, and without EMAIL and most likely phone off and on.

I also will be shooting a wedding on Kodiak on Saturday, but for the first time in 4+ years, I'm going as a guest (with camera in tow, of course)..so stay tuned for some of those images too!!!

Stunning!!!!!! Maya and Jim are so cool it isn't even funny!! Their taste in music, fine art, wine, and month-long honeymoon choices are so beautiful!! Not to mention their amazing family and friends that surround their life!!! It was so fun to hang out with Maya and Jim for their rehearsal dinner and wedding over the 4th of July holiday!!! They are traveling Europe for a month right now, but here's a sneak peak into their beautiful day!!!!

the red barn| Engagement!

I love it when a client has a particular idea in mind and together we can create something so unique and one-of-a-kind!! Kristen and Preston called me asking if I happen to know of a 'red barn and a meadow in the mountains' where we could do their engagement photos. I was racking my brain as I could not think of one that was accessible! I called fellow photographers, asked friends and then it dawned on me!! DUH!!!!!!!! I live down the street from the most beautiful barn EVER!!! and it's RED!! The only problem is that it was private property and the family is very careful as to who they let onto their property. They have been approached for commercials, ads, and all sorts of prods to use their barn as a backdrop. They typically decline offers to use the barn, to keep it private and a sacred place for their family.

It just happened to be our lucky day, when a friend and I were talking about my search for a barn and he said..." hey, let me call my buddy down the street" and the rest is history! I guess sometimes it really IS who you know!! and also I like to think that we are gentle with the land and respect the earth and the neighbors that surround us. I think that the universe works in delightful ways and I feel so fortunate to not only be blessed to know two incredable people like Kristen and Preston but also grateful that when you put your desires out there to the world, the world will usually work on your behalf to help manifest the reality.

Thanks Kristen and Preston for the suggestion, thank you for believing in me and trusting me, and thank you to the owners of the Red Barn, who trusted our vision and allowed us a few moments into their paradise. and with out further ado....the red barn!

This was a real treat!!! I have not seen Stephanie almost since we graduated high school 10 years ago.......she has since been married to the man of her dreams and most recently had created a brand new life and welcomed their baby daughter, Madaline to the world with open arms and lots of love. Madeline is 10 weeks old and yesterday, Steph and I caught up on times, told stories of the last ten years in each others lives and I was fortunate enough to spend a little time with baby Madeline!!

Here are a couple of images from yesterday. Isn't she beautiful!!!!!!

Steph...I couldn't be more happy for you!! Madeline is more precious than any words I could ever say!! You are a beautiful mother and I wish you the absolute best!!!! and yes......more times to catch up on life is a must!! :)

...for the photog's out there.....I shot all of these with the Canon Mark III, and I used all prime lenses....the 85mm 1.2, the 100 2.8 macro and the 50mm 1.4. I shot everything between 1.2-2.8 ;)

.....the spiky hair.......wild child!!!! :)

I just love little fingers and hands..and bellies!!!!

WOW!!! The TUTU project is underway and things are going....as they go. WONDERFULLY!!! Kids will be kids and that's what I love about them..

Children are real. Their emotions are real. Their enjoyment is true.

I think we can all take lessons from the little people in our lives, open our hearts wider, and just breathe.

Hello!! we are all gearing up here at Melissa Rich Photography for a busy season and I wanted to introduce Meghan!! She is our other AWESOME assistant here at the studio!! She has been a part of our team since August and is ready to take on this year's season!! Meghan is a current student at the Art Institute, getting ready to graduate in December. She just had the most amazing internship out in L.A.with international award winning photographer Matthew Jordan Smith...who has been a huge inspiration to me as well!!

Meghan is preparing to begin shooting for our team, so look for her work coming soon!!!!

I am so happy you are joining us for another season Meghan!! Welcome back and I am soooooo glad to have you!!

I just found out that Heather Allen and Shannon Wilson of Table 6 Productions had a special about trends in the wedding industry featuring flower girls and table decor ideas. This was aired on Lifetime TV for the show Get Married. One of my images from Kara and Matt's wedding last fall was a part of the program!

I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN IN VEGAS FOR WPPI UNTIL FRIDAY MARCH 20TH ;) I WILL BE CHECKING EMAILS (hopefully) WHEN I CAN, SO CHECK BACK WITH SOME POSTS FROM THE TRADESHOW AND OTHER GOODIES :)

So, I am super excited to be going to my 6th WPPI..it's always insane (to say the least) 4 solid days and nights with 30,000 photographers (?) a huge tradeshow and events in the morning and night..It's exausting, and fun and inspiring!!

I am hoping to come back with some new ideas for this year, some new products and maybe some new suprizes!! I'd do my best to post a couple of times while I'm out there :)

......simply LOVE!! gotta Love it! Shea and Lucas flew into Denver from Arizona a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time getting to know each other...It was the first time we had ever met in person! I think the session was awesome and they are just so cool!
Shea and Lucas are tying the knot in June this year in Durango, Colorado! I can't wait!!

Happy Valentines Day!!...I have a lot to post from the last month so stay tuned!! and a couple of BIG surprises on the way :)

I received the sweetest note from a father of the bride today, and it almost brought me to tears! I wanted to share the corspondance between father and daughter in regard to the daughters wedding...it was just the best thing to wake up to! I am humbled, grateful and so glad I get to do this for a living. Each and every one of my clients has a special relationship with me and I wouldn't be here with out YOU!

DA brought the book home from work, and I promptly ripped it open, I was so anxious to see it. She said she wouldn’t dare think of opening it, although I told her it would have been ok. In any event, it was packaged very classily, with the box, and the tissue paper, and then the wheat grass (at least that’s what I thought it was). Did you look at it??? If so, you did a fine job of re-wrapping. All I can say is WOW !!! It is really something special. I mean the pics are terrific, without saying (how could they not be with such a photogenic wedding couple). But the way she put them together, and then grouped them, etc. Really nice. You guys really picked a great photographer !!! I’ve only looked at it a half-dozen time so far…. It was certainly worth the wait. THANK YOU !!!!! (Oh yeah, DA loved it too!!)

This family is so cute!! We did a family session in November and I had to share a couple of them!! One of my favorite things about family shoots is that I like to allow the kids and the adults to just cut loose, have fun...that is what is real! That is where I find their true expression for each other and for the moment! It was a real treat and honor to photograph this family!! I can't wait to see them often as the boys grow up!

I met Genevieve in April at another wedding....Gen is the most fabulous hair stylist!! anyway, she was telling me recently of how grateful she is to have her fiance home from Iraq! He has been gone so long...and as you can only imagine, she missed him!!! (to say the least). Fall spectacular!!! seriously! We have had the best fall this year and when Erika and Matt told me they were getting married on October 20th...I kept thinking, ohhh....I hope we still have the beautiful fall leaves then!!.....Well, we did! and Spectacular they were!! The wedding and reception took place at the beautiful Arrowhead Golf Club. They were so fun to work with!! Here's a few images from their great day!!

THANKSGIVING!!

OH, I love this one!! it's such a great time to spend with family and to just get clear on what I am grateful for in life! So, here are my top 10!

1. My seriously awesome and supportive husband!! --he rocks! :)

2. My Parents who are such an inspiration after being married for 32 years!!

3. The amazing view from our back deck from our house!--it is truly such a gift to live where we do!

4. Our neighbors who have been so encouraging and a touchstone in my life! Thank you for sharing all things great!

5. oh, yes, I'm finally going to say it.......the first SNOW!!! I think I'm finally ready for it!

6. The warm roof over our head!

7. My health of my family and my friends!

8. My friends who forgive me because I NEVER go out with them anymore...because...I'm married, I live too far away and get up way too early.

9. This great new book I am reading called "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's so good!!!!

10. My life career, which I am forever grateful for...I cannot even describe the pleasure I get by serving others in this way! I am truly blessed!

11. How great Thanksgiving is--especially when it's on my Birthday!!...and all I'm going to say is that I was born in the 70's and I have not graduated to the thirty-something club quite yet! :) lol!

OK, so that was 11...but I actually could go on and on! So, I would love to here what you are grateful for...Leave some comments about all the goodies you are grateful for!!
