A Message to LSA Seniors

Hello Seniors!

As you leave the University of Michigan campus this spring, we encourage you to think about the academic and personal growth you have experienced during your time here. We now have the opportunity to help another LSA student have such transformational experiences as we have had. To provide this opportunity for seniors to give back to the Michigan community and for a LSA student to receive financial aid, I am excited to announce the creation of the LSA Class Gift. This is the first time the largest College within the University of Michigan, the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, will be uniting to leave a lasting impression on the University of Michigan campus. Through the creation of the LSA Class Gift Scholarship, the Class of 2012 will be able to fund a needs-based scholarship for one LSA student.

During our time here, many of us experienced financial hardships and utilized financial aid, scholarships, work-study, and other means of income to pay for our tuition. As we end our undergraduate education I challenge each of you to give to the LSA Class Gift so that another LSA student may have. By contributing to the LSA Class Gift, you will be helping fund a scholarship for one LSA student for the 2012-2013 academic year. This scholarship will ease the financial burden of attending the University of Michigan so that the recipient may continue to pursue their academic and extracurricular studies to both improve themselves and our campus. The LSA student will be selected by the following criteria through the Office of Financial Aid:

The LSA Class Gift Scholarship is organized by the LSA Student Government and is presented annually to a current LSA sophomore, junior, or senior student for the fall and winter terms. The recipient of this scholarship will be an individual who has demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. The scholarship varies in value by the amount raised by the outgoing LSA Senior Class. The recipient will be decided upon by the criteria listed below:

•Applicant must be an undergraduate enrolled in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.

•They must have completed at least one full academic year at the University of Michigan (not applicable to transfer students).

•They must have demonstrated dedication to and passion for the University of Michigan and/or Ann Arbor community as exhibited by their time and achievements in their academic field, student organizations, work, and/or community service as perceived by the Office of Financial Aid.

You are able to give online to the LSA Class Gift by clicking the donation button below as well as make a donation at the LSA Student Government office in G325 Mason Hall. Winter 2012 Elections Packet

It’s time once again for Student Government Elections. We encourage everyone to consider running for a representative seat on LSA Student Government in order to help improve YOUR campus. If you do plan on running please fill out the Elections Packet and turn it in to the Student Government Office (G325 Mason Hall) by Wednesday, March 7th at 5pm. There will also be a Mandatory Candidates Meeting March 7th at 7pm for all candidates running in the election. Departmental Award of Excellence

Love Your Department? Nominate them for LSA SG’s Departmental Award of Excellence!

The Student Advisory Committee for Departmental Affairs is putting on its annual
department award. Called the Departmental Award of Excellence, it is an award
given to a department that students feel most exemplifies excellence through their
interaction with undergraduates. To nominate your department, email the name
of the department dae.nominations@gmail.com. The students in the top three departments will then receive a survey, the result from which will determine the
winner. If you have any questions about the award you can direct them to the SACDA Chair Sagar Lathia at slathia@umich.edu.

Theme Semester Art Contest

Feeling creative? Submit your artwork to the LSA SG Theme Semester Art Contest! This semester we are proud to present our new theme: Language: The Human Quintessence.

The submission date is Thursday, March 8, at 4pm in the LSA SG Office (G325 Mason Hall). All types of art including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, music, and more can be submitted! Winter 2012 Budget Allocations

The Budget Allocations Process has now begun for the Winter 2012 Semester. Please be sure to read the Info Packet before filling out the Budget Allocations Application. Fall 2011 Student Government Elections

The LSA SG elections are quickly approaching! The candidates will be campaigning around campus, sharing their goals for what they would like to improve on campus. Be sure to cast your vote for who YOU would like to see as an LSA SG Representative. The ballots can be accessed November 16 & 17 by going to VOTE . umich . edu.
