wills no doubt, for example, to greet family members and guests to share a special day. It will probably reflect his own wedding day, and possibly to the interventions that were made on both long day. Father of the bride speeches, of course, makes reference to her mother, and possibly all the organizations that went to the wedding, he may apply to work as women, or specifically as something in which women Excel. He may jokingly refer to all those lists that are part of the wedding extravaganza.

Bride’s Speeches, on the other hand need to express their happiness on their wedding day. She certainly thanks everyone who helped her prepare in any way. It can make a special point of referring to the love of life and devotion to her parents gave her. We do not often say, “We love you” out loud, but the bride speech, give an ideal opportunity to express my gratitude for all that care. Parents are likely to treasure such comments for many years. After all they are doing all those nights of teething and teenage angst worthwhile.

Bride speech can result in a toast to the bride to the groom. Father of the bride speech is traditionally end with a toast to the happy couple. It can, of course, just ask those present to raise their glasses in such a toast. This, however, will take the easy way. Father of the Bride speech is much better if it ends with prayer, blessing or say that it is particularly important for the happy couple.

Style Swoon: A Rainbow Bright Necklace

One of the most vital things that you need to do as your wedding day nears is choosing the right wedding dress. The task can be a fabulous adventure or an experience that you would want to forget. There are many different kinds of wedding gowns are available, and you can even personalize yours. But the most critical thing to remember is that, just like your wedding shoes, your gown needs to fit you properly.

1. Take measurements of your bust at the widest part of the back, straight across the top of your breasts. Do not measure under the bust line.

In the same way, avoid using your bra or cup size to determine your bust size.Keep in mind that the type of your bra is considered a factor that can make a difference. Stand straight and take measurements of your waist with your tummy relaxed. Avoid holding your tummy in; it would create an overly tight measurement that would result to an uncomfortably tight gown. Once the tape measure encircles your waist, slip a finger’s width under the tape.

If you want an empire-waist style gown or a wedding dress that is not fitted at the waist, then your waist measurement would not be critical in determining a size. Measure your hips at the largest part, usually around 8 inches down your natural waistline. To precisely measure the length of your gown, don your wedding shoes first. Doing so would provide you a clearer view on how long should the gown be.

Most designers recommend ordering extra length dresses if you are 5 feet, 8 inches or more, or if you have high-heeled shoes. Most often, extra length involves an additional 5 inches of fabric added to the dress. It is better to have a dress that is too long rather than getting one that is too short. If you want to buy beautiful bridal shoes to go with your gown, get in touch with Dyeable Shoes.

Luxury hotel brand’s bridal experts dish on best wedding trends

Fairmont is known worldwide as a place of special occasions, from the copper-roofed Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, to royal-favorite The Savoy in London, to Toronto’s Grand Dame Fairmont Royal York. Many of Fairmont’s storied properties have hosted “first dances” for close to a century, and all are on the front lines when it comes to knowing what modern brides want. Here are a few trends Fairmont wedding experts predict will be big in 2012.

Every Wedding is a Destination Wedding – While destination weddings used to conjure images of white sand beaches and swaying palm trees, modern couples getting married close to home may still have friends and family flying in from all over the world. Many of Fairmont’s city center properties have seen more weddings book 2- and 3-night room blocks along with Sunday brunches to make sure out-of-towners have a vacation too.

Gift bags have also stepped up to include more than water and an itinerary – considerate couples book neighborhood walking tours for guests and offer hand-picked restaurant recommendations and tips for local attractions.

“Couples want to make sure they’re taking care of guests who spend a considerable amount of time and money to be there for them on their big day,” said Wayne Harth, Director of Catering at Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park. “We’ve had brides arrange guided architectural tours and trolley cars to take guests around Chicago while the bridal party prepares for the evening festivities.”

Close-knit, But Not On a Shoestring – Intimate weddings give couples more time to spend with the people they care about most, and more money to spend on luxuries, both big and small. A growing number of couples are choosing to limit their guest list to 100 or less, but their nuptials still boast the budget of a much larger wedding.

“Our brides are having smaller weddings, but spending more per person, whether it’s on elegant menus or setting up elaborate play areas for kids. We had one couple set-up a fully supervised adjacent room with Wii games, arcade machines, sweet table and disco,” said Bruce Russell, London Wedding Planner for Weddings at The Savoy by Bruce Russell.

“Another thing we’ve done to upgrade smaller weddings is to offer a la carte reception menus featuring six appetizers, six entrees and five desserts – all selected by guests on the day of the wedding. It’s a convenience and a luxury that invitees really appreciate.”

Keep People Dancing with Passed Small Bites – There’s no better way to make a DJ lonely than by rolling out limited food stations that immediately build up long lines – keeping people away from the music and quickly deflating a lively atmosphere. Instead of killing the party on the dance floor, forgo food stations for passed small bites that will keep guests dancing all night long.

“Passing tapas and desserts on the dance floor has become extremely popular and is a great way to keep the party going,” said Tracey Gavin, Senior Catering Sales Manager at The Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. “As an added perk, you can get creative with the food you present, whether it’s mini ice cream cones or cheeseburger sliders. It’s definitely a memorable touch.”

Groom’s Role Grows – While many catering managers used to see grooms only twice – at the first meeting and on their wedding day – many men are becoming more involved in the planning process, particularly when it comes to menus and desserts. Formerly a regional staple in the Southeastern U.S., the groom’s cake has slowly been inching its way north and even as far as the UK and Europe, and taking different forms as it migrates.

Whether it’s part of a “cake-scape” of different designs and flavors, a surprise gift from the bride featuring a favorite sports team, or just the classic chocolate treat of the groom’s choice, many couples are forgoing the traditional one size-fits-all confection.

“For the most part, brides still run the show, but we’ve seen a growing level of involvement from men in every aspect of the wedding,” said Ashley Pigott, Conference Services & Catering Manager for The Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. “As grooms get more and more involved with picking dinner menus, music, and more, desserts have become a prime opportunity for them to show off their own style and preferences.”

Spicing up the Dessert Table – Having cupcakes instead of a wedding cake has been fashionable for years now, but some couples are getting even more creative with their dessert table by bringing out their inner child. Tiered donut cakes, old fashioned candy bars and huge spreads of cookies have taken over, giving guests an assortment of sweet treats to choose from.

“Many couples want a range of tastes and colors on their dessert table and are branching out beyond the traditional tiered wedding cakes and perfectly decorated cupcakes,” said Jenny Hytonen, Wedding Manager from The Fairmont Palliser. “One wedding we did had a whimsical candy bar filled with lollipops, gumdrops, licorice, taffy and more, and guests went wild for it.”

Decorating from Above – A stunning centerpiece may look great in photos, but many times they end up obscuring views and getting in the way of conversation. So, instead of arranging votives and flowers on tables, some couples are hanging their centerpieces from the ceilings – creating a dramatic effect that finally lets guests sitting across from each other see eye-to-eye.

“We had one bride with an Alice in Wonderland theme for her reception who wanted magical décor for her guests, so we hung creative Mad-Hatter style top hats and candles from our Hacienda Trellis – it created a stunning effect.” said Amanda Wingert, Senior Catering Manager at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. “The hanging decorations have definitely become a popular feature and we’ve started to see a range of variations on the standard lantern and floral centerpieces.”

You're at a wedding, the vows have been made, rings exchanged and kiss sealed when the celebrant makes the announcement to the standing party: "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the loving couple Mr and Mrs Benjamin Jones."

Depending on your point of view, those last five words can sound romantically unifying or they can rankle. What happened to the bride's identity?

While there are no official records to verify if more brides are taking their husband's surnames than, say, 20 years ago, evidence suggests that more are returning to that tradition. An Australian Bride to Be magazine survey from 2010 found that 80 per cent of women planned to change their name.

Vice President of Australian Marriage Celebrants Ann Dally estimates it happens in 60-70 per cent of the weddings she presides over but says the figure would be higher if she didn't take into account Chinese brides who "rarely or almost never change their surname".

There is no universal rule in the name game. Recently in Japan, five people brought a lawsuit against the government claiming that the civil law forcing them to take their husband's name after marriage violates their constitutional rights.

Japan is the only G8 nation that requires married couples to have the same family name, and according to custom it is usually the man's. And in the Canadian province of Quebec, women are not permitted to adopt their husband's name at marriage, not even if they apply for an official name change.

The US is seeing a swing back to tradition. A Harvard study saw the number of college-educated women in their 30s who kept their name dropping from 23 per cent in 1990 before declining to 18 per cent on the 2000s.

"One way is to read the trend towards not taking your husband's name as a blip in itself - part of a feminist moment," says Dr Zora Simic, Lecturer in Women's and Gender Studies at the University of New South Wales.

"And now we're allegedly post-feminist, at least in the sense that those sorts of gestures such as keeping your name, not shaving your legs - are not considered as necessary or meaningful as a political slash personal statement."

"Personally for me, it's very important to go through life with my own name. I know it's my father's surname, but I was born with it and it's the most obvious marker of my identity," says Dr Simic.

"Historically and politically, I've also got a huge issue with the institution of marriage itself, and it seems to me that the practice of taking his name is one of its most blatantly sexist features. That said, I am reluctant to judge other women's decision to do so."

Psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg has a different perspective. "I don't agree with the feminist view that it is an agreement to become a man's property; I am rather big on ritual and tradition, so taking a bloke's name is a worthy custom and a choice to honour one's partner," he says.

Recent newlywed, Naomi Lynn had no hesitation in changing her name. "Marriage to me is about starting your own identity together by merging family traditions and your own personal values," says Lynn, a marketing executive.

"It's a daily reminder of the commitment to each other and pride that comes with a new chapter of your life." According to the 2010 Bride To Be survey, most brides take the husband's surname because they feel it makes them more of a 'family unit'. And if the name isn't changed at marriage it comes under consideration again if children come along.

This is the reason Rachelle McDermott, a digital executive producer and mother of three changed her name. "I left it for ages but always knew I would change it so that I could be in the same "gang" as the kids, I always felt a little left out."

While some argue that a mother having a different surname to her children could be a bureaucratic and social nightmare, Belinda Norman, a university librarian and mother of two hasn't had any problems. "There has never been any kind of hassle with forms or anything - it is quite widely accepted that a mum and her kids can have different names," she says.

Of course, there are other options, some choose to double-barrel and some grooms take the bride's name, a trend Dally is noticing, "I have had three grooms take on the brides names and this has all been in the last 6 months," she says. It's a contentious issue, the choice about identity is very personal and as such, if views differ, feathers can be ruffled.

Internet forums can erupt into slanging matches - posters call wives 'bossy' if the husband chooses to take her surname while others are frightened their child will be labeled a 'bastard' if he or she has a different surname to their father.

What we do have, thanks to feminists in the 1970s, and unlike the Japanese plaintiffs, is the freedom to choose. Today, for many brides, it seems the decision to change your name is more one of convenience, whatever works. Zoe, a US-based art director for a cosmetic company recently married into a family with a name that she loves - Sabbath.

"The only reason I changed my surname was because his was better than mine - he often quizzes me and asks me if his name had been something like 'Wiener' would I have changed it and I answer him quite plainly - 'No', " she says.

Bridal Winter Collection 2011-2012
