Daniel Radcliffe To Dive Deep Into 'Tokyo Vice'

Daniel Radcliffe has found his next role, according to Deadline, and once again, he has picked something unlike anything that he's done before. As the lead in "Tokyo Vice," Radcliffe will play real-life journalist Jake Adelstein, who risked his life to investigate the yakuza while working for a newspaper in Japan. The film's title and source material comes from the book that Adelstein wrote about his experiences covering the dangerous beat.

"Tokyo Vice" adds another credit to a growing list of impressive upcoming projects for the "Harry Potter" alum. "Kill Your Darlings" pretty much killed at Sundance this year, with Radcliffe earning much of the praise himself. He also recently wrapped on "The F Word" and "Horns," a fantastical thriller where he'll play a rock star who literally grows horns out of his forehead. Radclilffe is also attached to "Frankenstein," a new take on the Mary Shelley story from the writer of "Chronicle."

West End theatre teaches Daniel Radcliffe a thing or two

Daniel, 23, won rave reviews for Equus in London in 2007 and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying on Broadway in 2011 and will appear in a West End production of The Cripple Of Inishmaan this summer. He told express.co.uk columnist Lizzie Cundy at the Royal Opera House: “I think the one thing you learn about stage is stamina – being able to sustain a performance.

“You need to listen to the other actors and let that inform a scene so it becomes different every night.”He added that he doesn’t yearn for Potter: “I miss certain people but I’m loving being able to do my own thing, so not particularly. “I miss aspects of it but I don’t miss playing the part.”

Hard for Daniel Radcliffe to get rid of Potter tag

Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who rose to fame as Harry Potter, hopes one day he would be known just as an actor, with no “Potter” tag trailing him. The 23-year-old started with “Harry Potter” franchise in 2001 and stayed associated with it for almost 10 years. “I do think it will be another few years before we see an article that won’t mention Potter. I’m not sure that will happen,” contactmusic.com quoted him saying.

He added: “The goal isn’t to stop Harry Potter being written about; that’s unachievable. The goal is to make myself an actor rather than just one character. I think that’s starting to happen.”The actor, who was last seen in horror film “The Woman in Black”, believes in self-criticism. He said: “I think it’s important to be your own toughest critic because that way you’ll always be driven to get better. But it’s important to temper that with being able to give yourself credit for something you’re pleased with.”“I was very bad at that before. I was unable to see anything good, but now I’m starting to,” he added.

Daniel Radcliffe to star in West End's 'Inishmaan' revival

Daniel Radcliffe is to star in director Michael Grandage's new West End staging of Martin McDonagh's "The Cripple of Inishmaan," producers said. Best known for playing the titular wizard in the Harry Potter film franchise, Radcliffe also has appeared in the stage productions of "Equus" and "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying."

His latest theater project is to begin preview performances June 8. Opening night is set for June 18 and the show is scheduled to run through Aug. 31. The revival of "Inishmaan" is to co-star Ingrid Craigie, Padraic Delaney, Sarah Greene, Gillian Hanna, Gary Lilburn, Conor MacNeill, Pat Shortt and June Watson. Playbill.com said this marks the play's first major London revival since it premiered at the National Theatre in 1996.

TEARFUL Daniel Radcliffe says farewell to fellow Harry Potter star Richard Griffiths yesterday as he is laid to rest in a 3ft-wide coffin. Dan, 23, sobbed as he led tributes to portly Richard, 65, who died after a heart op last month. Actors Nigel Havers, John Nettles, David Bradley and Richard’s godson Jack Whitehall were also at the church in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warks. Richard E Grant, in cult movie Withnail and I with Richard as Uncle Monty, sent a veg wreath — a nod to a scene in the film.

Daniel Radcliffe Heads to the Small Screen

The British star of Harry Potter fame steps slightly back in time once more, playing adolescent Russian doctor Vladimir Bomgard, who must face up to his own insecurities regarding his inexperience as well as the more pressing problems of the time in revolutionary Russia.

The four-part mini-series aired in the UK in December. Radcliffe is no stranger to historical drama, his first (pre-Harry Potter) part being in a TV adaptation of David Copperfield, and more recent works including My Boy Jack on the BBC and the terrifying The Woman in Black last year.

Radcliffe is particularly happy with A Young Doctor’s Notebook, feeling particularly comfortable in the “drama comedy” genre. “Comedy is everywhere in life,” says the young actor. “Even in somebody’s darkest moments you can find something to laugh about. Drama-comedy describes real life better than just ‘drama’.”

Although the series is set in revolutionary Russia, Radcliffe believes that its themes and questions are relevant to anybody watching. Based on the autobiographical writings of Russian author Mijail Bulgakov, A Young Doctor’s Notebook asks its audience whether people are genuinely capable of taking advice from others, or whether making our own mistakes is both inevitable and necessary.

"Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe says he would love to try his hand at directing. The 23-year-old actor, who has been very selective about his movie roles, said he will don the director's hat very soon, reported Contactmusic. "I would love to direct, definitely and I hope I get to do that soon," he said. Radcliffe was on the red carpet at Jemeson Empire Awards where he was named Empire Hero. Since leaving "Harry Potter", the actor has mixed film roles with "The Woman in Black" to "A Young Director's Notebook".

The 23-year-old Harry Potter wizard laid bare his cauldron of ambition in an exclusive chat with Guilty Pleasures as film fans voted him their ‘hero’ at the Jameson Empire Awards in London. ‘I don’t think (I’ll get an Oscar), no,’ admitted the self-deprecating British actor as he embarks on a film world without his wand.

‘I don’t think anybody takes a part and says “I’m going to get an Oscar for this” if you do that there’s something quite wrong with you,’ he said after recently tackling the role of gay poet Allen Ginsberg in new flick Kill Your Darlings. ‘It’s not something that’s even crossing my mind to be honest, I mean if it happened it would be incredible!’

‘I do (the roles) because I love the people I get to work with and the stories I’m telling,’ he explained at the Grosvenor House hotel bash. The Woman In Black actor also confessed the attention surrounding him has gone up a gear since his Harry Potter days. ‘It’s actually got a lot worse, it’s (the attention) a lot more full on now. ‘I have no explanation for it but it’s definitely something I’ve noticed.’

Radcliffe joins the likes of Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Jude Law, who have all walked away with the Empire hero title. Meanwhile other winners from the glitzy bash hosted by Ed Byrne include Bond director Sam Mendes, who scooped three awards.

The 47-year-old picked up best director and best film for Oscar winning Skyfall as well as the ‘inspiration’ award. Dame Helen Mirren, 67, was bestowed with this year’s ‘legend’ award and Danny Boyle collected the Empire outstanding contribution gong.

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence failed to show up to collect her latest trophy for best actress in recognition of her role in The Hunger Games. The 22-year-old thanked fans on video instead from Hawaii. Other guests at the ceremony included Sir Ian McKellen, Sam Claflin, Beth Tweddle, Blake Harrison and Laura Whitmore.

Daniel Radcliffe returns to London theater

The time is coming – maybe sooner than you expect – when you look at Daniel Radcliffe and don’t think “Harry Potter.”

The 23-year-old actor has gone from boy wizard to Broadway hoofer to Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, whom he plays in the new film “Kill Your Darlings.” He has several wildly different films lined up, and is soon to take to the London stage as star of Martin McDonagh’s barbed comedy “The Cripple of Inishmaan.”

The play gives audiences the chance to see Radcliffe in yet another new light, as Billy, a disabled orphan in 1930s Ireland who harbors an unlikely dream of Hollywood stardom.

“Cripple,” which opens in June for a 12-week run, is part of a West End season of plays overseen by director Michael Grandage, who has assembled an A-list company of actors that includes Radcliffe, Ben Whishaw, Judi Dench and Jude Law.

First staged in 1996, the play is a typically potent mix of comedy and cruelty from the writer-director of the violent, witty movies “In Bruges” and “Seven Psychopaths.”“He walks that line between tragedy and comedy so brilliantly,” Radcliffe said of McDonagh.

“I think one of the hilarious things about this play is, by our standards today, how politically incorrect it is,” said the actor in the troupe’s office atop a West End playhouse. “So much of the comedy is just people being relentlessly cruel to Billy.

“I’m trying to write something at the moment, and it’s just so dark, and I think it’s funny, but I’m not sure if anybody else ever would. I aspire to be a poor man’s Martin McDonagh.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the one-time boy wizard is a fan of the edgier end of comedy – and that he’s working on a screenplay. His entire post-Potter career feels designed to wrong-foot anyone seeking to pigeonhole him.

The play is Radcliffe’s first time on the West End stage since his 2007 run in “Equus,” Peter Shaffer’s play about a troubled stable boy who blinds horses. It featured the then-teenage actor in a nude scene, which triggered a deluge of “Harry Potter’s Wand” headlines. But critics praised the young actor’s brave and committed performance.

Radcliffe said “Equus” was “a signal of intent as to what I wanted to do.”“I didn’t just want to take an easy way out of this. I wanted to really try and take risks and make a career for myself.”Since then, he’s mixed movies and theater work, including a 2011 Broadway run as a scheming businessman in “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.”

He’s shot three films due to come out in the next year. “Kill Your Darlings,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, stars Radcliffe as Ginsberg – Beat poetry, gay sex scenes and all. Radcliffe says he’s never been prouder of a piece of work.

He’s also filmed “The F Word,” which he calls a “very funny, very sweet but also very smart” romantic comedy from Canadian director Michael Dowse. “I don’t want to say (I’m) playing myself, exactly,” Radcliffe said, “but (I’m) playing a character that’s fairly high-anxiety, slightly hyperactive guy.”

He’s especially excited about “Horns,” a film by French horror auteur Alexandre Aja about a bereaved man who grows devilish horns that allow him access to the thoughts and feelings of others. “It’s a love story, it’s a revenge movie, it’s a horror movie in parts – it’s going to be crazy,” said Radcliffe, who made an earlier foray into horror movies with “The Woman in Black.”

Next, he will star as mad-scientist’s assistant Igor in Max Landis’ pop-culture spin on the “Frankenstein” story. All in all, it’s an eclectic list of projects. Radcliffe says there is a philosophy guiding his career choices, but “it’s very basic. It’s just what excites me. It’s what gets me interested.”

“Hopefully later on this year people will start to see some very different performances from me. And hopefully some really good movies,” he said. “It’s about the movie as a whole, not just people studying my performance and seeing how I’m getting different and how I’m growing up.”

Radcliffe accepts that fascination with how he’s growing up is unlikely to fade altogether. But he seems comfortable with the Harry Potter legacy, happy to have made the often tricky transition from child star to adult actor.

The “Harry Potter” moviemakers have been praised for creating a stable creative home for their young stars, who went from preteens to adults over the course of eight films released between 2001 and 2011.

“I feel like everyone wanted Potter to be more of a handcuff than it actually was,” said the resolutely well-adjusted Radcliffe.

“I think Harry Potter is going to be around for a while – a long while – but as long as it doesn’t inhibit me getting parts in the present time, then it’s fine. It’s a lovely association to have, because it’s something I’m incredibly proud of. “People always say, ‘Don’t you just want to forget about it?’ No! That was my entire adolescence.”
