As summer approaches and we eagerly anticipate spending more time outdoors, one inevitable concern arises: bugs! Mosquitoes, ticks, and other pesky insects can put a damper on our outdoor adventures. While traditional bug repellents may effectively ward off these nuisances, they often contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to both our health and the environment. Thankfully, there's a safer and more sustainable alternative: all-natural and organic bug repellents. Let's explore the myriad benefits of choosing these eco-friendly solutions.

Safety First: One of the primary advantages of all-natural bug repellents is their safety profile. Traditional repellents often contain DEET, a potent chemical that can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and even neurological damage with prolonged exposure. In contrast, natural repellents utilize ingredients like essential oils (such as citronella, lemongrass, and eucalyptus) and plant extracts, which are gentle on the skin and pose minimal risk to human health.

Environmental Friendliness: The chemicals found in conventional bug repellents not only pose risks to our health but also have adverse effects on the environment. When these products are sprayed outdoors, the chemicals can contaminate soil, water sources, and harm non-target organisms like bees and other beneficial insects. Organic bug repellents, on the other hand, rely on biodegradable ingredients that break down naturally without leaving behind harmful residues, making them a more sustainable choice for our planet.

Effective Protection: Contrary to popular belief, natural bug repellents can be just as effective as their chemical counterparts. Essential oils like citronella and eucalyptus have been used for centuries to repel insects, and numerous studies have confirmed their efficacy in keeping bugs at bay. Additionally, many natural repellents are formulated with a blend of ingredients that work synergistically to provide long-lasting protection against a wide range of pests.

Gentle on Sensitive Skin: For individuals with sensitive skin or allergies, conventional bug repellents can be particularly problematic. The harsh chemicals found in these products can cause irritation, redness, and discomfort, especially when applied to delicate areas like the face and neck. Organic bug repellents, on the other hand, are formulated with gentle, skin-friendly ingredients that are less likely to cause adverse reactions, making them suitable for the whole family, including children and those with sensitive skin conditions.

Versatility and Customization: One of the lesser-known benefits of natural bug repellents is their versatility and ability to be customized to suit individual preferences. With a variety of essential oils and plant extracts to choose from, you can create your own personalized bug repellent blend tailored to your scent preferences and specific insect-repelling needs. Whether you prefer a citrusy aroma or a floral fragrance, there's a natural repellent recipe out there to suit every taste.

The benefits of all-natural and organic bug repellents are undeniable. From their safety and environmental friendliness to their effectiveness and versatility, these eco-friendly alternatives offer a compelling solution to the age-old problem of insect bites. By choosing natural bug repellents, we can protect ourselves, our loved ones, and the planet from harm, all while enjoying the great outdoors to the fullest. So, next time you head outside, consider reaching for a bottle of Love Myself Organics “No Biting” bug repellent and embrace the outdoors!

Introduction: In a world brimming with synthetic scents, there's a timeless allure to the purity and authenticity of nature's fragrances. Enter the realm of all-natural organic perfumes – an olfactory journey that not only captivates the senses but also honors the environment and your well-being. In this blog post, we delve into the enchanting world of natural perfumery, exploring its origins, benefits, and the top picks to elevate your scent game sustainably.

Origins of Natural Perfumery: The art of natural perfumery dates back centuries, rooted in ancient civilizations' practices of extracting fragrances from botanicals like flowers, herbs, spices, and resins. Unlike conventional perfumes laden with synthetic chemicals, natural perfumery embraces pure, unadulterated ingredients sourced directly from nature. This traditional approach not only preserves the integrity of the fragrance but also connects us to the earth's bountiful offerings in a harmonious way.

Benefits of All-Natural Organic Perfumes:

Healthier Choice: Synthetic fragrances often contain harmful chemicals linked to allergies, respiratory issues, and even hormonal disruptions. All-natural organic perfumes, on the other hand, eschew these toxins, making them safer for your skin and overall well-being.

Environmental Sustainability: By opting for organic perfumes, you support eco-friendly practices that prioritize renewable resources, ethical sourcing, and minimal environmental impact. It's a small yet significant step towards a greener future.

Unique Scents: Natural perfumery celebrates the complexity and diversity of botanical essences, offering a rich tapestry of scents that are distinctive, nuanced, and truly one-of-a-kind. Each perfume tells a story, evoking memories, emotions, and connections to nature.

Mind-Body Connection: The therapeutic properties of natural ingredients extend beyond their aromatic appeal, offering holistic benefits for both the body and mind. From calming lavender to uplifting citrus, these fragrances can uplift your mood, ease stress, and enhance your overall sense of well-being.

Conclusion: In a world where synthetic fragrances dominate the market, all-natural organic perfumes offer a refreshing alternative that celebrates the beauty, purity, and vitality of nature. By choosing these eco-conscious scents, you not only treat yourself to a sensory delight but also contribute to a more sustainable and ethical fragrance industry. So, why not embark on a fragrant journey that nourishes your body, mind, and soul, one spritz at a time? Embrace nature's essence and let your true scent shine through.

Introduction: In a world where the quest for healthier living and environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly prominent, the choices we make in personal care products matter more than ever. One such product that has undergone a transformation in recent years is the humble deodorant. With concerns about the potential harmful effects of certain chemicals found in traditional deodorants, many consumers are turning to organic and natural alternatives, and spray deodorants are at the forefront of this movement.

Understanding Organic and Natural Spray Deodorants: Organic and natural spray deodorants are formulations crafted from plant-based ingredients, free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, aluminum, and other potentially harmful chemicals commonly found in conventional deodorants. These products harness the power of nature to combat body odor, offering a refreshing alternative that is gentle on both the skin and the environment.

Benefits of Organic and Natural Spray Deodorants:

Environmentally Friendly: By opting for organic and natural spray deodorants, you're making a choice that's not only beneficial for your body but also for the planet. These products are often packaged in eco-friendly containers, and their biodegradable formulas minimize the environmental impact compared to their synthetic counterparts.

Versatility: Organic and natural spray deodorants come in a variety of delightful scents derived from pure essential oils, offering an aromatic experience that uplifts the senses without the use of synthetic fragrances.

Sweating is your body's natural cooling mechanism. As the Texas A&M University Health Science Center explains, sweating is how the body regulates temperature. Your sweat leaves your skin through your pores and evaporates on the outside, which helps to cool you down. One of the biggest benefits of natural deodorant is that it helps to eliminate unwanted odor while still allowing your body to sweat and cool you.

2. It Stops Odor Naturally

It's not sweat that causes body odor, but rather sweat combined with the bacteria that already exists on your skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, your body has two types of sweat glands: eccrine glands, which secrete fluid onto the surface of your skin, and apocrine glands, which develop in areas with lots of hair follicles, such as your armpits. The fluid secreted by the apocrine glands is odorless until it mixes with the bacteria on your skin.

So, how does natural deodorant work? Instead of stopping your skin from sweating, it helps to neutralize the odor with naturally derived botanicals. Many natural botanicals, such as tea tree oil, also have antibacterial properties, according to a review in the journal Clinical Microbiology Reviews. These ingredients work to conceal bad odors—and may help minimize the bacteria on your skin, which is what causes the odor in the first place.

3. You'll Feel Confident in Your Safety

Why does it matter that ingredients are naturally derived? Choosing a natural deodorant that is made with odor-neutralizing botanicals and no artificial fragrances or preservatives can help you avoid artificial substances and feel more confident in the safety of your skin care products.

If you've removed hair from your armpits by shaving or other methods, then you know exactly how sensitive your skin can be in that area and how irritated it can get. But plant-based ingredients in natural deodorants, such as palm kernel oil and castor wax, can provide a smooth, skin-conditioning feel.

Natural deodorants might also help you avoid other skin irritations, such as rashes and allergic reactions. A study published in Contact Dermatitis concluded that deodorants were the primary cause of fragrance-based allergic skin rashes. Looking closely at ingredient labels can help you determine what substances you want to avoid in your products.

If you're concerned about protecting the environment, you'll enjoy another one of the benefits of natural deodorant. Choosing a deodorant made with natural, sustainable, and responsible ingredients helps ensure that you get the protection you need while keeping the environment in mind.

Making the switch from a commercial brand deodorant to an all-natural deodorant sounds like a simple process, right? For some it is that simple, but for others, this change is followed by more potent body odor, excessive sweating and/or an itchy red rash and bumps. You may be wondering; why do these things happen when your intent is to do something good for your body? Let’s discuss…

Say you’ve been using an aluminum filled antiperspirant for years, maybe even decades. The aluminum and other chemicals have been absorbed into your blood stream and lymph nodes the entire time. Furthermore, the commercial antiperspirants are designed to make you not sweat. They actually blocks the glands in your armpit from producing what they are made to produce….sweat!

So, one day you decide to make the switch to an aluminum free deodorant. Great choice J Your body starts ridding itself of the chemicals that have been absorbed for years and this process can actually change the odor, potency of your body odor and the amount of sweat you’re expelling. To make matters worse, for some people, a red itchy rash can develop as your body is pushing out the years of toxins that have been built up. Not fun at all!

This may leave you wondering; am I condemned to using commercial brand, aluminum filled, chemical packed antiperspirants forever? The answer is; most likely no. With the backlog of chemicals and toxins your body may just need an armpit detox before making the switch to an all-natural deodorant. Here are a few of our suggestions:

-Use a charcoal soap which is known to keep the stink away! In addition, when you’re getting out of the shower dry off your armpits completely. Bacteria loves damp places.

-Mix two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar with distilled water in a spray bottle. Apply to your armpits 30 minutes (if possible) before applying your deodorant. This will help alkaline your PH balance.

-Take a daily probiotic, and/or use a probiotic spray on your underarms.

-Try a bentonite clay mask.

-As cheesy as it sounds, drink tons of water. Flush out those toxins!

You should plan to do a detox for at least a week before making the official switch. It may be a bit of a process for you and your body, but in the long run, you’ll be thrilled you made this change!

When most people think of living a gluten free lifestyle, they think eliminating bread, pasta and my personal favorite; pizza. However, if you’re gluten sensitive (or just choose to stay away from it) several beauty and body products contain gluten. Since Love Myself Organics deodorants and perfume are gluten free and we proudly display it on our packaging, people often ask me, “Is there usually gluten in my body products?” Have you ever seen ingredients such as hydrolysed vegetable protein or triticum aestivum? These are just a couple of the ingredients that are found in lotions, soaps, shampoos and even deodorants that we apply every day that do in fact contain gluten.

If you’re avoiding food based gluten, should you also avoid product based gluten? Well, if you’re a believer that what goes on your body is as important as what goes in to it, then the answer would be an astounding YES! Skin conditions and even asthma have been linked to gluten in products for those who are sensitive. In cases of accidental ingestion, the health concerns grow even more.

This is a good reminder to all of us to read labels! Take the extra couple of minutes to be sure we are putting all natural, and quality ingredients in to and on to our bodies. Check out our deodorants https://goo.gl/Hm0008 and see if they could be a gluten free fit for you!

It’s safe to say that the majority of people wear deodorant on a daily basis. If you picture a few swipes under the arm per person each day, that’s a lot of deodorant being used! The underarm is so close to the breasts, that some don’t realize that the ingredients in our deodorant that we apply daily to our pits is also absorbed by our breast tissue. As 2016’s Breast Cancer Awareness month is now upon us, we felt compelled to raise awareness with some of the harmful ingredients found in your everyday antiperspirants and deodorants. Many ingredients that have been linked to breast cancer.

-Parabens have been a hot topic for a few years now and for good reason! They’re in most major cosmetics and body products and in some studies have been shown to mimic the activity of hormones in estrogen in women’s cells. Actual parabens have been found present in breast cancer. It’s important to stay away from the methyl, ethyl, propyl etc ingredients, or simply look for “paraben free” on the packaging.

-Tricloscan has been linked to a weakened immune system, abnormal endocrine system/thyroid hormone signaling, uncontrolled cell growth and cancer, and yet it’s found in several cosmetics, soaps, toothpastes, body products, clean supplies, and you guessed it; deodorant. Steer clear!

-Aluminum (also known as Aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly) may be the most talked about ingredient linked to breast cancer over the last several years. This is because just about every anti-prespirant brand on the market contains insane levels of this reportedly hazardous ingredient. Aluminum essentially blocks sweat glands from producing perspiration. Your body can absorb the aluminum compounds and it can promote the growth of breast cancer tissues.

There are other ingredients not covered here to be on the lookout for such as Silica, Steareth, and synthetic fragrance. Love Myself Organics believe that knowledge is power. When you know better, you do better. We are proud to offer pure and natural ingredients in our body products that nourish your body, instead of harm them.

How will you ever come back from this? Then, like peeling off a bandaid (takes time and is a little painful) the big picture presents itself and you realize that horrible thing that you went through was actually the best thing that ever could have happened to you?

We’ve recently heard more and more stories like this, and we couldn’t help but see the common theme in the equation (horrible situation+time=best possible outcome.) It seems that *trying* to control every situation in life is not only unsustainable, but it’s also not in our best interest. Even when we think we know what should happen in our lives, or what we want to happen, time and experience has reminded us that sometimes the universe simply knows better.

The path to building the Love Myself Organics company has been very universe driven. We didn’t seek out this industry from a business stand point. Initially, we were driven by the simple mission that we wanted to use and wear truly natural and organic body products. Our deodorants seemed to work better than the others and our perfume smells intoxicating, and next thing you know a new organic body product line was created, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it, and sharing this journey with you!

The average human body has about 22 square feet of skin, weighing in at about 8 pounds. To put this into perspective – a standard doorway is 21 square feet - if you were to peal off and spread out the average adult’s skin, it would fill all of that space.

Scattered across this vast canvass and hiding in all of the crevasses of your skin are trillions of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and mites. Before you run off to take a shower and drench yourself in soap, know this, your skin’s bacteria is a good thing. There is a ton of awesome research available about our skin biome that tells us that all the creepy crawlies living on our skin, who number in the billion per centimeter of skin, are supposed to be there and they do good things.

Skin is your largest organ, and it protects your internal organs from outside elements like extreme temperatures, the sun's ultraviolet rays and dangerous chemicals. This shield also helps you retain water, prevent infections and produce essential proteins and vitamins. To do all of these important jobs you need a lot of skin and it needs to be healthy with proper microbes.

All of these skin microbes are working to our advantage all the time. They’re crawling, reproducing, digesting, and secreting various fluids all over the surface of our bodies. It’s a beautiful thing that they’re doing all of this to give us healthy skin. Yet, most of us have been conditioned to use soap all the time. To scrub with rough exfoliating sponges in order to be sure that we remove anything lingering on our skin. The sad part is, that when we do this, we are removing too much of our skin biome – our healthy skin bacteria! It’s easy to shutter and say GROSS at the thought that we really shouldn’t be washing these microbes away. We need them to be healthy and vibrant because skin bacteria help determine our skin’s immune response, vulnerability to allergies, wound healing, and susceptibility to certain skin diseases, to name just a few things they do for us.

I’m not suggesting that you stop using soap. Here are some suggestions on how you can help protect your body’s natural healthy biome and promote your skin to be it’s healthiest, while also living in a modern world of scary gross things.

Avoid antibacterial soaps and lotions. Triclosan, the principle antibiotic found in antibacterial soaps, has received lots of negative press, even in the mainstream. It crosses the placentaand induces antibiotic resistance. But make sure you’re not using it. Check your labels for anything resembling “anti-bacterial.” Use natural soaps that have ingredients you can pronounce. My favorite is Dr. Bronner’s Magical Soaps.

Wash your hands with soap, but don’t be so liberal with other parts of the body unless they really need it. Handling raw chicken? Yeah, wash up. Flu going around? Wash up. Regular soap isn’t chemically antibacterial, so using it won’t promote antibiotic resistanceor wage chemical warfare on the good guys, but it does work by destroying the “bad” stuff so you’ll be safe.

Avoid antiperspirants. Using them reduces microbial diversity of the armpit, and they just make you smell worse in the long run. Sweating is a natural physiological process. It is not safe or healthy to block sweating by literally clogging your sweat pores with aluminum. Scientists have dubbed armpits the “rain forests” of the skin biome. They’re a powerful source of microbial diversity. Ever wonder why our armpits sweat so much and get stinky. It’s because they are special and important. Don’t kill off your armpit’s rainforest with chemicals. Replenish them with healthy, natural and organic ingredients like what’s in Love Myself Organics deodorant.

4. Get comfortable with the idea of “bacteria” on your skin. This can be a tricky one. We’ve all seen those microscope images of what bacteria looks like and it just seems gross that they’re living on our skin. Embrace the beauty of these ugly little critters and allow them to do their job. Treat them with gentle soap that’s chemical free and don’t worry about scrubbing too hard. When you use lotions, use all natural brands with ingredients you can trust.

Love the skin you’re in…and love all the bacteria that makes it so special!

A really long time ago I made the decision to switch to organic living. First I started with removing toxic foods from my home and my entire family and I stopped consuming these foods all together. I’ve spent over a decade reading, researching and implementing a clean eating diet for all of us. Naturally, the next step was to remove toxic chemicals from other parts of our lives as well. I had already cleaned out my pantry and fridge, the next step was to free my household cleaning items of toxic chemicals. After about a year of trying many pure & natural brands of household cleaners and then of course making my own cleaning supplies, I was able to check that one off the list too. The next ‘project’ was to look into the personal care items and the first place I looked was at our deodorant. I had been using all-natural brands but I was spending a fortune trying to find a brand that actually worked. Some of the popular brands, like Tom’s, which didn’t work for me or my husband, was also a down right shame because at least 5 of their “natural” ingredients were in fact toxic.

My oldest son, who is a preteen, (and my husband) enjoyed using Old Spice because it worked great and smelled very manly. This highly toxic antiperspirant immediately went in the trash. I researched each one of the ingredients typically found in antiperspirants and was shocked at how unregulated deodorant was and how awfully toxic it was. Commercial deodorant, like Old Spice, which is chemically laden, is an 18 billion dollar industry. That’s a lot of crap people are putting on their skin not even knowing what it’s doing to their body.

The main ingredient in antiperspirants that is appreciated because it prevents armpits from sweating is aluminum. This is some dangerous stuff. There have been many studies done linking this chemical to all sorts of diseases and possibly cancer. Let’s take a moment to explore what happens in your body when you apply your commercial deodorant.

An antiperspirant, which is classified as a drug by the FDA, causes proteins within your body to precipitate and mechanically block the sweat ducts. The metal salts found in antiperspirants alter the structures in the ducts. These ducts then close and form a plug so that sweat will not come out. As you can see, many problems can arise from using synthetic chemicals to block the body’s natural and very important function of secreting sweat. Just to give you a sense of how much aluminum is used in typical products – the FDA requires that all anti-perspirants decrease the average person’s sweat by 20 percent – so manufacturers usually use anywhere between a 10-25 percent concentration of aluminum in products. That is just crazy, isn’t it? The science is out and it has revealed that aluminum is toxic to our bodies.

So this is the main ingredient (although there are many others) that caused me to never use an antiperspirant again…and to spread the word! (FYI – Some of the most toxic brands according to the Environmental Working Group include English Leather, Mitchum, Suave, Secret, Gillette, Right Guard, Soft & Dry, Tussy)

Annoyed at what was currently on the market as an alternative, I got busy in the kitchen creating my own truly natural organic deodorant. It was pretty easy to make my own concoction using coconut oil and baking soda, but my pre-teen son and husband did not like the oily and unstable consistency (coconut oil melts at 76 degrees so when you apply it to your skin, it melts immediately). My entrepreneur husband encouraged me to come up with a deodorant mixture that stayed true to our goal – be 100% natural and organic – but have the consistency of commercial deodorant and could be applied with a stick…rather than using our fingers and rubbing it on.

After quite a long time experimenting in the kitchen, consulting a few chemists and trying many different organic natural ingredients we finally created our baby deodorant ~ Love Myself Organics.

We are so happy to be able to share this product with you and we hope that this will be the first step for you too of removing toxins from your home, your body and our beautiful planet! So throw away your toxic deodorant and enjoy our deodorant that actually works!

With love,

Love Myself Organics!
