Lucky in love...

I am very excited that we are about to start production on a brand new music video. I was just browsing through some of our old video’s and this has to be one of my favourites. All shot on an iPhone by Craig Reid (manager and BFF) this video tells a story about an awesome day the band had playing a gig at the Waterfront in Cape Town.

This is really the only happyish love song I have ever written... So because this is 'the day of love'- if your in love, out of love, between loves, have too much love or just plain over love... this song is for you.

Enjoy it! And watch this space for our new video, dropping soon. Love and peace, Lou x

Confessions of a Muso: Life, love and everything else

So I have that thing, that thing which is completely clichéd, but it’s a cliché for a reason. Writers block. You just have to announce to yourself that you want to create a new album, and the songs evaporate into thin air. Now, I don’t want to further the cliché… but you know that image of a writer, ripping his or her hair out, bin over flowing with scrumpled up pieces of paper, well that’s been me, for the last week….So, I did what I do when I need inspiration. And that is, look in my old writing books. It’s like taking a little trip back in time, to what I was thinking, feeling and writing about. Anyway- in an attempt to be inspired I found a little list of goals I wrote from quite a long time ago – Entitled ‘2006 (Mid year -I forgot to do this in January- Goals)” and I think they’re still relevant in 2012…

So they are as follows:

1. Have a goal (good one Louise… )

2. Be kind- always

3. Do something every day that scares you

4. Always be planning a holiday

5. Be careful who you give your heart to- love and people can be unreliable, especially when combined

6. Do things, just beacuse you can

7. Take every opportunity

8. Look before you leap, but don’t lose your spontaneity

9. Make decisions in under a minute

10. Forgive and forget

11. Don't sweat the small stuff, remember the big picture

12. Grow a thicker skin

13. Laugh

That, combined with a whole lot of happy memories of hours of song writing, has finally inspired a little tune. Let's see where it goes.

Peace, Lou x

2012, here we go!

Dolly Parton once said- ‘The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.’ And that’s how I am going to remember 2011. Even though there was some rain, when I look back I see a glorious rainbow, because there was so much good as well. From being nominated for a South African Music Award, to releasing new songs, playing amazing shows- music was the shiniest part of the rainbow for me in 2011.

So…for the new year- a new album. Work starts today and I am so excited to get all the new ideas and songs down :). I hope that 2012 is the best it can be. Throw you heart into what you love and it only can be. Lou x

Folk 'n Acoustic Festival Magic...

And what a night it was... An awesome venue, amazing sound, and such intimate setting to play music -acoustic and raw, just the way the songs were written. After playing my set I couldn't help but think 'wow!'- the vibe was nothing short of electric. After my set, I sat down to watch my fellow musos and there were just so many artists that blew me away with their unbelievable skills and talents. Look out for this show next year. What a pleasure! Thanks to Belia Oh for the awesome pic, L x

Coldplay here we go!

So tonight I (and the rest of Cape Town) are going to watch one of the most amazing bands on planet earth. I first saw Coldplay in Denver, Colorado when I was working as a muso in the states in 2006. Their album, ‘X and Y’ was one of those albums that meant to much to me. Standing there watching them sing the songs that had made me cry, made me think and that had been my ‘sound track’ to a part of my life was an experience I will never forget. Why I love them? The music is honest and they’re one of those bands that don’t just write songs, but poetry as well. Looking forward to being inspired tonight, Coldplay here we go!

I am very proud to have been selected as a member of the Springbok Supporters club. My basic job to spread the Bok vibe, visit the Bok Town venues and of course, watch as much rugby as possible which isn’t hard to do this month ;) The last Bok Town event (SA vs Fiji) was fantastic. I was joined by Adriaan Bergh (Mr. SA 2011) and fellow muso Rory Elliot (Plush) and together we helped to get the vibe going and we even managed to stomach a drink or three at 8am - now that’s a dedicated ambassador ;)

I had never been to a White Room session, which are held every few months at Sound and Motion Studios in Cape Town. The idea is to have a live recorded performance, with an amazing set up from the Sound and Motion Team. I shared the stage with my Jenna Bird and got the show off to an amazing start with Monique Hellenberg warming up the crowd. Check out the pics below to share some of the magic.

Honesty the best policy for songs too

People often ask me what music I listen to, and what music I love. Being a muso, I am always fascinated by what’s playing on the radio, what new music is out there and try to listen to all sorts. But the music I listen to when I get home and pour myself a big glass of wine is pretty specific. I love music that’s honest, a little bit raw and that speaks from the heart. The songs you live you life to- when you are happy or sad. I think listeners can hear genuine. This is maybe the reason why amongst the all the glitzy auto-tuned pop it was not Justin Bieber, but Adele who, so far, has had the top album of 2011…

The Louise Day band are proud to announce that they will be recording their first full length studio album with SA production legend Theo Crous at Bellville Studios, commencing July 2009. The album will reflect the new, edgier piano-root rock sound that the band has been developing over the last year and will undoubtedly showcase the band’s amazing musical talents thanks to the incredible expertise of Theo Crous and his team. His many projects include the recent award-winning albums from The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Louise Carver, and Flat Stanley.

“We are incredibly excited to be working with Theo on this project”, says Louise, “It has been a huge compliment to the band for him to have taken a personal interest in this album and give us the time to make this really special”.
