This absence has been longer than expected, but everything's coming down to the wire with work and school. SO.. I think the best thing to do is officially break until after this semester.
Black Friday is going to be killer, and exams/papers are due back to back, but I WILL return, with everything sparkly and new, very soon.

Long time, no post right?

Well, I had to get vigilant with the job searching, (GOT ONE! WOOO-HOOOO!!), as well as make sure I get through this semester with good grades.

I have to go take an exam in 30 minutes, but I wanted to post the following video beforehand:

PS22 Chorus (5th graders) - 1000 Oceans (Tori Amos cover)

I got CHILLS watching this, because the looks on these little babies' faces are absolutely priceless. Seeing how much they feel it, and how much doing this means to them, brought tears to my eyes.

I can easily recall that feeling, as most of my entire childhood was spent in numerous choruses and small singing groups. Seriously, there's something about that first time hearing yourself blending and connecting with other voices. It's like your soul goes flying, and nothing can really compare.

Watch and be inspired.

Music Monday: Snow Patrol & Low Motion Disco

Snap! Well I haven't done a music post in a while, but today is the day where I've fallen in love with another song/artist.

This has been a stressful two weeks for me, and I'd been trying unsuccessfully to find some new tunes to get lost in. Props have to be given to Jakub on the ISO50 blog for saving the day. His music posts are ALWAYS dead-on with the good stuff, and he didn't disappoint with his latest entry.

The cover of Things Are Gonna Get Easier by Low Motion Disco actually brought me to tears, and I'll just blame that on the aforementioned high stress ..or something.

Really. It's so smooth and relaxing.

The other track I loved is Snow Patrol's The Golden Floor.
Guaranteed to make you bop your head and feel good, it's more up tempo and perfect for walking down the street.

I really dig the mainstream songs I've heard from them. (Hell, I couldn't escape that one song they used for Grey's Anatomy.) However, this track and a few from their newest album, "A Hundred Million Suns," are far better and more fitting to the lead's vocals and the sound they're trying to create.

By the by, tomorrow is a BIG day, and I'm going to be out campaigning all morning.
Depending on whether or not I'm drowning my sorrows, I'll be back on Wednesday.

WOWEE WOWWEE WOW WOW: Toyota iQ

A sweet little compact car is coming to the US that is far better than the SmartCar; more spacious and less expensive.

I have been waiting since late last year to get a Suzuki Splash lookalike in America, and it's finally arriving in the form of the Toyota iQ. Re-branded as a Scion, the iQ will be $15,000 or less, with 56 mpg. That is SERIOUS BUSINESS.

If I can't get my hot little hands on the classic compacts, (Fiat 500, Multipla, or VW Bug), I will definitely settle for this new, adorable automobile.

Lately, I've been fascinated with the aesthetic of romantic, floral jewelry.
It speaks nothing of what I wear or my general attitude in everyday life, my penchant for purple prose aside. I just can't get enough of it.

Something about the chilly weather makes me even more starry-eyed than usual.
It's just so fanciful and sweet. *wistful sigh*

(I'm grossing myself out with how mushy I'm being right now. lol)

Ruche is the perfect place for more of the above. It sort of recalls Anthropologie, but is definitely easier on the bank.

Yesterday, I finally received this month's Domino in the mail.

I count how good an issue is by how many of those nifty flagging stickers are used, and this issue has 9 little tabs sticking out. (Most of which went towards Jenna Lyons' feature.) I even dreamed about her place last night, wishing and hoping and thinking that I could inhabit a home just like it.

The weathered and warped wood flooring in the bathroom, the dark and romantic wall color, the spot-on, perfect pops of yellow.. *drool* It's uncluttered, beautiful, and still functional. Seems the perfect place to refresh yourself, and just be.

I also really adore the closet, (if you can call it that!)
It exemplifies what's so great about the entire home: the eye for balancing the neutral palette with the dark accessories and use of bright colors.

It comes across as so easy and natural. I AM IN LOVE.

So one of my best friends, of 14 years, is getting married today!!

Every time I see Sanaa Lathan, it's like a breath of fresh air. Her demeanor is always so warm, and she's absolutely beautiful.

What I like the most, however, is her ability to always come correct with her fashion choices.

It's harder than it looks to step out effortlessly on point, but Sanaa does it 99.9 percent of the time.

Two women who are usually on the same scene, Nia Long and Gabrielle Union, rarely get the proper recognition for also being consistent with great style.

Everything is just right. The fit is never sloppy, and the color is ALWAYS perfect for their skin tone. Rockin casual, formal, and all looks in between, with absolute grace, is not easy to do, and it's why these women are my style icons.

So that hiatus lasted longer than I expected.
In the time away, I changed the look of the blog and the extended blog-roll is a work in progress.

I even got around to watching the second episode of Friday Night Lights (one of the best and most underrated shows on the small screen right now), and I'm SO glad it's back for season 3. There's something about this show that just feels like home. It's realistic, well-executed, and it has tons of heart.

My favorite part of FNL, is the great soundtrack choices. The characters and scenes are always perfectly enhanced by it.

It was highlighted when a main character drove down an empty country street, and the song below, (beautiful, slightly melancholy) faded in. I stopped everything, typed in a few words from the song, and BOOM! I was on an amazing musical journey, right into the world of Fink.

This Is The Thing

Another new favorite: If Only.

His sound makes me think of Justin Nozuka and Amos Lee. It's the kind of music you wanna play cruising over a dark street, with nothing but stars above for miles and miles. Soulful, peaceful.

Just the right song to start off the week.

(Yea I'm on hiatus, but I couldn't resist posting about my deep infatuation for Rita Konig's small space!)

I received my Domino mag on Tuesday and have since picked it up and flipped to Rita's feature more times than I can count.
She's even posed foreground of a Fiat 500! It's everything I want.

I'm specifically head over heels, heart skipping a few beats, about the bedroom.

The masculine touch of the coverlet and the side table, balanced by the extra girly hearts sheets and gorgeous wallpaper is killing me softly.

Geez, I want to move in right now.

1. Over the weekend, I watched Eddie & The Cruisers II: Eddie Lives. Yea yea, I'm about 20 years late LOL but better late than never right? It's over-dramatic, cheesy, heartfelt, and all around fun.

If only for the songs alone, it's a hugely overlooked classic; the music is surprisingly great.
With his gruff and often gentle approach to the songs, John Cafferty, the voice behind the character Eddie Wilson, did a number on me.

I'm just happy that I came across it.

After working at Old Navy, I've come to realize that the absolute best time of the shopping year is the Fall. Trust and believe, there's nothing like ridiculously cute and moderately priced coats & scarves from ON.

I'm crazy in love with the green pea coat! Time to start saving extra $$.

LOVE: Kanye West

I didn't think it was possible, but Kanye West's performance at the VMAs made my heart grow three times bigger.

*Viacom is snatching up the actual performance footage but enjoy the audio & visuals below.

It was so raw and earnest that I didn't even care about the vocal strength.
He always seems so eager to raise the bar and share a tangible passion, and he can't be faulted for any of that. Although, I was getting beyond sick of the auto-tune usage (I'm looking at you T-PAIN), he brought something fresh to the sound. It's a great song and he kills me with his eye for both style and art.

Here he is looking mighty sharp during Fashion Week.

Love the glasses and the suit looks super relaxed without a tie.
