“Each year, we have students who experience difficulty dealing with the loss of a loved one,” said Candice Paolino, LPS counselor. “That loss is often magnified during the holiday season. This is an easy way for all of us to visually show we care for one another, and it really can make a difference to a grieving child.”

The Children’s Grief Awareness Day was started in Pennsylvania, and is observed on the third Thursday of every November.

“This was our opportunity in Loveland to visually let the children know we care,” said Paolino. “That is the message we sent, and it was an important message for those students to hear.”

“This is a nice format to deliver this concept to this age group,” said Kevin Fancher, LPS principal. “The performance kept the students engaged, and the lesson is an important one to introduce at this level.”

Duke Energy sponsored the show, which included workbooks the students could take home. Duke Energy is also encouraging all families to sign up for a free energy savings kit; the school with the most parents signing up will receive $1,000 from Duke, and every family who signs up will be automatically entered into a drawing for $5000. You can sign up for the kit at: http://myenergykit.org/.

CoSI on Wheels is coming to Loveland Primary and Loveland Elementary the week of December 3rd – 7th.

The most critical aspect of every COSI On Wheels program are the volunteers who assist with the hands-on sessions. It is very important for them to be present in order to provide a quality hands-on science experience for the students. These volunteers need no science background, only ENTHUSIASM and ENERGY for a great day.

The Loveland Elementary PTA needs your help to make sure our kids are able to participate in all the activities CoSI has in store.

Children’s Grief Awareness Day- Thursday, November 15th! Wear Blue to show your support!!!
What is Children’s Grief Awareness Day? Children’s Grief Awareness Day seeks to bring attention to the fact that often support can make all the difference in the life of a grieving child.
Children’s Grief Awareness Day provides an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of the painful impact that the death of a loved one has in the life of a child, an opportunity for all of us to recognize and support the millions of grieving children across the nation—the thousands of grieving children right in our own communities—and the grieving children we know and see in our daily lives, an opportunity to make sure that these children receive the support they need.
Grieving children need support. And the first step in that support is for the rest of us to become more aware of what these children are going through. Children’s Grief Awareness Day is designed to help us all become more aware of the needs of grieving children and of the benefits that they obtain through the support of others.
This special day was started in Pennsylvania and is observed on the third Thursday of every November (one week before the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving), Children’s Grief Awareness Day is intentionally set in the holiday season, often a particularly difficult time for those grieving the loss of a loved one.
No matter the level of support, being involved shows people’s awareness of what grieving children might be going through and demonstrates solidarity with the children. With so many taking part, “Children’s Grief Awareness Day” is like a huge shout saying “In Loveland, we care!” to those who have felt so alone in their grief.
About HOPE the butterfly
HOPE the Butterfly was created to spread this message of hope to grieving children across the world that “it won’t always hurt so bad.”
No one can just take away a child’s grief. No one can bring back the person who has died. But we can show grieving children that they’re not alone. We can show them we care. We can show them their Loveland community is there for them.
Grieving children can hold on to our support, our care. Grieving children can hold on to hope—the hope that it won’t always hurt so bad.

The Loveland School District – under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen and Treasurer Brett Griffith – presented the 2012 State of the Schools address Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Loveland Middle School auditorium. The presentation included results from a citizen satisfaction survey conducted by Fallon Research, a recap of the district’s current financial condition, and a vision for the academic direction of the district.

“Our children are blessed to live in a community that provides exceptional learning opportunities,” said Marschhausen. “The true partnership between parents, teachers, extended families, our faith community, and youth organizations all demonstrate the investment and commitment to developing the whole child.”

Marschhausen unveiled a plan for advancing education in the district by incorporating blended learning and cutting-edge assessment testing.

“We will bring blended learning – the marriage of technology and instructional talent – to Loveland’s secondary students,” said Marschhausen. “Computers don’t replace our rock star teachers; computers provide these instructional leaders a larger platform on which to perform efficiently, effectively and with personalized instruction. This is a student-centered approach to learning that allows the district to utilize each teacher’s skills, talents and assets to the fullest.”

For those interested, a video of the complete presentation is available for viewing (see link below).

In a continued effort to understand the education needs of the community, the district currently has two surveys available for parents and students to utilize. These surveys will be available on the district website through December 14 (links included below).

Dr. Marschhausen also plans to host a series of “School House” meetings to offer the public an opportunity to get questions answered (dates and locations are listed below). In addition, Marschhausen will participate in a “Java Week” prior to Thanksgiving – setting up at Starbucks to chat with Loveland residents about the state of the district.

In a story where numbers are the main attraction, it seems appropriate to begin with one staggering figure: 400. That is the final tally of participants who attended the Loveland Elementary School (LES) Family Math Night Thursday, Oct. 25.

“The turnout really speaks to the excitement family members have when presented with the opportunity to participate in an educational activity with their children,” said Jennifer Forren, LES principal. “This program is a lesson to us all that learning is not limited to the classroom; we are partners in the success of our children.”

Family Math Night is a component of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space – an innovative math program for students in kindergarten through fifth grades. The research-based, child-centered approach teaches math through engaging activities, discussion and problem solving. The Loveland school district implemented this learning method seven years ago.

Teachers designed Thursday’s Family Math Night for first through fourth graders. There were 22 teachers available to guide families through games designed to teach mathematical application, problem solving and communication skills.

“When you have innovation in education and dedicated teachers coupled with excited parents and students – it is a formula that adds up to success,” said Forren. “We – 100 percent – had a blast.”

A big Tiger thanks to Jane Miller, LES building coordinator, and Kevin Rodriquez, fourth-grade teacher, for organizing the event!
