Neu-Isenburg, Germany – LSG Sky Chefs, the world’s largest provider of in-flight services, will restructure its airline catering activities in Germany by July 1, 2011. LSG Sky Chefs Deutschland GmbH will be split into a management company and 12 individual operating companies. These companies will have the legal form of limited liability companies (GmbH).

"This re-alignment in the German market will strengthen the entrepreneurial scope of the individual locations, and offer an improved perspective for all parties involved," explains Walter Gehl, CEO of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG. By establishing independent limited liability companies, or GmbH as they are known in Germany, the flexibility and speed of these individual locations to adjust to their specific market conditions will increase, thus generating improved competitiveness and growth.

LSG Sky Chefs Deutschland’s membership in the employers association (Arbeitgeberverband Luftverkehr - AGVL) will be transferred to the new companies, which ensures that the collective agreements and labor contracts remain unchanged.

LSG Sky Chefs Maintains Leading Market Position

Neu-Isenburg, Germany - In 2010, LSG Sky Chefs retained its global leadership in the airline...

Neu-Isenburg, Germany - In 2010, LSG Sky Chefs retained its global leadership in the airline catering market, which has seen a return to moderate growth. Consolidated revenues went up by 7.0 percent to 2,249 million EUR, largely due to higher passenger numbers and greater demand in the premium cabin segment. The company's operating result amounted to 76 million EUR, 4 million EUR above the previous year's figure. The main influencers were higher capacity utilization due to greater volumes, synergies as a result of standardization and strict cost management.

"In 2010, our industry recovered at a rate faster than expected and reached stability globally", said CEO Walter Gehl. "LSG Sky Chefs was able to build on these favorable conditions by further developing its capacities and increasing flexibility. Based on our solid positioning in airline catering, we also started to explore new market opportunities by extending our airline service offerings and strategically evaluating adjacent markets."

The company continued its policy of focused regional expansion in Russia and China. In Turkey, a joint venture was established with a local partner to set up a preproduction facility. LSG Sky Chefs' creative potential in product design, process optimization and environmental awareness won considerable acclaim and awards.

For the financial year 2011, LSG Sky Chefs expects the current market trends to continue. The company is seeing to extend its existing customer relationships by selling additional products and services. Consistent standardization in production and administration aims at raising the level of quality and transparency within the company, while creating competitive cost structures.

"This year will undoubtedly test the feasibility of our plans and ideas and confront us once again with the unexpected. But we feel well positioned to cope with the uncertainty that has become a standard in our industry," says the company's CEO. "The state of our company will also be largely affected by the result of the union agreements in our two major markets, Germany and the United States, where we employ around half of our workforce. We are confident that we will reach reasonable agreements, which will be crucial in maintaining LSG Sky Chefs' competitiveness and market leadership."

Neu-Isenburg, Germany - LSG Sky Chefs, the world's largest provider of in-flight services, announced that 12 of its facilities worldwide have been recognized in the 2010 Annual Caterer Award program from United Airlines (UA). This list includes all of LSG Sky Chefs' units in Asia/Pacific, Germany and South America which service UA, plus five in North America.

In the United States, Baltimore (BWI) received two awards and San Jose (SJC) received three awards, both for their overall performance as well as for the best domestic Meal Score in the Tier 1 and 2 categories. Tiers 1 and 2 awards are linked to the number of departures the facilities cater on an annual basis. Tier 1 units cater up to 6,000 departures per year, while Tier 2 units supply fewer than 2,000. SJC also collected an award for reliability, highlighting its on-time performance.

Las Vegas (LAS), Frankfurt (FRA ZE) and Munich (MUC) were also recognized for their excellent performance. LAS received the award for the best score in the customer meal experience category (via online customer feedback surveys) at the domestic level, while FRA ZE and MUC distinguished themselves at the international level. Santa Ana (SNA) received the flight attendant comment performance award, which recognizes caterers with the fewest flight attendant reports (complaints). In addition to SJC, the reliability award was also given to Minneapolis (MSP), Bangkok (BKK), Hong Kong (HKG), Buenos Aires (EZE), Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and Sao Paulo (GRU).

"Our partnership was enhanced significantly due to the effort and dedication demonstrated by our teams," wrote Micaela Gibson, Managing Director Global Catering Operations at United Airlines in the recognition letter. "Our year over year overall results were impressive in terms of Safety, On-time Performance, Crew Feedback, and United Promoter Kitchen Meal Scores. We cannot emphasize enough how much our partnership with caterers, such as you, impacts these results. We want to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our account."

"Recently our partnership with United Airlines was extended through 2012," said Erdmann Rauer, Executive Board Member and Chief Sales Officer at LSG Sky Chefs. "That is why we feel so honored that half of our CSCs which service this important customer received this recognition. This is a great success for us."

Neu-Isenburg, Germany - LSG Sky Chefs, the world's largest provider of in-flight services, has been awarded a contract extension with Germanwings through 2013. LSG Sky Chefs has provided Germanwings with Buy-on-Board services in various locations throughout Germany since 2002.

"We are glad that we will continue to provide our innovative and futuristic catering concept in cooperation with our well-proven partner LSG Sky Chefs in the coming years," said Gregor Schlüter, Senior Vice President Marketing & Customer at Germanwings. "The successful realization of new ideas needs commitment from all participants, both LSG Sky Chefs and Germanwings employees. Together we will meet this challenge for the benefit of our
customers' satisfaction."

This comprehensive Germanwings Buy-on-Board contract means that LSG Sky Chefs has been granted considerable responsibility over the service: While the airline provides the point-of-purchase (the aircraft) and the sales force (the cabin crew), LSG Sky Chefs will take care of the selection and procurement of products (food, beverages and trade goods), marketing, technology and administration. "Last year, we launched the sales of vouchers to passengers during the flight booking process. This was very well received and has had a positive impact on the sale of the catering articles onboard," said Stefan Hubert, VP Sales and Services in the Germany region. "As a result, Germanwings intends to extend this and other onboard initiatives, such as the "Caviar and Champagne" promotion that we worked on together last Christmas."
