Country Music Concert at the LP Memorial Library

The Friends of the Lake Placid Memorial Library invite you to another of our outstanding free concerts. This concert is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The program will feature fine Classic Country Music performed by Barney and Nancy Miesse of Lake Placid. Barney and Nancy have been making music together many years under their stage name of "BARNEY and NANCY" and have played to many local audiences including many of the area churches. Most recently, they played a series of concerts at the Henscratch Winery. They have also been entertainers at the Orange Blossom Opry which is located in Weirsdale, Florida next to the huge Villages community.(For background on the Orange Blossom Opry, go to www.OBOpry.com) Nancy sings and plays the Autoharp while Barney also sings and is featured on the Guitar. Ron Holmes will also be joining the duo for this performance playing the Bass Guitar. Barney and Nancy also frequently add music from the 50's and 60's to their presentation. This small group should be yet another fine show at the Lake Placid Memorial Library presented by the Friends of the Lake Placid Memorial Library. They join a list of wonderful performers that have been guests of the Friends in this continuing set of shows called, "Cultural Series for All Ages."

Hank Mattson's Performance

The Friends of the Lake Placid Memorial Library invite the public to a free presentation at the Lake Placid Library on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. by Hank Mattson, "The Cracker Cowboy Poet". Hank is a resident of Lake Placid who is well known from Florida to Utah using his own words and those of turn-of-the-century cow punchers to chronicle and preserve the life and times of the many Florida Folks who for over 400 years have been working cattle. Hank charms his audiences with his poems and tales and complements his presentation with costume and props. He is a member of the Florida Cattlemen's Association, the Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame Society and the Friends of Florida Folk. He was named the winner of the 2007 Laura Rider Award for Florida Folk Poetry. He invites you to check out his website at www.crackercowboypoet.com. Steel Guitar Concert

The Friends of the Lake Placid Memorial Library are presenting a free concert at the Library located at 201 W Interlake Boulevard in Lake Placid on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. The program features "Steelin" Jim and His Friends. Jim Lipscomb, a noted musician in the area, will be performing on the steel guitar. There will be music for all age groups. Keep track of daily reading log. Names of the participant readers appear in a paper fish chain that will be displayed at the library throughout the summer.

In addition to the summer programs, the Lake Placid Memorial library continues to introduce children to the love of reading with free Storytime for 3 to 5-year old children every Thursday at 10:00 am. Lapsits for infants and toddlers through three years of age will take place the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30 am.

Landscape Design Classes

Environmental Horticulturist Dee Dee Jacobson is returning to the Lake Placid Memorial Library to offer landscape design seminars. The two-hour Saturday classes will include practical tips and information to make your landscape a source of enjoyment and satisfaction.
