Pamela Anderson comes to Victoria to bid farewell to her Auntie Vie

When Pamela Anderson arrived at McCall’s funeral home on Tuesday afternoon, it wasn’t as a celebrity, but as a loving great-niece. The Ladysmith-born actor joined dozens of family members and friends for the funeral of Eoleia Sarah Zapshala, her late, great Auntie Vie, who Anderson says profoundly influenced her personally and professionally.

Zapshala, who died March 23 at age 88, became famous herself after inspiring Anderson to appear on Dancing With the Stars, as well as through Auntie Vie: A Life of Pickles and Pearls, her biographical cookbook penned with Cathy Converse.

After Anderson publicly acknowledged Auntie Vie as her biggest cheerleader, the flamboyant matriarch, who had danced since age three, was interviewed on shows from eTalk to Access Hollywood. Wearing sunglasses and a camelhair coat, Anderson kept a low profile after arriving without fanfare in a white Cadillac Escalade with a close friend to honour her famously feisty, fashion-conscious and hospitable great-aunt.

“Auntie Vie stole the show with charisma, style and warmth,” said CTV anchor Hudson Mack, one of six speakers at the service who recalled the glamorous, fun-loving character often dubbed Auntie Mame and known for her homemade perogies and pickles and love of oversized hats, pearls and rhinestones.

“She was fabulous and sparkled in every way, just a real go-getter,” recalled great-niece Jasmine Fallock, 21, adding it was great seeing Anderson as just another member of the family. “Everyone loves each other equally, regardless of careers.”

Fallock said her great-aunt, lying in a white casket crowned with pink and white roses, would have approved of the uplifting sendoff punctuated by tears, laughter and trips down memory lane. “It’s her last chance to be here,” Fallock said. “She didn’t want to miss out on her last party.”

Kris Fade Meets Pamela Anderson!

Pamela Anderson was in town for one night only but Virgin Radio's Kris Fade, who's an Ahlan! columnist too, managed to catch up with her to talk building hotels, Baywatch and saving lives

Hi Pamela, tell me what you’re up to right now.
I’m travelling a lot right now and working on a design firm back home in the US, sustainable design. I’ve just finished building my house, which is nice. It’s a simple, beautiful house with three bedrooms and white furniture and I love it. Some people want me to do a series again, so I’m having conversations about that.

Tell me about the hotel in Abu Dhabi that you were going to help build at one stage.
I was going to help build a hotel that was going to be hot pink neon with wood, a beach, a wave pool and all sorts of exciting things. But that was two years ago and it kind of just didn’t happen, but I hope it still does. It could be called Pamela or something crazy like that, my own hot pink hotel!
Could you be convinced to do a Baywatch movie?

No way, I could play my character CJ’s mom now. I think we should leave it as it is, I don’t like remakes. My body’s getting younger but my face is getting older!
Do you hate talking about Baywatch?

No, I love Baywatch it was the best job in the world! I’ve never seen an episode, but my kids have seen a couple. I’ve just seen clips and slow motion montages here and there and I just have to laugh. We took it so seriously though, we were saving lives!

Have you ever saved a life?
I have actually, I saved my brother’s life. We were in the Northwest territories (in Canada) where it was very cold and a waterfall was frozen over. He sunk through the ice in one of those big puffy jackets and I got to him and caught him in the nick of time, or he would have gone under the waterfall and I never would have seen him again. I remind him of that every once in a while!

How did you deal with becoming the world’s most famous women overnight after Baywatch?
It was crazy, all of a sudden I was travelling the world and people everywhere knew who I was, like in 150 countries. In China, Baywatch was the first American television show there. It was dubbed and I sound great in Chinese! That’s what I think was great about the show, you could watch it in any language as people weren’t really listening. You could watch it with the sound off, I think that’s what most people did!

Your kids are teenagers now, do they know you’re famous and does raising them get any easier as they get older?
No, it doesn’t. It just changes and they still break your heart! They know their dad’s a rock star (Tommy Lee from Motley Crue) and I rescue animals and do a lot of other stuff. I try to keep them out of the limelight but I take them with me a lot when I’m travelling, they were in Abu Dhabi with me the last time I was here.

Finally, have you got a favourite designer?
I always pick Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney.

Dreaming of a new vacation home? Check out these photos of Pamela Anderson's house in Malibu, Calif., which is up for sale. Depressingly, before she tried to sell the thing, Anderson tried to rent it out on a, like, normal-person rental site for $20,000 per week. She didn't get any takers, so now she's just trying to unload the five-bedroom, 2,700-square foot house wholesale — and it's a steal for $7.75 million. Between the private beach access, outdoor piano and "Native American wigwam" (because why not), this place has everything. No word on whether Anderson's perfume bottles, which are oddly given pride-of-place in the listing photos, are to be included.

Pamela Anderson Reveals All

She was loved by millions as lifeguard CJ Parker in the hit TV show Baywatch, but one-time hottie Pamela Anderson is refusing to don her famous red swimsuit again for the much anticipated reunion movie. Despite numerous reports that the blonde bombshell was set to reprise the role that made her famous, Pamela insists that we won’t see her running down the beach any time soon. She said she hasn’t signed up to the film, which comes 14 years after the series ended and will be released next year.

Pamela told Ahlan! she doesn’t want to get back on set with lifeguard boss David Hasselhoff because she feels too old! She told us: “No way, I am not doing the movie, I told them I wouldn’t do it! I’m too old.” (Erm, Pam the Hoff is 60, practically an OAP). “So an exclusive here, I haven’t signed up,” she added.

Pam’s refusal to sign up will come as a surprise to fans as she’s admitted to being in the best shape of her life thanks to recent stints on the UK’s Dancing on Ice and US Dancing with the Stars. She insisted: “My body is getting younger, but my face is getting older.”

Pamela Anderson goes clubbing in Dubai

She may not have squeezed her fabulous body into that iconic red one-piece swimsuit, but former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson early Wednesday morning proved she’s still got it. She swooped into Dubai’s new nightclub VIP Room at 1am swathed in a demure floral Vivienne Westwood (no heaving bosom or running across sandy stretches involved) with a mission to breathe glamour and star power into a room filled with merry clubbers.

“It’s nice to come back after five years and it’s good to see everybody again. I always have ulterior motives,” said Anderson told tabloid! in her squeaky-yet-sexy voice. The last time she was in the UAE, she channelled her star power in a Make A Wish Foundation charity auction dinner in Abu Dhabi to help critically-ill children.

“By ulterior motives, I mean for positive things,” she added with a laugh and a wink that would melt any cynic out there. The star of America’s pervasive cultural export Baywatch, who played the buxom lifeguard CJ Parker, turned on an entire generation in the 1990s. But the sex symbol-turned-animal rights activist now has set her eyes on graver subjects.

“Every time I travel, I use it for animal rights. There are specific things in the Middle East I want to talk about,” said Anderson, who had previously lobbied for the freedom of Dubai’s Sammy The Shark held captive in a local aquarium.

“It’s always been on my mind. Soon, I will be heading to the Cannes to host a party for Bridget Bardot to raise some money for her animal rights at the Cannes Film Festival,” said Anderson. When asked whether her UAE plans revolved around working on building that ambitious eco-friendly hotel in Abu Dhabi, she told us that the project has been put on hold. During her last visit, Anderson had announced plans to build an environmentally-friendly resort.

“We were planning on it but it fell apart due to the recession in America and here. It just didn’t happen, I would love to do that. I am really sad that it didn’t happen and I really want to do it,” said Anderson.
The 45-year-old pin-up also slammed reports that she will hit the beach one last time in a Baywatch movie spin-off. In recent weeks, reports have been swirling that Anderson will wear that red suit again.
“No, I have never heard of it. Nobody has ever called me. This is funny, but I don’t want to do it. I don’t like to remake things. The television show was so sweet, I had rather not make a spoof of it,” said Anderson. She recalls her stint as lifeguard CJ Parker as “wholesome and sweet”.

“I hope they still perceive me as that Baywatch star. I like that image because it was a great time in my life … I am proud of that time. Some things may have gone out of control – my marriage etc. But now I am back to being healthy in a wholesome, assembled world,” said Anderson. Oozing confidence in a =sweet dress cinched at her tiny waist, her top tip to women out there is to be comfortable in their own skin. It was clear that she lives by that philosophy as she glided into the VIP Room at the JW Marriott Dubai and let her hair down to hits such as Sexy And I Know It. But it’s not all fun. Her biggest fear about being a celebrity?

“That I have to do club appearances for the rest of my life.” Then: “I am kidding,” she added with that loud laughter. “Seriously, I have always loved VIP Room. It’s a great place and I am supporting my friend Jean Roch [VIP Room founder],” said Anderson, who partied late into the night.
