The singer, whose new promo has accrued 24 million views on YouTube since debuting on April 9, explained that the visuals for the track are about not wanting to get her heart broken. "The music video is all about being afraid to fall in love because you don't wanna get hurt again," she explained - adding that the black paint on her hands symbolises the things she can't let go of.

"Styling for the video... I just wanted something sophisticated yet rockier and chic all at the same time," she said. "It's the first time I've worn heels since I broke my ankle so I'm not moving around that much. Demi Lovato Finally Hits Top 10 on Social 50 Chart

Demi Lovato hits the top 10 on Billboard's Social 50 chart for the first time, as she jumps 17-8, following the debut of her video for "Heart Attack" on April 9. Lovato reaches the top 10 in her 115th week on the chart -- she has been a near-constant presence on the Social 50 since it launched in December 2010.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions.

In its first week, "Heart Attack's" VEVO video has accumulated 16 million views, helping Lovato gain 429,000 news fans to her fanbase across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. In terms of overall plays, she improves over the previous week with 8 million total plays (up by 38%).

Elsewhere in the top 10, PSY is back on the Social 50 as the K-Pop star re-enters at No. 9 following the arrival of his new single and video for "Gentleman." He arrives with the addition of 91,000 new Facebook fans (up 22%) and 33,000 new followers on Twitter (up 50%). According to YouTube, "Gentleman" received a whopping 18.9 million global YouTube views on the day it debuted (April 13), setting the record for the most views of a music video in one day.

As for the rest of the top 10: Rihanna rises 2-1 to re-claim the No. 1 spot, knocking down Taylor Swift (1-2). Justin Bieber remains steady at No. 3 while One Direction climbs (6-4) right above Shakira (7-5). Justin Timberlake tumbles (5-6) along with Bruno Mars (4-7) while Pitbull anchors (12-10).

Farther down the tally, Paramore re-enters at No. 45 with the addition of 149,000 new overall fans (up 11%). The return comes as the band bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with its new self-titled album.

The group saw a 32% rise in reaction on Facebook, where fan chatter led to 100,000 new fans. Also contributing to the band's re-entry is a 67% increase in weekly Wikipedia page views that saw over 200,000 people visiting their page.

Friendship Unbroken: Demi Lovato & Selena Gomez Still Friends?

A few hours ago the hash tag "Semi is Unbroken" trended on Twitter. True fans know that "Semi" is the coined name between former BFF's Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. Did the trending tweet signify something vital between Demi and Selena? Everyone knows that the former BFFs haven't spoken to each other in a while. Does the tweet mean that the former gal pals have patched things up?

Before all the fame, glory and drama, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were inseparable. Both having come from the children's show, "Barney", the two supported each other until appearing together in Disney.

Selena and Demi have been best friends for over seven years. Yet, the friendship was quick to fade since Demi's rehabilitation for self-harm and eating disorders. As for Gomez, the lovely Latina was quite busy with then-beau, Justin Bieber. This along with other issues had caused a permanent rift between the two stars. "Selena and I aren't as close as we used to be," explained Demi in an interview with Self back in 2012. "But she'll always have a place in my heart," added Lovato. While Lovato claims she isn't as close as she had used to be with Gomez, Selena had said otherwise.

"There's an amount of love that can never, no matter what, be taken away or torn apart, no matter the situation. There are certain people who you will always, always love, so if anything, this just reminded me of how much I truly love her," stated Selena Gomez about Demi Lovato in an interview with Seventeen magazine. However, with Demi's recent interview back in March 13, things might have gone south for the former BFFs.

"A lot of celebrities don't open up to their fans. They just tell them what they want to hear. They don't really tell them things that can benefit their lives. They just, you know, maybe flaunt around a boyfriend and sell a couple albums. That's not what my career is about," stated Demi in an interview qith KDWB Minnesota radio station.

Clearly, this was a jab against Selena Gomez who had then been in a relationship with Justin Bieber. Selena Gomez said nothing about the statement and had obviously moved on from Demi. Still, this would not explain the trending tweet on Twitter, "Semi Is Unbroken."

Did reconciliation between the two friends happen behind closed doors? Fans may only hope so given it'll only be a few hours away before Selena hits the stage for the MTV Movie Awards. If anything, "Semi" fans can only hope Lovato says great things about Selena's performance.

Single Review: ‘Heart Attack’ by Demi Lovato

I have always viewed Demi Lovato as a hard worker when it comes her desire to improving her vocal range and delivery. For me, that is the quality about her that is right away noticeable. Even though she isn’t the best singer around by any stretch of the imagination, she has improved significantly as evidenced in each succeeding album she has released.

“Heart Attack” follows where Demi’s biggest previous hit to date, “Give your Heart a Break,” had left off. It continues the theme of dealing with distress and burnout from relationships. Within this range of subject matters is where I feel Demi Lovato is most comfortable because she conveys her emotions with ease and without holding back, which is a good thing.

This characteristic of her singing matches well with her personality, as she has that spunk about her and a feistiness that comes out naturally. That “spunk” she didn’t often show that side of her when she was a judge for “The X Factor”. Instead, Demi Lovato kept it for her records and it shows in her latest lead single “Heart Attack”.

When I first got to listen to the song in its entirety, I found it immediately fun to listen to because of the intrumentation, arrangement, and the production value of the single. Demi Lovato has a guarranteed hit here. Demi Lovato has exhibited the kind of growth that every artist needs for her music career flourish and last. While the theme of her lyrics has remained fairly the same with a few minor changes here and there, that monotony won’t stop her latest single “Heart Attack” from becoming a chart topper. Expect her fan base to grow even more.

When it comes to her choice of lyrics, it still does mesh well with the production despite it leaning towards a dancier vibe since it is categorically an electropop song. None of the lyrics feels like it was sped-up, or given more “treatment” than it actually deserves. Demi’s voice still sounds very natural. Why so? It is because when Demi Lovato starts to wail–if you listen very carefully–you can hear signs of her voice starting to strain as she stretches it out as hard as she can over the bridge of the song. Demi Lovato didn’t sound like she was trying too hard but rather that she was exploring how far her vocal range could go. Kudos to that! “Heart Attack” is co-written by Demi Lovato along with Jason Evigan, Mitch Allan, Sean Douglas and Nikki Williams, and produced by The Suspex. Demi Lovato’s fourth studio album “Demi” from Hollywood Records will be released on May. 14, 2013.

Demi Lovato Paints Over Love In 'Heart Attack' Video

Need a lesson in staring down love? Demi Lovato is warding it off with her newest video for "Heart Attack," and she'll do anything to stop those mushy feelings from sinking in. The Chris Applebaum-directed clip, which premiered on E! on Tuesday (April 9) night, begins with an intense glare from Lovato as she prepares for battle and puts her defenses up. She emerges from a pool of thick, black paint, saturating her features while she sings the opening lines of the powerful track.

Before things get too dark, shots change and we see Demi smirking and flirting before a white backdrop. She looks fresh-faced and natural, with shimmery eyes, rosy cheeks and pink lips. But as she raises her hands, the black comes back, graphite covering her fingers and forearms. "You make me glow," her voice soars over the slow-churning bass. "But I cover up, won't let it show."

Masking her radiance, her dark handprints start to cover up her body, like leftover ink from reading a newspaper. Demi curls up her hands, emotion bubbling up and swelling within. She winces and wrenches out the buildup to the chorus, a visible fury gnawing from inside. As the music drops, Lovato transforms into an aggressive rocker. Her jet-black hair is windblown despite being in a stale garage. Her three-piece band grinds out the jam behind her with their amps stacked up under fluorescent lights and their cords circling the ground Demi stomps on.

Paint the color of gunmetal drips down her white backdrop, as the singer is in full-force, fighting off her crush's magneticism. The video's different versions of Demi offer simultaneous harmony and ad-libs as the song ends. The clip delivered the same type of edginess Demi teased before, and now, fans can see the singer's black-dipped hands in a new light. "I'm taking on a different look this time around," Lovato told MTV News in February. "I feel like I have my own thing going, like rocker-chic sophisticated, just a different kind of fashion style this time around."

And even though she's putting her defenses up in "Heart Attack," one of the song's producers, Jason Evigan, half of the Suspex, says that Demi's diving headfirst into her new style, which will shine through on her next album, Demi, out May 14. "She's one who is so not about just trying to be what's on radio," Evigan said. "She's a total original soul. She just wants to make what moves her. And if it moves her, she loves it."

In a Twitpic the X Factor USA judge can be seen looking fresh-faced, with rosy cheeks, groomed eyebrows and her naturally dark eyelashes framing her deep brown peepers. She tweeted: "Ladies, be brave today.. take off your make-up and stop using those filters!! WE are beautiful!!!"

When her followers posted their own pics in return, she offered them compliments and encouragement to build their self-confidence. Using the nickname she has given to her fans she added: "To all my Lovatics - if you come across haters, show them love. We don't bully back or retaliate. That's not what we are about!!"

Demi has previously admitted that she joined the panel of X Factor USA too soon after her stint in rehab in 2011. The telly judge, 20, sought help from an in-patient facility in Illinois two years ago to combat her issues with bulimia and self-harm. She joined the American talent-seeking show the following year alongside Britney Spears, Simon Cowell and LA Reid. Speaking to Cosmopolitan spin-off Cosmo On Campus, she said: "I don't think I was ready when I started on The X Factor [in autumn 2012]. In an ideal situation I would have maybe waited a year or more. "I dived into work really quickly and maybe that wasn't the best idea at the time, but the place I am in today is so much better than I could have ever imagined, so I'm really glad."

Demi Lovato Rescued 'Heart Attack' And Brought It 'To Life'

While Demi Lovato's latest single "Heart Attack" sounds like it was tailor-made for the big-voiced singer, you might be surprised to learn that the "X Factor" mentor was hardly the first diva interested in the bouncy track. Jason Evigan, one half of the song's production team the Suspex, reveals once Lovato got her hands on it, she made it all her own.

"The first version had a dubstep break in it. We took that out for her ... Demi has magic to it where she has so much sass in her voice but yet so much power and all those really high notes at the end, she added that on the spot," he told MTV News about the lead single off her May 14 album, Demi. "[Some of those notes are] all freestyle and like that, I feel like, took the song up notches."The song was originally intended for singer Nikki Williams. She, along with Evigan, and his team (including co-producer Mitch Allan as well as songwriter Sean Douglas) dreamed up the track after she came into the studio talking about one of her crushes several years back.

"I pulled the title 'Heart Attack' from when [Nikki] actually likes someone, she has a heart attack," Evigan recalled. But when they brought it to the record label "they actually didn't want it. And we thought 'Wow that's surprising.' We thought it was going to be a hit."Next up, former "American Idol" contestant Pia Toscana was interested in the song, but her recording hardly surfaced. So the song sat around, until Demi came along.

Evigan explained, "A lot of people wanted the song. And then Demi came in to do another song called 'Two Pieces' and then we played her 'Heart Attack' and she freaked out about it. So she came in to record it and then she actually had a couple of lyric changes that were really good. She added that super high note at the end and she added some really cool things to it and she brought that song to life. Now it's taking off."While the track has gone through a number of changes over the last couple years, he says that as it stands now "it's funny because when you strip the song down, stand alone, I think it's a really classic song."

With so many female pop stars angling for the next big club track, Evigan says that Lovato is more focused on creating songs that will define her legacy, not just her current incarnation. "She's one who is so not about just trying to be what's on radio. She's a total original soul, she just wants to make what moves her," he said. "And if it moves her she loves it. She's all about if the song moves her. She's all about going harder, which is cool."For fans hankering to see why Demi had her hands painted black recently, the Chris Applebaum-directed video for "Heart Attack" will premiere on E!
