Daniel Radcliffe Speaks To LBGT Teens In New Trevor Project PSA

As if we needed more reasons to love and respect Daniel Radcliffe. The "Harry Potter" actor successfully carried a history-making franchise on his shoulders for more than a decade, charmed audiences on the Great White Way with his critically acclaimed performance in "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" and is making great post-"Potter" career choices.

Not only is he generally talented and charming, but he has also put his star power behind the Trevor Project, which is a nonprofit organization that offers support to sexual minority youth, particularly those experiencing emotional difficulty dealing with their sexuality who need someone to talk to. The Trevor Project also endeavors to foster safe and inclusive environments in homes and schools.

Radcliffe's latest work with the organization is a 30-second PSA that aired Tuesday night during "Glee" and MTV News now has exclusively online. In the spot, Radcliffe addresses the very important issue of supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.

"I'm Daniel Radcliffe, and I believe that reaching out for help is the bravest thing a person can do," Radcliffe says in the PSA. "If you are struggling and need support, call the Trevor Lifeline at 1-866-488-7386. It's free and confidential, and trained counselors are there to listen 24/7 without judgment."

The 22-year-old said in a statement that his work with the Trevor Project has taught him the importance of being a straight ally and offering his support. "When we let someone know that we accept them for who they are and that we are safe to talk to, we can help save lives," he said. "It's as simple as that."

Radcliffe has been involved with the Trevor Project since 2009, appearing in public service announcements for the group's prevention hot line and speaking out in support of LGBT youth. Radcliffe has called his work with the Trevor Project "one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I'm associated with."

Daniel Radcliffe's 'The Woman in Black' holds UK box office top spot

Daniel Radcliffe's The Woman in Black has topped the UK box office with £3.5 million in ticket sales. The supernatural horror, from British studio Hammer, holds off competition from The Muppets for the second consecutive weekend to emerge as the UK's number one movie.

Nicolas Cage's comic book sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is the only new release to trouble the top ten, debuting in third place with £1.3 million. Star Wars prequel The Phantom Menace falls to number four, while Journey 2: The Mysterious Island completes the top five.

With schools on holiday for half-term last week (February 13 to February 17), the box office saw a rise in business with Woman in Black, The Muppets and Journey 2 all increasing their takings from the previous week.

However, the Oscar-tipped silent movie The Artist saw the biggest leap in business as it boosted tickets sales by a huge 102% from the previous week to re-enter the top 10. Michel Hazanavicius's film has now earned more than £6.8 million after nine weeks on release.

He's been immersed in promotions for his new movie "The Woman In Black," but Daniel Radcliffe made time to tend to cover duties for the March 2012 issue of Attitude. The "Harry Potter" star was his typical vocal self, as he offered up a candid interview while calling for gay marriage, better education in schools and equality. On being an energetic child:
"I don't think there's been a time in my life when I haven't gone up the stairs two at a time. I run everywhere. I didn't sleep a full night until I was about eight. If there was a sack race at school I's practice with a pillowcase on the stairs. It's why my parents didn't have any more kids. I was enough, a handful. I was very sweet, polite and loved the company of adults from a young age, but all my school reports said the same thing: 'Dan's lovely, but he's crap at the work and he talks too much."

On whether he ever wanted to end 'Harry Potter' prematurely:
"Not really. Even in the darkest moments of my teenage years there was never a time when I thought, 'I wish I'd never done this'. Okay, maybe once. Around the sixth film we found out my parents were being followed by a private investigator. That was a hard time and I thought, 'This wouldn't be happening if I wasn't who I was'. But other than that, no: it's given me everything, every opportunity I will ever get."

On whether he's ever had sex with, kissed or fancied another guy:
"No. I can quite happily say someone is handsome, good looking and I can see why someone would want to f*** them, but I've never felt that way about a man myself. There is that moment in your late teens when you ask yourself the question, 'Am I?' But I wasn't."

On a guy he's had a crush on:
"Well, this year I have a talent crush on Ryan Gosling. I think he's fantastic and you know he'd be nice afterwards. He seems smart. If I was gay I would go for a smart man."

Daniel Radcliffe is "honoured" to be a sex symbol. The 22-year-old actor - who is currently dating Rosie Coker - is always surprised to be told by fans that he is the object of their lust but he always feels that they are attracted to him.

He said: "I got told the other day I had a really nice ass. I didn't know that. I don't mind it. "It's fine if people want to make me the subject of their sexual fantasies - good luck to them, fantastic, I'm honoured to be in their dreams. "Growing up I never thought that would be the case so it's very flattering and not something to object to at all."

Rosie has previously questioned the 'Harry Potter' star about having gay friends that are attracted to him, but he admits he rarely thinks about it. In an interview with Attitude magazine, he said: "The other day my girlfriend Rosie asked me, 'Do you find it weird that some of your gay mates think about you sexually?'

"I've never really thought about it but I don't care - if they want to it's fine. I don't care who fancies me, I care who I fancy."

The Woman in Black actor Daniel Radcliffe has spoken out about why he has decided to suddenly be so open and honest about his relationship with Rosie Coker. Daniel, who has also talked publicly about his alcohol problems, claims that his main reason for talking publicly about such personal information is because he does not want to feel that he has to lie during his interviews.

Radcliffe explained, “In the last year I’ve come to the conclusion that the easiest way to be is to have as little difference between how people perceive you and how you actually are. Otherwise, I come and do interviews like this and I feel like I am lying or have something to hide. I talked about Rosie because pictures came out and people asked, ‘Who’s she’ and I talked about the drinking thing because it came up and it felt better to be honest.”

Daniel, 22, was joined by Hollywood actor Cuba Gooding Jr, comedian Omid Djalili and troubled Irish singer Sinead O'Connor on The Graham Norton Show and the Harry Potter star discussed everything from alcohol problems to escaping the role that made him famous.

But for his female fans at least, it will be the comments Radcliffe made about his girlfriend Rosie Coker that are of most interest when the episode is broadcast tomorrow night on BBC1. The actor, who is currently promoting his first post-Potter movie role in The Woman In Black, told Graham that he had recently met Rosie's parents for the first time, fuelling marriage rumours that were sparked when a friend of claimed the star was on the brink of proposing.

Daniel told Graham: 'I just met my girlfriend’s parents for the first time, but we are a little way off calling them my in-laws. It was a uniquely nerve-wracking experience. 'She wasn’t there and I took them out for lunch. It was lovely but at the end of it I did have to ask, "Have I passed?" When I got the script I did think it would be a bit of a leap for everyone to see me as a dad when they had seen me in a schoolboy outfit for the best part of 10 years.

'I never thought it would change people’s opinion of me, but it is a good start. It’s a very different sort of film for people to see me in but there is never going to be one part that completely separates me from those 10 years of my life. 'So it’s more about getting people accustomed to seeing me in different films and keeping busy.”

Radcliffe also addressed public perception of his former drinking habits, after he recently admitted that he stopped drinking alcohol because he believed he had a problem with it. Denying he ever drank on the set of Harry Potter, he said: 'I didn’t drink at work but it was more a case of getting very drunk the night before and then going into work. It is part of my life. It was part of the 10 years.'

Daniel Radcliffe "Upset" Over Potter Remake Possibilities

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he's "upset" about the prospect of the Harry Potter movies being remade without him. When asked about the possibility of their being remakes of the wizard flicks, the 22-year old told The Dave Gorman Show on Absolute Radio: "Oh there's bound to be, and it upsets me now, you know.

"I didn't mind the Clash of the Titans movie, you know... but the thing that annoyed me was that Pegasus was black. It's like 'Why? Why?' 'Just change the colour just 'cos, just because we can, because it's a remake and it's new, let's change the colour'. It's Pegasus, he's supposed to be white, he's always white."

He added: "I know that that will happen with Potter and it'll be like, I don't know, Hagrid will be a skinhead and it'll all just be weird."He went on to joke that he would love to play Harry's father if the wizard flicks were remade, stating: "I've been kind of thinking who I'd like to play in the inevitable remakes, and I've decided I'd quite like to play James Potter.

"Just play my dad, nice two or three days work, you know. Yeah, that would be nice."The Woman In Black star has previously claimed that he would happily play Harry Potter again, but only if the material was good enough.

Daniel Radcliffe horror film tops UK box office chart

The latest adaptation of Susan Hill's novel, about a lawyer haunted by a vengeful ghost, made £3.15m in the UK and Ireland between Friday and Sunday. That saw off main rival The Muppets, which had to settle for second place with debut weekend takings of £2.65m.

The 3D version of the first Star Wars prequel is third in this week's chart. More than a decade on from its 1999 release, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace took £1.52m, a figure that includes takings from one day of previews.

Romantic drama The Vow - the top film in the US and Canada over the weekend - was the fourth most popular title in the UK and Ireland. The film, about a husband and wife whose relationship is rocked after she suffers memory loss, made £1.09m in its first three days in cinemas.

That left sci-fi fantasy Chronicle, last week's number one, at number five with a second weekend haul of £1.02m. The Woman in Black, which opened in the US on 3 February, was released in 412 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday. Its director, James Watkins, said he was "thrilled that a British ghost story, made with a British cast, crew and investment, is playing so well with British audiences".

Daniel Radcliffe Reveals He's an Atheist

Rumor has it that Daniel Radcliffe is an atheist. And not just any old garden variety atheist. The Harry Potter star is a militant atheist, and it's not the rumor mill that spilled the beans about his religious or rather anti-religious attitudes. Radcliffe described himself as a "militant atheist" in a recent interview.

Twenty-two year-old old Daniel Radcliffe was raised in a Christian/Jewish household, but he believes the separation of religion and education is an absolute necessity because sex education is so important.

"I'm not religious," Radcliffe revealed in a recent interview with Attitude Magazine. "I'm an atheist, and a militant atheist when religion starts impacting on legislation. We need sex education in schools. Schools have to talk to kids from a young age about relationships, gay and straight. In Britain it's better - more of a conversation is being had."

Daniel Radcliffe is absolutely correct about that. Religion should not impact the governing of nations or intrude unwanted into the daily lives of citizens. As for sex education, he's right about that as well. It is certainly in pitiful shape in the US. In fact, original sex positive feminist Susie Bright once despaired that America is a nation of sexual illiterates. And sadly, she was, and still is, correct.

It is interesting that Daniel Radcliffe would suddenly "come out" and announce his atheism to the world. Is he simply once again sharing or over sharing with the media? He's certainly done that before. Or is he laying the ground work for a future post-acting career in English politics? Radcliffe considers himself a true political animal with decidedly left-wing leanings. Only time will tell.

The question that may come to mind is: Isn't DR afraid his admission of atheism might alienate his fans? Apparently not. And what if he does lose a few or a few million? The guy's got a long way to go before he has to worry about being "on the dole" as they say in the UK. The Harry Potter franchise took care of that.
