Waiting for the next M83 album to drop is always a heartaching affair. As in it’s never soon enough. But fear not friends, the time is almost upon us. According to Pitchfork, the new album will be in our hot little hands come mid-october. And to tide us over in the meantime, we’ve got a freebie off of the upcoming double-disc (yep!) “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”. Midnight City is part spooky, part dramatic synths, and pure m83 goodness. I’ll be riding this all the way to the release of the rest of the album as the weather gets cooler and dancing in necessary to keep warm. As usual, Anthony Gonzales has checked the box on the 80s goodness, complete with sexy sexy sax solo. Check out the track below and head over the the M83 site to download it for yourself:

Ok. If you’ve already devoured all the Souther Shores lushness from that last post, get ready for some face-melting dance love. Today FADER previewed Night Is Young a new track from that upcoming Atlantic E.P. that we’re anxiously awaiting. While the earlier stuff is sitting on the beach, this one’s an all night party. Sweet vocal work and fantastic 90′s-reminiscent beats are just what the doc ordered on a rainy monday over here (seriously Denver, WTF?).

And the (quaalude) hits just keep on comin’… Between the chillwave revolution adding to it’s already giant head of steam and the steady stream of relaxation sips that are targeting us right in the pillows, I think it’s safe to say that the Reclining Revolution is on and in full dreamy effect. From the dreamy gold miners over at Cascine Records comes Southern Shores with a mixed up, island soaked sound that fellow tropical-poppers JJ would be proud of. As Cascine recently tweeted themselves, these tracks are definitely the perfect soundtrack for summer. The E.P. is coming out in July, according to the band’s blog, so it shant be long until SS drops big time. For now, you can stream several tracks right from the blog and their soundcloud page. We, for one, are hoping for a full on Quiet Storm revolution next, starting……..now.

Check out Mauna Loa below (macadamias not included):

I think we’ve found our summer record. Being that it’s not even June, I’m giving myself a hefty pat on the back. This Selebrities album just feels like driving around, swimming, and sitting on the fire escape at 3 AM. It’s got the same innocence and pop sensibility that blew me away when I heard The Pains of Being Pure at Heart‘s ST LP for the first time. The artistry here is clear, the production is right on point, and Maria Usbek’s vocals are lush and melty. Yeah, I love this. Now go jump in the fucking pool!

Though one wave of dubstep said farewell, the new class has come on twice as strong. And the ladies are killing – witness Bonjay and our faves of the moment Kito & Reija Lee. An unlikely addition to this group is Danish-by-way-of-Brooklyn man-killer, OhLand. Her breakout single Sun of a Gun has gone bananas and the rest of the album is pretty stellar as well. Though it’s a straightforward, lightly electronic singer’s album, that’s just what some of our favorite producers lie in wait for. A great base makes for great bass. Ok, that was bad. Right, well, Jacob Plant has given this track possibly it’s finest treatment, dropping heavy wobbly bass without sacrificing melody one bit. Check it out:

Well, this was unexpected. I dunno about you, but I know Clock Opera mostly from his gorgeous mixtape for The Hype Machine‘s 2010 Zeitgeist, and various and sundry other nuggets of remix gold. So imagine my surprise to hear his new-ish single, Belongings, all full of pensive, rainy-day vocals and drama. It takes a while, kids, but the payoff on this one is gorgeous. What starts out sounding like emo-folk 101 quickly proves to be a study in vocal sonics, devolving into a night recording of an ancient Belgian monastic jam session. And then it explodes. All I know is that I needed something uplifting today, and this one did the trick.

There’s no question that Let’s Kiss, one of the breakout singles from Brooklyn’s Living Days is Robert Smith all over Take On Me. So let’s stop discussing it. There are more pressing issues here, komrades. Like the fact that this new-wave act sounds more polished than a lot of indie pop vets on Make Out Room, Pt. 1, their 1st EP. And that the influences – which are recognizable – Berlin, The Cure, Rational Youth, and even a little petracovich- are explicit. But that’s where the strength and the come-out-of-nowhere comes from. With sounds so obvious, Living Days are easy to love from the first listen, without the guilt. Actually they’re kind of like that sugar-free candy your Grandma always used to have on her coffee table – except Living Days doesn’t taste like shit.

Make Out Room Part 1 released Oct. 12th via The MuseBox/EMI Distribution
